What’s One Direction’s Favorite U.S. City So Far?

1D’s Niall Horan relives the ‘absolutely nuts’ fan reaction during the band’s Up All Night tour and tells us which city has been the rowdiest. By Jocelyn Vena Niall Horan of One Direction Photo: One Direction have been taking their boy band antics across the States since May for their first-ever American headlining tour . And, with only days left on the massive Up All Night jaunt, 1D-er Niall Horan, recalled with MTV News the “absolutely nuts” time they’ve had. “It’s been, as you can see clearly, it’s been absolutely nuts. We’re still trying to get out head around it,” he said, hours before hitting the stage in Charlotte. “It’s been crazy. We’ve had a lot of fun … we’re doing these things called sheds, so they’re outside and inside. There are like 20,000 people on an outdoor gig and they’re really good to do. They’re really fun. It’s really warm outside and the crowds, they’re amazing.” With fans doing anything they can to get the guys’ attention while they’re on stage (including throwing bras at them ) Niall says that the last few shows have included far fewer undergarments being tossed at the stage. “They’ve kind of toned it down a little bit. It was worse. Now it’s kind of iPhones and keys, which are kind of dangerous. “When we were in New York, we were on our day off and me and Liam [Payne] was going down the street with one of our security guards and we got absolutely mobbed by like 600 people in Times Square,” he said. “I thought ‘There is literally not one place I can walk down the street.’ ” But, it’s not just screaming girls who are turning out to see the guys. Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell tweeted about attending the 1D show in Atlanta, a show that just happened to be one of Niall’s favorites (or at least the loudest). “We didn’t have a clue what we were singing. We couldn’t hear anything,” he said. “We’re very lucky we’ve got amazing crowds. We never have a bad crowd. We’re very lucky we kind of get the adrenaline rush off them.” While Atlanta may have been the rowdiest show, New Jersey remains Niall’s favorite for the opposite reason. “Harry [Styles] got the crowd to take their phones and lights out of their pocket and we turned off the lights so you couldn’t see the crowd and all you could see are the lights swaying,” he said. “I think that was a special night cause we thought it’s all very high-energy, but when the show is taken down like a somber level it’s quite nice.” Are you planning on seeing One Direction on tour? My name is Adriana, I live in New York and I’m 16 years…

My name is Adriana, I live in New York and I’m 16 years old. My sister and I got to the city at around 12 and we were going back and forth trying to find where the line ended because it was HUGE! We finally found the place we were supposed to wait. We had to wait for the J&R people to walk around to give out the CDs we pre-ordered and they eventually came around to us and we got it. We waited on the line and Justin got at J&R at around 2 . The signing started after a few minutes and then the waiting to get signed began. When I tell you the line was HUGE, it was hugeeeee. There were thousands of people if not more, it was insane. At around 4:30 we got closer to the entrance to go in to see Justin and at this rate, I was having a heart attack. I couldn’t breathe. The guards at the door hurried us in and the second we walked in, we saw Kenny and Justin and a few other people. I couldn’t believe it. Finally we walked up and this lady was telling us to take out the booklet because Justin was signing that. I did that and then this guy (another guard) asked for it and he like slid it on the table where Justin was signing. Then the guy grabbed my CD case and I wasn’t sure what he was doing with it. He gave it to Kenny and I was freaking out because Justin was right there. I looked at Kenny and he was smiling/laughing at me freaking out. He gave it back and Justin signed my booklet and slid it over to me. I grabbed it and the moment I said, “I’m gonna faint” he snapped his head up and said “Hey how are you?” and he was SMILING. OMG dead. I said, “I’m good, you?” and I’m not sure if he said anything back because we were kinda being rushed but he was amazing. He’s absolutely FLAWLESS in person. He’s perfect. My sister took a video and in it you can see as I’m approaching the table, Justin is looking right at me SMILING and so is Kenny!  I CAN’T BREATHE. It was the best time of my life and I never thought this could have happened. Honestly guys NEVER SAY NEVER! I’ve been waiting for this moment for what felt like forever and it finally came true. DON’T GIVE UP! Your time to meet Justin WILL come!! Read more: My name is Adriana, I live in New York and I’m 16 years…

My name is Shantal. I’m from Connecticut, so my cousin…

My name is Shantal. I’m from Connecticut, so my cousin Kasey and I decided to camp outside of the Today Show to see Justin perform . Throughout the week, my friends we’re trying to trend #BiebsMeetShantal , which I didn’t know the reason as of why, but it trended #1 worldwide on Tuesday. Nothing had happened during the trend, so on Thursday I went down to NYC with Kasey and my mom. We made amazing friends in line, and we had heard that Justin was at the Trump Hotel in SoHo, so we had left (without permission) and took a subway to SoHo. We had no luck, but on our way back we had learned Justin had driven by, greeting fans. We were all hurt we missed our probably only chance to get close to Justin. I told my parents we were chasing his car, and so we avoided the trouble of leaving. So time went by and apparently the same friends who has trended #BiebsMeetShantal, began to trend #BiebsMeetShantalAtTheTodayShow and it was #1 worldwide again. Nothing had happened, and then it was around 11:55pm when I had received a direct message from Scooter Braun saying: “See u tomorrow.” I began to hastily direct message him back wondering what he had meant. I had gotten no response so I turned my phone off, and I turned it back on, I had seen a direct message from Kenny, asking for my number and telling me to meet him at 30 Rock at 6:30AM for an arrangement. I literally began flipping out, hyperventilating and just completely fangirling.  At around 5:30, they began to let people into the show. I began to get nervous, because I didn’t want to be stuck inside the barricades when I have to meet Kenny. I was on the verge of crying at this point, because I was so confused as of what was happening. I was frantically messaging Kenny, trying to find out what was going on. Finally, I had received a call on where to go, and who to meet there. I met a guy Joe who took me into RockerFeller Plaza, downstairs to where Justin’s entire crew’s dressing room would be. We waited and we had met Kenny, Scrappy, DJ Tay James, Alfredo, and a few of the dancers, even Big Sean! Finally, I saw Justin coming through the door on my left, and I literally froze. He was past us when we finally decided to say Hi, and he gave us a peace sign before going into his dressing room. We waited around a bit, and Scooter came over to us, and we talked to him for a while, and he told us that Justin hates when he tucks his shirt into his pants, so Scooter tucked in his shirt and Justin called him a cowboy . After like 20 minutes Justin came running out of his dressing room with his microphone in and everything and was like, “HEY GUYS!” and we were like, “Hi Justin!” and he gave us a hug and told us he had to do soundcheck and he’d be down to hangout and take pictures after. We agreed and he started to walk away with Big Sean and Justin turned around and was like, “Aren’t you guys coming?” and we’re like “What?” and he’s like “Come on! Walk with us!” We couldn’t believe it, so we went after him and walked up the stairs with him and the crew, like an entourage. We reached the top of the stairs and honestly the room erupted into screams as we walked out the doors. Kenny handed us our passes and put us right next to the stage with the entire crew! Big Sean and his security were right next to us, and we wished him luck, he was honestly so nice. We watched Justin perform ‘Boyfriend’, ‘Baby’, and ‘As Long As You Love Me’. He got off stage for ‘All Around The World’ and let the dancers perform while he went back downstairs. Kenny told us to follow him and so we went downstairs. We talked to Scooter again, and he asked us how we were enjoying the show, and we we’re like, “It’s unreal.” Then Alfredo came over and was like, “It’s crazy up there,” and we talked to him, and then out of nowhere, Justin appeared behind Alfredo and was like play-choking him, and me and my cousin literally jumped against the wall, he scared us. Justin saw us and then copied us, going against the wall like us, and was like, “So I guess we’re gonna chill here right? And we all laughed. We were like thanking him for taking time to meet us. He would always smile at us, and was so genuinely happy. He asked us why we didn’t say Hi when he walked in and we were like, “You were the one who didn’t say hi!” and he was like “NO NO NO I SAID HI.” and we were like “LIES,” and Alfredo pointed at Justin’s bandana like you have this thing on bro, they can’t hear you. We we’re all joking around with each other. I asked him how his eyebrow was and he was showing us how it wouldn’t move, and I was moving one of my eyebrows mimicking him, and he was like, “Stop you’re faking it, you’re making fun of me.” He’s just so normal around his fans. We took pictures on his phone, we made thug faces in one picture , and it was funny because my cousin was like, “Let’s do thug faces,” which is a serious face, and he just knew. He laughed at it though, he was like “Thug faces haahhaahahahahah.” We continued talking for like 15 minutes, and I had told him about this awesome t-shirt design my friend had made, and I wanted to show him, but I didn’t have it on my phone. He had put his arm around me and was like, “Stay in school and I’ll design my own clothes, how about that?” and I was like “Fine I guess,” and then he gave me a huge kiss on the cheek and my face dropped. I couldn’t stop smiling. Afterwords we took a bunch of pictures, and Justin seemed upset he had to go perform. He gave us one last hug and told us he’d see us when he performs, and we were led outside to a spot near the stage. We watched Justin perform AGAIN, and honestly, it was amazing to see Justin give his all on stage. It was the best day of my entire life. Thank you so much Kenny and Scooter for setting this up, and thank you Justin for taking the time out of your hectic day for us! We love you! -@ BieberSergeant  Link: My name is Shantal. Rick Ross, T.I., Lil Wayne Relive Best Birthday Bash Moments

‘You saw the Birthday Bash stage set on fire,’ King of the South tells MTV News of the Atlanta’s 17th annual hip-hip festival. By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by FLX Lil Wayne performs at 107.9’s Birthday Bash on June 16, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia Photo: The folks at Hot 107.9 in Atlanta sure know how to throw a party. For their 17th annual Birthday Bash , the southern radio staple celebrated with a who’s who of top rap talent like Lil Wayne , T.I., Usher, Rick Ross , Young Jeezy and about 20,000 hip-hop fanatics. “Every time I come it’s just a new energy,” Miami MC Rick Ross told MTV News immediately after he jumped off the Philips Arena stage. “ATL, for the South, is a very special place, and I feel like anybody from the South, they’re gonna recognize that and it’s a beautiful thing. It was a wonderful night.” The magnitude of the concert still isn’t lost on Lil Jon, a Birthday Bash veteran. “I can’t even believe there has been 17 Birthday Bashes, and I probably been to 10 of them, so it’s always good to be in the hometown where it all started from,” he said. Gucci Mane estimates that he’s performed at the annual throwdown four or five times already. In 2010, he brought out his prot

I’m Gaia, I’m 15 and I live in Milan, Italy. Before…

I’m Gaia, I’m 15 and I live in Milan, Italy. Before the 2nd June I saw Justin in concert just once. Now I had the chance to meet Justin that day by winning some contest. You would win to see him at a Believe party & meet and greet, or at his performance at the Arena of Verona. Francesca (one of my friends) won one contest and so she was allowed to enter the Believe Party, sam with Ilaria and her cousin, but me not. I didn’t win anything. That was the worst moment of my life, knowing that after all that I did for him, the big day arrived and I could not see him. It was like the world collapsed on me. I was encouraged by Francesca, Alessandra and my other friends who were there with me in that moment. I was SURE that, on 2nd June, I wouldn’t meet Justin. The morning of that day we went in front of the Alcatraz (the place where Justin performed). We lined up with all the others who had won, and Francesca still told me, “You will enter Gaia, I’m sure, you will meet him, we will meet him today, trust me.” I cried again, I couldn’t believe that Justin was in my city and I couldn’t meet him. We tried every way to get the pass but nothing. Few hours after, a belieber came to me and told me that she had an extra pass to enter in the party and she wanted to give me it. In that moment I was the happiest girl on the world. I thanked her so much and then after one hour we immediately went to Linate, the airport. We stayed there like for 3 hours. Then when the plane landed we meet the whole crew. Kenny, Alfredo, Ryan, Dan, Scrappy, everyone except Justin. All the girls who were with us started to scream, we took photos with them, it was fantastic. We couldn’t believe to have in front of us all the crew, all the people who are so close to Justin. At the airport I went to Scrappy and I told him, “Can you give this letter to Justin? This is the only chance that I have, please!” He accepted and hugged me. When I saw him at the hotel I asked him if he threw away the letter or what, and he took it from his pocket! When we was in front of the hotel waiting to see Justin, Marisol entered. She was the interviewer who interviewed him in London and here in Italy that day. We went to her to ask why she was there and she explained us that she had to interview him. After a few minutes, she returned in the garden where we were and she said, “Gaia, Alessandra, Ilaria come here!” We went over there and she told us that she needed 3 girls to interview Justin on the stage of Alcatraz, at the Believe Party. We were so surprised about her request and we accepted. Then she return to us and told us that she needed another 3 girls, so we choose Francesca, Arianna and Camilla. The hour of the party came very quickly, so we followed Marisol and she took us in the first line and then behind the scenes. We were so exited, the man who managed the event told us to not scream, cry or things like that but we couldn’t. Finally, after too much time we didn’t see him. He wasn’t pixel, or on a photo, that moment wasn’t a video, but that was reality. After his performances the man called us, but there was a change of program and only 3 girls could come on the stage to interview him. He was beautiful, I was enchanted, his eyes were still shimmering, he was still smiling, I really couldn’t realize that he was in front me, the boy who I never stop to love since the first moment was there, with me, that was unbelievable. When we entered on the stage, he first hugged us. That was really the moment of my whole life. The hug that I was searching for, the hug that I was waiting from a life, the special moment that I dreamed every night. That moment had become reality. He was so sweet with us, he hugged also Alessandra, Ilaria, Francesca, Camilla and Arianna. After so many fights, after so many tears, smiles, after too many times, finally my dream was happening. After the questions that we asked Justin, we went behind the scenes to make a photo with him, but only 3 of us. Camilla, Ilaria and I went in a room and took it. He was so smiling, trust to me, there aren’t enough characters to describe my emotions in that moment. I was one of the few people who organized events in Italy to be noticed by Justin. We gave our souls for him, we did our best, and that was our moment. Thank you Justin to be my strength, to be my point of reference. Trust to me if I tell you to still believe, trust to me. I’ll NEVER give up, I’ll support Justin until the end, cause he’s all my life. I miss him so much. When he hugged me, I had my world in my arms, really the best moment ever. I hope to meet him very soon, I can’t resist, that distance is very hard. Thank you Justin, for every single moment, you made my life. NEVER SAY NEVER. Radiohead Pay Tribute To Drum Tech Killed In Stage Collapse

Band’s drummer, Philip Selway, says group is ‘shattered’ by death of friend Scott Johnson. By Gil Kaufman The collapsed section of stage at Toronto’s Downsview Park Photo: A day after a stage collapse
killed one person an injured three more, Radiohead issued a statement about the accident that caused the cancellation of their show at Toronto’s Downsview Park. The victim has been identified as the band’s drum tech, Scott Johnson, 33, a native of Doncaster, England. According to the Toronto Star , Johnson sustained a “crushing injury’ when the stage collapse while he and other members of the band’s crew were setting up the stage for the show. The other three crew members were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Radiohead drummer Philip Selway issued a statement on Sunday paying tribute to Johnson. ” We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague,” he wrote. “He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.” The Star reported that three inspectors and two engineers from the Ministry of Labour scoured the accident scene on Sunday in search of the cause of the collapse. A spokesperson said the investigation is “fairly complex” and some industry professionals wondering what could have caused the incident, which occurred on an otherwise nice, sunny day with light winds. The incident is the latest in a string of stage collapses over the past year, which include a death at the Bluesfest in Ottawa last July, six deaths at a Sugarland concert
in Indianapolis in August and five deaths in Belgium
after a storm swept in and toppled a stage at the Pukkelpop Festival. Related Artists Radiohead

Drake Moves Past Bar Brawl With Help From The Weeknd, Dipset

Drake brushes off Chris Brown drama at New York show with all-star lineup including A$AP Rocky, Busta Rhymes and 2 Chainz. By Nadeska Alexis The Weeknd and Drake perform at New York’s Jones Beach on Saturday Photo: WANTAGH, New York — Drake hit the stage at the Nikon Theater in Jones Beach on Saturday night for his first public appearance since the now-infamous club brawl with Chris Brown , and except for a passing reference to the incident, the show went on with extra fuel from special guests like the Weeknd and Dipset. After opening sets from French Montana, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Waka Flocka Flame and J. Cole, Drake kicked things off with his Take Care tracks “Lord Knows” and “Underground Kings.” He formally introduced his crowd to the “greatest club in the world,” and assured them that no afterparty could measure up to what he had in store for the night, since he’d brought out “every single n—a that you wanna hear.” Cue “Crew Love” and an appearance from Drizzy’s Toronto pal the Weeknd, who momentarily sent the crowd into a frenzy, as the first in a chain of surprise guests. In addition to summoning Waka, Meek, 2 Chainz and French Montana back to the stage for features, Drake also brought out his Cash Money labelmate Busta Rhymes to perform the throwback “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” while A$AP Rocky and his mob dropped in as well. It wasn’t until Drake performed his soul-baring single “Marvin’s Room” that he finally made a blatant reference to the controversy surrounding the Chris Brown incident. He told the audience that he was in a great mood, despite the last few nights being difficult. Once he got that off his chest, he continued the show with an appearance from Jamaican dancehall star Mavado, who performed his own single “I’m So Special.” Despite earlier rumors that Drake might be arrested before the end of the night,  the YMCMB rapper was calm and cool, focused only on delivering a night to remember. He saved his biggest stunt for the final minutes of the show, bringing Jim Jones onstage to perform his hit “We Fly High,” followed by Juelz Santana with “Dipset (Santana’s Town)” and finally, Cam’ron. If having A$AP’s crew on the bill wasn’t enough shine for Harlem, Drake managed to get all three members of Dipset on stage with him for a memorable moment as they performed “Salute.” While details are still being revealed about the club altercation Wednesday night, Drake did his best to brush off the drama and stay focused on the music. This weekend, MTV News caught up with Cash Money CEO Birdman in Atlanta, where he threw his full support behind Drake. “To me, Drizzy ain’t did nothin’ wrong, he ain’t done nothin’ wrong to nobody,” Birdman said.  “He just doin’ great music. He’s not a reckless guy out there just wildin’ out; he’s a humble kid makin’ great music.” Related Artists Drake The Weeknd

T.I., Rick Ross Hold Court, Lil Wayne Surprises At Birthday Bash

Gucci Mane, Future, Usher and more of Atlanta’s finest celebrate at Saturday’s Bash. By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by FLX T.I. onstage at Atlanta’s Birthday Bash on Saturday night Photo: ATLANTA — ATL is an infamous party town, and on Saturday night there was no bigger celebration than Hot 107.9’s 17th annual Birthday Bash. Every year, the city’s premier hip-hop station brings out rap’s finest, and Saturday was no different: Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Usher, Lil Wayne and T.I. all performed for over 20,000 fans at A-Town’s Philips Arena. The five-hour bash started as new southern staples like Cash Out, Travis Porter and Future pumped up the crowd alongside beloved veterans Lil Jon, Pastor Troy, Crime Mob, Lil Scrappy, Rocko and Gucci Mane.  Each set seemingly outdid the one that preceded it. After Future built the crowd into a frenzy with his catalog of hits (“Tony Montana,” “Same Damn Time” and “Turn on the Lights”), Rick Ross stormed the stage as energetic as ever. The MMG big man bounced up and down and controlled both the entire arena running through power tracks like “I’ma Boss,” “9 Piece” and “Bag of Money.” While all opening acts were appreciated, none were greeted quite like the King of the South. At 10:15 p.m., T.I. took the stage while his live band riffed the opening chords to his 2010 single “I’m Back.” It was all very fitting considering it’s been a few years since Tip graced the stage which has made him royalty in his native city. “A-Town what’s happenin’? I’d like to welcome y’all to my Birthday Bash,” T.I. said. Tip dug deep into his discography reciting tracks like “Rubberband Man” and “24s.” The Trap Muzik MC set the tone with street bangers before catering to the ladies with “Love This Life” and “Whatever You Like.” Immediately after, T.I. began to parade out his long list of multiplatinum friends. “It was a good 30 mil, maybe 50; maybe 50 mil,” Tip told MTV News after the show trying to estimate the amount of collective records sold between all of his specially invited guests. First there was Usher , who sang his current smash “Climax” and then came Nelly, who along with Kelly Rowland performed his 2002 single “Dilemma.” Nelly exited the stage and left Kelly to rock her #1 single “Motivation.” Halfway through her tune, Lil Wayne skated out onto the stage rapping his guest verse. The Destiny’s Child singer then turned the stage over to the YMCMB boss, who rocked a number of his own hits like “Bill Gates” and “John.” T.I. could’ve stopped there but then took his stage back proving that he could’ve easily performed without any help. Tip went solo for a few spitting “Swagga Like Us” and “Bring ’em Out” and then once again played the gracious host inviting out newcomer Chief Keef and ATL veteran Young Jeezy.”All these people I called, these are personal acquaintances of mine, these are not people I call just because they have hit records,” T.I. told us. At the end of T.I.’s set, which ran over an hour, there was only one song left to sing. As the opening chords for “Live Your Life” rang through Philips Arena, fireworks shot through the air and gold confetti fell from the rafters. What’s your favorite Birthday Bash memory?
