Ke$ha Proclaims ‘We R Who We R’ At AMAs

Ke$ha destroys hate with her American Music Awards performance. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha performs at the 2010 American Music Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Whirring sirens and post-apocalyptic stage design certainly set the tone for Ke$ha’s energetic American Music Awards performance on Sunday (November 21). Surrounded by keyboards, Ke$ha kicked it all off in a glowing robot helmet and began her Animal track, “Take It Off.” Soon she was surrounded by dancers, some of whom broke through mirrors to join the singer on the stage as she transitioned into her Cannibal track “We R Who We R.” For the performance, Ke$ha let her hair down and graced the stage in a mirrored bodysuit and leather jacket. She danced and gyrated her way through the track off her latest release, out this week. When she wasn’t dancing, she played a white guitar as confetti fell from the ceiling toward the song’s synth filled and Auto-Tuned finale. As the song wrapped, she turned the guitar around and revealed that it said “hate” with a slash through it. She destroyed the guitar as sparks flew from behind her. “This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime,” she said in a statement. “My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing,” she said of the new album. “The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It’s the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don’t like it — bite me.” What did you think of Ke$ha’s AMA Performance? Kate Nash Hypnotizes Crowd At New York City Concert

British singer stomps on keyboard in highly energetic show. By Vaughn T. Schoonmaker Kate Nash (file) Photo: C Brandon/Redferns NEW YORK — Friday night’s Kate Nash concert at Terminal 5 in New York City began with an indoor thunderstorm. Colorful curtains blew around at the back of the stage, and music could be faintly heard playing behind the rumble. As the thunder grew louder, lightening strobe lights covered the room and the star of the night, Nash, ran onstage with her band. Guitar in hand, Nash ignited her show with “I Just Love You More,” from her latest album, My Best Friend Is You . Judging by the deafening volume of the crowd’s screaming, there seemed to be a competition throughout the evening of who loved who more: Nash or her cheerful fans. Keeping it classy in a shiny, blue short skirt over a tight, black bodysuit, Nash still managed to suffer from the pop star’s recurring issue of wardrobe malfunction, leaving the stage three times to fix it up. “This is making me feel like Britney Spears!” Nash blushed after returning to the stage in a black and white replacement dress. In her highly energetic 90-minute set, Nash managed to balance music from My Best Friend with her successful debut album, Made of Bricks . She also managed to balance the various moods that her music tends to explore. In “Kiss That Grrrl,” she growled a warning for her guy to keep his eyes on her. She introduced her “Skeleton Song” by advising, “You don’t have to be hungry to be happy!” In “R n B Side” she taught the mostly American crowd her favorite naughty British word that rhymes with “tanker.” Shifting between her keyboard (which was literally covered in light bulbs) and her guitar stand, Nash demonstrated her multiple musical abilities. She brought out a new dimension when she began to passionately rattle off the intense poem about self image, “Mansion Song.” Despite the dominantly darker context of Nash’s music, the hypnotized crowd’s energy did not falter for a single moment. “Are you afraid of a woman with an opinion?” she asked her crowd skeptically, ” ‘Cause I’m not!” She finished off with her biggest hits, “Foundations” and “Merry Happy,” both about collapsing relationships. She succeeded in making her New York fans “Merry Happy,” as they cheered her out for an encore performance of “Pumpkin Soup.” She finished the song by jumping atop her keyboard and stomping on its keys, still managing to make it sound in tune. New Yorker Maryann Conigliaro smiled as she summed up the rather multidimensional show: “She was very cute and she was very angry.” Related Artists Kate Nash

Drake Says His Tour Is Inspired By Jimi Hendrix

Light Dreams and Nightmares stage show “very psychedelic,” MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake performs in Miami on Monday Photo: Alexander Tamargo/ Getty Images MIAMI — Drake often cites Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and Kanye West as artists that inspired his career, from his sound to his stage presence. But for the Toronto star’s new tour, Light Dreams and Nightmares, which kicked off this week in Miami, he said he drew from outside of hip-hop. The unlikely source: One of Woodstock’s finest. “It’s a really stunning setup, heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix,” Drake told MTV News. “Not necessarily in any set that he designed, but more so his music and his vibe. It’s called the Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour — it’s very psychedelic. It’s very much based on day and night, like times of day, and I carry you through a full day in the show. It’s really cool, and I’m enjoying it. It’s great to have those elements.” Drake recently visited the Hendrix grave site, he told Rolling Stone . In addition to the electric guitarist, the Young Money MC also said he’s turned to concert DVDs, including one by Eminem, to help inspire him on his headlining trek. The result is an “OMG”-like light show that’s more involved than Drake’s first solo outing, the Away From Home Tour earlier this year. He said the stage effects create a level of excitement comparable to a surprise cameo. “It’s almost like when you’re at a show and you know [Jay-Z’s] about to come out or [Eminem’s] about to come out,” Drake explained. “It’s the same thing, like I know there’s fireworks about to go off in the air or this light show is going to go off and people will love it. It’s a great experience for me as a performer. I still work just as hard, but it’s almost as if I’m performing with another element. I’m growing.” Related Photos Drake Ignites Miami Related Artists Drake

‘American Idol’ Adds Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler As Judges

Randy Jackson will remain on the panel with the two rookies. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest is a master of suspense, expert at milking a moment for maximum impact during the gut-wrenching elimination episodes of the musical competition. But on Wednesday (September 22) at a press conference to announce the two new judges joining the “Idol” panel for the show’s upcoming 10th season, Seacrest did away with the shenanigans and got right to the point. Just moments after taking the stage, he cued up a montage of clips chronicling the legendary rock-and-roll career of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, 62, who, as reported, will be joining the show. Seacrest invited the high-energy singer out onto the stage, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer let out one of his signature wails. Asked how it feels to be joining the “Idol” family, Tyler said, “Fabulous. Wonderful. Feels like the perfect feathered nest.” The choice is an odd one, considering Tyler has fronted one of the world’s premier rock bands for nearly 40 years and has a colorful background, to say the least, including recent feuds with his bandmates and a 2008 stint in rehab after decades of sobriety. But despite no formal experience on TV, the singer explained why he decided to give it a try after all those years on arena stages fronting the best-selling American rock band of all time. “It’s being a part of something much bigger than yourself,” he said. “I want to bring some rock to this roller coaster and show you that if you got the heart, you got the talent and you got the feeling to do this, you could be the next American Idol.” Wearing an atypically sedate outfit of black slacks, a velvety jacket and a paisley shirt, Tyler was all smiles during the brief appearance. Moments later, the screen filled with the second introductory montage, this one ticking off the bona fides of singer/actress Jennifer Lopez, including clips from “Selena,” a string of magazine covers and nods to the 55 million albums she’s sold during her career. The show also paid lip service to the frenzy of speculation about Lopez possibly joining the highest-rated program on TV by flashing a series of tabloid reports and TV clips chronicling the rumors of Lopez’s hiring. The singer rose from the stage in a swirl of smoke and bright lights and gave Seacrest a double-cheek kiss as he introduced her to the room. Wearing a shimmering silver jumpsuit, Lopez explained why she, too, decided to join the show and what she thinks she can teach the wannabe singers in the audience in Los Angeles who were gathered to take their shot at the crown. “You have to concentrate on the moment,” she said. “Do the best you can and just live.” Seacrest noted that Lopez had been a mentor on the show and that she and husband Marc Anthony are fanatic “Idol” watchers when he asked Lopez what she was expecting from the upcoming season. “I’m looking for the next Michael Jackson,” she explained. “Like Randy [Jackson] said, we’re looking for the best American Idol ever. I’m really excited. I really am.” And, with that, Seacrest brought out the retooled judges’ panel by intoning his signature phrase: ” This is ‘American Idol!’ ” The announcement, which was also broadcast online, broke a summer’s worth of tension about who would replace departed judges Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi, killing rumors that had everyone from Elton John to Justin Timberlake, Harry Connick Jr., Usher, former judge Paula Abdul and returning executive producer Nigel Lythgoe possibly taking seats at the table next to the only remaining original adjudicator, Jackson. Though “Idol” brass did not reveal the details of the deal signed by actress/singer Lopez, 41, the former “In Living Color” Fly Girl and onetime “Idol” mentor will reportedly pull down $12 million a year for the job, while rock icon and Aerosmith singer Tyler is rumored to receive an $18 million payday for his first TV gig. As also rumored, the Lopez deal includes some perks, among them a “first-look” film agreement with 20th Century Fox with Lopez’s film company, Nuyorican Productions. “Jennifer is a true entertainment powerhouse who has made a tremendous impact on pop culture,” said Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Filmed Entertainment. “Whether as an actress, singer, songwriter or producer, she is a fantastic creative talent, and we’re thrilled to be in business with her.” In a statement, Lopez, whose film career has stalled over the past few years thanks to a string of lukewarmly received romantic comedies, added, “As an artist and producer, I am excited to call Fox my home, and I am looking forward to working with Tom, Jim, Peter and the entire Fox team to create and produce the kinds of film and television projects that reflect my passion for entertaining audiences and telling great stories.” Also joining the show when it kicks off in January will be iconic Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine, who will serve as an in-house mentor on the show, after decades spent boosting the careers of everyone from U2 and Dr. Dre to Eminem, Lady Gaga and 50 Cent. Throughout the season, the show will go behind the scenes to watch as Iovine works with the contestants as part of a new partnership with Interscope , which will take over the promotion and distribution of albums by the “Idol” finalists. The judges’ panel isn’t the only thing changing for the show’s upcoming season. Last week, it was announced that “Idol” hopefuls could submit online audition videos to MySpace for the first time. The show also dropped its age limit to 15 to make sure it doesn’t miss out on a potential Justin Bieber. Eminem Pushes Alchemist To ‘Step My Game Up’

‘When you’re on the stage with Em, there’s no room for error,’ DJ tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Eminem Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images Behind The Beats: Alchemist Alchemist pulled it off once again. Al, who rose to fame with his production for the likes of Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks and Lil Wayne, has been prospering lately as Eminem’s DJ. Em doesn’t perform too much, so when a star of his caliber takes the stage, every show is high-profile. This month, Al was in the DJ booth during Em’s Home and Home shows with Jay-Z in Detroit and in New York. “With the band now, it eases a little bit of the pressure,” Al said. “My friends say, ‘You’re pressing play and stop.’ I’ll tell them, ‘It’s pressing play and stop; it’s not the technical part of it. If you mess it up, it’s a stop and go, but you better do it right on time.’ It’s like the pyro. The pyro guy can’t be a second off. Somebody can get blown up. Em being the perfectionist he is, it was clear: ‘All right, Al, when you’re on the stage with Em, there’s no room for error.’ I respected that. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s gonna make me step my game up.’ I’m watching his shows, before I was his DJ, looking at how his vocals were perfect. In sync, perfect. I felt like this is important. I took it real serious.” Al said he, Eminem manager Paul Rosenberg and D12’s Mr. Porter all give Em input on the show. “At first I was nervous. Like, ‘This is one of the greatest of all time. It’s nothing I can really tell him,’ ” Al thought back. “But as you vibe together, you get ideas. I would test the waters a little bit. He would listen, not always take your idea, but be open-minded. As we started rehearsing, I started implementing some of the stuff I’m known for.” Paul and Em told Al to put some of his own flavor into the live sets. Fans got to hear some of that flavor during the Home and Home series. “It was ‘The Way I Am,’ ” Alchemist explained. “It was an old version where they had Edie Brickell in it: ‘What I am is what I am.’ So … I was like, ‘We should bring it back when we play it live.’ It was a reason they didn’t use it on the original song. Maybe clearance or something. Stuff like that. Or at the end of ‘Not Afraid,’ when the band is breaking it down, I made them get the a cappella and I put in the ‘Holla if you … ‘ Start cutting that up. I think about [DJ] Premier a lot. I think about how to be subtle as a DJ. The band’s up here, Em is running the show. I look at it as accents. I was around [DJ] Muggs for so many years. I got to see so many great people do it. Definitely try to think of what I saw through the years, be subtle and play my part. Add some flavor.” Next Wave of Flav On Eminem and Slaughterhouse : “I didn’t make the Recovery album. Shout-out to DJ Khalil, the big homie. He did, like, four joints on the album. Em’s got him on the album. Mr. Porter made the album. Havoc made the album. It adds to me wanting to go even harder. I think what it was, that I’m so accustomed to making stuff for Mobb Deep or Dilated [Peoples] or the people in my immediate circle. Being around Em more, I’m starting to get it. People vibe, and we make the best music. Now that I’m around him more, there’s talks of the Slaughterhouse project. I think that might be one of the first moments I might be able to pick up some dust.” On Gang Green : “I got this project Gang Green with Oh No, a real good friend from the West Coast, a collaboration project we did together. We did the rhymes and beats together. It’s like I’m almost going backwards. I’ve had my years when I tried to make big stuff after I had a little success. Now I’m gong back to the raw beats, making something every country can feel. Raekwon’s on the joint. Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Fat Sean, a bunch of people I have relationships with.” On Prodigy : “P comes home in February. It’s gonna be a very busy time. It’s amazing. He feels like he’s home already. He’s in the best health he’s been in. He’s really excited. I’ve been sending him beats. Havoc is sending him beats. I e-mail them to his wife, and she puts it on some type of cassette. It’s like he’s in the studio, he’s just not recording.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Victoria Silvstedt Stretches Out Her tight Body

I’m not really use to seeing Victoria Silvstedt do anything other than hang out on some rich old dudes yacht in her little bikini , so I’m a little thrown by these shots of her stretching out her tight body in a field somewhere. I have no idea where she is, it looks like a vacant lot, but I like what she’s trying to do here, if hot women want to stretch in public this is exactly the kind of outfit they should have to wear. A hot girl stretching uniform. Call your congressman.
