Chris Brown Plays To Packed House At Virginia Benefit Concert

‘Everyone has to do their part,’ singer said before show, which will provide aid to Haiti and to needy in Virginia. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown performs at “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” benefit for continued relief in Haiti Photo: MTV News RICHMOND, Virginia — Chris Brown headlined the “Virginia Stand Up! A Call to Action” benefit concert on Saturday night, and the superstar singer couldn’t have been more giving, doing his best to please the packed house. “Can I slow it down for the ladies?” Brown asked the shrieking audience, comprised mostly of females and local supporters. “I mean really slow it down.” With that, the energetic crooner jumped off the stage and walked through the crowd singing “Say Goodbye” to his fans, shaking as many adoring hands as he could along the way. “There’s never a right time to say goodbye,” he sang. “But we know that we got to go our separate ways.” Things at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center were just getting started, though. Brown ran through selections from all three of his albums, including early hits from his 2005 self-titled debut such as the chipper “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)” and “Gimme That.” T-Pain , who performed earlier in the night (as did Trey Songz , Keri Hilson , Mario , Tank and Ryan Leslie ) joined Brown for his guest spot on the booming “Kiss Kiss.” Brown, who celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month, exercised his status as a more mature artist by bringing a young woman onstage with him. The fan, decked out in a snug dress, ditched her high heels and sat in a reclining chair on the stage as Brown serenaded her. The hometown Brown quickly transitioned into the steamy “Take You Down,” off Exclusive, removing his jean jacket (he was shirtless underneath) and straddling his guest for some enthusiastic dance moves that would have made Bobby Brown blush. The event was part of a charitable mission organized by Brown to help with continued relief efforts in Haiti following the devastating January earthquake. The singer partnered with the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Central Virginia Food Bank and recruited a slew of hip-hop and R&B stars to help out. Lil Wayne prot

Rihanna and Justin Bieber

It could just be coincidence that both stars have stepped out in near-identical outfits, but we can’t help but wonder if Rihanna is paying homage to her friends or taking a break from setting the trends. Now, the singing sensation appears to be copying pal Justin Bieber’s style swagger. When it comes to fashion, Rihanna is usually more trendsetter than follower, but lately the pop star seems to be taking her fashion cues from her A-list friends. On Monday, she took to the stage at London’s O2

Rihanna Stumbled On Stage

thepianopages Rihanna showed of true prowess of professionalism Wednesday night when she stumbled on stage while performing in France.  She continued to sing “Let Me” and didn’t miss a note even her face almost kissed the stage. She managed to land on her feet and soon got herself up. It must be so tough for the Barbados-born R&B singer. Last Monday night, she was rushed to the hospital in Switzerland for an injured broken rib after a show. She was confined for only three hours when her publicist assured that Rihanna was fine. Her show in Zurich was unusual for musica reasons when she diverged her pop-rnb to sing Oasis’ “WonderWall” one notch lower and invited the audience to sing along with her. Her publicist hasn’t commented on whether her spill in France and her Swiss-hospital scare are related, but fans surely hope there’s nothing wrong with Rihanna-especially since her extensive Last Girl on Earth tour doesn’t wrap up until late August. Green Day Surprise ‘American Idiot’ Crowd With Impromptu Set

Billie Joe and company make their own Broadway debut with ‘American Idiot’ and ‘Basket Case.’ By Margaret Pesa Green Day fans attending Thursday night’s performance of the just-opened Broadway musical “American Idiot” got an extra special treat following the final bow: The veteran rock trio jumped onstage for a surprise performance. “This is my first night on Broadway,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong announced as his two bandmates — bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tr

Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze Dominate American Idol

And then there were two. Yes, we know there are actually seven finalists remaining on American Idol – but can anyone envision a scenario in which Crystal Bowersox or Lee DeWyze does NOT take home the title? We certainly hope not, as this pair is clearly the cream of the season nine crop. Each proved why during last night’s edition of the show, based around inspirational singles, putting on performances that brought many in the audience to tears. We’ve ranked the top seven in order below. Just imagine a large space between number-two and all the others… Bowersox : Who needs a guitar?!? With a perfect rendition of “People Get Ready,” and with her father in the crowd, Crystal herself couldn’t stop from crying. But here’s encouraging news for the singer: she’s the one to beat. DeWyze : He took on “The Boxer,” a Paul Simon classic. It was a tender performance, one that lived up to the expectations of such a well-known, respected song. Awesome job. Casey James : Taken on its own, a solid take on “Don’t Stop.” But this singer sounds the same each week. Nothing stands out at this point, which might actually put Casey in danger of elimination this week. Siobhan Magnus : She took heat for her ballad of “When You Believe.” But who would you rank above her? Still has a great voice and great potential. Aaron Kelly : It’s difficult to get past the cheesy single he chose (“I Believe I Can Fly”), or even the shady persona of the dude who originally sang it (R. Kelly). But this Kelly connected with the audience in an impressive manner. Tim Urban : We’ve seen better recent performances from this cutie than his cover of “Better Days.” His time might finally be up. Michael Lynche : Another cheesy ballad, as Big Mike took a big chance with “Hero.” His voice just couldn’t carry such a tough song choice. Who was your favorite performer of the night?
