Melissa McCarthy Makes Plus-Size Fashionable

Known for her hilarious Bridesmaids quotes and her starring role on Mike & Molly , actress Melissa McCarthy is living proof that you don’t have to be plastered across gossip sites in bikini photos to be laugh-out-loud funny. Plus-size women can feel like stars, too. After co-designing her Emmys dress with dressmaker Daniella Pearl, the 41-year-old – who combed through “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows” – decided to create a clothing line for women with similar body types. “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter . “It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.” It wasn’t until McCarthy became a mom to daughters Vivian, 4, and Georgette, 1, that she stopped feeling insecure about her physical appearance. “I just try not to give too much energy to it,” she says. “At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.” Now that’s something all of us could probably learn from. In addition to delving into the world of fashion, McCarthy and her husband, actor Ben Falcone, are also starting their own production company.

When I first saw the Apple listing for a trailer for Trust, I got excited that Hal Hartley’s deadpan 1990 family drama [1] might be getting a rerelease. (It isn’t on DVD, but is streaming on Netflix [2].) Instead, this is a trailer for David Schwimmer’s second directorial effort, in which a 14-year old girl (Liana Liberato) develops an online relationship with a boy who (shocker) turns out to be not… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 08/02/2011 21:13 Number of articles : 2

The A-Team’s Sharlto Copley on Budgets, Apartheid and Going Off Script

While this summer’s big-budget adaptation of the ’80s TV hit The A-Team (out this week from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment) may not have been the franchise tentpole its studio hoped to get for the money it spent, the action extravaganza did confirm the star quality of Sharlto Copley , who first turned up on our pop culture radars after his starring role in the 2009 Best Picture nominee District 9 .

Nick Cannon Dodges Latest Round Of Mariah Carey Pregnancy Rumors

‘You will hear it directly from her,’ Cannon says of the chatter swirling around his wife. By Jocelyn Vena Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images For months, people have been wondering if Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have a baby on the way. In May, Carey dropped out of Tyler Perry’s forthcoming movie “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf”; that sparked chatter about her being pregnant, and she has maintained a relatively low profile since then. But over the weekend, Carey was seen in a body-obscuring black princess gown at the Barretos International Rodeo in Barretos, Brazil. The photos re-ignited the rumors that the singer is indeed expecting a bundle of joy. Cannon discussed the speculation during his radio show on New York’s 92.3 FM on Monday (August 23), and he once again took the high road. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it time and time again — when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her,” People.com reports he said. He continued: “We all know it’s extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff.” Cannon did say that if the couple, who married in 2008 , did ever have an announcement of that kind to make to the world they would “strategically plan it out properly” to avoid hype. “That’s something you want to keep near and dear and as close to you as you possibly can, until you’re 100 percent sure, in any situation,” he continued. “There’s a certain time limit you’re supposed to wait before you can actually officially say that you are and all that stuff. You don’t want to mislead anybody.” What do you think of how Nick and Mariah are handling the pregnancy rumors? Tell us in the comments. Related Artists Nick Cannon Mariah Carey

Jessica Alba To Star In ‘Spy Kids 4’

Actress will play mother of the preteen spies, who have yet to be cast. By Adam Rosenberg Jessica Alba Original Spy Kids Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are all grown up now, which means that series creator Robert Rodriguez needs to enlist a new generation of pint-sized spooks. The new preteen twosome has yet to be cast, but their mother may have been found. Jessica Alba is in negotiations to take on the role of the female lead in “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World,” The Hollywood Reporter reveals. If cast, she’ll play a newly reactivated former spy who must balance going back to work with the challenges of having two preteen children — our new spy kids — and a baby. In addition to the starring kids, two other key roles still need to be cast: Alba’s husband, a “slightly nerdy investigative reporter,” and the movie’s main villain, Time Keeper, who seeks to stop time. The report also reveals that Vega, Sabara and Antonio Banderas are expected to return in supporting roles; no word on Carla Gugino, who played the mother of the original kids and the wife of Banderas’ character. Alba has already worked with writer/director/producer Rodriguez more than once. She had one of the starring roles in the ensemble comic book adaptation of Frank Miller’s “Sin City.” And she’ll next appear in Rodriguez’s “Machete,” alongside Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan and more — another sizable ensemble — which hits theaters September 3. “Spy Kids 4” was previously confirmed as a 3-D release. Budgeted at under $30 million, it’s expected to start shooting next month. For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Obama Orders Visitation Rights for Same Sex Couples

Via Washington Post “President Obama on Thursday signed a memorandum requiring hospitals to allow gays and lesbians to have non-family visitors and to grant their partners medical power of attorney. The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit discrimination in hospital visitation. The memo is scheduled to be made public Friday morning, according to an administration official and another source familiar with the White House decision. An official said the new rule will affect any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding.” In the memo the President said “Every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides whether in a sudden medical emergency or a prolonged hospital stay.” UPDATE: On Anderson Cooper 360, Janice Langbehn discussed how her story inspired the White House to make this order. Langbehn received a call from President Obama today, who apologized for the ordeal that she had gone through at a Jackson, Florida hospital. She was denied access to her partner her, despite having power of attorney and other legal documents that should have granted her medical access. Langbehn's was not allowed to see her partner until just moments before her death. Langbehn says that Lisa, her partner's death, “was not in vain.” She appreciates the apology from President Obama despite not having received an apology from the hospital, which announced this week that they have changed their access policy to include LGBT families. The Human Rights Campaign, a lobby group that specializes in LGBT issues has stated that they have been “working on the request––” with the White House “for months.” Full Body of the Memorandum: MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SUBJECT: Respecting the Rights of Hospital Patients to Receive Visitors and to Designate Surrogate Decision Makers for Medical Emergencies There are few moments in our lives that call for greater compassion and companionship than when a loved one is admitted to the hospital. In these hours of need and moments of pain and anxiety, all of us would hope to have a hand to hold, a shoulder on which to lean — a loved one to be there for us, as we would be there for them. Yet every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides — whether in a sudden medical emergency or a prolonged hospital stay. Often, a widow or widower with no children is denied the support and comfort of a good friend. Members of religious orders are sometimes unable to choose someone other than an immediate family member to visit them and make medical decisions on their behalf. Also uniquely affected are gay and lesbian Americans who are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives — unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated. For all of these Americans, the failure to have their wishes respected concerning who may visit them or make medical decisions on their behalf has real consequences. It means that doctors and nurses do not always have the best information about patients' medications and medical histories and that friends and certain family members are unable to serve as intermediaries to help communicate patients' needs. It means that a stressful and at times terrifying experience for patients is senselessly compounded by indignity and unfairness. And it means that all too often, people are made to suffer or even to pass away alone, denied the comfort of companionship in their final moments while a loved one is left worrying and pacing down the hall. Many States have taken steps to try to put an end to these problems. North Carolina recently amended its Patients' Bill of Rights to give each patient “the right to designate visitors who shall receive the same visitation privileges as the patient's immediate family members, regardless of whether the visitors are legally related to the patient” — a right that applies in every hospital in the State. Delaware, Nebraska, and Minnesota have adopted similar laws. My Administration can expand on these important steps to ensure that patients can receive compassionate care and equal treatment during their hospital stays. By this memorandum, I request that you take the following steps: 1. Initiate appropriate rulemaking, pursuant to your authority under 42 U.S.C. 1395x and other relevant provisions of law, to ensure that hospitals that participate in Medicare or Medicaid respect the rights of patients to designate visitors. It should be made clear that designated visitors, including individuals designated by legally valid advance directives (such as durable powers of attorney and health care proxies), should enjoy visitation privileges that are no more restrictive than those that immediate family members enjoy. You should also provide that participating hospitals may not deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. The rulemaking should take into account the need for hospitals to restrict visitation in medically appropriate circumstances as well as the clinical decisions that medical professionals make about a patient's care or treatment. 2. Ensure that all hospitals participating in Medicare or Medicaid are in full compliance with regulations, codified at 42 CFR 482.13 and 42 CFR 489.102(a), promulgated to guarantee that all patients' advance directives, such as durable powers of attorney and health care proxies, are respected, and that patients' representatives otherwise have the right to make informed decisions regarding patients' care. Additionally, I request that you issue new guidelines, pursuant to your authority under 42 U.S.C. 1395cc and other relevant provisions of law, and provide technical assistance on how hospitals participating in Medicare or Medicaid can best comply with the regulations and take any additional appropriate measures to fully enforce the regulations. 3. Provide additional recommendations to me, within 180 days of the date of this memorandum, on actions the Department of Health and Human Services can take to address hospital visitation, medical decisionmaking, or other health care issues that affect LGBT patients and their families. This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person. You are hereby authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register. Fox News pulls Sean Hannity from Tea Party Rally

Fox News has pulled Sean Hannity from his starring role in a tea party rally just one week after Rupert Murdoch said the network should not be supporting the tea party movement. Hannity was set to broadcast Thursday night from a tea party rally in Cincinnati, but was rushing back to New York Thursday evening after network executives learned of the plan and said it was unacceptable. “Fox News never agreed to allow the Cincinnati Tea Party organizers to use Sean Hannity's television program to profit from broadcasting his show from the event,” Bill Shine, the network's executive vice president of programming, told the Los Angeles Times. “When senior executives in New York were made aware of this, we changed our plans for tonight's show.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/15/fox-news-pulls-sean-hanni_n_539719.html added by: jeffissleeping
