Eclipse Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg on Fans: ‘They’re Coming After Me a Little Bit Already!’

In many ways, Melissa Rosenberg has the Twilight franchise’s most difficult job: as screenwriter, she has to satisfy not just the original novelist Stephenie Meyer, but the actors (including Kristen Stewart, who famously won’t say a line if she doesn’t believe it), directors, and fans, too. The imminent Eclipse is her third crack at the series, and up next is the very controversial Breaking Dawn , which Rosenberg is busily splitting into two movies. In a candid interview with Movieline, Rosenberg discussed fan frustrations, her thoughts on Summit’s director selections, and just how she pictures that Breaking Dawn split.

Eclipse Cast Sounds Off on Miley Cyrus

For the record, Miley Cyrus hates pop music , Glee and, of course, pants . Now, the singer has added something else to her list of disdain. In an interview with E! News last week, the singer said: “I hate vampires.” Naturally, this led the network to speak to members of the Eclipse cast about Miley’s comments and they replied as follows: Taylor Lautner : “She doesn’t need to like vampires. As long as she likes werewolves, we’re cool.” Peter Facinelli : “I’m not necessarily a huge vampire fan, but I do love the books that Stephenie Meyer created. I love that you don’t see fangs. It’s not a horror movie by any means.” Elizabeth Reaser : “I’ve always been a fan of vampires since I was a little girl. I loved all the Anne Rice books. Maybe Miley’s resisting. Maybe they’re so popular now that it’s annoying or she’s sick of seeing us.” Kellan Lutz : “She hasn’t met me then. I would change her opinion on that, I’m sure. I have my ways.” Ashley Greene : “That’s so unfortunate because I love her new songs… I’m going to sit Miley down and force her to watch Twilight .”

Kristen Stewart Says She Shares Fans’ ‘Passion’ For ‘Twilight Saga’

‘I feel like I’m one of them,’ she tells MTV News at ‘Eclipse’ L.A. premiere. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Kristen Stewart has come a long way from the shy, anxious actress fans and reporters first encountered around the time of the first “Twilight” film’s release. When MTV News caught up with the saga’s heroine on the “Eclipse” premiere’s black carpet Thursday night (June 24), Stewart was all smiles and visibly bubbly with positive energy. “I actually am quite excited,” she said about being at the premiere. “I don’t know why I’m not nervous. I think we’ve done a bunch of these events now, and I’ve always said that the energy is always undeniable, but right now, it feels positive and great.” Stewart acknowledged the consistent fan support as one of the “Twilight”-related gifts for which she’s most grateful. “It’s cool for me, because I’ve never had this [amount of fan support] on any of my movies, and I feel like I’m one of them,” she said. “I feel like we share the exact same passion for this thing. It feels weird to be at the head of it, but it’s cool, I’ll roll with it.” Earlier in the night, MTV News chatted with “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer , who was glad that she wasn’t in Stewart’s shoes. “I’m so not used to this,” Meyer admitted when asked about the size and scope of the “Eclipse” premiere. “I only do this kind of thing once a year. The rest of the time, I am totally incognito. It’s nice to be the author, let me tell you. It’s so much easier than being the actor!” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer ‘Very Happy’ With ‘Eclipse’ Film

‘It’s so much fun to watch,’ she says of the third movie in the series. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Stephenie Meyer Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images When it comes to satisfying “Twilight” expectations, be it those of finicky film critics or easier-to-please Twilighters, no opinion carries more weight than the approval of the series creator herself. When MTV News spoke to celebrated author Stephenie Meyer, she said she is happy to just be the author who only has to come out for big premiere events once a year, versus the actors who are out doing promotion for weeks on end. Also, she is very pleased with the third adaptation of her best-selling series. “Oh, it’s really good,” she said of “Eclipse.” “It’s so much fun to watch. One of the ways I judge a good movie is I forget to be critical because I’m just having fun — and with this one, I definitely was having a good time watching it.” When asked about the decision to go back and re-shoot the infamous and highly anticipated “tent scene,” Meyer said the changes were minor, but necessary in order to fully capture the words and tone that made the scene so memorable in the book. According to Meyer, the result is “really satisfying.” “It was so simple — it was [just] a blocking issue,” Meyer explained of the decision to revisit the pivotal scene. “When Bella and Jacob crawl into the sleeping bag together, he didn’t put his arms around her, he was just kind of backed away from her — I wasn’t [on set] that day to say, ‘Hold it!’ [So] we went back and put that in. I’m very happy with that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson Related To Real Dracula, Vlad The Impaler

‘Twilight’ star reportedly shares ancestry with Transylvanian leader on whom Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ is believed to be based. By Gil Kaufman Robert Pattinson So that’s why he’s so believable! Just in time for the launch of “Eclipse,” genealogy researchers have unearthed evidence that the most famous fictional vampire of our time, Robert Pattinson, is related to the most famous vampire of all time, Vlad the Implaer. According to The Associated Press , researchers at Ancestry.co.uk have revealed that the 24-year-old “Twilight” hunk has ties to Vlad III Dracula, a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler, the Transylvanian leader widely thought to be the inspiration for the main character in Bram Stoker’s legendary 1897 novel “Dracula.” The tie between Pattinson and Vlad apparently comes via their common relationship to the British royal family. England’s Prince William and Prince Harry are Pattinson’s distant cousins and Vlad the Impaler was their distant uncle. Vlad was born in Transylvania and ruled over the region now known as Romania (then called Wallachia) from 1456 to 1462. Known as “the Impaler,” Vlad was famous for executing his enemies by driving wooden stakes into their bodies. “Tracing Pattinson’s family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to the ‘Twilight Saga,’ ” said Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com. “Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson’s life — making his story just as supernatural as the one he’s playing on screen.” And, in a connection only a publicist could dream of, the folks at Ancestry.com say that “Twilight” series author Stephenie Meyer also has ties to the British princes’ lineage, which means that, yes, she too is related to Dracula. Coincidentally, “Eclipse” opens Wednesday, June 30. Robert Pattinson Explains Sexiness Of ‘Twilight’ On ‘Nightline’

‘Eclipse’ star admits he took a Valium before auditioning for Catherine Hardwicke. By Gil Kaufman Robert Pattinson on “Nightline” Monday Photo: ABC For “Twilight” fans who felt there wasn’t enough Edward in “New Moon,” Robert Pattinson agrees . The actor said on “Nightline” Monday night, too, was frustrated at the spectral role his undead vampire hero played in the series’ second film, and that he’s excited to have a more robust presence in the upcoming third installment, “Eclipse.” “That was the most frustrating thing about the last one, I was just kind of straight on green screen, and I did it all in about two days at the end,” he said. In an era when the vampires of HBO’s “True Blood” get graphically involved with their human lovers, the chaste nature of the characters in Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” books has hooked a teen audience. But Pattinson — whose character insists that Edward and Bella must marry before consummating their love — thinks fans still enjoy the stories’ sexual tension. “If there was a hard and fast decision by both of them saying, ‘We’re going to remain virgins our entire life,’ it’s never going to happen,” he said. “I don’t think it would be a popular series. Anyone who likes the books, they all think they’re really sexy. They just like that moment, the kind of tipping point before it goes over. Everybody likes that. That’s the best part of a relationship.” And because auditions can be nerve-wracking, Pattinson admitted that he stole some Valium from a friend to calm his nerves before he auditioned for the first “Twilight” movie. “I knew it was going to be a long audition because I was doing a screen test and it was at the director’s house,” he said of his tryout for the first film with Catherine Hardwicke. “Twenty minutes before I had to leave, I suddenly started panicking. Luckily, the person I was staying with had enough Valium on their bedside table. I stole it. Probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.” Pattinson, 24, also admitted that the rush of instant success he’s had since “Twilight” became a worldwide phenomenon has made him question his mortality and good fortune. “I guess I just thought if too many good things happen, then you’re going to die at 30,” he said. “I was like, ‘I didn’t want that to happen.’ ” And when interviewer Chris Connelly noted that good things keep happening to him, Pattinson responded, “Yeah, so probably I’m going to die at 30. Actually, it’s God saying, ‘You shouldn’t have asked for too much.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Bozell Column: MTV’s Pinata of Profanity

It should tell you something that MTV is still highly valued by Hollywood as the televised center of the coolness universe. Why else would a top movie star like Tom Cruise dress up ridiculously as a fat, bald, bearded guy and embarrass himself in a profanity-littered skit on the MTV Movie Awards? Cruise opened the show by saying he was going to take the program, put it up his posterior, and make it a diamond. He welcomed viewers to “Relax, and enjoy my two-hour giant s—.” And so it began, an apt description for the two hours that followed. What is it about celebrities that they have to – absolutely must – be obscene in front of audiences with millions of impressionable children watching? Broadcast networks have had repeated trouble at awards shows with celebrities cursing. But on cable television, which fears no fines or discipline from the Federal Communications Commission, MTV doesn’t see profanity as a shocking accident. On this show, it was an intentional profanity barrage. If you love infantile cursing as dearly as MTV does, it was a stimulating profanity bath. And it was staged. Actress Anna Kendrick asked, “Ready to make the censors’ ears bleed?” A review of the 122-minute special by the Culture and Media Institute found more than 100 swear words. (Once you remove the incessant commercials, that was more than one a minute.) Network censors bleeped 70 curse words, including a remarkable 47 variations of “f—,” 11 uses of “s—,” two of “a–h—,” one slang expression for breasts, and nine even the watchdogs couldn’t identify. But at least 30 profanities made it past the censors, including nine variations of “f—-,” two of “s—” and one “goddamn.” The censors didn’t even try to cover a whole host of other curse words. It was like candy coming out of a pinata. MTV censors grabbed as many as they could. One of the most egregious offenders was actor Peter Facinelli, who accepted the “Best Picture” award for the teen vampire drama “Twilight: New Moon.” He cooed “I’ve never heard the word ‘f—‘ used so many times in one evening.” He then went on to use it eight times himself, four of which made it past the censors. He only skipped cursing as he honored Stephenie Meyer, the author of the “Twilight” books, because he explained “she’s a Mormon.” That’s consideration, Hollywood-style.  MTV even worked the profanities into three award titles. One was the “Best Scared as S— Performance.” This apparently required S-bombs in the introduction, as comedian Steve Carell declared “When I watched [the low-budget horror movie] ‘Paranormal Activity,’ I literally s— myself.” When predictable controversy erupted, MTV issued a plastic apology: “The MTV Movie Awards is a live televised event known for irreverent comedy and a party atmosphere where our guests speak more freely than they otherwise might. While we aired the live broadcast with a delay, we were unable to mute every word that some might find objectionable. All of these words will be muted in subsequent airings.” That’s responsibility, Hollywood-style. Left unaddressed: how MTV’s “party atmosphere” was entirely their doing. All this cursing was about as unplanned as last year’s Movie Awards stunt, where Sacha Baron Cohen’s bare butt floated in the air just inches away from the face of the rapper Eminem, who feigned outrage and “stormed out.”  The idea that MTV execs would place any of the blame on the celebrities is simply laughable. They put cursing in their award titles, stuffed into their pre-recorded skit with Tom Cruise, and clearly expected a stream of it from their un-famous master of ceremonies, comedian Aziz Ansari. Many of these stars have no trouble appearing in other venues without cursing their faces off. Clearly, in this venue, they were bowing to what they felt MTV wanted. If this spectacle wasn’t enough, MTV heavily promoted throughout the Movie Awards show its new scripted comedy, “The Hard Times of R.J. Berger.” The show’s main plot device? Young Berger loses his pants on the high-school basketball court, demonstrating to the entire school that he has an enormous penis. That’s taste, Hollywood-style. MTV promos during the Movie Awards showed a godly glow coming from R.J.’s crotch, and twisted the Bible to joke “The meek shall inherit the girth.” Before his indecent exposure, R.J. lamented “I’m God’s urinal cake.” One nerdy girl tells R.J. “Any time, any place, any orifice.” She also refers to menstruation as “a vampire buffet.” The Los Angeles Times it declared this raunchy “Berger” show was like the movie “Superbad,” only “minus the humor, warmth, and believability” – and then declared MTV had a hit on its hands with it. Will MTV blame the actors on “Berger” for repeating the disgusting language of MTV’s script?

Robert Pattinson Reflects On ‘Twilight Saga’ Success At MTV Movie Awards

‘I just have to keep working to not explode,’ he tells MTV News of the wild ride. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — A long time ago, in a faraway land (OK, maybe it was just Portland), the stars of the “Twilight” series were nobodies. Hopes weren’t terribly high when that girl from “The Messengers,” Mike Dexter from “Can’t Hardly Wait” and the kid who died in the “Harry Potter” movies came together to shoot Stephenie Meyer’s first novel. But as the “Saga” stars dominated another MTV awards show this weekend, Robert Pattinson couldn’t help but marvel at how far they’ve come. “It’s crazy,” the spiky-haired superstar marveled at the MTV Movie Awards , looking back on simpler times. “For it to have accelerated so quickly.” At the 2008 Movie Awards, the first “Twilight” film was barely approaching the end of production when some last-minute scrambling had Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart walking the red carpet … so unnoticed that they had to go back and start again because no one was stopping them for questions. Well, except us . “I should have done a more coherent speech for the Global thing,” RPattz said of his Global Superstar win, appreciating the massive audience all over the world that has tuned in over the past few years to hang on his every word (that is, when he’s not being cut off by the host ). “It’s just so ridiculous.” The 2009 Movie Awards were the culmination of the chaos, as KStew and RPattz’s initial wave of fame swept over Universal City. This time, the stars were accompanied by Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Taylor Lautner and Peter Facinelli — many of whom weren’t even invited the previous year. By the end of the night, they were the new kings and queens of the show. “I still don’t have any idea what’s going on,” Rob admitted to us backstage this year. “I just have to keep working to not explode. “I’m incredibly appreciative of every little piece that’s come together,” he concluded, flashing that same charming, uneasy grin that he’s brought with him to Universal City for the past three years, “so I can be living this ridiculous life.” Relive the wildest, funniest and most-jaw-dropping moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, watch revealing red-carpet interviews and get exclusive movie clips after the show at MovieAwards.MTV.com .
