In a short excerpt (via People) from her forthcoming memoir, “True Love,” Lopez, 45, recalls the day she revealed her marriage was over and the thoughts about relationships that followed. The singer was on the set of a photo shoot in July 2011. Things on the outside seemed to be picture perfect for Lopez: She had recently celebrated her seventh wedding anniversary (June 5), her twins Max and Emme were doing well and her newest single, “On the Floor,” had soared to number one around the world. But on the inside, Lopez was struggling with her relationship. “In a blur of fear and panic, I looked at Benny [Medina] and my mother and blurted out the words: ‘I don’t think I can be with Marc anymore.’ Then I burst into tears,” Lopez writes. “It was out. The thing I feared more than anything in the world. I collapsed into their arms and began to sob.” Lopez and Anthony publicly announced their divorce on July 15, 2011. “Hardest. Day. Ever,” she dramatically sums up. In the year that followed, Lopez launched her Dance Again tour, on which she wanted to show the “truth about abusive relationships.” Lopez never says her seven-year marriage to Anthony was abusive, although she once called their relationship “very Sonny and Cher,” and also opens up about abuse in her past. “I’ve never gotten a black eye or a busted lip, but I’ve been in relationships where I have felt abused in way or another: mentally, emotionally, verbally,” she writes. “I know what it feels like for your soul to be diminished by the way your loved one is treating you.” The “Booty” singer’s list of exes include Diddy, Casper Smart, three ex-husbands Ojani Noa, Chris Judd and Anthony and a highly publicized engagement to Ben Affleck. Lopez says it took her years to learn that abusive relationships fall on the shoulders of both partners. “Because every day that you don’t walk out that door, every day you accept things in your partner and in yourself, is a day that you’re saying it’s okay,” she writes. “True Love” is released on Nov. 4. Domestic violence is definitely a hot-button issue…but it’s rare you hear of celebs coming forward to speak of emotional and verbal abuse. War Machine Attempts Suicide In Jail Cell The MMA Fighter who burst into his ex-girlfriend’s home and beat her within an inch of her life is having a hard time in jail, apparently. He made a near-successful suicide attempt on Tuesday evening before guards found and resuscitated him. Via ESPN : Former MMA fighter War Machine is in medical isolation in a Las Vegas jail after a suicide attempt earlier this week, police confirmed Thursday, according to multiple reports. A Clark County Detention Center guard found War Machine, formerly known as Jonathan Koppenhaver, on Tuesday night after he tried to hang himself, according to authorities. Police said Koppenhaver was unresponsive when found. Koppenhaver’s attorney, Brandon Sua, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the fighter’s vital signs had “completely stopped” and that he was “pretty much dead” when found. Sua also said officials found “multiple” suicide notes in Koppenhaver’s cell. Koppenhaver, 32, is being held without bond on charges of attempted murder, domestic battery by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault, stemming from an alleged incident involving his ex-girlfriend and adult film actress Christy Mack on Aug. 8 at her Las Vegas residence. The professional mixed martial artist faces the possibility of life in prison. A preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Friday, but the Review-Journal reported that lawyers told a judge Wednesday that they wanted to try negotiate with prosecutors. Koppenhaver was extradited to Las Vegas from Ventura County, California, on Aug. 30, after he was arrested in a Los Angeles suburb. Sua told the Review-Journal that his client’s depression and anxiety had “increased since his August arrest.” SMH.
This is horrific … ISIS Beheads Alan Henning ISIS has beheaded yet another hostage, this time British aid worker Alan Henning. This is the FOURTH beheading by the Islamic State terrorist group. The New York Daily News reports : A new Internet video released Friday purportedly shows the beheading of another innocent British hostage by Islamic State terrorists. The horrific clip of Alan Henning marked the fourth ISIS video showing the savage death of a Western hostage — two from the United States and two from Britain. Henning, a 47-year-old former taxi driver, was kidnapped last December while working in an aid convoy crossing into Syria from Turkey. His wife has begged ISIS for Henning’s release. The video ended ominously with an ISIS terrorist threatening another man identified as an American citizen. The gruesome tape appeared shot in the same style as the three prior beheadings, although its authenticity was not immediately confirmed by U.S. or British officials. How horrible is this???? When does it end???
Everybody gets one… NFL Enacts Stricter Policy On Domestic Abuse The NFL has come under fire for its lenient punishment of domestic abusers . Now, the Commissioner is looking to change things. Via DailyMail : The National Football League has enacted stiffer punishments for any personnel who commit domestic violence. In a letter to team owners, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said players, coaches and owners now face a six-game suspension for a first offense and a lifetime ban for a second. Goodell said second-time offenders may petition for reinstatement after a year, but with no guarantees. Harsher penalties could also be levied for offenders with incidents before joining the NFL or ‘violence involving a weapon, choking, repeated striking, or when the act is committed against a pregnant woman or in the presence of a child,’ the letter states. The NFL has been criticized for its inconsistent and often lax penalties for off-field offenses. Ravens running back Ray Rice, for example, had to sit out just two games for hitting his now-wife Janay in an Atlantic City casino. In contrast, Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon had to stay out of the 2014 season and was banned for a full year for testing positive for marijuana. In his letter, the commissioner admitted that he ‘didn’t get it right.’ ‘We allowed our standards to fall below where they should be and lost an important opportunity to emphasize our strong stance on a critical issue and the effective programs we have in place,’ Goodell wrote. ‘My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment, and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families. I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values.’ The NFL Players Association said the union was informed of the new policies but didn’t have to approve it, as it’s a change in personal conduct policy, a source told USA Today Sports. SMH Former Boxing Champ Jermain Taylor Charged With Shooting Cousin Via ESPN Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was arrested Tuesday night at his home in Maumelle, Arkansas, a suburb of Little Rock, in connection with the shooting of his cousin, according to police. Taylor was taken into custody, booked into the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility and charged with two felonies — first-degree domestic battery and aggravated assault — Lt. Carl Minden, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, told ESPN.com. The cousin was in serious condition at a hospital after being shot multiple times, Minden said. Taylor appeared via video from the Pulaski County jail for an initial appearance Wednesday. District Judge Wayne Gruber set bail at $25,000 and granted a defense request for Taylor to travel out of state to train and compete in a bout against Sam Soliman in October. Minden said the police responded to a 911 call from Taylor’s wife, Erica, at around 7 p.m. ET. “Mr. Taylor’s cousin and another individual came to his residence, and there was some sort of altercation,” Minden said, adding that the two who showed up at Taylor’s home were unarmed. “At some point, Mr. Taylor retrieved a handgun and fired several rounds. His cousin was struck multiple times. The cousin is alive and in serious condition at an area hospital. He has pretty serious injuries. The other person was not struck, but Mr. Taylor had fired several rounds and missed.” Guess blood is just as thin as water. We gotta stop killing each other. We have enough enemies as it is. Speak Out On Ferguson Reaction To Mike Brown Murder Veteran rapper and St. Louis native Nelly is speaking out with his two cents on how the city of Ferguson has reacted to the unjust killing of Mike Brown. Nelly, along with long-time friend and fellow rapper T.I. feel that the residents may have reacted too soon. via TMZ Nelly has a message for protesters in his hometown … cut the crap! The King of St. Louis finally talked publicly about the shooting death of Michael Brown … saying the people of Ferguson jumped the gun by protesting too early, contributing to the violence. Nelly tells TMZ … “I understand the frustration, but we have to strategize before we overreact … We don’t get no do-over on sh*t like this, so we have to do it right the first time.” The rapper adds, “Ain’t nothing happen no different that hasn’t been happening … At the end of the day, we should have waited to strategize first and take all the right steps to organize.” T.I. had similar thoughts, telling us … “We needed to play chess instead of checkers. We should have waited to see if justice was going to be served first … We shouldn’t have played our strongest hand first.” Nelly tells us he wants to do something constructive, so he’s starting a scholarship fund in Michael Brown’s name. Sad, sad, sad … 3-Year-Old Girl Killed In Philadelphia During Shootout Via NBCPhiladelphia A 3-year-old girl, shot as she was sitting on a porch, has died after a man opened fire along a Philadelphia street following an argument. Three others were also hit by gunfire. Gunshots rang out around 9:40 p.m. on Friday along the 1500 block of S. Etting Street near 27th Street in the Grays Ferry section of the city, police said. Philadelphia Police Capt. Michael Gormley said two men began arguing along the block when one pulled out a gun and started firing. A stray bullet hit the girl in the left side of her chest, Gormley said. Witnesses tell NBC10.com that the girl was getting her hair done when she was struck. Family and friends say the girl did not live at the home and that her mother was around the corner at the time of the shooting. Officers arriving on the scene put her in a patrol car and rushed her to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, officials said. But despite trauma doctor’s efforts, she was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. Sadly enough, this little girl was not the only victim of this shooting… Three other people were also hit by the gunfire, police said. The other man involved in the argument was shot in the head. He was rushed by officers to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said. He remains there in critical condition. A 21-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman who police say were bystanders, were also struck. The man was struck in the leg. He was taken to HUP where he is currently in stable condition. The woman was struck in the arm. She was also taken to HUP where she was treated and released. Witnesses say the shooter fled the scene on his bicycle. Police took a person of interest into custody near the scene, but have not identified him as a suspect.
