Brought to You by the Letter “$”… Is Sesame Street Losing Money??

Can you tell me how to get how to get to… the bank?? Looks like everyone’s favorite childhood show might be losing some serious guap. Yes. Sesame Street and its production company the Sesame Workshop do make a lot of money from product licensing, but not nearly enough to cover expenses. According to the company’s most recent financial report, the Workshop earned about $45 million in merchandising during 2010, which accounted for one-third of its total revenue. The rest came mainly from distribution fees and royalties, and from an assortment of private donors, corporate sponsors, and government grants. 45 mili?? That’s it? But wait, there’s more… That may sound like more than enough to make a puppet-based television show, but according to the same report, the operating expenses for the Sesame Workshop totaled about $133 million, including $37 million for production and development of TV shows at home and abroad; $41 million for production and distribution of non-TV content including apps, home video, and live entertainment; and a hair under $7 million for “Muppet acquisition.” The rest of the money goes towards education, outreach and fundraising expenses. Only about $4 million comes from PBS annually, and in return PBS only gets back SOME of the cost. Everyone grew up watching Sesame Street, could you imagine it not being on for future generations? And Big Bird wept. SOURCE

Iowa Caucus Comedown, Jenks Counts The Votes

‘If I convinced a few of those … girls I met the other night at Mullets to vote, maybe I could have swayed’ the outcome, Andrew Jenks says from Iowa. By Andrew Jenks Andrew Jenks Photo: MTV News DES MOINES, Iowa — Up all night. It’s 2 a.m. and I just got back from the Rick Santorum speech , followed by a Mitt Romney speech in which neither declared victory in the Iowa caucus. Who ever, ever, ever thought this would happen? Romney, who a month ago never thought he could actually win in Iowa, one-on-one with Santorum, who two weeks ago nobody thought could win anything. And the results we just got … Romney by 8 votes . Eight votes! The closest Iowa caucus in history, it was declared on Wednesday (January 4). What? If I convinced a few of those loud, beer-drinking girls I met the other night at Mullets to vote, maybe I could have swayed the election. If I’d pushed harder with that undecided couple … things might have gone a different way. But as I leave Iowa , I think about all those young people I’ve spoken with. I think about those eight that said they weren’t going to vote. But it must be a proud day for them. They have a unique system: When it comes down to voting time, you go to a local school, firehouse, sometimes even a house, and talk it through with everyone — then you cast your ballot. But I will also think about their lives in Iowa. Starting today, all of the cameras and worldwide press move on. On Thursday, Iowa will be a completely different state. And that is what makes this place so surreal. Within the last few weeks, I have gotten to know the locals, members of the media — I shook hands with nearly every candidate. But I don’t know the name of a single person that lives on my floor in NYC. When I saw Rick Santorum a few weeks back he said smiling, “Oh, it’s you guys again!” When I was at Drake, I saw a few students I met a month ago, and we talked for quite awhile. Leaving Iowa is strange, because it doesn’t take long to really get to know everyone. MTV is on the scene in Iowa! Fabolous Champions Meek Mill’s ‘Young Energy’

Don’t miss Fabolous, Maino and Skillz on ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Fabolous Photo: MTV News Fabolous has collaborated with a ton of MCs in his 10-plus years in the rap game. From Jay-Z and Lil Wayne to Rick Ross and Kanye West, Loso has spit with the best of them, but a feature with newcomer Meek Mill has the veteran Brooklyn lyricist especially excited. Fab, who will be a guest on Wednesday’s (January 4) “RapFix Live,” invited Meek Mill to jump on “You Don’t Know ‘Bout It,” a track off of his recently released There Is No Competition III mixtape . “I think Meek is, like, young energy, what hip-hop needs,” Fabolous told MTV News last month. “I always like to see new, young energy come into the game.” Meek hails from Philadelphia and has made his name as an artist on Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, but it isn’t just Mill’s skills on the mic that Fab admires. Loso also appreciates the “I’mma Boss” rapper’s ability to overcome the hardships he faced in the street. “It shows a person from the same walk of life you come from reaching something that they wanted to do against the odds of what could’ve happened,” Fabolous said of Meek’s past. “I know a little bit of his story where he went to jail and stuff like that, so it’s good to see him actually doing something that he’s pursuing and being successful at that. I like that as well, just even being able to collaborate with that.” Catch Fabolous, Maino and Skillz on “RapFix Live” Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. PETA to Janet Jackson: You’re Nasty!

PETA doesn’t care that Super Bowl viewers saw a glimpse of Janet Jackson’s boob a few years ago. This irritating organization is far more concerned over the fact that the singer is wearing a fur coat in a new promotional ad for her Blackgama clothing line, as seen here: Naming Jackson its Grinch of the Year, PETA issued a statement this week that reads: “When Janet Jackson had her infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own. Unlike the stolen animal skins that she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion (not to mention her career). Ms. Jackson, you’re just plain nasty.” And PETA knows a thing or two about nastiness. In order to drum up attention for itself animals, the company is starting a porn site .

Rachel Uchitel Confirms, Tweets Proof of Pregnancy

Matt Hahn got Rachel Uchitel pregnant . We’ve known since October, when she tried out for The Amazing Race and her random drug test confirmed it. Now she’s confirmed the news, however. The 36-year-old nightclub manager Tweeted: “Expecting big things for 2012. Five down, four months to go.” Here’s a nice photo she posted as well. Melts your heart. Uchitel, whose claim to fame is having affairs with married golfer Tiger Woods and married Bones star David Boreanaz, married Matt Hahn in October. “We are both really happy and feel extremely fortunate to have one another,” she said at the time in a statement announcing her second marriage. Prior to marrying Hahn, Uchitel was engaged to investment banker James Andrew O’Grady, who was killed in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. Uchitel then went on to marry Wall Street trader and childhood friend Steven Ehrenkranz in 2004, though their union lasted just four months. She also hooked up with Jamie Dingman , a wealthy businessman now believed to be dating Elin Nordegren. Yeah, Uchitel is a sketchy chick. Congrats on the baby though!
