Music producer Hit-Boy surprised fans with his rap skills on “Jay-Z Interview,” but his soulful debut rap single was no fluke: Hit is serious about his craft. “I definitely have more stuff coming out very soon,” the multi-platinum hitmaker told MTV News in Los Angeles. “I have a song called ‘Old School Caddy’ that I’m going to be putting out very soon, featuring Kid Cudi ,” he revealed. Hit-Boy, who has produced for Kanye West, Lil Wayne and most recently Justin Bieber, on his Believe LP, assured us that he has rap records stacked up. He isn’t planning to release an entire project just yet, however. He is just working on songs right now. It was veteran rap producer Bink who made the beat for Hit’s “Jay-Z Interview,” but for “Old School Caddy,” HB got behind the boards himself. He described the track as “classic hip-hop,” and while that term may mean different things to different people, Hit-Boy specifically drew his inspiration from OutKast for his next single. ” Aquemini is one of my favorite albums by OutKast. I wanted to do a record that felt like it could’ve been on there but for our generation,” Hit said of the iconic duo’s 1998 album. “I did the record and I let Cudi hear it, and he asked to be a part of it, so it was just an organic, great thing.” Hit-Boy wouldn’t say if he was going to appear vocally on G.O.O.D. Music’s upcoming album Cruel Summer , though he did admit that he laid down verses for the highly anticipated project. “I’m just making music with them, so stuff will end up where it is supposed to,” he said. “That’s family and they’re the best in the world in my opinion, so I can’t lose. ‘We all miss the rush of being onstage together,’ Nick Lachey tells Ryan Seacrest. By Jocelyn Vena 98 Degrees Photo: Back in April, Nick Lachey had the message “#neversaynever” for his fans after he shot down rumors that 98 Degrees would be hitting the road this summer. The excitement over a possible 98 Degrees reunion began to spread in late March after the band’s website was spruced up, leading fans to speculate that something greater was coming. Now, a few months later, the rumors seem to finally be coming true — in part, at least. The band just announced they will be reuniting for one show this summer. On Wednesday, Nick Lachey opened up to Ryan Seacrest about their plans to take the stage at the MixTape Festival in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in August. “I think we’ve all been lucky in the 11 years since we last performed together to go on and do stuff individually. Drew [Lachey] was the winner of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ season 2, and I’ve gone and done some solo stuff. But there really is nothing like coming together as a unit, as a group, as a band, on the stage, and I think we all miss that. We all miss the rush of being onstage together, performing together, and certainly the fans have kind of been clamoring for it, so it just felt right,” he said. “We always said we were not broken up, we were just taking a break, and now it just seemed like the right time to put everything back together.” He also clarified his previous declaration that the band would not be getting together at all, despite the original spate of rumors. “I didn’t say we weren’t going to do it, but there was some speculation about a full tour happening this summer and our fans have been kind of eager to see us get back together,” he said. “I just wanted to make sure that they understood that a full tour wasn’t happening this summer, but obviously [I’m] very excited to announce that we’re doing this big festival in Hershey in August. So that will be our one and only appearance.” While brother Drew notes that they would have to be able to shuffle around their schedules in the right way to make dates outside of the MixTape Festival work, he added that this particular date felt like the right event to test out the waters for something bigger in the future. “We’re very excited about the opportunity, and we’ve been toying around with the idea for a couple years of ‘if we got back together, when would be the right scenario?’ ” he said. “And this music festival right here just kind of seemed like the right time to get back together and do a show and kick the tires and see how it feels.” Other boy bands on the lineup for the MixTape Festival include the Wanted, New Kids on the Block and New Kids/ Backstreet Boys mega-band NKOTBSB. But authorities are reportedly calling for extra security at the NY show following Drizzy’s nightclub brawl with Chris Brown. By Rob Markman Drake Photo: Despite numerous reports to the contrary, the NYPD confirmed to MTV News there are no plans to arrest Drake before his show in Long Island, New York, tonight and the investigation into the YMCMB star’s nightclub brawl with Chris Brown is still ongoing. But that doesn’t mean authorities are taking things lightly before tonight’s concert: TMZ is reporting that New York State Police are calling for extra security at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre following the Thursday morning scuffle between Brown’s and Drizzy’s entourages in a New York City club. Reps for Drake have maintained that the Toronto MC did nothing wrong . On Friday night, Cash Money CEO Birdman weighed in on the incident. “To me, Drizzy ain’t did nothin’ wrong, he ain’t done nothin’ wrong to nobody. He’s just doin’ great music,” he told MTV News exclusively. “He’s not a reckless guy out there just wildin’ out; he’s a humble kid makin’ great music.” There has been a ton of finger-pointing following the brawl, which reportedly involved members of both Drake’s and Breezy’s respective crews. Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos has been very vocal in implicating Drake as the main culprit in the incident. “I have turned over evidence that it was Drake who instigated this,” he told the New York Post. “The evidence makes it clear that Chris is the victim of all this. “I believe the police are building a case against Drake and his thugs,” he continued. The police did confirm with MTV News that the case was ongoing but would not confirm that they were ready to arrest the Take Care MC or anyone in connection to the brawl. Coincidently, the manager of the W.I.P. nightclub (where the incident occurred) was arrested Friday due to existing warrants unrelated to the incident. Drake has big plans for tonight’s concert, which is a scheduled part of his critically acclaimed Club Paradise Tour. During an interview with DJ Scoob Doo’s BreadOverBed.com, Drizzy said he plans to outdo Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert. After a radio DJ insulted Nicki Minaj just hours before she was scheduled to perform at the June 3 concert in New Jersey, YMCMB boss Lil Wayne pulled the plug on his label’s all-star performance. “I’ve got everyone you would want to see, plus people that you wouldn’t expect to see,” Drake said. I don’t know when they’re going to release it,” Carell said. “I’ve signed on to do it. I’m excited. It’s a good script.” Miller, the director of “Moneyball,” will helm a cast that includes Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Tatum. “Foxcatcher” tells the true-life story of John duPont, millionaire and member of the famous family. DuPont established a wrestling training site for Olympians, and one day murdered gold medalist David Schultz (Tatum). The project is certainly high profile, considering both the A-list cast and the awards success Miller had last year with “Moneyball” and his first feature, “Capote.” Carell seemed genuinely excited about the start of production, but when the discussion turned to a potential abdominal comparison between him and Tatum, things got deathly serious and seriously funny. Asked if he was getting in shape, Carell replied: “No need. Brown reportedly needed eight stitches to close up his wounds. By Gil Kaufman Chris Brown Photo: A spokesperson for the New York nightclub W.i.P. told MTV News on Friday (June 15) that club management had turned over to police investigators video footage of the melee between the entourages of Chris Brown and Drake . An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the videotape had been turned over and that police were reviewing it as part of their investigation. At press time the police would not give any further details about the findings, but TMZ reported earlier in the day that Brown had given a statement to police and that his lawyer had handed over unspecified “physical evidence” that allegedly implicates Drake in the fight. Drake’s reps had also reportedly spoken to investigators, but the NYPD spokesperson declined to specify who had come forward so far, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The W.i.P spokesperson also cautioned that a widely circulated video labeled as footage of the fight is actually an unrelated clip shot in a different club in New Jersey. And while some sources have claimed that the fight was not over the men’s mutual history with Rihanna, an unnamed source told Us Magazine that the “We Found Love” singer “loves” the suggestion that she was the cause. “Men fighting over her? Are you kidding? Of course. [She] loves the drama,” the source said. Radar Online reported on Friday (June 15) that Rihanna consoled Brown on Thursday night at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club in New York all night and, “it was clear that she loved the attention he was giving her … those two have a thing for each other that will never die, no matter what, and they’re on their way to really being back together. Chris just adores her. And she tended to him, making sure the gash on his chin from the fight was OK.” The site also reported that Brown needed eight stitches to close up the wound on his chin and had to get a tetanus shot as well. His bodyguard, Big Pat, reportedly needed 20 stitches to close up the wound on his head and also received a tetanus shot, while Brown’s girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, sustained minor cuts and had some glass fragments removed from her skin. TMZ added that NBA player Tony Parker suffered a serious eye injury during the bottle blitz. “I was there with a bunch of friends when the fight broke out,” he said. “They started to throw bottles about. I got it all .. the cornea has been touched. I can’t do anything for seven days. But I was lucky. The injury won’t prevent me from competing in the Olympics in any way.” The star San Antonio Spurs point guard will represent his native France in the summer games. A person who was reportedly at the club on the night of the melee said it was sparked when a member of Drake’s entourage threw a bottle at Brown’s crew, but that “Chris and Drake never got in each other’s faces … it was entourage versus entourage, never Drake versus Chris.” Nobody seems to want to go on the record, but several anonymous witnesses also reportedly told TMZ that a member of Brown’s 16-member crew, “was throwing gang signs and screaming at Drake’s table.” Witnesses pegged that dreadlocked man as the “primary instigator” of the brawl, claiming he verbally taunted Drake’s table and yelled out, “somebody’s gonna die.” He also later allegedly threatened rapper Meek Mill, saying, “F— you, we’re gonna kill you n—a.” As this was going on, Brown is reported to have stood up and embraced the dreadlocked friend. If the purported gang signs were indeed thrown and are on the videotape being reviewed by police, TMZ reported that it could spell trouble for Brown, whose five years of probation from his felony assault conviction on Rihanna stipulates that he cannot associate with gang members. In another bit of potential fall-out from the scuffle, TMZ noted that the New York City Council is holding an emergency meeting with nightclub owners to discuss whether bottle service policies should be changed in the wake of the fight. “I am deeply concerned by reports of the bottle throwing melee that injured more than five people in SoHo this week,” said City Council speaker Christine Quinn in a statement. “That is why I have immediately convened an emergency meeting next week between my office, the NYPD, and the nightlife industry … The purpose of this meeting is to send a clear message to all nightclub patrons that bottles cannot be used as weapons and to determine if the guidelines surrounding bottle service need to be updated or reworked.” A number of photos have been posted online showing the purported aftermath of the bottle blitz, depicting the floor of the club awash in broken glass.
