The official version of a collaboration between Miley Cyrus and Rock Mafia has hit the Internet. Following a demo leak of “Morning Sun” that made its way online last year, the group has released the following listen today for free, giving fans an early copy of a track that will be featured on its upcoming EP. Cyrus mostly just sings backup vocals, but this isn’t the first time she has worked with the band. Pop Queen’s inclusion of lines from her ‘She’s Not Me’ makes medley seem more like dig than tribute. By John Mitchell Madonna Photo: AFP/Getty Images Madonna ‘s diva rivalry with Lady Gaga may be taken up a notch when her MDNA tour kicks off Thursday at Tel Aviv, Israel’s Ramat Gan Stadium. In new rehearsal footage , the 53-year-old legend is seen singing a mashup of her “Express Yourself” and Gaga’s “Born This Way” that concludes with a few lines from Madonna’s copycat-shaming “She’s Not Me.” Last year, when Lady Gaga released her hit single “Born This Way,” controversy erupted over the song’s similarity to Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” (Never mind that much of the resemblance is rooted in both songs’ use of a pretty common disco chord progression.) At first, things seemed cool between the two singers. They’d always gotten along publicly, and Gaga told Jay Leno that M’s camp reached out to say all was well in the diva-verse with regard to the songs’ similarities (something later denied by Madonna’s people). The whole thing appeared to have blown over until earlier this year, when Madonna was promoting her movie “W.E.” and her Super Bowl halftime performance during an ABC News interview. Madonna was asked what she thought of the comparisons, and in response she called Lady Gaga “reductive.” Gaga’s been pretty quiet throughout, but it’s hard not to wonder if she’ll stay that way once word of this latest swipe makes its way to her ears. (Gaga is currently in Asia on her tour, and she was recently forced to cancel a planned show in Indonesia after receiving threats from fundamentalist Islamic groups in the country.) New leaked footage from rehearsals for Madonna’s own road show showcases a reportedly planned mashup of “Express Yourself” and “Born This Way,” and while the resemblance between the two songs remains as striking as ever, that’s not the real story. Just those two songs layered together could have been fun: The two stars certainly have overlapping fanbases, who no doubt would have delighted in the winking acknowledgement of M’s influence on Gaga. But Madonna complicates things by concluding the medley with a few lines from her Hard Candy track “She’s Not Me,” a song about Madonna being emulated by another woman. The inclusion of “She’s Not Me” makes the medley seem like yet another scathing dig at Gaga. It’s unknown whether Madonna was just goofing around during rehearsals or whether she plans to include that final digging refrain throughout her tour. The New York Giants Get Their Superbowl Championship Rings According to TMZ reports : The New York Giants FINALLY got their Super Bowl rings last night — three months after winning the championship — and they’re more beautiful than we could ever have imagined. The ring — designed by Tiffany & Co. — is made of white gold and COVERED in diamonds. The top of the ring alone is lined with 37 blue sapphires. The ring (pictured above on cornerback Will Blackmon’s finger) also includes the final score of Super Bowl XLVI (21-17) — when Giants trounced the New England Patriots for the second time in four years. The four Vince Lombardi trophies (look for the footballs) represent the team’s four championships (1986, 1990, 2007 and 2011). It’s hard to put a value on something like a Super Bowl ring — but the hardware alone is probably worth five figures. Reformed British rockers are ‘honoured’ to serve as openers on European leg of Gaga’s tour, which kicks off August 14 in Bulgaria. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Perhaps looking for some actual Heavy Metal Lovers, Lady Gaga has tapped reunited British rockers the Darkness as the opening act on the first — though we’re willing to bet not last — leg of her Born This Way Ball, which kicks off August 14 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Darkness confirmed the news Tuesday morning (April 10) on their official site (which, in a very Darkness move, is called TheActualDarkness.com ), writing that they were “honoured [British spelling, extra classy] to announce their addition to the bill as main support for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball tour 2012.” The glammy, hammy rockers — best known for theatrical hits like “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” and “Growing on Me” — burned bright before imploding in 2006 , but announced a reunion (and plans for a new album) just last year. And as a way of kickstarting the next chapter of their career, frontman Justin Hawkins appeared in a well-received Samsung commercial that aired during Super Bowl XLV, in which he starred as a Spandex-clad pied piper who rescued folks from the monotony of everyday life. So, you know, it was basically a documentary. It’s not clear if the Darkness will serve as the opening act on all of Gaga’s Euro dates (a spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time), but, thanks to the Mother Monster herself, we now know that there are European dates for the much-discussed BTW Ball. Gaga unveiled the first 21 shows early Tuesday morning on her Twitter account. Tim Tebow Delivers Easter Sermon The New York Jets NFL star is set to bring a little extra Easter cheer to Georgetown, Texas this Sunday when he delivers the holiday sermon at Celebration Church. In preparation for the athlete’s weekend talk, the church tells local news outlet KVUE that they will erect bleachers outdoors on its 60-acre grounds to accommodate an expected crowd of 30,000. “Obviously it’s our Super Bowl,” pastor Joe Champion told KVUE in Austin. “Easter is the resurrection of Christ, which we celebrate in our faith. We feel like it’s going to be a testimony to the community. We want it to be a family event.” Set to speak for 20 minutes at the 10 a.m. service, Tebow, 24, was not originally scheduled to chat with parishioners on Easter Sunday, and pastor Champion is unsure as to why his church was chosen as the one Tebow would visit. “There will be the sacredness of Easter. In the hours following the release of the full Whitney Houston autopsy – which details a drug-laden hotel room and the state of the singer’s dead body, lying face down in a bathtub, blood pooling off her nose – many fans of the singer are reacting with disgust and sadness. But that’s nothing compared to the state of Whitney’s mother, Cissy. Insiders tell TMZ that Cissy Houston is “devastated” and “inconsolable” over these findings, crying uncontrollably after reading the evidence that her daughter suffered from a deep-seeded cocaine problem. “No one’s perfect. Only the Lord can judge,” Cissy has reportedly said in response to the sad truth, with her biggest fear being folks will now remember Whitney as a drug addict and not as one of the all-time great singers. Cissy simply hopes the public considers Houston’s iconic National Anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl before they think of the troubles that followed.
Producer Martin Solveig tells MTV News about recording ‘Give Me All Your Luvin,’ ‘I Don’t Give A’ and ‘B-Day Song’ with three fierce ladies. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Photo: Getty Images As if just having Madonna on her own album wasn’t enough, the Queen of Pop enlisted the help of two hip-hop princesses to up the girl-power quotient on MDNA . As she sat down with producer Martin Solveig to whip up tunes for her latest studio album, when it came time to bring more feistiness to the already-sassy album, she knew the only two artists who could perfectly compliment her were Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. (Maya Arulpragasam). Solveig explained to MTV News how the twosome came to appear alongside Madge on the album’s lead single, “Give Me All Your Luvin.” “I had this idea of just creating this sort of mini-gimmick that you could very easily use in the stadium or arena,” he said of the cheerleader-inspired chant in the song. “And so I thought of that, which was very basic. … That was the start. “In the first place, it was just the intro, and then it became a bit more of a gimmick, and she liked it, and so she thought, ‘We should have sidekicks to perform with me on the this.’ … She thought of very naturally Nicki and Maya to perform this because they are badass girls. “I was very surprised [it was the first single], and then it made it totally sense with her Super Bowl [performance] because, yes, it was definitely the Super Bowl song. And when we started, it was definitely not the case,” he explained. “We wanted to do something like this. It was a little surf-y. Then I guess when the Super Bowl was confirmed, they thought it would work for that, and I think it did.” Solveig broke down the recording sessions he and the ladies had for not only “Give Me,” but also the scathing “I Don’t Give A,” which features Nicki, and the funky “B-Day Song,” which has M.I.A. “We were the studio both one day with Nicki and two days with Maya,” he said. “They have both very strong personalities and very different. Nicki’s very pro. She’s like, once she arrives and she spends some time, she writes, seriously, her stuff and then she records very quickly, and she’s like bang . “And with Maya, she’s a bit more arty,” he said. “I didn’t see them together. I would have loved to witness this. Definitely, [Madonna] was definitely the perfect [middle].” The “I Don’t Give A” collaboration got a lot of press, thanks to its seemingly overt reference to Madonna’s life and her split from director Guy Ritchie. “A few days after I finalized the song, she finished the lyrics of ‘I Don’t Give A,’ and I could feel there was a lot of references to her life,” he said. “Nothing that I really know of, because you don’t know that kind of stuff, but then I saw it was very commented everywhere.” In the end, when it’s all said and done, Solveig noted that working with Madge was pretty awesome. “I got a call last year from [her manager] Guy Oseary, and he wanted to know if I was in town working, and that was the phone call of a lifetime when you’re a producer, when you heard all the legend and all the story. So I took the next plane and went to meet with Madonna, and I quickly got to work. “In the first place, it’s very confus[ing] because everything that’s all together, you have a very kind person in front of you, [and] you’re like, ‘Can you imagine who you’re talking to?’ and she’s very natural,” he continued. “She’s very easy-going, so you tend to forget it. But, of course, the first time, it’s crazy.”
‘Welcome to Twitter. You’re still banned from my show,’ Morgan writes to Madonna. The former “America’s Got Talent” judge has been going in on the singer for months, calling her everything from a “con artist” to “gruesome,” and making fun of her super-toned physique and Super Bowl halftime show. But on Monday, Morgan escalated the feud, sending a snippy message to Madonna in which he welcomed her to Twitter while smacking her down once again. The “Girl Gone Wild” singer had set up a special Twitter account on Monday in order to chat with her fans and Morgan wrote , “Welcome to Twitter @MadonnaMDNAday -you’re still banned from my show. Love Piers.” That crossed the line for Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, who responded with his own snap-tastic tweet , posting a letter from October 21, 2011, that says Morgan is “delighted to invite Madonna to be a special guest for his L.A. recording of his U.K. chat show — where she would be welcome to promote her new film and forthcoming album release (and perform two numbers).” Like a demented game of Hollywood power-broker tennis, Morgan fired the ball back, tweeting , “Madonna’s only been banned from my #CNN show @guyoseary – not my UK show, which sent that invite. But I’m now banning her from that too.” And he still wasn’t done! Morgan then banned Oseary from all his shows too, due to what he called “guilt by association.” Morgan has apparently felt slighted over the years by Madonna, especially during his days as an editor at England’s Daily Mirror newspaper, where he claims he was lied to by the singer’s publicist in order to ensure that a rival paper got Madge’s pregnancy announcement. Morgan caught Madonna on the same day she was finally extinguishing another feud, this one with EDM superstar deadmau5 , who had taken the 53-year-old pop icon to task for seemingly making a drug reference during her appearance last weekend at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
