Mitt Romney Wins Decisive Victory In Illinois Primary

Romney beat Rick Santorum by double digits in Tuesday’s primary. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney at his Illinois primary night party Photo: AFP Mitt Romney strung together two solid victories in a row on Tuesday night when he pulled off a decisive win in the Illinois presidential primary, the latest in a series of “must-win” contests in the GOP race to the White House. The former Massachusetts Governor is likely to pull in at least 41 of the 54 delegates at stake following his win over rival Rick Santorum, who he beat by a 47 to 35 percent margin. The other two candidates in the race, Texas congressman Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich hardly campaigned in the state and came in a distant third and fourth, with, respectively, 9 and 8 percent of the vote. “We thank the people of Illinois for this extraordinary victory,” Romney said to supporters gathered in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, according to CNN. “Elections are about choices. Today, hundreds of thousands of people in Illinois joined millions of people in this country in this cause.” If he gets 41 delegates, Romney’s total to date is 562, which puts him halfway toward the goal of 1,144 needed to clinch the GOP nomination. Once again, he turned his attention away from his fellow candidates an onto President Obama in his victory speech, saying, “It’s time to say this word: enough. We’ve had enough … We know our future’s brighter than these troubled times. We still believe in America, and we deserve a president who believes in us, and I believe in the American people.” Romney was feeling bullish after his huge victory in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico on Saturday, where he took more than 83 percent of the vote and likely all 20 delegates. Pundits said he needed a solid victory in Obama’s former home state in order to tamp down the growing buzz about the potential for a contested GOP convention in August should he fail to get enough delegates to close the deal before then. Though he had a rough week — which included gaffes in P.R. in which he said the nation needs to adopt English as its official language to gain statehood and a remark on Monday in which he claimed the unemployment rate “doesn’t matter to me” — Santorum was still defiant after his Illinois loss. “This is an election about fundamental and foundational things,” the former Pennsylvania Senator said during a gathering in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. “This is an election about not who’s the best person to manage Washington or manage the economy. We don’t need a manager, we need someone who’s going to pull government up by the roots and do something to liberate the private sector in America.” The race now moves on to Louisiana on Saturday, where, once again, Romney will attempt to prove that he can appeal to the party’s conservative base and that he can win in the South. Welcome Back: CNN Contributor Roland Martin Is Back From Suspension After Homophobic Superbowl Tweet Fiasco

What’s a lil’ homophobia between friends? SMH Atlanta-based CNN has lifted its month-long suspension of analyst Roland Martin, who had ruffled feathers last month with Super Bowl tweets construed by some as anti-gay. The network told staff Monday on a conference call, according to FishbowlDC on TVNewser. During the Super Bowl, Martin Tweeted: “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad,” he wrote, “smack the ish out of him!” Martin later said he is not a fan of soccer. “I was not referring to sexuality directly or indirectly regarding the David Beckham ad, and I’m sorry folks took it otherwise.” But CNN suspended him anyway, at the time releasing a statement: “Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated.” The 43-year-old columnist, commentator and author has been a regular contributor to CNN since 2007. Wonder if the folks from GLAAD are gonna run up on Roland like PETA and douse him with rainbow-colored paint? Source More On Bossip! Whitney Houston’s Funeral Returns Her To New Jersey Roots

Singer was born in Garden State and grew up singing in Newark church. By Gil Kaufman Whitney Houston in East Orange, NJ in 1987 Photo: Ron Galella/WireImage When Whitney Houston is eulogized and laid to rest on Saturday in New Jersey, it will complete the circle of her personal and professional lives in more ways than one. Houston, who died at age 48 last Saturday in a Beverly Hills hotel room of as-yet-undetermined causes, grew up in New Jersey and cut her teeth singing at Newark, New Jersey’s New Hope Baptist church. It is there that her family and friends will gather to remember a favorite daughter who burst onto the global music scene in the mid-1980s, never forgetting where she came from. Houston was the third and youngest child born, on August 9, 1963, to gospel great Cissy Houston and her late husband John, an entertainment executive and former Army serviceman. The couple raised their brood in what has been described as a strict but loving household in middle-class East Orange, New Jersey, where the family moved in 1967 following six days of riots in Newark tied to a police incident involving a black cabdriver. To her neighbors and childhood friends, Houston was known affectionately by her nickname “Nippy” and for the angelic, powerful voice she shared with them during Sunday worship services. Her Grammy-winning mother led the musical program at New Hope and the “I Will Always Love You” singer’s cousin Dionne Warwick also sang in the choir of the 112-year-old church. Whitney got her start as a soloist in the church’s junior choir at age 11. Houston was just one of the stars to rise from the city of 275,000, located 10 miles from New York City, which also spawned comedian Jerry Lewis and rock icon Paul Simon. According to local media reports, Houston kept those roots strong even after she ascended to stardom, dropping in every so often to sing at Easter Sunday services at New Hope and spending time with neighbors at barbecue and holiday gatherings. The town returned the favor, renaming a local elementary school near her childhood home Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in 1997. Houston would often drop in and spend time with the pre-kindergarten-through-eighth-grade students, who gathered for a memorial event on Monday where they heard speeches, released white balloons and listened to Houston’s legendary rendition of the National Anthem from Super Bowl XXV. Her funeral will be a private affair that will be streamed live online and offered to TV networks. New Hope Pastor Joe A. Carter will preside over the small, intimate ceremony, which he said will be a “celebration for one who has left us with so much,” and the eulogy will be given by gospel singer Marvin Winans. People magazine reported on Thursday that Houston’s “The Bodyguard” co-star Kevin Costner will speak at the funeral, which will also feature songs from Houston’s godmother, R&B icon Aretha Franklin, and Motown legend Stevie Wonder, in addition to words from her longtime record boss Clive Davis. New Jersey’s outspoken governor Chris Christie, meanwhile, was forced to defend his decision to have flags in the state flown at half-staff on Saturday following complaints. “What I would say to everybody is there but for the grace of God go I,” he said, according to The Associated Press . Christie brushed aside complaints that Houston, who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction during her life, is not deserving of such reverence. “Whitney Houston was an important part of the cultural fabric of this state,” Christie said. “She was a cultural icon in this state, and her accomplishments in her life were a source of great pride for the people of this state … I am disturbed by people who believe that because her ultimate demise — and we don’t know what is the cause of her death yet — but because of her history of substance abuse that somehow she’s forfeited the good things that she did in her life,” he said. “I just reject that on a human level.” Share your condolences with Whitney’s family and friends on our Facebook page. Drake, Rihanna Get ‘Super Close’ In ‘Take Care’ Video

‘It’s not narrative at all, and it involves animals,’ director Yoann Lemoine tells MTV News of new clip. By Tomika L. Anderson Rihanna and Drake Photo: NBAE/Getty Images Capturing the chemistry between Drake and Rihanna on the set of their new video wasn’t very hard, the director of the clip, Yoann Lemoine, told MTV News. The video for “Take Care” was shot during the Super Bowl. “They seemed to be super close and that’s what I wanted for the video,” Lemoine, best known for directing Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Taylor Swift’s “Back to December” and Mystery Jet’s “Dreaming of Another World,” told us. “They fit together pretty well so it was just easy.” Lemoine said the three-day shoot — which took place in a studio as well as a park — had a “very minimal” and “mellow” vibe, even though the track itself is decidedly more upbeat. “Visually, it’s a very humble video … it’s not crazy,” the alternative indie musician who also goes by the stage name Woodkid said. “It’s actually the most indie video I’ve done my whole life. It’s probably the most famous artists, and they were so open to a project that was so minimal.” “There’s a lot of space in the video and I wanted the visuals to pay tribute to that,” he continued. “It pays tribute to nature. When I listened to the track, I was seeing a landscape … involving animals and massive landscapes. I won’t say too much, but it’s very surprising that there are very few elements in it. It’s very simple but there’s this big sense of emptiness in it. It’s not narrative at all, and it involves animals.” The French filmmaker does not know when the video will air, but he did say that the editing process is going in a “very good direction.” Lemoine — who tweeted a picture of himself with the rap-and-R&B duo last week — admitted that they all watched the Super Bowl on the set between takes, but that there weren’t very many other distractions. “There’s something very minimal and very delicate [about it] in a way,” he added. “And it was very symbolic too.” Related Artists Drake Rihanna
