Dredd, White & Blue? Citizens Petition White House For Death Star, Street Judges & Master Chief Statue

We the People of the United States…are some weird dudes.  A clever but clearly tongue-in-cheek petition to build a Star Wars -style Death Star isn’t the only petition that’s been started on the Obama administration’s much-debated We The People website.  That’s the place where ordinary citizens can log in and lobby for change. When a petition registered on the site gets 25,000 signatures, the administration issues an official response to it, which, you might guess, means that there are quite a few wackadoo proposals on the site. In addition to the Death Star proposal, which needs more than 21,000 signatures before its Dec. 14 deadline, there is also a petition started by “Sean M” of San Francisco that seeks to establish a “new legal system of motorcycle riding ‘Judges’ who serve as police, judge, jury, and executioner all in one.” If you saw Dredd 3D   or are a fan of Judge Dredd comics, you’ll get the reference. If you’re like me, you’ll also start thinking of Karl Urban riding in formation with leather-clad Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg who also know how to scowl effectively. And for you gamer fans, nathan p of Columbus, Ohio has petitioned the administration to build a statue of Halo hero   Master Chief on the White House lawn, noting:  “He deserves more praise for what he has done.” Compared to those last two petitions, the Death Star proposal at least has some satirical bite, nothing that its construction will “spur job creation…and strengthen our national defense.” It could also boost Disney’s stock. It will be interesting to see if any of these petitions makes their 25,000-signature deadlines, which all fall at the end of next week. As of this posting, the Master Chief   statute proposal is in the lead with more than 4,700 signatures, and Halo fans are a passionate breed.  This could get interesting. Barack Tells Shady Politico’s To Stay Out Of Women’s Health Decisions!!! [Video]

Barack’s steppin’ up while Mittens is avoiding the questions altogether! He’s not even trying to act like he’s offended by all that rape=blessings kool-aid chitchatter that some of his supporters are spittin’. In an interview with NBC’s Brian Williams, POTUS was vocal about women’s health care choices. Brian Williams asked the President, ‘Mr. President, the subject of rape has been in the public discourse during the campaign year more than any time I can remember during American public life. you were asked about it last night, you have inserted a line in your speech, I noted about women’s health. is that as far as you’re comfortable going right now?’. And Barack wasn’t playin’ with his response, ‘Well, no, let me be very clear. These attempts to re-define rape in some way make no sense to me, and I don’t think they make sense to the vast majority of women across the country. But more broadly, I think what these episodes point to is the fact that you don’t want politicians, the majority of them male, making a series of decisions about women’s health care issues. You know, I’m very proud of my track record when it comes to having confidence that women can make their own decisions. You know, that is what I believe, that is how I govern, and those are the kinds of Supreme Court, you know, choices that I have made to remarkable women. And I think that it is important for women to have confidence that their president knows this is a set of decisions for them to make in consultations with their families, their clergy, it is not something that politicians need to get involved in.’ What’s your stance on this issue? Today, Marshall is clean, sober, and focused on being a dad to his daughter Hailie and his adopted daughter Alaina (“Laney” as he refers to her, is his ex-wife Kim’s twin sister’s daughter). As we thought about Marshall turning the big 4-0 we thought about the other 40 year-old rappers in the game today. Mittens Caught Red Handed: Encourages Business Owners To ‘Influence’ Their Employees Vote!

It may not be illegal but this thuggish isht should be criminal! Robney hopes get an up on votes by swaying CEO’s and, while we’ve been getting used to his shady azz , his encouragement goes against the definition of a ‘secret ballot’. According to The Huffington Post… In a June conference call hosted by the conservative-leaning National Federation of Independent Businesses, Mitt Romney encouraged business owners to let their employees know which candidate they support and how the election’s outcome will affect their business. During a telephone town hall with small-business owners, first reported by In These Times, Romney said President Barack Obama’s policies have hurt employers, criticizing the president on trade, labor, and his signature health care law. “It’s an anti-business, anti-job agenda,” Romney said. At the end of the call, Romney urged business owners to relay their thoughts on the election to their employees. “I hope you make it very clear to your employees what you believe is in the best interest of your enterprise and therefore their job and their future in the upcoming elections,” Romney said. “And whether you agree with me or you agree with President Obama, or whatever your political view, I hope, I hope you pass those along to your employees.” He continued: “Nothing illegal about you talking to your employees about what you believe is best for the business, because I think that will figure into their election decision, their voting decision, and of course doing that with your family and your kids as well. I particularly think our young kids … they need to understand that American runs on a strong and vibrant business and we need businesses growing and thriving this country.” Romney is correct that such behavior is not illegal. After the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling, which greatly expanded corporations and unions’ political speech, employers can legally compel workers to participate in political campaigns. However, the practice is often controversial…Arthur Allen, CEO of ASG Software Solutions, made a similar plea in a pro-Romney email leaked last week. “If we fail as a nation to make the right choice on November 6th, and we lose our independence as a company, I don’t want to hear any complaints regarding the fallout that will most likely come,” Allen wrote. These fools aren’t even try to hide this isht anymore. Images via WENN

MPAA Chief Chris Dodd Likes Republican Language On Internet Policy

The scepter of free speech and the protection of intellectual property via the internet reared once again, nearly a year since the Motion Picture Association of America -supported legislation first landed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, only to be resoundingly defeated after a well-coordinated backlash by internet heavy-weights Google Wikipedia and others. MPAA chief Chris Dodd , himself a former U.S. Senator from Connecticut (and a Democrat to boot) gave a thumbs up to the Republican Party’s platform language on intellectual property and the internet. Said Mr. Dodd today via an MPAA release: The Republican Party platform language strikes a very smart balance: it emphasizes the importance of us doing more as a nation to protect our intellectual property from online theft while underscoring the critical importance of protecting internet freedom.  As the party points out, the internet has been for its entire existence a source of innovation, and it is intellectual property that helps drive that innovation.  Copyright is the cornerstone of innovation; it allows creators to benefit from what they create.  As Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor – herself once a Republican elected official – wrote, ‘[I]t should not be forgotten that the Framers intended copyright itself to be the engine of free expression. By establishing a marketable right to the use of one’s expression, copyright supplies the economic incentive to create and disseminate ideas.’ I agree wholeheartedly with my friends in the Republican Party that we must protect the free flow of information on the internet while also protecting American innovators.  It is imperative to our national economy and our national identity that we protect an internet that works for everyone. The Republican platform spells out its interpretation of “Internet Freedom” including its opposition from shifting away from a “multi-stakeholder” approach to internet governance: The Internet has unleashed innovation, enabled growth, and inspired freedom more rapidly and extensively than any other technological advance in human history. Its independence is its power. The Internet offers a communications system uniquely free from government intervention. We will remove regulatory barriers that protect outdated technologies and business plans from innovation and competition, while preventing legacy regulation from interfering with new and disruptive technologies such as mobile delivery of voice video data as they become crucial components of the Internet ecosystem. We will resist any effort to shift control away from the successful multi-stakeholder approach of Internet governance and toward governance by international or other intergovernmental organizations. We will ensure that personal data receives full constitutional protection from government overreach and that individuals retain the right to control the use of their data by third parties; the only way to safeguard or improve these systems is through the private sector. Additionally, the Republican platform said regarding “foreign theft” of intellectual property: “Punitive measures will be imposed on foreign firms that misappropriate American technology and intellectual property.”

I’m Sorry Miss Jackson: Court Rules That CBS Won’t Have To Pay Up For Janet Jackson Superbowl 2004 Expose

CBS Escapes Fine For 2004 Superbowl Halftime Show Slip-Up CBS has managed to dodge a $550,000 fine for Janet Jackson’s bosom-bearing half-time show “slip-up” with Justin Timberlake. The Supreme Court decided Friday not to consider reinstating the government’s $550,000 fine on CBS for Janet Jackson’s infamous breast-baring “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl. The high court refused to hear an appeal from the Federal Communications Commission over the penalty. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals twice had thrown out the fine. The second time came after the Supreme Court upheld the FCC’s policy threatening fines against even one-time uses of curse words on live television. The appeals court said FCC’s policy of excusing fleeting instances of indecent words and images appeared to change without notice in March 2004, a month after Jackson’s halftime act. The judges said that made the agency’s action against CBS “arbitrary and capricious.” But now, the FCC clearly has abandoned its exception for fleeting expletives, Chief Justice John Roberts said. “It is now clear that the brevity of an indecent broadcast — be it word or image — cannot immunize it from FCC censure,” he said. “Any future ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ will not be protected on the ground relied on by the court below.” In addition, Roberts said that calling it a “wardrobe malfunction” when Justin Timberlake ripped away part of Jackson’s bustier “strained the credulity of the public.” CBS said it was grateful for the court’s decision. We’re just wondering why this is still being appealed eight years later. Surely there’s more pressing court matters to focus on….. like this one. Source Images via Wenn

Lamar Odom to Be Traded to Clippers

Following a disastrous stint on the Dallas Mavericks, which culminated in Lamar Odom being sent home and embarrassed by his poor play and lack of heart, this former world champion is returning to Los Angeles. A trade is nearing completion that would send Mr. Khloe Kardashian to the Clippers (in a complicated, three-time scenario, Mo Williams would end up on the Utah Jazz in return), the team that drafted him fourth overall in 1999. Odom, 32, averaged career lows in points, rebounds and minutes per game last year. He averaged career highs, however, in reality show cameos and red carpet appearances. The deal is expected to be finalized today, at which time E! cameramen will exchange high-fives and leave Dallas behind forever.

President Obama Praises Supreme Court Health Care Ruling; Celebrities Tweet Reactions

After the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Obamacare on Thursday, the President who fought and sacrificed for the controversial law praised the 5-4 ruling. While the court placed limitations on Congress’ power to regulate commerce and the U.S. government’s ability to restrict state funds, the law stood. The survival of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – pejoratively or affectionately called Obamacare – signaled a major victory for Barack Obama. “Today’s decision was a victory for people all over this country whose lives are more secure because of this law,” Obama said in a televised statement. President Obama Reacts to Supreme Court Health Care Ruling “I know the debate over this law has been divisive,” he added. “It should be pretty clear that I didn’t do this because it was good politics.” “I did it because I believe it is good for the country.” Obama encouraged on his Twitter account for Americans to share what the Supreme Court ruling means to them and some celebrities did just that. Here’s a sampling of some stars’ reactions … Jason Alexander: “I applaud the Supreme Court and congratulate the President today. The bill isn’t perfect, we can fix it, but it’s the right direction.” Piers Morgan: “Must be a lot of people watching Obama’s SCOTUS speech just now, thinking: ‘That’s why we voted for him.'” Bette Midler: “Obama Health Care passes! The wing nuts must be boiling!” Deepak Chopra: “I will be honored to be taxed for compassionate health care.” Sophia Bush: “I am so grateful for the Supreme Court, and I heart Barack Obama so much right now. He cares about us, the average citizens of this country, more than he cares about pleasing all the scared-to-change people in power. That’s heroic, admirable, and exactly what we need. F–k yes Mr. President, you are a unicorn.” – on a photo of Obama on a unicorn Bush posted. Holly Robinson Peete: “I run a non profit and talk to real people every day all day. Families cannot afford healthcare.” Seth MacFarlane: “We gotta stop that tycoon from turning our park into a shopping mall.” John Legend: “Supreme Court has me in a good mood right now. America getting closer to universal access to affordable health care. It’s about time.” Christina Applegate: “Um, for those who want to move to Canada because of ObamaCare, you may want to look up Canada healthcare on Wikipedia. Just saying’.” Jessica Stroup: “Hey Barack Obama this song’s for you now playing My Hero by Foo Fighters.” Star Jones: “I’m waiting for read the actual SCOTUS healthcare ruling…and try to make it ‘user friendly’ for most of us.” MC Hammer: “Strategy: Positioning this as a threat to lower income majority won’t gain any new voters, that card has already been played.” Waka Flocka: “ObamaCare!… just when they started to doubt my man.” Michael Moore: “It’s not ‘Obamacare’ – it’s Obama Cares.” Wanda Sykes: “Drama at CNN. Marcus Santos Pushes for Alec Baldwin Prosecution

When Alec Baldwin appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman Wednesday night, he was in a joking mood, mostly laughing off the altercation he got into with a photographer on the streets of New York City Monday. But Marcus Santos, the victim in this alleged attack by the actor , sat down with Good Morning America yesterday and found the entire incident far less funny. “I feel headaches, and my jaw is hurting me,” Santos told George Stephanopoulos of the aftermath, insisting that he never hit Baldwin with a camera but Baldwin did strike him in the face. “I was trying to move back to soft the blow. He just lunged at me.” Santos says the picture that ended up on the front page of The New York Daily News does not capture the proper “angle” to depict Baldwin’s punch, and that all he wants to do is snap photos in peace. “I’m just feeling so embarrassed to what he did to me. I like to take a picture and my picture be on the front page, not me be on the front page. I’m a news person. I record news, I go there and take my pictures I don’t want to be a part of the news.” But he does want to see Baldwin prosecuted. Along with his attorney, who also appeared on GMA , Santos said he hopes the law gets involved so what happened to him “doesn’t happen to anyone else.” Baldwin, meanwhile, doesn’t seem overly contrite. As the US Supreme Court readies to announce the health care ruling, [Daily News Editor] Colin Myler has ten “reporters” and “photographers” outside my bldg… he Tweeted yesterday.
