Meghan McCain Accused of Hypocrisy for David Hogg Criticisms

Over the weekend, millions of teens and others who dislike the constant threat of mass shootings poured out to attend rallies and protests to push for gun control. March For Our Lives had a number of critics. For example, Rick Santorum says that teens should take CPR classes instead of asking for the government to protect them and their peers. As you'll see in the video below, Meghan McCain is also criticizing the movement … because she disapproves of the language being used. We don't want to just write anyone's words out of context, so the video of her comments is below, but Meghan McCain said this of Parkland survivor David Hogg's speech: “One thing I will say is that you don’t move the narrative when you use language like this.” That line in particular came back to haunt her, but we'll get to that in a moment. “He said, ‘It just makes me think what sick blankers out there want to continue to sell more guns, murder our children and honestly just get reelected. What type of blanking person does that?'” She continues to quote him, saying: “'They could have blood from children splattered all over their faces and they don’t take action because all they see are dollar signs.’” She ends her quote with her final criticism. “I wish we could have it where the rhetoric isn’t that any of us could ‘have blood splattered on our faces and your life perspective wouldn’t be changed.’ I don’t think it’s productive.” David Hogg was one of multiple Parkland shooting survivors who gave a speech at the March For Our Lives protest. Millions came out in support of gun control in an effort to prevent more terrible mass shootings. The Onion titled one of their satirical articles: “Teens Spend Wild Spring Break in D.C. Begging Lawmakers for Their Lives,” which is … pretty accurate, unfortunately. At the protest, David Hogg spoke up, saying: “When politicians send their thoughts and prayers with no action, we say, ‘No more.'” He continues, issuing a warning to politicians who continue to drag their feet against the growing demands for gun control. “And to those politicians supported by the NRA, that allow the continued slaughter of our children and our future, I say, get your resumes ready.” Like many 17-year-olds, Hogg will soon be able to vote. David Hogg, seen here with fellow survivor Emma Gonzalez, was not on The View to defend his words to Meghan McCain. But Whoopi Goldberg spoke up in his defense. “Well, here’s the thing. These kids are not going to take it.” People who have heard their friends die aren't going to mince words when they appeal for sensible regulations that have been proven to prevent mass shootings in other Western nations. “They are sick of waiting for the adults to do it. They are letting you know.” And Whoopi points out that his language choice is really not a problem. “Whether they’re cussing you out or speaking beautifully. It doesn’t matter.” Viewers of The View spoke up on Twitter in opposition to Meghan McCain's words. “Come on. These kids want to go to school and have a decent chance to grow up. They're scared. Do something to help instead of crticize.” “Oh please! Get your priorities straight. Some people only listen when you shock the hell out of them. This fine young man is PASSIONATE. Kids have been blown away & gunned down. You need to focus on the issue. Stop distracting the good these kids R doing.” “Once again @ MeghanMcCain misses the point. The words of @ davidhogg111 aren’t effective because he cursed? The boy watched his friends die and he’s not allowed to swear? Please.” “You're wrong Meghan. Own it.” We mentioned that Meghan's comment about language would come back to bite her. Her own profile includes the tag “F–kCancer,” a reference to her father's current health battle. Tweeters did point out that if she feels that “bad” words are acceptable for a cause about which she feels passionate, she shouldn't hold David Hogg to different standards. We will say, to be fair, that Meghan McCain wasn't necessarily as focused on David Hogg's use of “bad” words as many have assumed. It sounds like she felt that his rhetoric wasn't really designed to change any hearts and minds. And she's right. Hogg's speech was designed to inspire people who are already big believers in gun control. He wants them to vote out politicians who won't budge over guns. Meghan is a conservative, but she's a moderate conservative, and she and many who feel as she does feel like changing people's minds should be the goal of speeches like that. Others — perhaps Hogg included — might counter that anyone who is still opposed to gun control after countless mass shootings, including the one in Parkland, is probably not going to be swayed by Hogg's words or by anyone else's. Here are her comments:

‘RHOAS10’ Recap: There’s No Love Lost Between Nene And Kandi

Source: Randy Shropshire / Getty Kenya Moore returns in tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta , but first, we start with Porsha and Ricky Smiley. The two of them are spending quality time together at a skating rink and teasing us with this whole should they be a couple or should they not-thing. They have amazing chemistry, and they’ve talked about this before, but they claim they just keep it cute and friendly… For now. They claim they don’t want to take their relationship to the next level because they work together and that could get messy. via GIPHY But with all the camera time they keep getting together, they could be headed in that direction. Todd and Kandi address their thoughts on Uber-gate. In case you didn’t know, Nene was kicked of the Xscape tour after telling a heckler that she hopes they get raped by their Uber driver. Nene was devastated that she said what she said (because she is a survivor herself), and about the repercussions, but she wasn’t thinking about what she was saying in the moment because she was annoyed. Nene seems apologetic and definitely had a lot of tearful moments all up and through social media, and even on this show. Kandi and Todd say they aren’t even mad at Nene because comedians often say controversial things and Todd even brought up a good point, which is that the president says way worse. Kandi said she would have kept Nene on board.  However, it was the business manager in that situation who made the call because…money moves. Investors call the shots. There was no love lost between Kandi and Nene, though. Nene says this was a lesson learned about how hard comedy can be, especially when it comes to dealing with hecklers, and she’s even going to mentor her youngest son, who expressed interest in becoming a comedian too. Finally, remember the PSA that Kenya and crew shot for domestic violence? Welp, Kenya got enough footage to make it a 30-minute special so she decided to have an event to show the PSA and she’s inviting domestic abuse survivors to view the video, but to also get a day of pampering beforehand. Now we’re at Kenya’s PSA debut event. The gang’s all present, and then… Drum roll, please. Kenya’s husband, Marc Daly surprises her. He is real and spectacular, but you know she still got the side eye from some people in the crew. Sheree, of all people, had the nerve to make a comment that Marc having a nose ring was dainty. Meanwhile, the fact that she has a #prisonbae leaves her wide open for jokes and commentary, but whatever. via GIPHY But Nene actually had something nice to say. She said that Kenya seems like she’s really in love. So it wasn’t all shady. And that’s a wrap for tonight’s episode. Hopefully, next week’s season finale will a bit more gusto. #MarchForOurLives: Students And Activists All Around The World Gather For Some Gotdamn Gun Reform

Image via John Lamparski/ALEX EDELMAN/AFP/Alex Wong/Getty The March For Our Lives Today is the day, a historic day, the March For Our Lives . Today hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of students and activists descend upon Washington, D.C. and literally all around the world to raise their voices against the ineptitude of the federal government to construct sensible gun control reform. They don’t want to die anymore. They don’t want to lose their friends, classmates, sons, daughters, cousins, aunts, uncles, or anyone else who has lost their life to a crazed school shooter carrying a fully automatic AR-15 assault rifle. Justin Cooper is the chaperone to 250 students traveling from Pittsburgh, he spoke to CNN about strength of this youth-lead campaign: “Our youth are being confronted with these shootings and all the violence, and I think they’re looking at it and saying most people support some kind of change … but yet our laws don’t quite seems to be working with the people,” Cooper said. “So the youth of this country said, ‘Enough is enough.’ The kids are running all this.” The student survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida will be front-and-center in D.C. as well as back at a sister rally that is being held at the school. “They don’t know what it’s like to be 20 feet from an AR-15,” Parkland survivor Alfonso Calderon, 16, told students at a Washington charter school this week, referring to US lawmakers… “Every single day you wake up and it might be a thought in your head, ‘I might die today,’ ” Calderon told the students. We have a feeling that when its all said and done today there will be MILLIONS who take the streets in protest. You can watch a live stream of the D.C. march below. Despite the criticism of children these days, they are really the future. This march is evidence that they’ve been taught well. They are leading the way. Continue reading

Catelynn Lowell: Roots of PTSD Finally Revealed?

In the past two years, Catelynn Lowell has checked into rehab three times. While her journey toward greater emotional stability and mental health certainly hasn’t been an easy one, it’s yielded trendous results, making Lowell both a more fulfilled person and a spokesperson for those battling mental illness. Earlier this week, Lowell revealed that she’s been diagnosed with PTSD . “It’s panic disorder, PTSD – I like to call myself a trauma survivor – and it’s depression, but it’s co-occurring depression or something like that,” Lowell revealed in a candid interview. “It will go away and it will come back with the panic disorder.” Catelynn didn’t go into detail regarding the roots of her trauma, but in the past, she’s spoken at length about her difficult childhood. Lowell’s father, David, helped shed new light on her painful past this week in a revealing interview with Radar Online: “I don’t do drugs or drink so mostly it was when we had to move for my job when she was 12,” David told the site about the painful period during which he and his daughter were separated by distance. “Kids don’t realize that parents have to do whatever it takes to pay support and insurance for their children, even if it means moving to do so.” David added that his children were well cared-for financially, but said they may not have always received the emotional support they needed:  “I was never a deadbeat dad. One thing I’ve always done is take care of my kids,” he claimed. “That we both had a hard time dealing with. But we called frequently.” David went on to reveal that he suspects Catelynn’s mother didn’t always provide a stable home life: “What her mother did with the money – many different boyfriends and moving all the time – I couldn’t say  As for how Catelynn is faring following her latest rehab stint, David his daughter is in a “wonderful” state of mind. “She’s doing her aftercare like a champ,” he tells Radar. “I did go with her to a holistic approach therapist. I believe this is the first time she’s tried it. It involves breathing techniques, aromatics, and of course, talking.” Closing on a hopeful night, David adds: “I think she’s won the battle, but staying humble about it. It’s a lifelong affliction.” Watch Teen Mom OG online for more of Catelynn’s courageous struggle. View Slideshow: Catelynn Lowell Checks into Rehab AGAIN: What Happened?!
