Swizz Beatz Promises ‘Art Piece’ Video For Bono, Kanye West Collabo

Swizz says Kanye originally recorded three verses for ‘Skyscrapers’ track, leaving no room for his own contribution to the song. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum Swizz Beatz Photo: MTV News Swizz Beatz has friends in high places. For his upcoming Haute Living album, the multiplatinum producer reached out to U2’s Bono and Kanye West to lend their touch to a track called “Skyscrapers.” The thought of the three stars on a single track is enough to excite any music fan, but Swizz told MTV News how the song almost became a Kanye West solo affair. Swizz played the track for ‘Ye, whom he considers a brother, and got verbal confirmation from the Louis Vuitton Don that he would appear on the song. But after Kanye laid down his vocals and sent the track back, Swizz found that Yeezy had completed the entire song himself. “He gives me the track back, done, three verses, the chorus there and a bridge. So I’m like, there ain’t no room for me on that thing!” Swizz says laughing. “I’m like, ‘Not on this one, baby.’ So I got two extra verses in the stash.” As of now, there is no telling where those extra Kanye vocals will end up, but fans can expect to hear “Skyscrapers” and see a video for the track soon — even if the three featured artists don’t appear in the clip. Judging by Swizzy’s description of both the track and the video, fans should get ready for a thought-provoking experience. “I felt like there was a lot of things going on in the world that was bigger than all of us. So as of right now, we’re not in the video,” Swizz says of the song’s visuals, which he has already begun working on. “It’s like an art piece. It’s like a documentary of the world as we don’t know it, but kind of know it. You know these things are going on in the world, but you don’t really know to what degree they’re going on in the world. So I took time out to piece up a couple of visuals that represent that — moving visuals. Right now, me, Bono, Kanye, we’re trying to figure out what’s the right way to have that message.” Swizz warns that since the video is still in development, things can change between now and the release. Are you looking forward to hearing Swizz’s collaboration with Bono and Kanye? Let us know in the comments.

While sitting in on CNN’s “State of the Union” this morning, New York’s Senator Chuck Schumer was ringing alarm bells on what he perceives as a GOP threat to shut down the government this Spring during the upcoming Debt Ceiling debate and the Congressional battle over various elements of government funding. This tactic was nothing new as both sides traditionally use extreme examples to make their point…. Swizz Beatz Says Jay-Z And Kanye West’s ‘H.A.M.’ Is ‘Super Positive’

‘I think that if more of the industry did moves like this it would be a better place for everybody,’ producer tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Swizz Beatz Photo: MTV News When Kanye West and Jay-Z dished out “H.A.M.”, the first official single from their forthcoming joint album Watch the Throne, it was a colossal hip-hop moment. Two of the rap’s reigning mic-rippers tag-teaming on a track heaping with bravado-laden lyricism over producer Lex Luger’s incessant, piercing drums is a major way to star to start the hip-hop conversation in 2011. Swizz Beatz, who’s crafted multiple records with both MCs, told MTV News on Wednesday (January 12) that Yeezy and Hov’s collaborative effort could be taken as a blueprint for how to push the hip-hop game further. “I think that those being both of my friends, and knowing that people can team up on such a high caliber level — as musicians, as rappers, as friends, as peers — I think it’s super-positive, and I think that if more of the industry did moves like this it would be a better place for everybody,” Swizz said. The Monster Mondays songsmith has been in the lab with the hip-hop titans as they craft Throne, and added that the tracks that in the works definitely game-changing potential. “I’m involved a little bit on the album, and just hearing the different songs it’s like ‘Wow, they’re really taking it to another level.’ I’m happy to be a part of it, those are my brothers and [they’re] going to continue pushing the envelope,” he said. Swizz also insisted Jay and ‘Ye are “definitely coming with the monsters,” and that “H.A.M.” will be followed up by tracks that are “just gonna keep getting better.” However, the prolific producer mused that the two MCs don’t have an specific agenda for Throne’s chart performance — since they’ve both got boatloads of accolades, fame and radio hits to their names — but are rather hitting the studio to create the tracks they feel like making. “I think they’re just doing them. I don’t think artists nowadays are paying attention to any like, particular formats. Because the industry is not what it used to be — you can’t predict a Top 40 record or a #1 Urban record. You just gotta just do what you feel is hot. It’s just like you feel like you don’t want to rap no more [or] you wanna keep going past the hook, just keep going past the hook. That makes it real hip-hop.” he said. “People don’t understand that hip-hop got started from being rebellious to any rules. Hip-hop has no rules, and the only reason hip-hop started getting rules [was] because of radio airplay, sales, different spins and trying to reach out to another audience. But Jay and Kanye got the audience already so they can do what they want to do, and I think that’s what they doing, which is a great move.” Like his homies, Swizz is also making some high-profile joint moves, collaborating with Reebok and luxury car maker Aston Martin. The producer/rapper has also been tinkering on his next solo effort, titled Haute Living, which he said will be a creative departure from his previous work. “I think people are not gonna expect what they’re gonna hear on my album. I’m very hard on myself with the album because it’s like putting on another hat and it’s opening up the door for a lot of criticism,” he said of heading back to the mic for the follow-up to 2007’s One Man Band Man. Ultimately, he shrugged off any possible Haute hate, and maintained that, like Jay and Kanye, he’s in it to make music and have a good time. “Doing this album I said, ‘Look, I’m not trying to be the best rapper in the world, I’m not trying to do none of that. I’m just trying to have fun and treat it as [an] art project where I’m expressing myself.’ ” While he may be prioritizing creativity over commercial viability, Swizz hasn’t been slacking on securing a diverse lineup of A-list features that includes a rock star, a Rebirth rapper and R&B royalty. “I have amazing collaborations on the album from Lenny Kravitz, Wayne, my sister Mary [J. Blige], Maxwell is on the album,” he said. “I don’t want to give it all away but I’m trying to come with something … that’s just gonna like blow people’s minds away. They gonna be like, ‘Wow.’ ” Do you agree with Swizz’ thoughts about Jay and Kanye’s “H.A.M.” record? Let us know in the comments! Swizz Beatz On Joining Jay-Z Onstage At Yankee Stadium

‘Just think about it. They hit home runs in there,’ Swizz says of performing in his hometown arena. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Swizz Beatz Photo: MTV News Last night, Swizz Beatz celebrated his birthday in one of the best ways you could think of. The Bronx native was a surprise guest of Jay-Z onstage at Yankee Stadium for the New York kickoff of the Jay-Z/Eminem Home and Home concerts, hot off the VMA stage, where he performed with Drake on Sunday night. “Being onstage with Jay is funny sometimes because he’s so cool and laid-back. I’m like the opposite, which makes it the perfect balance,” Swizz told us recently about performing with the Jiggaman. “Sometimes when I perform ‘On to the Next One,’ I’ll look at him and be like, ‘Let me calm my ass down a little bit.’ The energy, I’m just attracted to the people. It’s an honor when Jay introduced me and we’re able to rock the same stage back from ‘Jigga’ and we’re still able to make classics together and still able to be cool and still share the same stage. It’s a blessing.” When asked about actually being able to rock Yankee Stadium, the super-producer smiled and reflected. “Yankee Stadium. Ooo weee,” he beamed. “Just think about it. They hit home runs in there. It’s filled up like that. That’s bigger than the Garden.” Swizz is already getting prepared with tracks if Em and Jay should want to take their live collaboration into the studio. “That’s like the real best of both worlds,” Swizz declared. “I think [the two of the them having concerts together], that’s genius. Could this become an album? You see how I been thinking about that? Laying that out real quick.” The Jay-Eminem concerts in Detroit and New York, Swizz assessed, are a sign of the times. “The industry has no choice but to get together,” Beatz remarked. “It’s so crucial the decision that us as producers, as artists, as friends make. As you can see, the industry is on thin ice and it’s too many people standing on it. There’s no support. Where’s the all the support that used to be in our industry? It’s not there. The dollars are cut down. The digital world has scared the majors off from doing the correct deals. Now they introduced the 360 deals, where it’s totally chaos to me. Artists have to be creative like that now. Before you didn’t even have to think about teaming up. You’d be, like, right on your own playing field and that person would be the competition. And your job would be to destroy that person.” Do you think Jay-Z and Eminem should record an album together? Let us know in the comments.
