Taylor Kitsch Teases ‘John Carter Of Mars’ Trailer

‘I saw the official trailer hours ago. [I’m] over the moon,’ ‘Friday Night Lights’ actor says. By Kara Warner Taylor Kitsch Photo: MTV News Although the release date for the highly anticipated “John Carter of Mars” is still a ways away (March 9, 2012, to be exact), we might be close to seeing an official trailer very soon. When MTV News caught up with star Taylor Kitsch yesterday during the press day for his upcoming drama “The Bang Bang Club,” we were pleasantly surprised to learn he had just seen the trailer. “We’re doing some fun little pickups right now,” Kitsch said. “I saw the official trailer hours ago. [I’m] over the moon,” he revealed. “We are just … it’s a special film. It’s going to be a good ride. I’m pumped!” Although he couldn’t go into specifics, Kitsch teased that when fans do see the trailer, they might have a hard time figuring out exactly what they’re seeing. “Man, I would love to get going and tell you everything about it,” he said. “All I’ll say is, good luck piecing it together. You’re going to be like, ‘How the f— does this all fit together?’ ” “And there’s a lot of heart in it too, to say the least,” he added. “Yeah, I’m excited about it.” The “Friday Night Lights” actor’s comments about the unique look of the film mirrored those of director Andrew Stanton , who told us that his take on the story, which is based on a series of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels about a Civil War veteran who becomes a great hero on Mars, will not look like anything we’ve seen before. “I didn’t try to make it look like anything else,” the Oscar winner told us back in January. “I really tried to make it its own thing. I tried to make a very historically accurate Martian film, if that makes sense,” he said. “So I’ll let you decipher that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “John Carter of Mars.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

John Mayer Quits Twitter

He had amassed more than 3.7 million followers on the site. By Kelley L. Carter John Mayer Photo: Mat Szwajkos/ Getty Images John Mayer is losing a lot of friends. A spokesperson for the singer said Mayer has shut down his Twitter account now that he’s done with his Battle Studies Tour. He continues to communicate with his fans via his blog , the rep said. The singer had amassed more than 3.7 million followers on Twitter. His exit from the micro-blogging site comes months after he dealt with a bit of controversy. Back in February, Mayer had an interview with Playboy in which he talked about intimate relations with former girlfriend Jessica Simpson and used the N-word. The whole issue became a hot Twitter topic, and Mayer tweeted an apology to his followers: “Re: using the ‘N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged. “And while I’m using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it’s time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews. … It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it’s gotten out of hand and I’ve created somewhat of a monster.” He also tweeted: ” I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don’t have the stomach for it. Again, because I don’t want anyone to think I’m equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again.” Will you miss John Mayer on Twitter? Let us know in the comments. Battleship Sunk in Australia?

Not so fast, Tom Arnold! The actor bragged in our comments section that he’d be heading to Australia in August for Peter Berg’s Battleship , but the film isn’t actually shooting there. “Universal Pictures has decided not to shoot its U$150m movie adaptation of the Hasbro board game Battleship in Queensland, taking production to the US state of Louisiana instead,” reported Encore . “It is the second high budget project that Australia loses to Louisiana, following last year’s Warner production Green Lantern , which was set to shoot in Sydney.” Maybe it was all an elaborate hazing devised by Taylor Kitsch? For Tom’s sake, we hope that ticket’s refundable. [ Encore ]

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Arnold Boarding Peter Berg’s Battleship

Tom Arnold is best known in the feature film world for supplying the comic relief in True Lies (I’d also recommend his nice-guy act in the Don Roos film Happy Endings ), and though True Lies 2 definitely isn’t on the docket , Arnold may have a chance to fulfill that very necessary action movie archetype once more. Movieline hears that Arnold is the second cast member confirmed for Peter Berg’s board game adaptation Battleship , joining lead Taylor Kitsch . How do we know? The pissed-off actor told us himself!
