The entire World Wide Web is stanning Ellen Pompeo right now over her comments about diversity and inclusion in Hollywood. During a panel discussion for NET-A-PORTER’s “The Big Television Debate”, the Grey’s Anatomy star sat down with Gabrielle Union , Gina Rodriguez , Emma Roberts and revealed that she has no problem calling out the lack of color/ diversity wherever she is — including the NET-A-PORTER set where the panel was conducted. “This day has been incredible, and there’s a ton of women in the room, but, I don’t see enough color. And I didn’t see enough color when I walked in the room today.” As she continued on, Ellen got emotional when speaking on how Caucasian folks can be better allies. “As Caucasian people, it’s our job. It’s our task, it’s our responsibility to make sure we speak up in every single room we walk into. It’s our job because we created the problem.” Shout out to Ellen P. for keeping it G. Chip and Joanna Gaines are about to take a new step in their professional lives. And it’s a significant one. The former HGTV stars announced on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Friday that they will soon make their long-awaited return to television. In what context? In what way? The beloved couple remained mostly mum on the subject while chatting with the comedian last night. “We signed a non-disclosure and it said quote unquote you can tell your mother but that’s it,” Chip joked on air, adding: “So mom, I just wanted to make a quick announcement, we are coming back to television. “You are going to get to see the kids grow up, you are going to see us, well maybe a six-month delay like the rest of the world, but we are excited to be back.” Just over a year ago, Chip and Joanna announced that would be leaving Fixer Upper after five seasons . Since then, the home renovation experts have been rather busy in their own home, having welcomed their fifth child in late June. However, Magnolia spokesman John Marsicano talked to People Magazine and offered a lot more detail on what the future holds for his co-workers: “We’re excited to share that we are currently in the early stages of talking with Discovery about a lifestyle-focused media network for Magnolia. “The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique, inspiring and family-friendly content.” Speaking to Fallon, Chip did add the following: “I think we’re really going to carve it out in a way that really makes sense to us and our families. “It’ll be filmed a lot in Waco, Texas, so we don’t have to travel a whole lot. All things being equal, we could not be more excited.” Chip and Joanna hosted the top-rated show on HGTV prior to leaving the small screen. Fans fell in love with how they remade various homes, but also with how they joked around and interacted with each other. The upcoming new network will be the latest addition to Chip and Joanna’s gigantic list of successful businesses. This includes their lifestyle magazine The Magnolia Journal, the new Magnolia Table restaurant and the couple’s product line at Target. Despite bidding farewell to Fixer Upper in April, Chip and Joanna have remained very active in the business world. “The show was amazing and we are so thankful for it, but it’s also a whirlwind where, if you are not careful, it will flat run you over,” Chip told People in October. Donald Trump just ruined Game of Thrones. No, the President didn’t reveal any final season spoilers, although we’re pretty sure he wouldn’t hesitate to do so if it somehow meant Republicans would keep the House on Tuesday. But he did go ahead and use the show’s iconic tagline on Twitter today, making sure no one can ever think of it again without also thinking of our racist Commander-in-Chief. Here’s what we’re talking about: Game of Thrones arrived on the television scene in the summer of 2011 by warning its viewers that “Winter is Coming.” This was a nod to the dangerous White Walkers and how they would eventually breach The Wall and kill pretty much every human alive. (Don’t ask. Just Google or, better yet, go catch up Game of Thrones before it returns in mid-2019 at some point. The show is really good.) No three words are more associated with the most popular show of its era than these three. Winter is Coming . So… what did Trump just write on Twitter? In the legendary font of the iconic HBO drama? Sanctions are Coming . Most folks clued in to the political arena think this is a reference to sanctions against Iraq. And while many experts on the topic seem to believe this is a terrible idea, we’re not here to get into a complicated political debate. (Except to say that maybe the President of the United States should not treat such a significant idea/step as a game or a joke.) We are here, however, to simply say: Come on, Mr. President! To paraphrase critics of athletes who bring up social issues, can’t you stick to politics? HBO agrees with this assessment. The network has issued a brief statement in response to Trump’s use of its show’s tagline and font. It reads: We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes. It has also Tweeted, hilariously, “How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?” And star Maisie Williams, who plays wildly popular character Arya, also expressed her disdain on social media: Game of Thrones Season 8 will be comprised of just six episodes. However, each will be movie-length, around 90 minutes if not more, many sources have confirmed. But that isn’t the point right now. The point is that Trump has already made it difficult to enjoy professional football and Twitter and ensured that we’ll never refer to our soccer game carpools as “caravans” ever again. It is part of a brilliant op-ed piece that illustrates, with humor, how harmful and dangerous the action is to people of color. From the Times : In this satirical infomercial, the comedian and actress Niecy Nash plays the inventor of a new hotline, 1-844-WYT-FEAR. The video advertises a phone service for white people to call when they can’t cope with black people living their lives near them. The hotline is up and running, so give it a ring and spread the word. (Seriously.) The phenomenon of white people harassing African-Americans going about their day is nothing new, but with the ubiquity of smartphones and social media, everyone can now see how these injustices are played out and lead to anxiety for and material harm to people of color. Newly widowed, taking care of her teenage daughter and ailing mother (Telma Hopkins), Brenda is the sole beneficiary of her husband’s assets, which include millions of dollars, property, and most importantly, a secret file that she has yet to discover. Brenda finds out from her husband’s closest friend, Cain (RonReaco Lee) that the file is hidden inside their home, so they think, when they are all taken hostage at Brenda’s Summer home by two masked men, who are now threatening to kill them all one by one if they don’t turn over the file. Having no answers, Brenda, her daughter, mother and Cain are tied up and held hostage until these masked men get what they want. With time running out, Brenda has to do whatever she can to ensure her family’s survival and fight for their lives. The film premieres on BET on Nov. 17 and then goes to digital/VOD on Nov. 19.
