On The Come Up: President Obama’s Approval Rating Is Finally Back Up Above 50%

Woopty-woop woopty-woop-woop!! President Barack Obama’s approval rating is back to 50% for the first time in more than eight months, and he currently holds an edge against all the remaining Republican presidential candidates in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups, according to a new national survey. And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Wednesday also indicates that the GOP’s advantage on enthusiasm has been erased, and that the number of Americans who think things are going well in the country is on the rise. Six out of ten say things are going poorly in the country, but four out of ten say things are going well, up 15 points since November. “Does that mean it’s morning in America? It is for Democrats – a solid majority of them now say things are going well in the country. But overall, six in ten still have a gloomy outlook about the state of the country,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Optimism is on the rise among independent voters, with a notable increase among men as well, although a majority of both groups still think things are going poorly.” The rise of Americans who say things are going well appears to be helping the president, whose approval rating now stands at 50%, with 48% saying they disapprove of the job Obama’s doing in the White House. The president’s approval rating has edged up three points from last month and is up six points from November. The last time Obama’s approval rating was at 50% or above was last May, as a result of the killing of Osama bin Laden, and it stayed there for about a month before fading. “Independents now have a net-positive view of President Obama,” says Holland. “His approval rating has also reached 50% in the suburbs.” This is bodes well for the POTUS chances of re-election Looking ahead to November, the poll indicates that the president’s re-election chances are on the rise. In hypothetical matchups among registered voters, Obama holds a 51 margin over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, leads both former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas by the same 52 advantage, and beats former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 55. The Obama-nator is lookin’ good, but there is still a long road ahead… Source More On Bossip! ‘American Idol’ Hollywood Week Gets Off To A Cutthroat Start

Jane Carrey and Ramiro Garcia were among the 68 contestants sent home at the end of day one. By Adam Graham Jennifer Lopez in “American Idol” Photo: Fox When it comes to “American Idol,” everyone wants to go to Hollywood. But the euphoria from that Golden Ticket doesn’t last long for contestants, as the slash-and-burn process of the notoriously cutthroat Hollywood Week takes hold. This year, 309 contestants made it through to Hollywood, and the whittling-down process started immediately. Wednesday’s (February 8) “Idol” focused on the beginning of Hollywood Week, when 68 contestants were shown the door by the end of day one. Among those going home was Jane Carrey, daughter of actor Jim Carrey, who failed to make much of an impression with her timid take on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.” Because of her family ties, Carrey was one of the most noteworthy contestants from the audition episodes, but the 24-year-old didn’t make it far before feeling the wrath of Hollywood Week. Also cut was 28-year-old Ramiro Garcia, who was born without ears and whose version of “Amazing Grace” was a standout in the Galveston, Texas, auditions. He was dismissed along with 18-year-old Travis Orlando, the Bronx native who was cut at the same point in Hollywood Week a year ago. Standouts in Wednesday’s episode included 23-year-old Johnny Keyser of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who had Randy Jackson shouting, “Amen! Amen! Amen!” after his version of Amos Lee’s “Dreamin’ “; ladies man David Leathers Jr., the 17-year-old from Fayetteville, North Carolina, who doesn’t look a day over 12 but had the judges and his peers alike applauding his impressive version of Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”; Lauren Gray, the 23-year-old star of the St. Louis auditions who brought the house down with her version of Adele’s “One and Only”; the unforgettably named Phillip Phillips, the 21-year-old who busted out “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” and moved one step closer to immortality; and 26-year-old Jessica Phillips — no relation to Phillip, at least as far as we know — who had the gall to do Whitney Houston’s “All the Man That I Need” and pulled it off admirably. Other singers advancing included 22-year-old Heejun Han, who made up for the lack of confidence in his looks with his strong vocals on Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You”; 16-year-old Shannon Magrane of Tampa, Florida, daughter of former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane, whom Steven Tyler awkwardly dubbed “hot, humid and happening” during her initial audition; and 26-year-old Reed Grimm of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, who’s been performing on stage all his life and showed it with a campy version of “I Got a Golden Ticket” from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The episode ended with a cliffhanger after 16-year-old Symone Black of Rancho Cucamonga, California, got woozy and took a scary spill off the front of the stage following her rendition of Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Hollywood Week has enough drama without people collapsing off the stage, but “Idol” is making us tune in Thursday to find out what happens to Black and see if she makes it to the utterly ruthlessness known as Group Round. Very Much Alive Eddie Murphy Dies on Twitter (Again)

The current Twitter trend ” RIP Eddie Murphy ” has gripped the unwashed microblogging masses with equal parts earnest apoplexy (“Idiots on twitter, why would anyone want to trend something like that”) and predictable cheap-shottery (“Hey Eddie: ‘RIP Eddie Murphy’ is God trying to tell you something about your career.”) — not that unlike the last time Murphy “died” on Twitter . The most we can take away from this experience? People are very eager to paint Twitter itself — what with its frequent death hoaxes and other misinformation — as the worst mass killer since… well, you name it: WTF Is RIP Eddie Murphy Trending,He didnt pass away, twitter is killing people more than Jason Voorhees — It’s Shadoe Bitch (@MeganFoxFanNYC) February 3, 2012 RIP Eddie Murphy, god twitter kills more people than Rebecca Black’s Friday! #JustSayin — Michael Booth (@M__Booth) February 3, 2012 RIP Eddie Murphy? Spencer Pratt Apology to Lauren Conrad Goes Ignored on Twitter

What is this, 2009? Spencer Pratt tried to make amends with Lauren Conrad on her 26th birthday via Twitter Wednesday, but the fashion designer and former Hills star isn’t listening. “Lauren has moved past all the drama,” a source close to LC says. “She’s focusing on her career and barely has time to interact with the people she actually likes.” “Why would she want to back in touch with Spencer Pratt ?” A fair point. Why would anyone really? The source close to Conrad adds that “in this case, like others, she’s going to continue to do what works best with Spencer and that’s obviously to ignore him.” The world has apparently followed suit in the past year and a half. Pratt, meanwhile, is broke and living at home , but says he doesn’t “have a hatchet to bury” with his former co-star, who he frequently butted heads with. “We had our differences, but the fact is that Lauren was a part of our lives, both personally and professionally,” Spencer Pratt tells Us , as if anyone cares. “After all this time, what point would there be in being angry? All I wanted to do was wish her nothing but the best in everything she does.” Sadly, that totally heartfelt sentiment fell upon a deaf Twitter account. [Photos: WENN.com]

Ron Paul: "Zero Chance" of Dropping Out of Presidential Race

Campaigning in Nevada in advance of tomorrow’s Republican presidential caucus, Ron Paul talked to CNN’s Joe Johns about his prospects in the Silver State and beyond. Paul said the caucus format works to his advantage because it rewards organization and enthusiasm, rather than strictly money, which gives Mitt Romney a huge edge. The Texas Congressman, whose financial situation is still better than most, lamented that his resources limited any chance against Romney in a big state like Florida. How well he’ll do in Nevada remains to be seen, but Paul says he will continue his goal of accumulating delegates and that there is “zero chance” of him dropping out.
