Flag Day vs. Bourbon Day: Which Would You Rather …

Today, Friday the 14th of June, is Lucy Hale and Donald Trump’s birthday . It also happens to be Flag Day and Bourbon Day, too. U-S-A! U-S-A! Often overlooked, Flag Day is kind of like the awkward little brother of July 4, but regardless, today marks the anniversary of Old Glory itself! On this date in 1775, the Continental Congress adopted a rag-tag band of men and boys who had started shooting at the British. The U.S. Army was born. Exactly two years later, on June 14, 1777, the Stars and Stripes debuted! The design of the flag is recognized as a symbol of the people: the red and white stripes represent the original 13 colonies, with a star for each new state. Initially, there were only 13 stars as well, but that quickly changed. Fundamentally then, and continuing to this day, the flag represents the unity of the people from every corner of the U.S. in their genuine desire for freedom. As for Bourbon Day, that commemoration is slightly newer. It’s not just because people enjoy drinking the smooth, Southern-bred product, nor totally out of place alongside Flag Day as a national event, however. More than any other spirit, bourbon is an all-American drink. Congress itself staked national claim to it in 1964 as a “distinctive product of the United States.” In recent years, the market for bourbon has surged (thank you Mad Men ) with the popularity of both single-barrel and small batch bourbon rising. So, let’s raise a glass (and a flag) to both of these occasions! And tell us: Which of the two would you rather … celebrate?   Flag Day! Bourbon Day! View Poll »

Giuliana and Bill Rancic: Already Planning Another Baby?

Are Giuliana and Bill Rancic planning another baby already? That’s the implication of the ” celebrity news ” tabloid below: Giuliana and Bill Rancic recently welcomed son Edward Duke, who was born via surrogate, after years of trying to conceive and encountering one setback after another. While it’s not unrealistic that the family-oriented duo would be “planning” another child, just how actively and specifically they’re doing so is subject to debate. More than likely, Life & Style is talking out of its … you know. The magazine also suggests that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel married in secret … days before they actually did marry in secret. So they got lucky there. Jack Osbourne and Lisa Stelly got hitched, too. That’s true. Lauren Conrad is not engaged, though. Come on people.

Happy 32nd, Birthday, Kim Kardashian!

Kim Kardashian, THG’s favorite celebrity/arch nemesis, turns 32 years old today. The talent-free reality star has been in the news lately for pretending to date Kanye West and for posing in a bikini . She’s also been busy paying her intern to post updates on Facebook and Twitter. Kardashian at least deserves credit for mastering the celebrity gossip game, having learned how little it takes in this day and age to be famous. For that, and on the anniversary of her birth, we salute Kim and we encourage readers to send in their best birthday wishes! Below, we honor the birthday gal with a montage of Kim Kardashian nude pics…

Doctor Who Movie To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Whovians, rejoice! A Doctor Who movie is in the works, reports the BBC, commissioned to celebrate the long-running sci-fi series in time for its 50th anniversary. Entitled An Adventure in Space and Time , the 90-minute drama will travel back through the decades to revisit the history of the beloved show and its creation in the early 1960s. “This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original,” said writer Mark Gatiss of the TV film, which is slated to arrive next year. Two Doctor Who movies were made in the ’60s — Doctor Who and the Daleks (1965) and Doctor Who: Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966) — while a few years back frequent Harry Potter helmer David Yates was developing his own take on the franchise intended for the big screen. This one-off 50th anniversary Doctor Who movie is more an ode to the franchise itself. “The story of Doctor Who is the story of television — so it’s fitting in the anniversary year that we make our most important journey back in time to see how the TARDIS was launched,” said series exec producer Steven Moffat. An air date has not been announced, but the very first episode of Doctor Who debuted on November 23, 1963 so I’d imagine we’re looking at a similar fall timeframe for the film’s debut. Set your TARDIS accordingly. [ BBC ]

That’s Not Chicken: Mike Tyson Describes The Taste Of Evander Holyfield’s Ear

The OTHER white meat… Mike Tyson Describes The Taste Of Evander Holyfield’s Ear This guy is the epitome of pure comedy . It’s been almost exactly fifteen years since the infamous rematch between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. The bout has become known for the crazy moment when Tyson bit off a chuk of Holyfield’s ear. It’s a moment Tyson has been asked about consistently since then, and his appearance on “Watch What Happens: Live” (Sun.-Thu., 11 p.m. ET on Bravo) proved no different. During host Andy Cohen’s “Plead the Fifth” segment, he was asked point-blank what human ear tasted like. Tyson is so used to the topic coming up by this point that he barely reacted at all. Instead, he quipped,”Depends on which ear that you bite.” Tyson ultimately admitted that it doesn’t taste too good, leading Cohen to crack a joke that it might have needed Holyfield’s Hot Sauce. “That would’ve been a delicacy,” Tyson agreed. Holyfield had cracked the joke about his new product on the anniversary of the infamous bout, Tweeting that his hot sauce “will make u wanna take a bite out of someone’s ear! Ask @MikeTyson – Luv ya bro!” Apparently when the checks stop coming in , it’s the laughs that bring in the money. Source
