Bored? Academy Launches Oscar Countdown

Leave it to AMPAS to supplement your winter workplace malaise with its new Oscar Countdown, a procrastination-friendly feature recounting all 82 Academy Award ceremonies — one day at a time until the 83rd annual ritual next February. Fun fact from the first show: “270 people attended the event, mostly Academy members. Guests of members were invited to attend at a slight charge of $5 to their hosts.” That would be $63.95 in 2010 dollars. What a deal, or something. [ Oscars.org ]

Katy Perry Joins ‘Glee’ Actor Darren Criss For ‘Teenage Dream’ Duet

Singer takes the stage with ‘Glee’ guest star at Trevor Project fundraiser Sunday night. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry and Darren Criss Photo: Angela Weiss/ Toby Canham/ Getty Images While Katy Perry and “Glee” guest star Darren Criss have both had chart success with Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” the two had yet to perform the track together. Criss originally performed the tune on the hit Fox show, while Perry released it earlier this year as the second single from her album of the same name. The two finally took the stage together for the first time at the Trevor LIVE annual fundraising event held at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday night. Criss, dressed in a suit, was performing the track with the show’s Dalton Academy Warblers, when Perry, dressed in a sequin dress, hit the stage to belt out the last bit of the tune. Footage of the performance hit the Net shortly after the event. Other performances for the night included a spoken-word number from Queen Latifah as well as the Hollywood Bowl cast of “Rent” singing “Seasons of Love” and “Will I.” Kathy Griffin was honored by “Glee” star Jane Lynch for donating her paycheck from an L.A.-area stand-up gig to the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. Some of the other names in attendance included Neil Patrick Harris, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Arquette, Sarah Silverman, Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Kate Walsh, Wayne Brady, Justin Long, Joe Manganiello, Kristin Davis, Brittany Snow, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Josh Duhamel, Anna Kendrick, James Marsden and Jessica Alba. “She’s been really sweet,” Criss said of Perry’s support after his “Teenage Dream” performance on “Glee.” ” … It’s a great tune. I really lucked out that I got to sing that song. I mean, you’ve gotta sing what they give you.” Whose version of “Teenage Dream” do you prefer: Katy’s or Darren’s? Or do you prefer their joint version? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Katy Perry

Demi Lovato Tour Dancer Demands Apology From Disney Star

Dancer Alex Welch threatens legal action stemming from altercation with Lovato. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato and Alex Welch Photo: Getty Images When news first broke that Demi Lovato had entered a treatment facility to deal with personal issues, it was reported that an altercation between Demi and a female dancer had been a factor in the Disney star’s decision to seek help. Now, dancer Alex Welch — who was on the road with Lovato and the Jonas Brothers — is speaking up about the incident, which reportedly took place in late October, just before Lovato announced she was leaving the JoBros’ tour. “To this day, I haven’t gotten an apology. I’ve heard nothing,” Welch told People magazine on Monday (December 6). “That’s sad if you think that person is your friend.” According to reports, Lovato was angry when she found out someone on the tour had told tour managers about her partying. Welch said the teen star “pulled the dancers in a room and threatened: ‘If I find out who told on me, ‘ ” adding that she was clueless about what Lovato was referring to. “I felt, honestly, I didn’t say anything and didn’t think twice about it,” Welch recalled. “We were on the plane with the Jonases having this awesome time, and I didn’t get a call or text from Demi or a ‘hey, you got a problem with me,’ nothing. And she walks up and punches me and, literally, walked away and got in her seat,” she continued. “No one should walk up and do that and brush it over, it’s not right.” TMZ posted photos of Welch with what looked like a black eye. The dancer said she’s looking at her legal options now. “We have contacted the Lovato camp and we are waiting for a response. If we don’t hear back, we will pursue litigation.” A rep for Demi confirmed that, saying, “We are in the process of engaging with Alex’s lawyer and hope to resolve this as quickly as possible.” The rep added, “Demi feels awful about what happened. Right now, she is 100 percent committed to her treatment.” What do you think of Alex Welch’s side of the story? Tell us in the comments. Katy Perry Gets Patriotic With ‘California Gurls,’ ‘Firework’ For ‘VH1 Divas’

The pop star traded whipped cream for stars and stripes as she saluted the troops. By Aly Semigran Katy Perry performs “Firework” during “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images It was that fitting Katy Perry did a live version her joyously inescapable summer smash “California Gurls” for the service men and women at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego for “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops,” and then closed the night out with “Firework.” Earlier in the show, Perry performed “California Gurls,” the song not only propelled her to the top of the charts in 2010 (it spent six consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100) and helped her snag one of her four Grammy nominations earlier this week (“Gurls” garnered Perry and her musical partner Snoop Dogg a nom for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals), but it’s an unconventional love letter to the very state where the show was taking place. (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops” .) The never-subtle singer left her whipped-cream-shooting bra at home (perhaps it’s not terribly useful in combat?) and arrived onstage via a stars-and-stripes parachute dressed head to toe in red, white, and blue attire. Perry’s onstage antics while performing “Gurls” on previous shows, like the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, have always been fitting of the bubblegum pop ditty, and her “Divas” set was no different. Snoop may have been regrettably MIA, but Perry had a set of scantily clad backup singers and dancers to help elevate her. Despite a slight crack in her voice during the song’s rising “Ohhh-oh-oh”s, “California Gurls” still got a warm reception and melted more than a few popsicles in San Diego. For Sunday’s show, Perry also found time to recall ’40s glam with Keri Hilson and Jennifer Nettles for a cover of “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and ’80s pop with Nicki Minaj for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” But that was hardly the end of Perry’s marathon evening, as the pop star did another, final outfit change to perform “Firework.” Looking rather Jessica Rabbit-esque in a bombshell-red, sparkly dress paired long red gloves, Perry tapped into the emotional tune, which took on a whole new meaning with this particular crowd. While the song is less an ode to patriotism as it is to individuality, lyrics like “Just own the night/ Like the 4th of July,” and “Come on, let your colors burst” turned out to be unexpectedly apropos of the event. The show-stopper felt even more patriotic when paired with the footage of, naturally, fireworks exploding in the background. Not one to fizzle out, Perry (who was once again joined by backup singers and dancers) eventually had onstage pyrotechnics and actual fireworks lighting up the night sky. “Firework” which currently resides at the #1 spot on digital download charts, also feels like Perry’s most personal single of her Teenage Dream album to date, something that was quite evident in her final, shining performance of the night. Snooki, The Situation ‘Excited’ And ‘Honored’ To Attend ‘VH1 Divas’

‘Anything to give back to veterans,’ Snooki says of attending star-studded troops tribute. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Matt Elias Snooki and “The Situation” at the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic When “Jersey Shore” mainstays Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino aren’t downing cocktails and getting rowdy in clubs on TV, they’re red-carpet regulars at shindigs across the globe. However, on Friday night the duo hit up a star-packed event that even humbled the cheeky “Shore” residents: “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops.” The “Shore” stars were in the building to present at the armed-forces tribute at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, and told reporters that they were thrilled to lend their support to the show. “I was actually honored to be here,” The Situation said. “I have so much respect for our troops. I heard that there was a possible invite, and it was an honor just to be here.” For Snooki, showing support for the troops is a cause close to her heart, as she has a family member who once served in the military. “I’m actually really excited to be here. The fact that I was even invited to come — that’s an honor. My uncle, he was a veteran and he died awhile ago,” Snooki said. “Anything to give back to veterans, anything. That’s really close to me. It’s awesome.” Supermodel Marisa Miller and soul songstress Brandy were also on hand to present at the event, which was hosted by flame-haired funnywoman Kathy Griffin. Pop and hip-hop vixens Katy Perry, Keri Hilson and Nicki Minaj rocked the stage. Music collectives Sugarland, Paramore and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals — who were joined by Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart — also churned out onstage awesomeness. “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” airs Sunday, December 5, on VH1 at 9 p.m. ET. Nicky Hilton in a Bikini of the Day

As much as I hate Paris Hilton for being useless fucking scum of the earth who had the opportunity to do anything in life, but instead chose to try to be famous and in the media for nothing, and as cheesy and obvious as I find her….I think Nicky Hilton is way worse. She is this weird, boring, latch on who attends all the events, who has a shitty body, and a face I just want to punch and not in a sexual way, becuase there’s just no substance to her….not that Paris has substance, other than a few substances used to manage her herpes, but at least there’s a personality and not just some sour faced cunt who is making me fucking sleepy. Either way, she was in a bikini and luckily, she was covering up… To See The Rest of the Pics – Follow This Link http://www.thesuperficial.com/nicky-hilton-in-a-bikini-and-other-news-12-2010

DJ Scoob Doo Taking Break From Lil Wayne To Travel To Africa

‘Nino Brown’ director tells Mixtape Daily he’ll shoot Wayne’s ‘Bill Gates’ video when he gets back. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: Leon Prime Celebrity Favorites: DJ Scoob Doo Scoob Doo might be best known for directing Lil Wayne music videos and as the man behind the “Nino Brown” DVD series featuring Tunechi, but the New Jersey native got his start behind the wheels of steel. Now, as a result of his growing popularity, Scoob’s taking his talents overseas. “I’m going to South Africa,” he told us over the phone on Tuesday. Scoob will be out there for the rest of the week and is scheduled to host and DJ a few parties while he’s in town. The breakthrough journey (he’s never visited the continent before) almost didn’t happen, though. Since Lil Wayne was sprung from Rikers Island last month, the MC has been back at work, recording music, shooting material for the next “Nino Brown” DVD and readying a video for the next track from I Am Not a Human Being. And that means Scoob has been busy documenting the process — around the clock. “We’ve been working nonstop on our personal endeavors and projects, and it’s a situation where it’s bigger than life right now as far as my work goes,” Scoob explained. “I was at a crossroads deciding if I was gonna go to Africa or was I gonna stay. So I had a conversation with Tunechi, and Tunechi understood that I’m going away for a couple of days, but when I get back we’re gonna be full up and running, picking up wherever we left off. And when I get back, just to put things in perspective, when I get back, we’re gonna shoot a professional video for ‘Bill Gates’ and it’s gonna be historic.” During his trip, Scoob plans turn the camera around on himself and shoot scenes from the events. “I always wanted to go and it’s one of those places you always wanna go,” he said. “But it’s so, and excuse my language, it’s so f—ing awesome that I get to go and I am getting paid to go and I’m doing what I love to do. So it’s like it’s a bonus. And I’m kind of scoping the scene ’cause a lot of people that I work with always wanted to go but were scared to take that trip. So I’m actually gonna scope it out and make sure that it’s good and everything. It’s going to be a frequent opportunity for all of my clients and partners as far as this business goes.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
