In the past few weeks, a lot has changed in the lives of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. First, Shelton and Miranda Lambert divorced after four years of marriage. Just a few weeks later, Stefani filed for divorce from Gavin Rossdale amidst rumors that she’d caught him cheating. Now, with the summer of splits coming to an end, the music superstars are back to the grind on the set of The Voice, and according to Radar Online, both Shelton and Stefani seem happier than ever . “This will be the best season yet!” says one insider. “Gwen is absolutely on fire right now and she is scoring some really huge talent because her energy is just off the charts. “She is using the show as a way to cope from with her divorce and everything going on around her because she said that she wants to become the ‘Gwen that she was’ prior to becoming a mother and housewife. “Gwen is very interactive with everyone on the staff of the show and they all love her. She treats the production assistants the same as her bosses and since her split, her whole outlook and demeanor has changed and she is a ball of light to be around.” The source says Stefani isn’t the only one who seems to be newly energized by the single life: “Blake has been happier than anyone has seen him be since he and Miranda broke up,” says the source. “Blake’s not only been flirtatious and really funny, but is he basically all, ‘Miranda who?’ now. He is now joking around about it and has been going out with people from production after work too.” Sounds like a fun season! Maybe all the judges should get divorced! Actually, if the rumors about Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo are true, we might not be too far off from that. The Voice returns to NBC on September 21. It looks like NBC has got Rihanna’s money. The network announced today that the superstar singer has joined Season 9 of The Voice. With Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams all on board as coaches this fall, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters today at the TCA Press Tour in Beverly Hills that Rihanna will serve as a “key advisor” to them all. It’s unclear what that means, but whatever. Rihanna will be a part of The Voice! “This is one of music’s true supervisors coming on board to influence the lives and careers of the performers,” Greenblatt said. Levine and Shelton, of course, have been with The Voice since it premiere in 2011. Williams is going into his third season, while Stefani joined back in season seven… though she took season eight off and Christina Aguilera jumped in to a red chair in her place. Aguilera is expected back on season 10, but no matter. Rihanna will have the sex appeal quotient covered until then!
Why do people who appear on reality TV shows (or talk shows, or court shows) often suffer severe and often long-lasting psychological trauma as a result?
Anthony Riley, a street performer from Philadelphia who competed in January on The Voice, was found dead yesterday of a suspected suicide. He was 28 years old. According to good family friend Tootsie Iovine, the aspiring artist was found in the basement of an apartment in downtown Philadelphia where he was living. Riley spent the last 10 years or so performing on the streets around Philadelphia’s Center City. He made his way into the spotlight early this year when he auditioned for NBC’s smash singing competition. Riley belted out a version of James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good)” for his blind audition… and, within mere moments, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams all turned around in their chairs. This made Rile the fastest contestant to ever be selected by the coaching quartet. Anthony Riley Blind Audition In the end, Riley selected Williams as his mentor and proceeded to win his first battle. Soon after, he told producers that he had been struggling with substance abuse issues and left the show to enter rehab back in Philly. We send his family and friends our thoughts and prayers. The Battle Rounds continued last night on NBC’s The Voice Season 8 Episode 7, with the coaches facing some difficult choices in terms of who to advance. Pharrell, in particular, seemed to agonize over one decision … Kimberly Nichole vs. Lowell Oakley (The Voice Battle Round) Kimberly Nichole vs. Lowell Oakley (Team Pharrell): Their duet on “Hound Dog” thoroughly flummoxed their coach, who took an eternity to declare a winner. Lowell was it. Somewhat surprisingly. Pharrell again crafted a terrific Battle Round performance, but one that assured he would cut loose a great talent. Luckily for the supremely strong Kimberly, she was stolen by Christina, who may have just landed one of the favorites to win this thing, by accident. Briar Jonnee vs. Caitlin Caporale (The Voice Battle Round) Briar Jonnee vs. Caitlin Caporale (Team Pharrell): This one wasn’t as challenging for their mentor. Both were good, but Caitlin was better. It showed. She won the battle, and no steal was used on Briar. Barry Minniefield vs. Jack Gregori (The Voice Battle Round) Barry Minniefield vs. Jack Gregori (Team Adam). Barry took this one rather easily (to us) and advanced to the Knockout Round with a victory over Jack. He’s “Feelin’ Alright” or better than alright after this effort. Katelyn Read vs. Treeva Gibson (The Voice Battle Round) Katelyn Read vs. Treeva Gibson (Team Christina): An unusual and slightly uneven but solid enough performance yielded a clear winner in Treeva. No steal was awarded to Katelyn, so she’s going home. Brenna Yaeger vs. Kelsie May (The Voice Battle Round) Brenna Yaeger vs. Kelsie May Team Blake): Not the best take on Reba’s “Fancy” by either singer, as both were a bit off at times and clearly nervous. Based on her potential, Brenna got the nod. No steal. India Carney vs. Clinton Washington (The Voice Battle Round) Clinton Washington vs. India Carney (Team Christina): Finally, a barn burner! India was incredible in winning this battle, but her rival also won acclaim. That was enough to keep Clinton on the program. Adam swooped in for the steal, meaning that both he and Christina ended the night by cutting one singer and adding another, better one to their rosters. Not bad for a night’s work on the hit competition. Who was your favorite on The Voice Season 8 Episode 7? Did the coaches make the right decisions? Whose team looks best so far? Hit the comments! The Voice Season 8 Episode 2 saw a crop of aspiring singing sensations compete for the musical attention of Christina, Pharrell, Blake and Adam on NBC. After The Voice Season 8 premiere introduced us to some of the spring campaign’s most promising stars, the sophomore installment did more of the same. Let’s meet them, shall we? Anthony Riley can get on up to join Team Pharrell thanks to his performance of James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good).” All four judges turned in seconds! Blaze Johnson joined Team Adam with a rendition of The Fray’s “How to Save a Life” that managed to get two chairs turned, even if it was a bit uneven. Brooke Adee and her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” earned a spot on Team Blake. Might we have another teenage star on our hands (she’s 16))? Gabriel Wolfchild won a place on Team Christina, shunning Adam and Blake, after his take on a folk staple, Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” Mia Z performed B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone,” a cover that needed work but featured enough range, tone and power to win a place on Team Pharrell. Deanna Johnson put her all into a rendition of Kodaline’s “All I Want,” and the returning auditioner got it done this time, securing a spot on Team Adam. Joe Tolo is now a card-carrying member of Team Christina, choosing Aguilera over Blake Shelton after belting out The Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody.” Tonya Boyd-Cannon and her prison choir background (seriously) made the bold song choice of Pharrell’s “Happy,” and was more than happy to join … Adam’s team. The Voice results are in, and the champion unveiled. Who won Season 7?! The NBC competition closed out 2014 with an epic results show featuring a number of star-studded performances, and of course, one young man named The Voice . Team Adam stood a 75 percent chance of notching yet another champion, with only Craig Wayne Boyd (of Team Blake) standing in the way of Levine & Co.
