‘Transformers’ Stars Reveal Tricks Behind Filming Building-Escape Scene

‘We all felt 12 again, sliding down the side of this building, shooting, screaming,’ Tyrese Gibson tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Shia LaBeouf in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: Jaimie Trueblood For those who’ve seen ” Transformers: Dark of the Moon ,” there is so much going on in the film that one could spend the next 12 months breaking down all the dirty details. We’ve already tackled the nods to “Star Trek” and the “Transformers”-specific Easter eggs , so today we turn our attention to one of the film’s most impressive action sequences: the part when evil Decepticon Shockwave sends his massive, spinning, snakelike destroyer after our protagonists, who become trapped in the upper stories of a tall building. The Transformer proceeds to cut the building in half, leaving our heroes no option but to jump out of the windows and slide down the outside of the building to safety. MTV News had the scene’s stars, Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Tyrese Gibson explain how they managed to pull off that sequence. “The building comes up on what I can only describe as a crane,” Whiteley explained of the rig used to support and move the specific set piece. “It tilts to about a 40-degree angle. It’s built to look like the outside of a skyscraper,” she said. “Shia, myself, Tyrese, the Marines, we all set at the top, Mike [director Michael Bay] would scream ‘Action!’ and then we would slide down this thing,” she recalled. “And then flower pots, chairs, paper and fake glass, tennis balls, every office supply you could possibly think of would get thrown down after us.” Despite the gravity of that particular scene, it turns out that the boys thought of the tilting skyscraper set piece more like a ride at a county fair. “This thing had to be 150 to 200 feet in the air. It was like a huge slide,” Gibson said. “We all felt 12 again, sliding down the side of this building, shooting, screaming, doing everything we had to do in those scenes.” “It was scary stuff,” he added with a smile. “It was scary with the idea that we are about to be eaten, eaten alive.” “We shot that for three weeks or so,” LaBeouf said. “You’re basically pulling yourself on rope to get to the top of the thing. It’s like a big slide, you know those slides they have at fairs where you get the little brown bag? Brown bag slides, sort of like that.” Whiteley added that in the midst of all the fun had while sliding, she learned very quickly to pay attention to her landing and get out of the way when she reached the bottom of the set piece. “I’d always hit the bottom first. It took one time to realize if I didn’t get out of the way really quick, I was going to get flattened by a 300-pound man coming quite quickly after me!” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . The Game Talks Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre

R.E.D. Album will drop after Dre finishes Detox, Game tells Mixtape Daily. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Matt Elias The Game Photo: MTV News Compton rapper the Game is still all-red everything, up to his crimson Mohawk. On his latest single, the Cool & Dre-produced “Red Nation,” another rapper with a penchant for the same color, Lil Wayne, performs the chorus. We spoke to the Game on the set of the “Red Nation” video, and he recalled how he got Wayne to appear on the record. “I called Wayne and I was like, ‘Yo I need you to kill this hook,’ ” the Game told Mixtape Daily. “He was like, ‘No problem,’ and he did his thing for me.” The Game usually prefers to record all of his collaborations with guest artists while they’re in the same studio rather than sending music files back and forth via the Internet, but he made an exception for Weezy. “Wayne been on this I Am Still Music tour, man, doing his thing,” the Game explained. “The only exception. That’s like my brother. We from the same side of the rag. So you know what it is, man, we representing. Me and Wayne, we been in the studio vibe before; it just wasn’t on this song.” Weezy previously appeared on the Game’s 2008 album, LAX, performing chorus duties on the introspective “My Life.” The Game’s forthcoming The R.E.D. Album does not yet have a release date. According to the rapper, Dr. Dre’s Detox album is holding up the process. “[The] release date [is] probably late July or early August, man. I’ll let [producer] Jimmy Iovine put that red paint on the calendar and give us a specific date,” the Game said. “All I know is that the album is almost finished. Dre is finishing up Detox and then he going to help me finish up mine. I’m like 90, 95 percent done. Just waiting on Dre to finish his project and then come on over and lend his ear and probably mix a couple of songs, especially the ones that he did, and we’re going to see it in stores.” Dr. Dre famously said, “Look out for detox” on the song “Higher” from the Game’s 2005 debut, The Documentary. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for The R.E.D. Album or Detox. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists The Game Dr. Dre Lil Wayne

‘Glee’ Creator Ryan Murphy Apologizes To Kings Of Leon

Murphy tells The Hollywood Reporter that he respects it ‘when artists don’t want a show … to interpret their songs.’ By Gil Kaufman Kings of Leon Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images On second thought, “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy didn’t exactly mean it when he said “f— you” to Kings of Leon back in January. Yes, he was a bit miffed that the sibling rockers (whom he also called “self-centered a–holes”) had mouthed off about not wanting their song “Use Somebody” to appear on the high school musical sensation, but given some time to reflect, Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter this week that perhaps he could have expressed himself differently. “I didn’t speak with as much clarity as I would have liked,” Murphy explained to the magazine. “Who am I to say, ‘F–k you?’ That’s not what I meant. I completely understand when artists don’t want a show or another artist to interpret their songs. In fact, I respect it. It’s their personal work and I’d feel the same way. We get turned down all the time and [I] don’t fight it or even go back after a rejection.” Murphy even revealed that he got turned down by another artist recently, Icelandic enigma Bjork, who passed up the opportunity to have one of her songs used in the show. “She read the scene and didn’t think it was the right fit for her song,” he said. “I told her, ‘That’s completely cool,’ and she said to come back to her down the road. We deal with that every day.” Murphy came under fire again recently when Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl said he didn’t think the show runner should complain when bands don’t want their tunes used on the hit Fox series. “It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do f—ing ‘Glee,’ ” Grohl told the Reporter . “And then the guy who created ‘Glee’ is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his f—ing show. … F— that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do ‘Glee.’ … I watched 10 minutes. It’s not my thing.” Though the comments hit home with Murphy, a Foos fan, he said he understood where Grohl was coming from and politely disagreed with his comments. “I’ve never felt that if you don’t give ‘Glee’ your music, there’s something diabolical about you,” Murphy responded. “To the contrary: I support artists and what they choose to do … I think Kings of Leon are cool as sh–. The Foo Fighters are brilliant. We’d love to do one of their songs, if they were ever interested. But if it’s not their thing, then OK. I personally wish them luck [and] will still listen to their music.” Chastened by the incident, Murphy said he’s learned not to drop f-bombs on other artists in the press — and has, in fact, starting exchanging texts with Kings of Leon — but added that he won’t stop pushing to have cool and interesting music on his program. “I’m really proud of the fact that we can introduce songs to younger kids or their parents because I’m the biggest music fan,” he said. “The show is about the love of performing and arts education — things I think are very special.” What do you think about Murphy’s latest remarks regarding the Kings of Leon flap? Snoop Dogg Blesses YG’s Take On Chronic Classic

Rap vet talks to Mixtape Daily about YG’s Just Re’d Up Dr. Dre cover, featuring Nipsey Hussle and Tyga. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts YG Photo: MTV News Cornerstone Credentials: Dr. Dre (by way of Snoop Dogg and YG) Snoop Dogg once rapped, “It ain’t no fun if the homeys can’t have none,” and now that he’s achieved veteran status, he’s more than willing to bless the younger set. Newly minted XXL “Freshman 11” cover star YG recruited fellow Los Angeles upstarts Nipsey Hussle and Tyga for a remake of the Snoop-powered “Bitches Ain’t Sh–” from Dr. Dre’s classic offering The Chronic . The song is set to appear on YG’s forthcoming mixtape, Just Re’d Up , and Snoop gave the re-up of his and Dre’s track a thumbs up. “He let me hear it when we were onstage,” Snoop told Mixtape Daily . “And I love the younger generation. They don’t have to ask me or check in with me or none of that. If you want to use any of my music or any of my material or any of my lines — that goes for young, old, new, whoever — feel free. That’s what hip-hop is about: spreading love and sharing love. I never been one to say, ‘Well, he stole my lines; he took this from me.’ It’s all a part of hip-hop. It’s a culture we all share and love. If you want to get something from me or taking something from me as my young homey, you got permission. This is Big Snoop Dogg, you know I love the hip-hop game. YG, you know what it do; do your thing.” YG said when he was growing up, he watched Snoop, Ice Cube and others on the Left Coast put on for their city, and it’s something he wants to do being a part of the next generation. “I want to do the same thing when we start poppin’,” he explained. “So, I’ll be like, ‘Nip, you gotta mess with me. Tyga, you got to do some West Coast sh–.’ And it gets done. I’m just bringing us all together. We all do our thing, but I make it to where we do our own stuff but we can get it poppin’ together. So the city will know we’re f—ing with each other, and it’s all good. I’m really trying to bring back this whole West Coast on another level — some young fly sh–.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
