Really??? “Culturally Ignorant” Kobe Bryant Speaks On Miami Heat Trayvon Martin Hoodie Pic–”Don’t Jump To Someone’s Defense Just Because They Are Black”

He should probably just shoot in the gym and STFU … Kobe Bryant Shares Thoughts On Miami Heat Trayvon Martin Hoodie Photo Via ColorLines In the March 31 edition of the New Yorker there’s a great profile of Kobe Bryant by Ben McGrath. In it, Bryant talks about aging out of his Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers, and how he thinks his fame is “pretty fucking cool” for a kid who grew up in Italy and moved to suburban Philly as a teenager. Throughout his career, Bryant’s been talking about as an outsider, specifically when it comes to being the most famous in the world in a sport that’s overwhelmingly black. It’s given him a politically moderate stance on things, which was on display when McGrath brought up the subject of LeBron James posting a photo online of the Heat players dressed in hoodies in solidarity with Trayvon Martin. I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.” The profile goes on to quote former NFL running back Jim Brown, who at one point said, “[Kobe] is somewhat confused about culture, because he was brought up in another country.” Bryant then defended himself on Twitter, writing, “A ‘Global’ African American is an inferior shade to ‘American’ African American?? #hmmm. that doesn’t sound very #Mandela or #DrKing sir.” Setting aside a minute the fact that Bryant doesn’t seem know much about the Trayvon Martin case, what strikes me about this exchange is his insistence on questioning what it means to be black in America, particularly from the perspective of someone who grew up elsewhere. In this vein I think of Zade Smith and Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie’s recent discussion at the Schomburg, where Adichie talked at length about coming to the United States from Nigeria and learning how deeply embedded race is in American culture. What sets Bryant apart is his stingy insistence on clinging to a “post-racial” identity, this very old, conservative notion that black people should not be treated differently in this country — despite all of the evidence, like Martin’s death, that they are. People didn’t stand up for Trayvon Martin just because he was a black boy, they did it because his death so sharply illustrated the dangers of being a black boy in America. We’re not surprised at anything that comes out of Kobe’s mouth, but what do you think of his assertion that we should not defend black people just because they are black? Image via AP

Break Ups: Karrueche Dumped Breezy Because He Wouldn’t Stop Texting His Jump Offs

We guess Karrueche got tired of being Chris’ doormat. Karrueche Broke Up With Chris Brown For Texting Other Women Poor Karrueche got clowned by Rihanna publicly, stood by Chris through court and rehab and he still was creepin’ on her. SMH. According TMZ: Karrueche Tran didn’t dump Chris Brown because of the girl he allegedly banged in rehab — sources close to the model tell TMZ … she dropped the hammer on their relationship because he refused to stop texting his army of jump offs. There’s been speculation that Karrueche pulled the plug when she found out he had hooked up with another girl in his facility at the beginning of March — but we’re told the break-up preceded that … We’re told Karrueche ended things after she visited Chris in rehab the month before. Sources tell us … Karrueche saw Chris’ phone during her visit — and it was filled with inappropriate texts from other girls. It was the last straw. We’re told Karrueche was especially pissed because she’d been nothing but supportive to Chris throughout his ordeal, even going to court with him. We’re told Karrueche wasn’t even aware Chris had allegedly been getting down with girls in rehab until long after the break-up. Somewhere Rih Rih is laughing.

A Lil Positivity: Black Youths At Princeton Have “Healthy Dialogue” With Cop Who Racially Profiled Them [Video]

Black Youths Have Positive Conversation With Cop Who Profiled Them It’s good they were able to express their thoughts without being victims of police brutality. According to The Root: What began as an unfortunate incident of alleged police profiling in Princeton, N.J., ended with a public-forum discussion with the officer who did the profiling. According to one member of the Black Youth Project 100, or BYP100, a youth-centered black activist group, the police pulled over a car carrying members who were leaving a gathering on Princeton University’s campus on Saturday, March 8. The black officer cited a broken tail light, but upon investigation the vehicle was found to be intact. The unidentified officer let the group go after asking them where they were headed and saying that he would “beat them there,” Fresco Steez, one of the members present at the incident, told The Root. It was when the members arrived at the Nassau Hotel and actually saw the officer pulled up there waiting for them that the discussion was triggered. The group approached him, questioning the motive for his actions. The officer insisted that he wasn’t trying to criminalize the black youths and said that his feelings were hurt at the accusation. But then the officer offered the young people free parking as an apology, which got a conversation started. Kudos to the black youth for having the courage to approach the police officer. Chris Harrison on Juan Pablo Galavis: I Still Like the Guy, But …

Juan Pablo Galavis’ decisions this season, followed by his comments on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special baffled everyone who saw them. Especially the man sitting across from him and forced to engage him. “I had like a pack of Tums and Pepto Bismol. I was just downing it during the show,” Chris Harrison joked to Access Hollywood in a new interview. “It was an interesting, bizarre ride.” “I know I say this a lot about being dramatic and controversial and all that, but literally, in 12 years, it was the most confusing, bizarre show I’ve ever seen.” Juan Pablo Interview with Chris Harrison Regarding the most awkward part, when Chris said that Juan Pablo had a surprise , only to have Galavis act like he had no clue what he was talking about? “Juan Pablo told us in St. Lucia, that [on] ‘After the Final Rose,’ I have a big surprise for you,” Chris said. “He said it to one of our executives at ABC.” “[We said] ‘Wow, OK,’ because we were all a little unsatisfied with the ending and the non-proposal [to Nikki] and the, ‘I like you a lot’ ending to the show.” “But he’s like, ‘Don’t worry. After the Final Rose, I have a big surprise for you,’” Harrison recounted. “We’re like, ‘OK, great, maybe he’ll do something big.” Even one day before the taping, he thought the surprise – most likely a proposal to Nikki Ferrell or at least some declaration of love – was still coming. “Someone got a text, I heard, yesterday, that reiterated, ‘I’m gonna have a big surprise at the show tonight,’ so I thought [it] would at least be, ‘I love you.’” But when Harrison asked Juan Pablo about the surprise after The Bachelor finale , the star said he didn’t have one, and appeared utterly clueless. “I think that was the mood he was in,” Chris said. “He was in a defiant, defensive mood.” Why? Who knows. Harrison also blogged about the interview on EW: Juan Pablo After the Final Rose Interview “The interview with Juan Pablo and Nikki was just a bit odd. I know it was orchestrated by him to not say how he feels about Nikki. The only thing I can’t figure out is why?” “It was a rough ride for Juan Pablo this season.the good news is … it worked! He found a great woman in Nikki and they are in love and happy.” “So of all things to hide I’m not sure why they chose that. I’m not sure what the endgame or goal was in not speaking about his feelings.” “I know it’s something Nikki was very uncomfortable with,” Harrison went on, adding “but I think she really felt like she needed to support her man.” “I’m not sure when or where along the way Juan Pablo decided to fight this process, but he certainly did. I was very sorry to see it end like that because it didn’t have to.” “That was a choice made entirely by Juan Pablo.” “I will wrap this up by saying, I’m not angry at Juan Pablo nor do I dislike the guy. Am I often confused and puzzled by his behavior and his thoughts?” “Absolutely, but that doesn’t anger me. I wish he and Nikki well. I truly hope Juan Pablo especially can find peace somewhere in his life.” “I hope he will see that there are many people around him who love him and are trying to help him, but in the end he must make the choice to listen and let them in.” You tell us: Was JP the worst Bachelor ever?   Yes. What a jackass. Not the biggest fan, but give him a break! Shut up haters! I love him! Juan Pablo forever!!!!!! View Poll » Will Juan Pablo and Nikki Ferrell last?   Yes. Forever and ever. We’re including some videos from the cast tonight along with some PR photos from the film, but we want to hear your thoughts on this important discussion. No Chill: Serial Sidechick Sandrina Shultz Talks Creeping With Dwyane Wade, Lamar Odom & Says She Doesn’t Feel Sorry For Gabby Or Khloe

Serial Mistress Sandrina Shultz Speaks On Dating Lamar Odom & Dwyane Wade 2014 has definitely been the year of the secret sidechick struggle and one name that seems to repeatedly surface anytime there’s mention of groupies or jump-offs is Sandrina Shultz. Sandrina most recently made headlines as the shameless former sidepiece of Dwyane Wade before his actual secret babymama was revealed and she’s also been linked to troubled NBA baller Lamar Odom in the midst of his struggle to keep his marriage to Khloe Kardashian afloat. Sandrina recently chatted with Black Sports Online’s “The Break Room” and no topic was off limits, including her relationships with Dwade and Lamar, Khloe being a sidepiece, not feeling sorry, private investigators at her door step and more. Check out what she had to say below On her thoughts about being called a groupie: You know, that’s a very good thing that I did wanna talk about because there are groupies out there that are bad ones but, then there’s the good groupies that are successful. You know, Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian and all of them. But, my take on the whole groupie thing is that I have a certain group of men that I’m interested in and thus far, it’s been basketball players…NBA players. So, for me, when someone calls me a groupie, I don’t get offended because I do love those group of men..that’s how I take the word groupie . And I’m just like them. Whether they love the dark-skinned girls or the light skinned-girls with big booties and long hair and all these other kind of characteristics that they like; they, themselves are groupies. So, call me a groupie or call me a jump-off or calling me whatever but I love these group of men and I’m not going to stop just because I’m labeled as a groupie. On her relationship with Dwyane Wade & his baby news: Well with Dwyane, it was a shock. I didn’t have a clue that my pictures were going around like that. I didn’t even know that he was having a baby, he didn’t tell me. We are friends and we’ve been friends for close to 10 years now. So it was really heartbreaking in the sense that we have discussed relationships and things and babies and then you come out to find that he had a baby! That was a little bit too much for me to handle. On whether they discussed having babies and a relationship while Dwyane was with Gabby or Sivohaughn: It’s so complicated because we started when he was going through some trials and tribulationswith his ex-wife and we became friends. And now we’re just friends, I do wanna clarify that. I do have his back. On relationship with Lamar Lamaar is another person that’s been in my life for over 10 years. On his marital problems with Khloe: Definitely now my take on him trying to [save] the marriage…..he should have thought about all that before he did all of this extra stuff. He choose this life so, he has to deal with it. She continued the interview with some not-so-nice choice words for Gabrielle Union and Khloe Kardashian after explaining why she’s not ashamed or regretful about her slorey sidepiece lifestyle.
