The Situation Hopes To Go From ‘Jersey Shore’ To Big Screen

‘I would have to say that I’m looking forward to possibly doing a movie or so,’ he hints to MTV News at the American Music Awards. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Tim Kash Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Photo: Todd Williamson/ WireImage He’s got his own clothing line, a book, a couple of moneymaking trademark phrases, a hilarious abstinence commercial with Bristol Palin , a hit TV show, a couple mill in the bank and, of course, those abs. But what “Jersey Shore” breakout star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino really wants to do is … act. MTV News caught up with the former underwear model on the red carpet at Sunday night’s American Music Awards , where the Sitch told us he’s got his eye on jumping to the big screen. “In the upcoming year, I would have to say that I’m looking forward to possibly doing a movie or so,” Sorrentino said. Asked what kind or roles he’s coveting, the onetime “Dancing With the Stars” contestant teased, “I want to surprise everybody. They might be coming to something soon.” While an action movie would seem to be the way to go for the buff GTL fanatic, Sitch was cagey on that angle, saying it could be a shoot-’em-up situation — or something entirely different. “It could be something in the middle. I don’t know. … Hopefully it works out. Other than that, there could be also some reality in the future as well. I’m right in between, I don’t know. I’m like in college right now, about to graduate. I don’t know what’s going on. Maybe I’ll stay another year, maybe I’ll graduate, I don’t know.” In the meantime, he’s focused on hawking his book, “Here’s the Situation: A Guide to Creeping on Chicks, Avoiding Grenades, and Getting in Your GTL on the Jersey Shore,” and he recently told MTV News that the sky’s the limit for him. “I’ve realized what I want to do in life in that I just love being in front of the camera,” he said. “I love being an entertainer. It’s almost been a lifelong journey to find out what I wanted to do. I’m so happy to be here, and everything’s been going great.” What kind of movie would you like to see the Situation in? Barbara Bush Jabs Sarah Palin: ‘I Hope She Stays’ In Alaska

Barbara Bush has shared her thoughts on Sarah Palin, and it sounds as if she hopes the former Alaska governor decides against running for president. “I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska,” Bush said, before adding, “and I hope she'll stay there.” The former first lady made the comments in an interview with Larry King, which will air Monday night on “Larry King Live.” Barbara Bush is not the only prominent Republican woman to speak poorly of Palin in recent days. On Monday, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, whom Sarah Palin vociferously opposed during the state's most recent — and still ongoing — Senate election, said that the former governor lacks the “leadership qualities” and “intellectual curiosity” necessary to be president. In the interview with Larry King, Barbara Bush also said that she “loved” her son George W. Bush's new book. When asked about the Tea Party in the same interview, former President George H. W. Bush said that “some of [their] ideas make a lot of sense,” but added that he is “confused by it” and said he does not “know what it really is.” added by: TimALoftis

Eyedea Died Of Accidental Drug Overdose

Late Minnesota indie rapper was half of the group Eyedea & Abilities. By Gil Kaufman Eyedea Photo: flickr.com/theotherchristianlundberg A month after his shocking death, the Ramsey County, Minnesota, medical examiner’s office has reported that indie rapper Mike “Eyedea” Larsen died of a drug overdose. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the cause of death for St. Paul native Larsen was “opiate toxicity,” with no specific drugs mentioned as contributing factors. The overdose was ruled accidental. The day after her son’s death, Larsen’s mother, Kathy Averill, said Eyedea did not suffer from any addictions. Eyedea, half of the popular underground hip-hop duo Eyedea & Abilities, was remembered at a public service in St. Paul on October 28 that was attended by more than 2,000 people. A sold-out musical tribute to the rapper at Minneapolis’ First Avenue club took place November 9, which would have been Eyedea’s 29th birthday. Among the friends who performed at the show were fellow Twin Cities MCs Slug and Carnage and longtime collaborator Kristoff Krane, Aesop Rock, Doseone, DJ Abilities and former Moldy Peaches member Kimya Dawson. The Minneapolis City Pages reported that the show was full of emotional tributes, including a touching one from Alexei and Channy Moon Casselle of the group Roma di Luna. They performed a duet of Bob Dylan’s “He Was a Friend of Mine,” and before leaving the stage, Alexei “cleared his throat and spoke into the microphone, fighting back tears. ‘The last time I saw Mikey, we were working on a new song together. At one point, he sat down on the couch, picked up a guitar, and started playing this song,’ ” Alexei said. The couple then played a cover of the Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” that brought tears to more than a few eyes in the crowd. “It was one of the saddest, most beautiful moments I’ve ever witnessed at a live show,” wrote the reviewer. Avril Lavigne Experimenting With Hip-Hop, Alex Da Kid Reveals

‘It’s a mixture of pop/rock and what I do,’ producer says of new album. By James Dinh Avril Lavigne Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images When Avril Lavigne splashed onto the scene eight years ago, the punk princess fueled her angsty, rebellious image with a pop-rock sound that had fans hooked. On her new album, the singer is ready to push her musical boundaries by mixing her signature sound with hip-hop elements, according to producer Alex Da Kid. “It’s a mixture of pop/rock and what I do,” the “Love the Way You Lie” hitmaker told Rap-Up TV . “We’ve got some things that are hip-hop leaning, and we’ve got some things that are more pop/rock leaning, so it’s what we both do just kind of combined into one thing.” The British producer explained that the songstress had her label reach out to him after hearing B.o.B and Hayley Williams’ mega-hit “Airplanes.” As hinted in the letter Lavigne posted on her website to her fans this past week, Alex suggested that the singer has experienced some hardships with her record label when it comes to the release of the yet-to-be-titled album. “I’m not sure what’s going on with the album, just because she’s been working on this album for a long time,” he said. “So I think there’s a lot of stuff going on politically and behind the scenes. “I really liked working with her,” he added. “She’s really cool and down to earth. It was a good experience.” He recalled their drunk studio sessions, but kept tight-lipped about other track details, saying, “We’re working it all out, so it’s probably too early to talk about it.” While he might not know exactly when the LP will drop, Alex knows all too well about fans’ pleas for new Avril Lavigne material. “Her fans hit me up on Twitter every day about ‘When’s the album coming out?’ ‘When’s the single coming out?’ so I know there’s a big demand for it,” he said. “Hopefully, it’ll be out soon, and we’ll see what happens.” Are you excited for Avril’s new album? Die Antwoord Call Major-Label Debut $O$ ‘Too Fast, Too Furious’

‘Our style is incredibly, like, WWF,’ rapper Ninja tells MTV News. By Rya Backer Die Antwoord Photo: MTV News South Africa’s Die Antwoord first made a splash in the States earlier this year with their stunningly edited, sometimes-creepy video for “Enter the Ninja.” The song, a mix of rave, rap and the uniquely childlike voice of the duo’s female contingency, Yo-Landi Vi$$er, was only an introduction into their world. “Our style is incredibly, like, WWF, too fast, too furious, but the ingredients are South African,” rapper Ninja told MTV News about the band’s sound and aesthetic. They’re also heavily rooted in the Zef subculture. “Zef is, like, a style,” he explained, “but it’s got a lot of … it’s got like a look. It’s a South African style that we just kind of … it’s broken around and we kind of stuck it together. But there’s a whole Zef language.” The slang is an integral part of the Die Antwoord canon and is featured heavily throughout their major-label debut, $O$. Because their American fans — they admit they first broke out Stateside before their popularity grew back home — aren’t privy to some of the vernacular, we had them translate some popular Zef words and phrases. ” ‘Vat pomp’: When you say ‘what’s up,’ like, ‘hello,’ we say ‘vat pomp.’ It means, like, ‘What’s pumping?’ ” Ninja explained. “But they’re not actual words. They’re slang words, but there’s lots of them.” The band has pitched in to make sure nothing gets lost in translation. “We started to notice that the Zef slang is kind of like — if you know ‘Lord of the Rings,’ it’s kind of like learning the Elvish alphabet,” Ninja said. “So we put all our translations, ’cause people always don’t know what we’re talking about … [on] our interwebs on DieAntwoord.com . It’s all our lyrics with Zef translations to help people understand. People enjoy that kind of thing. It’s like a whole world opens up.” What do you think of Die Antwoord? ‘Glee’ Super Bowl Episode To Feature Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’

Entertainment Weekly reports the MJ classic will be mashed up with a yet-to-be-chosen song. By James Dinh The cast of “Glee” Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images After a string of high-profile guest stars and theme episodes, “Glee” will reportedly take on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” next in a mash-up with a yet-to-be-chosen song for the show’s post-Super Bowl episode , according to Entertainment Weekly. The episode, which will be co-sponsored by General Motors, is said to be the most expensive of the series’ history and likely one of television’s priciest episodes ever. Despite the cast’s “Thriller” mash-up, the broadcast will not serve as a tribute episode to the late King of Pop, but will feature contemporary covers of the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry. As for how Jackson’s song will be incorporated into the show, the EW source revealed that the episode will have a sports theme by focusing on the local football championship and Sue Sylvester’s cheerleading regionals. The “Thriller” mash-up is expected to play onscreen during the game’s halftime. In addition to the timeless tune, Darren Criss and Dot-Marie Jones will reprise their roles as Blaine and Coach Beiste for the big time production. Earlier this year, rumors swirled about who the post-Super Bowl episode would pay homage to, including Bruce Springsteen. However, the source admitted that the only star considered for the episode was Elton John. Gleeks can expect a tribute episode for John as one of the season’s remaining episodes. Back in August, “Glee” star Lea Michele shared her idea for the episode. “I think they are saving Justin Timberlake for the Super Bowl episode,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “They have to be, because he is so perfect for our show. He has to be on it! When I met Jessica Biel, like a loser, I asked her to tell Justin to come on our show. [ Laughs. ] She was a little taken aback and said, ‘Um, OK. I’ll tell him.’ ” What song do you want to see in the “Thriller” mash-up? Share your ideas in the comments! Related Photos What Other ‘Glee’ Music Videos Do We Want To See? Bristol Palin Stays, Brandy Goes: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Fans React

‘It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest,’ one MTV News commenter fumes. By Kara Warner Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Photo: ABC With every season of “Dancing with the Stars,” there are early favorites and front-runners and at least one shocking elimination. On Tuesday night, viewers got their shocker of the season (or second shock, if you’re an Audrina Patridge fan) when consistent high-scorer Brandy was eliminated . “People vote and their voices count,” Brandy’s partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy said after the elimination was announced. “I don’t regret a second … of being on this season. It’s been an amazing journey.” “I don’t know how I feel right now,” Brandy said, crying. The reactions to Brandy’s departure have been coming in fast and furious since the announcement. Most commenters took issue with the fact that Brandy is gone and Bristol Palin remains in the competition. “Brandy is so talented and she worked so hard. I was shocked she was eliminated!” Sharon wrote. “I thought the competition was really between her and Jennifer Grey. Bristol [Palin] has improved but she should have been off the show weeks ago. That was painful to watch — very painful!” “It’s just a silly dance contest,” John wrote. “This is a network television [show’s] dream to make millions watch their shows!!! Create animosity and sparks and make people angry over the winner to get more people watching and calling. You know they’re making money from all those AT&T calls … plus the ratings are through the roof with this political angle they’ve cashed in on,” he said, referring to the outcry that supporters of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin are keeping Bristol on the show. “Bristol is no star and has no talent and should not have been picked for the finals over Brandy,” commenter Marianne fumed. “Brandy did beautifully and got better each week. I can’t believe Bristol’s scores were more than Brandy’s. This show is a hoax! It’s not about talent, but a popularity contest. If Bristol wins, I’ll never watch this show again!” Other complaints brought up problems with the telephone voting system for Brandy’s phone line. They claimed they couldn’t get through until time ran out. Despite all the anti-Palin sentiments, a few folks came to her defense, however. “I can’t believe how mean you people are, always picking on Bristol,” Barbara wrote. “No, she is not the best dancer but she has progressed from a wall flower to being a confident young lady because of DWTS. She has become a ‘good’ dancer. It has taken a lot of courage to go on this show. At least 2 countries can vote and as many Democrats are eligible to vote as Republicans. How do you figure it’s just the state of Alaska and Republicans voting?? It also has to do with personality and improvement. Brandy is a great dancer but she is a whiner and Maks is arrogant! Jennifer is a beautiful dancer and she has improved greatly. Give Bristol a break!!!!” What do you think of the elimination? Will Palin get voted off next week? Share your thoughts in the comments! Drake Reveals Next Album To Be Called Take Care

GQ Man of the Year tells the mag follow-up to Thank Me Later will be ‘catchier.’ By Gil Kaufman Drake on the December 2010 cover of GQ , “Man of the Year” edition Photo: Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin/ Conde Nast It’s a long way from mixtape infamy to the cover of GQ magazine . But Drake has successfully made that transition, and in the 2010 “Men of the Year” issue of the venerable men’s mag, Drizzy models some high-end Burberry and Billy Reid duds while dropping a bit of news about his next move. Among the biggest revelations is that he’s decided to call his next album Take Care. Due next spring, Drake promised his second effort will be packed with more inescapable hits like “Best I Ever Had.” “Don’t think for a second I can’t do better,” he told the magazine. “For Take Care, I’m trying to find a way to make my raps shorter but catchier. I’m trying to condense my thoughts down to 16 bars. And it’s coming out more potent.” He also explained that after the mega-hype created by his smash 2009 mixtape So Far Gone, he decided to call his major label debut Thank Me Later as a way to preemptively deflate the anticipatory hype he knew he couldn’t live up to. Among the other revelations the 23-year old Canadian MC coughs up is the story of how way back in May 2009, when he “wasn’t even really Drake yet,” he was robbed at double gunpoint while on a date with a girl in his hometown of Toronto. Just back from a tour, Drake said, “I knew it was a setup, because I had on a sweater and a jacket … but when they banged on the car window with a gun and opened the door, the first thing he said was, ‘Yo, run that chain.’ They didn’t rob her, and her purse was sitting right there. So I was like, ‘OK, yup — you set the whole thing up.” After being relieved of $4,000 in U.S. currency and a chain that new mentor Lil Wayne had just given him, Drake said he learned a valuable lesson. From then on, he vowed to steer clear of the negative energy that can sometimes surround the rap world. Once his career began to take off a month later, he was prepared to handle it. And while fans will have to wait a while to hear those smart-bomb tracks from Take Care, they can slake their thirst with new Drizzy courtesy of Young Money cohort Nicki Minaj, whose debut, Pink Friday, leaked online on Wednesday (November). The pair team up for the tune “Moment 4 Life,” in which Drake teases the couple’s fake Twitter marriage , rapping, “F— it, me and Nicki getting married today/ And all you bitches hating can catch the bouquet.” What do you think of Drake’s proposed next album title? ‘American Idol’ Auditioners ‘Super Excited’ About New Judges

‘I pretty much almost fainted,’ one ‘Idol’ wannabe told MTV News about Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announcement. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Matt Elias Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images The big news is out: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are officially “American Idol” judges. MTV News first consulted a few experts on the topic , and then we hit the L.A. “Idol” auditions, at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California, to chat with the wannabe singers to see what they thought of the new faces they would soon be seeing in the audition rooms. “I’m super excited,” Kaeli Filpi said. “I’m a huge fan of Steven Tyler. My parents are all into ’80s classic rock, so I’m a huge fan of him. I’m so excited.” Fellow hopeful Vonabell Sherman echoed the Tyler love. “Oh my gosh, I could not believe that Steven Tyler and J.Lo were on [the panel], and I’m thrilled,” she said. “If I get to see Steven Tyler, I don’t even know what I’m going to do. I think I might just, like, break down. He’s awesome!” “I pretty much almost fainted,” Keeira Lyn Ford admitted about hearing the news. “Because, honestly, Jennifer Lopez has been, it sounds corny, but she’s been my American Idol forever. She does everything I’ve ever wanted to do — music, fashion — she’s just an icon, and she’s the one I’m most excited about.” Erin Shelton had an alternative suggestion for the show: add a fourth and familiar face back into the mix. “I’ve heard rumors who it’s going to be, who’s going to be here and who’s not going to be here, and I wanted them to bring Paula [Abdul] back. Come on, bring her back! Why not? She’s hilarious,” Shelton said, before redirecting her thoughts at the actual new judges. “They’re going to bring in completely different aspects of music. We’ve got a rocker and a girl who’s been in pop forever.” “I think they’re going to bring a lot of energy, definitely newness. Out with the old, in with the new,” “Idol” hopeful Aaron James said. “I think they’re definitely going to pump it up and to try to do some different things to make the show completely different. That’s what’s going to keep people watching.” Katie Heart said she hopes Lopez will put more emphasis on the performance/dance side of things. “I love that whole performance part, and [Tyler] will bring more of a rocker’s edge.” Finally, Krihste Rhodes spoke about the fact that “Idol” fans knew what to expect from Cowell and Abdul, but that Lopez and Tyler’s tastes and preferences are a total mystery. “From Simon and Paula, it’s going to be so different, because they’ve had the same mind-set for all these seasons and the same kind of thing they’re looking for. J.Lo and Steven Tyler, who knows what they like? Nobody knows yet,” Rhodes pointed out. “It’s just going to be so interesting to see the kinds of things they come up with.” What do you want to see from Lopez and Tyler? Dancing? Rock and roll?
