Christina Aguilera Sparkles In ‘Burlesque’ First Photos

‘The art of the tease, the dance, beautiful women,’ the singer tells USA Today of what drew her to upcoming flick. By Eric Ditzian Christina Aguilera Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images More than a year before Christina Aguilera got back into the pop music game with Bionic, her first studio album since 2006, the signer decided to explore some artistic territory she’d never visited before: the big screen. In May 2009, Xtina signed on to star in “Burlesque,” a musical about a small-town girl who dreams of becoming a star. Now, we’re finally getting our first look at Aguilera in the fall release. “It’s sexy, it’s sensual,” Aguilera told USA Today. “The whole idea of burlesque has always intrigued me. The art of the tease, the dance, beautiful women — need I say more?” All that and more is on display in photos published by USA Today. . One image captures Aguilera in a leg-revealing, gold bodysuit as dancers flip and bow around her. Is this the film’s climatic scene? Is it a dream sequence? Fans will have to wait until the movie hits theaters in November to find out. Other pics show Aguilera with longer blonde locks: in her kitchen and at a nightclub with co-star Cher. “I love no-bullsh– women, and she’s the best of the best, an original trendsetter in her time and a legend in mine,” Aguilera said of Cher, who plays the owner of the burlesque club in the film. “I found her kind and warm. She had helpful advice and stories for days.” But Aguilera didn’t seem to need much advice, according to writer/director Steven Antin, who told the newspaper she didn’t take long to get the hang of a movie set. “She figured out how it works within weeks,” Antin said. “She is a little bit of a freak of nature and a perfectionist. This girl is a movie star.” What appealed to her about the role, Aguilera said, was that her character “wasn’t just a girl who comes to L.A. and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing.” Playing the character was so appealing, in fact, that the pop singer is already looking forward to taking on more movie roles. “I think people will definitely feel energized and excited,” she said. Lady Gaga’s ‘You And I’: The ‘Little Monsters’ Rate Her New Song

‘It sounds like old-school Gaga,’ one fan says outside Monster Ball Tour kickoff in Montreal. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Gabriel Bouys/ Getty Images MONTREAL — Last week, Lady Gaga debuted a brand-new song (“You and I”) during her performance at Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball . Of course, soon after, footage of the tune hit YouTube, where it quickly became a certified sensation. In fact, the response was so great, that on Monday, at the kickoff of the North American leg of the Monster Ball Tour in Montreal , Gaga decided — rather spur-of-the-moment-ly — to play the song again, much to the delight of the thousands of “little monsters” in attendance. And after the show — in between quizzing them about whether Gaga is Team Edward or Team Jacob — we decided to ask those monsters to review “You and I” for us. Not surprisingly, most of them seemed to love it. “It was so emotional. It brought a tear to my eye,” Larissa Saplywyj said. “You could feel her emotion too … how much it meant to her [to play it].” “She played the new song, [and] it was amazing. I didn’t even know it, and I am a huge Gaga fan,” Catherine Dupressoir added. “I’m going to go find it on YouTube when I get home.” Of course, it should be noted that not all of Gaga’s fans were as quick to embrace the new song. To some, it was too much of a departure from her electro-pop roots (of course, others were too busy getting engaged to even notice it at all). “I don’t hate it, but I’m expecting even more for the next album,” Nicholas Vansorto said. “I’d like to hear more electronic music, not just songs that are like that.” “Well, it’s a total different vibe. It’s very rock star, Elton John,” Danik Renaud said. “[But] any style suits her. … It was very special, indeed, for her to share something so great with us. I’m very honored to be a part of the premiere. … It was great being in there with all the people [to hear it].” Overall, most of the fans in Montreal gave the arena debut of “You and I” a resounding thumbs-up, especially since it harkens back to her early days as a performer in New York’s Lower East Side. “It sounds like old-school Gaga,” Liana Carbone said. “It sounds like pre- Fame Gaga, the real Gaga. The New York Gaga.” What do you think of “You and I”? Share your thoughts in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga

Daniel Radcliffe Was ‘OK’ With Being A Shorter ‘Harry Potter’

‘As long as Emma and Rupert weren’t shooting up too quickly either,’ star tells MTV News of falling few inches shy of Harry’s height in books. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe and Josh Horowitz Photo: MTV News In J.K. Rowling’s universe, Harry Potter isn’t a giant but he’s eventually described as slightly taller than average as the series progresses. So what did the actor who’s become synonymous with the wizard think of playing a character whose proportions don’t quite match his own? Daniel Radcliffe tells MTV News he wasn’t too concerned — but with some conditions. “I didn’t get particularly worried because as long as Emma [Watson] and Rupert [Grint] weren’t shooting up too quickly either, I’d look [fine],” he told us earlier this month at the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios . “We’d all look relatively [the same height]. It was all going to be OK,” Radcliffe added. Still, Radcliffe admitted he wouldn’t mind adding a few inches to his real-life frame. “I was worried on a personal level because I wanted to be slightly taller than I am, ideally,” he explained. “But I’ve now accepted it. Basically, I’ve came to the conclusion a while ago that you can either be really bitter about it or you can make loads of funny jokes.” What kinds of jokes, we asked. “When I meet people now and they all say, ‘God you’re so much shorter than I expected!’ I always say, ‘No! I’m actually slightly further away than you think,’ ” he smiled, adding, “Which confuses them.” Can you imagine anyone besides Daniel Radcliffe playing Harry? Tell us your thoughts in the comments! Eclipse Director David Slade: ‘I Have No Idea Why Anyone Would Hire Me!’

When David Slade was announced as the director of the third Twilight film, Eclipse , it seemed like a risky proposition: he had only made two other movies ( Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night ), and both indicated a sensibility that might be too aggressive for the romantic Stephenie Meyer series. Perhaps that’s exactly what the franchise needed, though, as Slade’s turned in a well-received installment that’s a good deal more propulsive than Chris Weitz’s sluggish New Moon . The day after Eclipse’s Los Angeles premiere, Slade was still riding high from the audience’s reaction as he talked to Movieline about the tough shoot, his thoughts on the controversial Breaking Dawn , and the follow-up he definitely isn’t making next.

Chris Matthews: Robert Byrd ‘Treasured’ Gadsen Flag; ‘Scared’ When Flag Flown at Tea Party

While MSNBC host Chris Matthews has routinely cited the American Revolution-era Gadsen flag as evidence of the extremism of the tea party movement, at the end of Monday’s Harball, he expressed his love for the banner while remembering West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd. [Audio available here ] In his ‘Let Me Finish’ segment, Matthews shared his thoughts on Byrd and how he particularly admired how the Democrat shared his “deep American objection to the Iraq War.” Matthews placed Byrd in an historic context and spoke of the nation’s founding, including one particular symbol of defiance during the Revolution: “I love the symbol of the Gadsden flag that, coiled rattlesnake against a field of yellow. ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ – it warned our enemies, and that included especially the British government and London.” Matthews then noted: “This morning, a man died who treasured this country and that flag. For those reasons, Senator Robert Byrd opposed both wars – both wars with Iraq.” In contrast, Matthews saw the same flag as dangerous in the hands of tea party protestors just twelve days earlier when previewing his ‘Rise of the New Right’ special on the June 16 Morning Joe program : “And what scared me, if you want to get scared, was the use of the flag from the American Revolution – the Great Gadsden flag from South Carolina, with the coiled rattlesnake. They are basically looking at the federal government now as an occupying force, basically a foreign occupying force, a tyranny. And that justifies a lot of bad behavior, I would say.” So when Robert Byrd “treasured” the Gadsen flag as inspiration to protest the Iraq war it was okay, but when American citizens use the same flag to protest massive government expansion, Matthews gets “scared.”

Lil Wayne Personally Thanks Nearly 100 Fans On Blog

Incarcerated Young Money boss expresses gratitude to followers for their thoughts, gifts, prayers on WeezyThanxYou.com. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lil Wayne posted the third letter to his fans on his website, WeezyThanxYou.com on Monday (June 28). The post follows Weezy’s Mother’s Day letter written last month and and initial note in April written when he first launched the site from prison to communicate with fans. In the new message, Wayne writes that he hopes his fans are enjoying their summer and profusely thanked everyone for their support, from the pictures he’s received to all the letters sent to him at the Eric M. Taylor detention center at New York’s Rikers Island. The rapper only gave a short update about his life behind bars, saying he was doing well. “On my end, I’m alive, breathing and blessed,” Wayne wrote. “You already know how I’m passing time — reading and working out.” The Young Money boss also gave a shout-out to his artists and said the collective had made him proud the night before, as both Drake and Nicki Minaj scored hardware Sunday night at the 2010 BET Awards . Wayne then went on to personally thank nearly 100 supporters who’ve written him letters of encouragement, responding to individuals, including Karla Moy, who runs Drake’s official fan website and Vanessa Satten, the editor of XXL magazine. “First, I thank you for your thoughts and prayers,” he wrote to followers Ashley and Lil Mackenzie. “I would also like you to know that your letter touched my heart. I wasn’t able to keep the wristbands but thank you anyway. Gudda and I send our deepest love to you and Lil Mack.” “Cool middle name,” Wayne told Kyle Rockin McLaughlin. “And I’ll be in W. Palm one day. Hope you’re there.” The rapper is almost halfway through his prison term and appears to be ready to get back to his career, as he told Satten he hopes to grace the cover of the magazine again soon; earlier this month the Cash Money Records superstar recorded a verse from prison for a remix of Drake’s “Light Up.” “Thank you for the love and I can’t wait to be on the cover again,” Wayne wrote. Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami (and Chicago), Scott Gets Wasted

Wow. What an amazing coincidence: the same week E! airs an episode of Kourtney and Khloe Takes Miami that focuses on Scott Disick being a pathetic drunk, that loser happens to get in a filmed fight with his neighbor . It’s almost as if the marketing team planned it that way! Below, a THG intern offers up her thoughts on this week’s installment of the most scripted show on television… It’s weird that Kourtney said she doesn’t go to clubs when she’s photographed at them ALL THE TIME and was at one two episodes ago.

Prince Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award At BET Awards

Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Patti LaBelle and more performed spirited renditions of the icon’s classics during tribute. By Rochell Thomas Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The artist who will forever be known as Prince took the stage on Sunday to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 10th annual BET Awards . “I was pretty wild in my younger days,” the honoree said. BET’s award presentation for Prince united generations and musical styles. Janelle Monae opened the tribute with an energetic cover of “Let’s Go Crazy,” a song that hit big a year before the 25-year-old was born. Next Up: jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding, strumming a custom electric upright bass, sang “If I Was Your Girlfriend.” She was followed by five-months-pregnant Alicia Keys, who played the piano then climbed atop it to provocatively belt out “Adore.” R&B diva Patti LaBelle closed out with the classic “Purple Rain” before Chaka Khan joined her onstage to introduce the man himself. Wearing a flowing, silk pajama-like ensemble bearing the symbol that replaced his name for a time, Prince approached the mic, looking just a bit older, calmer and more subdued than his sex-fueled “When Doves Cry” days. “You don’t have to do what I did. You don’t have to make any of the mistakes I made,” he advised fellow musicians in the audience. Earlier in the show, R&B heartthrob Trey Songz performed his own tribute to Prince, covering “Purple Rain” during his set. The singer then waxed patriotic. “The future’s in your hands now and the world is really yours,” he said. “There is a change in America that’s going on right now. Everybody can feel it. We’re going to be a beacon to the rest of the world.” As known for his groundbreaking music as he is for his raunchy performances, Prince went through a religious conversion a few years ago and appeared humble tonight, soft-spoken even, a contrast to his earlier tendency to come off as eccentric and aloof. He thanked all of the performers who led his tribute as well as top BET executives Debra Lee and Stephen Hill. “Thank you so much Debra Lee and Stephen Hill for a wonderful night tonight,” he said. “I’ll never forget it for as long as he live.” Then he turned and walked offstage with his arms around LaBelle and Chaka Khan, both of whom are have previously been honored with the award. Sir Paul Compares Global Warming Skeptics to Holocaust Deniers – Says of Obama, "I Really Love Him"

Seems the only thing gushing more than the BP oil spill these days is the disaster brewing in Paul McCartney’s mouth.  In an exclusive interview with The Sun , McCartney takes a major swipe at global warming realists, er, deniers, by stating (emphasis mine): “Sadly we need disasters like this to show people. Some people don’t believe in climate warming – like those who don’t believe there was a Holocaust.” Well that’s putting things in perspective.  I’m not sure global warming has been proven to have caused the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion.  Missed that report.  Regardless, it remains unclear how the theory of global warming is in any way similar to the reality of the Holocaust. McCartney goes on to defend President Obama from any and all criticism concerning the Gulf disaster, culminating with the revelation that he “really love(s) him.” Because nobody was really sure where your allegiances lied after the ‘library’ swipe at former President Bush, Paul. McCartney starts with a blanket dismissal of the Obama critics: “I don’t accept the criticism of Barack over the oil spill.” He continues, “If the President of the country you spilled oil in tells you off then you’ve just got to take it or say, ‘I’m really sorry, we’ll clean it up and pay for it all by next week.” Now I ask, why didn’t BP think of that in the first place?  All of these failed attempts and confusion in trying to ‘plug the damn hole’, and all Tony Hayward had to do to make things right was say, “I’m really sorry, we’ll clean it up and pay for it all by next week.” Of his recent visit to the White House, McCartney recalls, “It was such an honour. I’d heard of the prize – it’s the biggest for popular music in the US. When the President gave it to me, I was so touched. I’m a huge Obama supporter. I really love him.” He also gushes, “I think Obama’s doing great. He’s a smart guy.” I’m not sure what it is, but McCartney is clearly smitten with our ‘smart guy’ President.  Perhaps it was his spelling of the University of ‘Sycacuse’ .  Perhaps it was his over-estimation of a tornado death toll by roughly 9,988.  Maybe it was his firm grasp of geography .  Or his love of Sioux City . No word on whether it was true that Sir Paul went on to say, “He had me at 57 states .” Based on these comments it is clear that, as The Sun interview states, McCartney has been spending too much time sitting in “a darkened room lit only by scented candles … to gather his thoughts.” Clearly the gathering isn’t working.  To be fair though, even the Dutch skimmers would have a tough time reigning in those thoughts. – Send comments or tips to rustyweiss@verizon.net .
