Grand Opening, Grand Closing: Oprah Pulls The Plug On Rosie O’Donnell’s Talk Show From The OWN Network

Not even a Houston Family interview could save Rosie’s lil show, damn HARPO! That was fast. Just five months after it premiered amid great fanfare, The Rosie Show has been canceled by OWN, Oprah Winfrey’s ratings-challenged cable net. In a statement she released Friday night, Oprah said, “I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day. As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.” The final episode will tape March 20 and air March 30. Rosie O’Donnell had relocated to Chicago to tape her show in the same studio where Oprah had become a legend. The magic didn’t wear off. The show had only about 200,000 viewers when the plug was pulled. “It was a great year for me — I wish the show was able to attract more viewers — but it did not,” O’Donnell said. “So I am headed back to my home in New York – with gratitude. On we go!” Should Oprah just call it quits for OWN and take her “L” before she plays herself any further??? via RadarOnline More On Bossip! Must Be Nice: Barack Obama’s Baller Buddies Tyler Perry And Oprah Help Him Raise $5 Milli In ATL And Chi-Town

It really pays to have friends in high places. Just ask President Obama , who raised several million dollars during campaign stops in Illinois and Georgia Friday with help from celebrity friends Oprah and Tyler Perry. President Barack Obama, turning full attention to his re-election campaign, aimed to raise more than $5 million today with fundraisers in his adopted hometown of Chicago and then Atlanta, where Oprah Winfrey joined with other wealthy donors. Obama arrived in Chicago as two of the Republicans who want to challenge him in November, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, also had Illinois campaign events before the state’s March 20 presidential primary. His stops included dinner for about 40 people, including Winfrey, at the home of actor and film producer Tyler Perry. There, Obama said of his presidency: “This is not a three-year project. This is an eight-year project,” prompting applause. The first of Obama’s five stops was at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago, where about 600 people paid $2,500 a piece to watch the campaign film and listen to the president. Without naming his would-be opponents, Obama said the state has “guests this week,” referring to the campaigning leading up to the primary. “Welcome to the Land of Lincoln,” Obama said. Taking an indirect dig at his rivals, he said that he hoped “maybe some Lincoln will rub off on them while they are here,” and told the audience to prepare for “an avalanche of attack ads.” The state’s Republican Party chairman, Pat Brady, criticized Obama for concentrating on his campaign. “After three years of failed policies, broken promises and a seemingly endless supply of empty rhetoric, it is abundantly clear that President Obama has given up on governing and is only concerned about campaigning to save his own job,” Brady said in an e-mailed statement. After the speech, the president held a closed discussion with about 60 supporters who donated at least $10,000 each. In Atlanta, Obama began his fundraising at a private residence where 75 people paid $10,000 each to attend. He then greeted 1,000 supporters at Perry’s studios, an event that included a musical performance by Cee Lo Green. Most of the tickets started at $500 with a smaller number sold at $250, according to the campaign. At the first Atlanta stop, Obama jabbed at the Republicans. “Their basic vision is, ‘You know what? I’ve got mine,’” he said. “And that’s why the other side really doesn’t talk about issues.” Obama capped the day at Perry’s house. Tickets to that cost $35,800. Perry gave $30,400 on May 30, 2009, to the Democratic National Committee and $4,600 Sept. 12, 2007, to Obama’s first presidential campaign, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks contributions. The money raised today goes to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint account for the president’s campaign organization and the Democratic National Committee. Obama raised $140 million for his re-election campaign through the end of January, Federal Election Commission reports show. Looks like the Obama 2012 campaign is on and poppin’. Sacha Baron Cohen’s Dictator Spills Ashes On Ryan Seacrest At Oscars

Republic of Wadiya’s leader was armed with an urn purportedly containing ashes of Kim Jong Il on Sunday night. By Kevin P. Sullivan “The Dictator” arrives at the 2012 Oscars Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images True to his word and the threats he made on live television, Sacha Baron Cohen arrived on the red carpet for the 2012 Oscars in character as General Aladeen, the leader from his upcoming movie “The Dictator.” But appearing as the Dictator was just the beginning. Once he hit the carpet, Baron Cohen made as big a scene as many imagined he would as Ryan Seacrest became the unwitting victim of the actor’s publicity stunt. Armed with an urn supposedly containing the ashes of North Korea’s Kim Jong Il, Baron Cohen spilled the powdery contents of the container all over the E! host and his tuxedo. It was the final moment in a long battle of the wills with the Academy, which Baron Cohen ultimately won , resulting in his appearance in character as the ruler of the fictional nation, the Republic of Wadiya, flanked by his female security entourage. The appearance came after a long, public battle between the producers of the show and Baron Cohen, who was initially invited because of his involvement in Best Picture nominee “Hugo.” Word soon leaked out that Baron Cohen planned to walk the carpet in costume to promote his new film. It wasn’t long before the Academy pulled his tickets in an attempt to discourage his turning the red carpet into a self-promotional platform. Soon after the ban, Baron Cohen went on the offensive, releasing a statement in character and threatening the Academy if his tickets were not honored. “While I applaud the Academy for taking away my right to free speech, I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 p.m. on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences.” Luckily for the Academy, they allowed Baron Cohen to walk the carpet in his large hair, beard and military garb. Not long after the reversal on the decision, Oscar 2012 producer Brian Grazer told “Extra” that he was excited for Baron Cohen’s appearance. “We’re thrilled to have him and he’ll be on the red carpet, I guess, dressed as the Dictator,” he said. Sacha Baron Cohen Addresses Oscar Ban In ‘Dictator’ Character

Admiral General Shabazz Aladeen issues ultimatum, promises ‘unimaginable consequences’ if Academy refuses to lift ban. By John Mitchell Sacha Baron Cohen in “The Dictator” Photo: Paramount Sacha Baron Cohen finally addressed the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ decision to ban him from attending Sunday’s Oscars , releasing a video and calling in to “Today” as Admiral General Shabazz Aladeen, his character in the upcoming film “The Dictator,” to promise “unimaginable consequences” if he is not permitted to attend. Baron Cohen was initially invited to the Oscars because he appears in one of this year’s Best Picture nominees, Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo.” The actor’s in-character appearance was intended to generate publicity for the film, a tactic with which the Academy apparently took issue. Purists believe such promotion is inappropriate, as the Academy hasn’t even allowed advertisements for films to run during the Oscar telecast until this year. “Good morning, great Satan of America. How are you? I am fine, thank you. On behalf of the nation of Wadiya, I am outraged at being banned from the Oscars by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Zionists,” Gen. Aladeen said in a video address posted to the Republic of Wadiya website . “While I applaud the Academy for taking away my right to free speech, I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 p.m. on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences. … On top of all of this, I paid Hilary Swank $2 million to be my date and she will not refund a penny. My Sunday calendar is now as empty as a North Korean grocery store. “But whatever happens, I still plan to attend director Brett Ratner’s afterparty, since it is impossible to catch herpes twice,” he continued. “Death to the West. And good luck, Billy Crystal. You’re fantastic.” At the video’s conclusion, in a likely statement on what Baron Cohen believes inspired the Academy to ban him from attending in character, he concludes the video by saying, “How was that? Did I sound crazy enough?” This morning, during a call-in interview on “Today,” Cohen-as-Aladeen declared, “Normally I would be impressed by an act of cowardice by a faceless regime. But this is personal.” This isn’t the first time Baron Cohen has been shunned by the Academy after declaring his intention to show up in character. In 2007, Baron Cohen was asked to be a presenter but said he would do it only if he could be in character as Borat, the fictitious Kazakh journalist he played in the blockbuster film of the same name. Oscar execs said no, and Baron Cohen did not attend the awards — though he was not officially banned from attending the ceremony. The actor also appeared in character as Br

Michael Bay Will Reboot Transformers 4 for 2014

Speaking with MTV, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed general details on a fourth planned movie in Paramount’s Oscar-nominated Transformers series, which will indeed see Michael Bay returning behind the camera. (First, however, he may finally shoot his bodybuilding crime pic Pain & Gain .) Though it’s expected we’ll see main robot characters like Optimus Prime return, summer of 2014’s Transformers 4 — Trans4mers ? Tr4nsformers ? — will be a reboot, di Lorenzo says, because of course we need a Transformers reboot already. Of course. [ MTV ]

Watch Taylor Swift’s Hunger Games Music Video: ‘Safe & Sound’

When I first heard Taylor Swift ‘s Hunger Games soundtrack single, the twangy country ballad “Safe & Sound,” I wasn’t so keen on how Swifty channeled teen heroine Katniss Everdeen, T-Bone Burnett’s support or no. (I did, however, dig the gentle melodics of country folk duo The Civil Wars, who back Swift on the song and share songwriting credits with her and Burnett.) Now the music video for the single has debuted, a dreamy nature-themed joint that lovingly follows Swift as she traipses barefoot around the woods sharing meaningful glances with deer and twigs. While “Safe & Sound” has grown on me as a song, I still can’t totally sign off on Swift as a Katniss figure (the lyrics are inspired by Suzanne Collins’ book, and suggest the inner life of Katniss as she leaves her family behind in District 12 to fight in the Games). But Swift is lovely to look at, even if this video could easily be passed off as an Anthropologie ad or, you know, a tribute to Cold Mountain . The backdrop is a nice nod to Katniss’s imagined home in the region otherwise known as the Appalachians, where District 12 has been delineated in the nation of Panem in The Hunger Games trilogy. And, look! Swift finds a mockingjay pin in her disheveled country cabin! I’d have loved to have seen Swift pick up a bow and arrow and go hunt down that deer, or hide from intruders in the dirt, or wrassle with a gang of murderous youngsters, but I get it. She’s Taylor Swift. She is pristine in her white muslin dress, warbling beautiful melodies all alone in her thoughtful solitude. She is more Primrose than Katniss. Meanwhile, the shortest stick drawn goes to Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, who’s stuck playing third fiddle to Swift. For a full minute I thought she was playing Katniss’s near-catatonic mother. Anyways, check it out below and tell us what you think – an appropriate accompaniment to the March 23 pic? My name is Aleexe, I’m 19 and I come from Paris, France. I…

My name is Aleexe, I’m 19 and I come from Paris, France . I saw Justin a lot of times at the beginning of his career. I even had a chance to meet him in February 2010 during his second visit in France. So it’s been two years, I expected to review the kidrauhl we met.  It is not easy to see him since last year, so I thought that I had come down to the South of France for his appearance at The NRJ Music Awards, January 28 , and I’m glad I did!  We were five friends, we waited for his arrival at Cannes, and then when we knew he took the back door. We quickly realized we wouldn’t be able to see him. We were quickly discouraged.  But after a few hours in the cold, we decided to warm ourselves up and we knew we were there for him, we didn’t do 6 hours by train for nothing. Then we returned outside, but this time we waited at the back door of the hotel. After two hours, he emerged by a simple door. He was in front of us, we didn’t dare to speak, we were actually quite shocked. He approached us and we shook hands. It was unbelievable because he was late by more than an hour, then we just wished him good luck for the ceremony, where he also won a prize, then let him go.   Five minutes later we thought, “Damn, we were with Justin Bieber, and we forgot to ask him a picture!”  Two hours later, we went back to our hotel to watch the ceremony on the TV, and we said, “When they talk about Justin, we go straight to his hotel” That’s what we did, but Justin didn’t come to see us, so we went back to our hotel, and returned the next morning.  It was ten o’clock, when he pointed his nose outside, in a t-shirt. It was 6 degrees. I was so shocked, I asked him if he was not too cold.  We spoke together for a good ten minutes, we talked about his next visit to France, his weekend in France, which was short, but he loved it, we took pictures and then let him go to his car.   We waited for the car to pass in front of us, to leave.  I waited two years to meet the Kidrauhl I knew, and I was not disappointed.  We often say that he changes, but in the end he is the same boy as before, always smiling, always funny.   I didn’t believe in that famous sentence, “Never say never”, but I know now that this sentence makes sense!
