“Considering the vivid 3D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch and thus interrupt other people’s viewing. To avoid potential conflicts between viewers and out of consideration of building a harmonious ethical social environment, we’ve decided to cut off the nudity scenes.” I presume this means Piranha 3DD can count the Chinese market out. Kate Winslet ‘s chest icebergs were restored for Titanic 3D ‘s Indian release, but censors in China are now denying viewers in their country the same, uhm, release. The skinfamous scene where Kate instructs Leonardo DiCaprio to “draw me like one of your French girls” has been cut from Titanic 3D on the orders of China’s State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, who justified their decision in a statement: “Considering the vivid 3D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch and thus interrupt other people’s viewing. To avoid potential conflicts between viewers and out of consideration of building a harmonious ethical social environment, we’ve decided to cut off the nudity scenes.” So if you ever find yourself in a Chinese movie theater, don’t reach out and touch someone. But the real irony here is that the nude scene was included when the original Titanic played Chinese theaters in 1997. 2D boobs? Ok by China. 3D boobs? Not so much. Kate Winslet ‘s watermelons are hot, but they’re not hot enough to melt an iceberg, a lesson that was oh-so tragically learned in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic . But over a billion people worldwide were denied the opportunity to fully (and we do mean fully) learn this lesson: the SKINfamous scene where Kate poses for a nude portrait (above) was cut from the Indian release of Titanic. But now censors in India are doing the right thing by approving Titanic 3D , complete with nudity, for screenings in theaters all across the subcontinent. Social progress? Maybe. Great rack? Definitely. So enjoy, men (and 13-year-old boys) of India…and trust us, you will. Check out more from Mr. Skin Hall of Famer Kate Winslet right here at MrSkin.com
This just in at ML HQ: Esteemed Mad Men creator and occasional director Matthew Weiner will make his feature filmmaking debut with You Are Here , to co-star Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis in a “funny, charming, and deeply honest film about who we were, who we are, and discovering the power to embrace life, no matter how much you screw it up.” There is also a road trip! Once there, Ben is shocked to learn that his eccentric father had big plans for him and he’s inherited a whole lot more than his father’s money. As Ben struggles with his new responsibilities, his friendship with Steve is tested by the complications of his inheritance, his sister Terry’s (Poehler) ambition, and Steve’s desire to be with his father’s beautiful young widow Angela. YOU ARE HERE is a funny, charming, and deeply honest film about who we were, who we are, and discovering the power to embrace life, no matter how much you screw it up. “This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” said Weiner. “I can’t wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about and I’m tired of reading it out loud to my friends.” Noted Gilbert: “We are thrilled to finally bring this project to the screen. Matt is one of the brightest creative minds in television, and we are confident that this project will solidify the same reputation for him in the world of narrative film.” ###
Browsing through the photo record of Tuesday’s Titanic 3D premiere in London, one notices immediately the absence of Leonardo DiCaprio. What gives? I mean, if Billy Zane can make time, then lord knows Leo should be able to drop in for at least a few snapshots with James Cameron and co-star Kate Winslet. At the very least, he’d better have a good excuse — which, according to Cameron, he did. Speaking to reporters on the red carpet, the filmmaker/ deep-sea habitué explained that DiCaprio was busy shooting Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained , and thus unavailable to travel. But that wasn’t all: “I didn’t show him the whole film but I showed him 18 minutes of it a few months ago,” Cameron continued, “It was a good reunion for us but great to watch his reaction. He couldn’t believe it. He said to me, ‘I’m such a young punk. Look at me.’ He was practically crawling under the seat. It was a good moment.” I can only presume this was the same clip package Cameron showed Movieline , which wasn’t that bad. Winslet, meanwhile, said she would seek similar refuge — from her nude scenes in particular: “I’m not going to look. I’ll be in the bar by that point or on the floor. I haven’t seen the whole film in a very long time, I’ve seen little pieces of it, but it’s a whole different me and we look much younger and our acting was different, hopefully not as good as now.” Never let go, babe. Now someone tell us where Kathy Bates was. [ OK! via Yahoo! , Metro ; photo via Daily Mail ] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
In a milestone of human civilization right up there with landing on the moon and eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes , James Cameron reached the deepest point on the planet on Sunday — the Mariana Trench, nearly seven miles below the surface of the Pacific. Naturally, upon reaching bottom, he did what any record-setting blockbuster deep-sea diver would do: Tweeted. Just arrived at the ocean’s deepest pt. Hitting bottom never felt so good. Can’t wait to share what I’m seeing w/ you @ DeepChallenge — James Cameron (@JimCameron) March 25, 2012 Back from trip to deepest pl on Earth – #oceans hadal zone.Puts a new spin on “to hell and back”. Good to see the sunshine. #deepseachallenge — James Cameron (@JimCameron) March 26, 2012 It wasn’t all good, according to a report today from Cameron’s partners at National Geographic: The expedition was designed so that Cameron could spend up to six hours collecting samples and video at the bottom of the trench. But his mission was cut short due in part to a hydraulic fluid leak that coated the window of the sub’s “pilot sphere,” obscuring his view. “I lost hydraulics toward the latter part of dive, and I was unable to use the manipulator arm,” Cameron said this morning Considering the daunting task of sending humans into the deep, such technical glitches are to be expected, Cameron emphasized: “It’s a prototype vehicle, so it’s gonna take time to iron out the bugs.” And even with the hydraulic leak obscuring the explorer’s vision, word has it that the ocean floor looked better than Titanic 3D . Piranha 3D may have pumped $18 million into the economy around Lake Havasu, Arizona, but it also appears to have made very stupid tourists very scared. “One woman was bringing up to me that the movie was coming out, and she asked – as serious as serious can be – ‘Oh, but are there still piranha in the lake?'” one local resort owner told the LAT . “At first, I kind of took it as a joke. But then I let her know that that’s the computer-generated part of the movie. And she was very relieved, saying, ‘Oh, I’m so glad to hear that.'” I’ve been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of a response that obviously doesn’t exist, so… moving on, I think. [ LAT ]
Last Thursday, I had a lengthy, terrific interview with James Cameron in advance of the special edition of Avatar (rereleased to theaters August 27), and all this week, Movieline will bring you pieces of that wide-ranging talk. Though it’s looking very likely that James Cameron might set up a pair of back-to-back Avatar sequels as his next project, there are still a couple of other items on his slate clamoring for his attention. In fact, there’s only one Cameron-directed film that’s actually on the books: the Titanic rerelease, coming out in April of 2012. Since Cameron has inserted several new minutes into his Avatar special edition, can we expect Titanic to feature a similar handful of never-before-seen scenes?
