Retail Sales Drop Stirs Fears

In the first drop since last September, U.S. retailers have unexpectedly reported a decrease in sales, stirring perennial fears that the much-discussed road to economic recovery isn’t as on track as once believed. —JCL Reuters: Sales at retailers unexpectedly fell in May for the first time since September following a record slump in purchases of building materials, adding to fears the economic recovery was losing some steam. Friday’s report follows last week’s data showing a sharp slowdown in private hiring in May, but analysts still saw little risk of the economy slipping back into recession. “The report is not evidence that the economy is getting ready for a double-dip or that consumers, facing headwinds of double-digit unemployment and bank credit restriction, are taking their ball and going home,” said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo/Mitsubishi in New York. Total retail sales dropped 1.2 percent after rising 0.6 percent in April, the Commerce Department said. Japanese Scientists Create Touchable Holograms

Researchers at Tokyo University have come up with a technology that is a first and significant step away from the mouse and keyboard – touchable holograms. [Hiroyuki Shinoda, Professor, Tokyo University]: “Up until now, holography has been for the eyes only, and if you'd try to touch it, your hand would go right through. But now we have a technology that also adds the sensation of touch to holograms.” The technology consists of software that uses ultrasonic waves to create pressure on the hand of a user “touching” the projected hologram. Researchers are using two Wiimotes from Nintendo’s Wii gaming system to track a user’s hand. The technology was introduced at SIGGRAPH, an annual computer graphics conference, and has so far only been tested with relatively simple objects. But its inventors have big plans for touchable holograms in the future. added by: Darevalo

I’d rather die onstage with all my fans,” she said, then belted the last few words of the song with fire coming out of her piano before lying down on her the bench dramatically. Recently, both Ryan Tedder and Janet Jackson have noted that while Gaga has certainly made a name for herself as an incredible performer and pop artist, they also have said that she might need to slow down a little bit before she burns herself out. Do you think Lady Gaga is working too hard, or is she just doing what she loves? Talk about it in the comments.
