The experience is made all the more pleasurable when it’s in the service of honoring filmmaker Martin Scorsese . Such was the case at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Thursday (January 12) when Scorsese was selected as the Music + Film honoree. After a scorching montage that touched on not only his feature films but his excellent work in musical documentaries — from the Band’s “Last Waltz” to the Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light” — Dylan took the stage to perform “Blind Willie McTell,” a tune included in Scorsese’s PBS documentary series “The Blues.” The two artists’ connection goes back further though, back to the 2005 doc “No Direction Home,” which follows Dylan through his musical and cultural development in the 1960s. After an introduction by Leonardo DiCaprio, Scorsese took the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech about how music first impacted his life and how it has influenced his cinematic work. “Such a great honor and an amazing performance by the great one, Bob Dylan,” he began. “This award has a very special significance to me, so I’d like to begin with a special thank-you to Django Reinhardt, St

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert scheduled to perform ‘America The Beautiful.’ By James Dinh Kelly Clarkson Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Kelly Clarkson will trail the footsteps of a string of big-voiced divas before her when she kicks off Super Bowl XLVI belting out the national anthem, according to The Associated Press. The announcement was expected to be made later this month, but a source close to the AP broke the news on Wednesday night (January 11). Country couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are also set to serve as entertainment when they perform “America The Beautiful” during the pre-game rounds. And, of course, Madonna will make her much-talked-about comeback when she rocks Lucas Oil Stadium as the championship game’s halftime show performer. The pop queen, who just announced the title of her 12th studio album, M.D.N.A. , will perform her new single “Gimme all Your Luvin” in a performance that will be “imagined” by Cirque du Soleil and her longtime creative director Jamie King. Clarkson is no stranger to national TV exposure. Just this past weekend, the pop songstress wrapped up another big gig as musical guest for “Saturday Night Live.” Marking her third appearance on the iconic sketch comedy show, the singer performed her new hits “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Mr. Know It All.” MTV News caught up with the original “American Idol” champion, who gushed about the “SNL” cast. “It’s a fun environment. You don’t feel like you’re working,” she admitted. “This is like a family place. Everybody here is nice to people who aren’t famous. You know what I’m saying? They’re nice to my makeup artist, my hair guy … I hate people who are just nice to famous people. It bothers me. I want to kick ’em.” Are you excited to see Kelly perform the patriotic tune at this year’s Super Bowl? Tell us in the comments below. Hate Me Now: The Roots Drummer ?uestLove Says He Has Received Angry Racist Tweets By Those Tea Party Nuts Defending Michele Bachmann’s Honor

We don’t see what the big deal is, she’s a liar isn’t she??? Questlove isn’t laughing anymore. The bandleader who chose to play Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass B—-” as Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachman took the stage on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last week says the joke wasn’t worth all the backlash. The musician says he’s received a slew of hate messages and racial epithets from Bachmann supporters and Tea Party members since leading house band The Roots to play the snarky song that introduced the Minnesota Congresswoman onto the show. “I’ve seen some really colorful epithets in the past four days,” he told Pitchfork. “Blocking 3,500 tea party extremists in a three day period is no fun, especially when you’re a drummer dangerously close to carpal tunnel,” he went on. “In the end, was it worth it? Absolutely not.” Questlove said he never thought the song would cause so much reaction. “It wasn’t like a chess move where you have to think 12 steps ahead,” he said. “You’re just, like, ‘F—, all right, I’m gonna do it,’ in a kamikaze-type way. And I really didn’t think about how it could be perceived as a misogynist swipe – it didn’t hit me until my [Twitter] timeline started showing up that it was seen that way.” The afro’ed drummer went on to say: “It deeply offended a lot of women’s groups and non-Bachmann supporters, and for that I’m deeply sorry,” he told Pitchfork. “I’m not parading like I’m the poster boy for the feminist movement, but those who truly know me know that that’s not me. I was really just going with her whole revisionist history angle, I wasn’t calling her out on being a woman.” Man, eff that lyin’ a$$ beyotch!!! ‘We’re loving every single minute of it,’ Welsh rockers tell MTV News of playing large venues. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker The Joy Formidable Photo: Getty Images Shortly before Welsh rock band the Joy Formidable took the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden to open for the Foo Fighters earlier this month, they sat down with MTV News to discuss what a great experience the tour has been for them. “It’s such a delight being on tour with the Foos and Social Distortion,” lead singer Ritzy Bryan said, giving a shout-out to the tour’s other opening act. “The Foos heard a track of ours on the radio and really liked it,” she explained of how they came to be on the tour. “It just happened really naturally, you know, picking up on a band, supporting new music. [They] invited us on tour on the back of that. “It’s very surreal,” she added. “We’ve been playing some really big venues.” Though the band is accustomed to playing larger venues back in the U.K., all three members, including bassist Rhydian Dafydd and drummer Matt Thomas, agree that playing Madison Square Garden really means something special. “When you talk to people about Madison Square Garden back on home soil, it’s like, ‘Wow, what an iconic venue,’ ” Dafydd weighed in with a big smile. The already chipper musicians all lit up even more when we asked them what’s next for them. “We’re very, very busy now writing our next record,” Bryan said. “[We’re] just losing ourselves in that at the moment. We’re very, very happy to be here and loving every single minute of it.” The Joy Formidable are currently headlining their own leg of a North American tour. Visit their website for dates. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs on “X Factor” UK Photo: itv Lady Gaga lost her head on Sunday night when she took the stage on “X Factor UK” to perform “Marry the Night.” Gaga, decked out in a gown that made her appear headless, emerged from a crypt as torches burned around the stage. Her dancers did most of the heavy lifting in the movement department, while Gaga let all the action happen around her, standing in the middle of the stage donning the unusual costume. As the song closed out, Gaga went back in the box and came back out in just a black bodysuit, finally getting in on the dancing for the gothic performance of the Born This Way track, an ode to her hometown of New York. After the performance, Gaga confirmed that she was deep into the planning stages for her next tour. “I’m gonna be here [in Britain] next year for my next tour. I just finished designing the stage and it’s bigger and better than ever,” she said on the show. “I’m so happy. I can’t wait to see you all there.” In addition to tour plans, Gaga took to Twitter to confirm that she’s near completion on two upcoming projects, her video for “Marry the Night” as well as her forthcoming Thanksgiving special . “Been up all night editing my first TWO films as director!” she wrote. “Marry The Night Video + ‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving’ the 2nd airing on thanksgiving!” She teased the “Marry the Night” clip last night in a still photograph, in which she appeared to be rolled down a hallway on a gurney. Gaga made other headlines Monday (November 14) when it was announced that she had split from longtime creative director Laurieann Gibson . MTV News confirmed the split between the longtime collaborators. The singer noted on Twitter that she is now working with Gibson’s former #2, Richard Jackson.
