Drake And Rihanna’s ‘Take Care’ Teaser: Watch It Here!

The (musical) couple reunite in eagerly anticipated video to premiere Friday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV. By Rebecca Thomas Drake in his video for “Take Care” Photo: Universal The last time Drake and Rihanna got together, a quick grocery run for a carton of milk turned into a fun, romantic date over white wine in a sun-drenched Manhattan loft. The cross-genre couple is sharing the screen again, following up Rih’s “What’s My Name?” with the video for Drake’s “Take Care.” But trust us: The mood is different this time around. While you’ll have to wait until Friday at 7:56 p.m. ET for the eagerly anticipated MTV video premiere, MTV News has your exclusive preview! The black-and-white teaser opens with Drake, dressed casually in black tee and matching jeans, looking introspective as he spits the first verse of the moody title track: “I’ve asked about you and they’ve told me things/ But my mind didn’t change/ I still the feel the same, what’s/ A life with no fun, please don’t be so ashamed/ I’ve had mine, you’ve had yours, we both know.” As Drizzy raps, the (rather majestic) horns of an animal — an ox, a bull? — slide into the foreground, before Rihanna comes into the frame. Seen only in profile, the Elle magazine cover girl sports some sexy bedhead and a shoulder-baring sweater before those sweeping horns flash back once again. The 15-second preview closes with an expansive view of a snow-capped hillside, which seems to mirror what director Yoann Lemoine said fans could expect. “It pays tribute to nature,” he told MTV News in February. “When I listened to the track, I was seeing a landscape … involving animals and massive landscapes.” Lemoine added cryptically, “It’s not narrative at all, it involves animals.” Although we don’t actually see Drake and Rih together in the teaser, the director behind Katy Perry’s “Firework” said he wanted to play up the pair’s natural chemistry in the clip. “They seemed to be super close and that’s what I wanted for the video,” he explained. The title track from the Young Money star’s sophomore effort is a moody interpretation of Jamie xx’s own collaborative reimagining of the late poet Gil Scott-Heron’s incomparable “I’ll Take Care of You.” Drake’s go-to producer Noah “40” Shebib programmed the trance-like drums that kicks in after a dreamy hook from Rihanna, which is complemented by residual vocals from Scott-Heron’s track. When we asked the Toronto MC late last year what he had in mind for this video, he said only that he wanted to “make it perfect, like, the best video I’ve done to date, so just taking my time.” Sound off on the “Take Care” teaser in the comments or on our Facebook page! On The Music, Martial Art — and Muslim Hero — of Silat Actioner The Raid: Redemption

As a member of the Jakarta police force, Rama (Iko Uwais) is one of dozens of SWAT agents about to be trapped within the concrete walls of a tenement building run by a nefarious slumlord, set upon by machete-wielding thugs and forced to fight his way out using knives, broken doorways, and at times, only his bare hands. The fighting style he uses to do so, leaving a trail of broken baddies in his wake, is silat — a lightning-fast, bone-crunching Southeast Asian martial art that gets its best showcase in Gareth Evans’ festival sensation The Raid: Redemption . Welsh-born writer-director Evans didn’t necessarily set out to become the world’s pre-eminent silat action filmmaker, but with his 2009 feature Merantau and now The Raid he’s created a niche for himself while introducing the Western world to the rarely-seen discipline. His fascination with the form began when he was hired to film a documentary about silat, which introduced him to future collaborator, pencak silat practitioner, and Raid star Uwais. “As a kid I had watched kung fu movies and muy thai movies and karate movies, but I’d never seen silat before,” Evans told Movieline last week at SXSW , where The Raid screened ahead of its March 23 release. “When I finally got to see silat it knocked me on my ass, and I wanted my friends back home to be able to see it. I was hungry to be able to have a movie that I could take back to the U.K. — Friday night, a couple of beers, ‘Guys, you’ve got to see silat, it looks so fucking cool!’” The Raid isn’t the first silat action film, but few predecessors found an audience on par with the classic Hong Kong action films or mainstream martial arts hits. “There were films with silat made in the ‘70s and ‘80s in Indonesia but the choreography didn’t hold up in the same way that the choreography in Hong Kong has held up,” Evans explained. “You can’t compare those films to something like Drunken Master because they’re just so different in terms of style. And they added a lot of mysticism and were great as cult movies, but beyond that, not really. So I figured if I wanted to show them silat, I’d better go out and make a film.” With an unrelenting pace and inventive, dynamic fight scenes, The Raid is a near-constant assault on the senses that showcases the physical skills of stars and choreographers Uwais and Yayan Ruhian, not to mention Doni Alamsyah, former judo champ Joe Taslim, and what seems like hundreds of well-trained extras. After the film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival to uproarious acclaim, Sony Pictures Classics picked it up for distribution and two new, unconventional composers were brought onboard to give it a different feel: Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and TRON: Legacy orchestrator Joe Trapanese. (Screen Gems is developing an American remake with Evans executive producing; more on that here .) Evans screened the film for Shinoda and Trapanese and gave them carte blanche to create their accompanying electronic score, which they developed after settling on a few parameters – for example, no electric guitars. After watching the film, Shinoda went on tour to Asia and Trapanese headed to New York, both working from memory to create sounds that fit the version of the film and its highlights that they had in their heads. “I was working on my laptop in hotel rooms, in the car, on the plane,” Shinoda said. “I would throw these demos together, these ideas and sketches. Like, in my head I’m thinking, ‘There’s that one scene where the guys are doing this and this and this, and this is the kind of thing I remember it being like.’ Then other times it would be like, what kind of emotion don’t I have yet? What kind of theme is missing? When we came back we started laying all those things against picture and found that a good chunk of the stuff really worked.” Shinoda, who wanted to approach his work on The Raid as a score rather than a collection of songs layered over the film, contrasted writing with Trapanese to the creative process with Linkin Park. “I found it to actually be in many ways easier than writing stuff for a Linkin Park album because we tear our hair out,” he said. “When we’re writing a song for a Linkin Park album it can be very tedious, it takes a long, long time to get from a blank page to the final product, and in this case I’m working with a vision that is already realized. This is awesome — all I have to do is make sure I’m supporting in the best way.”

Tyga Associate Honey Cocaine Shot After Nebraska Concert

Toronto MC suffered minor wounds when a van she was traveling in took on gunfire after a show in downtown Omaha. By Rob Markman Honey Cocaine Photo: Taylor Hill/ FilmMagic Tyga ‘s careless world was hit with quite a bit of drama on Monday night following a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha police confirmed with MTV News that two members of Tyga’s entourage were shot and suffered minor wounds when a van that the Young Money rapper was traveling in took on gunfire after his show at the Sokol Auditorium in downtown. Tyga’s artist Honey Cocaine, real name Sochitla Sal, took to Twitter early Tuesday morning (March 20) and confirmed that she was one of the people shot. “Got shot and I’m not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod,” she wrote . The police report confirms that Honey was struck in the arm and was transported to Creighton University Medical Center. The second victim, Derrick Lowe, was grazed in his hip and refused treatment at the scene. The confrontation began while Tyga was onstage getting set to perform his hit single “Rack City,” the last song from his set. A group of concertgoers began to throw things onstage, which seemed to infuriate the rapper. Footage of the incident made its way to YouTube shortly after. In the clip, an enraged Tyga begins shouting, “Who threw it?” before urging the culprit to see him outside after the show. The police report cites a disturbance at the concert hall and states that Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they left the scene in their van. Police observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle, but no one was seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, police say. On February 29, Honey Cocaine joined Tyga when he appeared on ” RapFix Live ” and spit a verse for the camera. The Toronto MC also sat and chopped it up with Sway about her plans for the future with Tyga. “Me, I’m building,” she said. “We’re building together, but we both do our own thing.” Related Artists Tyga

The-Dream Takes Aim At Weeknd, Shuts It Down On Tour

Def Jam singer/producer blazed into New York City on Monday on his Kill the Lights Tour, igniting an R&B beef along the way. By Rebecca Thomas The-Dream Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images NEW YORK — When you think about it, it’s only fitting that Maybach Music MCs Wale, Meek Mill and Stalley held court on Monday night as The-Dream rocked the second of a two-night run at SOB’s. Among the ranks of R&B crooners, few have more rap swag than Mr. Terius Nash: From the Roc-A-Fella chain to the vintage throwback jerseys, the singer laced up, slinging NBA metaphors like any good rap star. Then, as if to solidify his credentials, he waded into an R&B beef with the Weekend . When Dream visited our “RapFix Live” late last month, the Love King told host Sway that he had no conflict with Drake’s enigmatic homey. “No, it’s not a beef record to the Weeknd,” The-Dream insisted after a fan tweeted asking about subliminals in his “Ghetto,” from his 1977 mixtape. Fans have been quick to draw comparisons between the Grammy winner and the upstart for their atmospheric singing and production styles. With destination blog Rap Radar hosting the proceedings, it was hard to believe the Georgia crooner hadn’t given the Weeknd a lyrical left-hook. “See I created this sound/ Yes, sir, I shut it down / There’s only one #1 / These other n—as are my sons,” he sang before the sound dropped out for an emphatic pause. The Toronto singer wasted no time, responding with a few Twitter lashes in the wee hours on Tuesday morning (March 13): “I was raised old fashioned, you get at me, i get at you… ain’t no sideways sh– about it.” The Weeknd wasn’t the only one who came under fire though on a balmy Monday night in NY. Dream opened with the beautifully layered kiss-off ” Wake Me When It’s Over,” widely perceived to be a missive aimed at his ex-wife, singer Christina Milian. “You knew it was over / I knew it was over,” he sang before alluding to tabloid pictures that showed the still-married Dream splashing on a beach with a lady friend back in 2010. When he wasn’t airing folks out, The-Dream kept at it, making the case for R&B, a genre pronounced dead more times than we care to count. The soft-spoken Def Jam artist alluded as well to his two-year hiatus from the stage, explaining that he was getting back on his square. He treated the room — filled with as many fellas as there were ladies — to standouts from 1977, including the addictive “Wedding Crasher” and “Used to Be.” If there was any complaint about the intimate show, it’s that an artist of Dream’s caliber is more than ready for backup singers over the backing tracks that sometimes threatened to overpower his vocals. After a wardrobe quick change from his Chicago Bulls ensemble, the newly trim Dream returned in a fitted leather and New York Knicks jersey combo. Launching into crowd faves like “Shawty Is a 10,” “Falsetto,” “Walking on the Moon” and “Fancy,” the singer showcased his Prince-inflected flow. A Kim Kardashian lookalike got a personal treat, as Dream pulled her onstage and grinded her through a … slow seduction. He didn’t hesitate to profess his love for the female anatomy either, in straight graphic terms. “I love makin’ records,” Dream told the crowd. But it’s getting to share them live that’s truly inspiring, he admitted before shutting it down with the ladies’ anthem “Rockin’ That Thang.” Share your reviews of The-Dream show in the comments or tweet us @MTVRapFix! Oscars 2012: How ‘The Artist’ Got To The Academy Awards

Buzz for the Oscar favorite began back at the 2011 Cannes film festival, and it’s been raking in award nominations ever since. By Kara Warner Jean Dujardin and Missi Pyle in “The Artist” Photo: The Weinstein Co. In a day and age where it seems as if everything and everyone in Hollywood is consumed by the latest and greatest cutting-edge technology, the fact that a black-and-white silent film set in the late 1920s/ early 1930s is dominating the Oscar conversation at the moment is surprising, to say the least. “The Artist” is a legitimate silent film — there is no dialogue! — that revolves around the relationship between George Valentin (Best Actor nominee Jean Dujardin ), a matinee idol in Hollywood before the dawn of talkies, and aspiring actress Peppy Miller (Best Supporting Actress nominee B

Kirko Bangz Plants His H-Town Flag On New Mixtape

‘A lot of people kinda taking our swag too; I just wanted to bring that back and take that back from them,’ Bangz tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Maurice Bobb Kirko Bangz Photo: Warner Bros. Mixtape Daily Main Pick Headliner : Kirko Bangz Representing : Houston Mixtape : Progression 2: A Young Texas Playa Real Spit : Kirko Bangz has been progressing quite nicely. Even before his breakout single “Drank in My Cup” began charting on the Billboard Hot 100, the Houston upstart was laying groundwork in H-Town’s mixtape scene. In 2009, he dropped the aptly titled Progression, and now, three years later, he has followed up with its sequel Progression 2: A Young Texas Playa on mixtape site Datpiff . In this new digital era, where most rap artists occupy the same space on the Internet, it seems that where a rapper hails from has become less important. Still, Bangz clearly is looking to put on for his city. “People were like, ‘Where you from?’ They thought I was from Cali, Atlanta, stuff like that. So really, with the mixtape and my last single ‘Drank in My Cup,’ I wanted people to know I was from H-Town,” Kirko told Mixtape Daily. “It’s real H-Town: We have stuff for the girls, of course, we got hip-hop stuff, we got storytelling stuff.” Progression 2 starts off with “Say Hello,” an introductory freestyle over DJ Khaled and Drake’s “I’m On One.” It’s not surprising that Kirko would jump on a track Drizzy has made famous, considering he has drawn more than a few comparisons to the Toronto rapper, thanks to his penchant for both rapping and singing. While Drake is openly inspired by Houston’s screw culture, Kirko truly embodies his city’s sonic characteristics on “Drank in My Cup.” The slow-rolling, lean-inspired cut repurposes Houston’s signature underground sound for radio; it debuted at #96 on Billboard ‘s Hot 100 this week. “A lot of people kinda taking our swag too. I just wanted to bring that back and take that back from them,” Bangz said, never naming who the swagger jackers actually are. On “Play Me,” KB takes on Drake’s “Trust Issues” and furthers the comparisons. Paul Wall reps for H-Town and shows up on “Knowmtalmbout,” and on “Trill Young N—a,” Kirk stakes his claim in the streets of his hometown. For the most part Progression 2 keeps a consistent vibe with a number of soul-dripped, screw-inspired anthems. He does switch things up however, particularly on towards the end on the hilarious story-telling joint “Ugly Bitches” where he recalls all of his less than glamorous sexual conquests. It’s not flawless, but over the course of 13 tracks, Kirko Bangz shows a pretty solid progression. Joints to Check For
