Exclusive Gallery: 13 Moments from 96 Minutes

Four lives, one fateful night — tensions run high in this April’s 96 Minutes , in which two college friends (Brittany Snow and Twilight ‘s Christian Serratos) clash with a pair of Atlanta teens (Evan Ross and J. Michael Trautmann) after a carjacking gone wrong. Filmmaker Aimee Lagos makes her feature debut with 96 Minutes following her award-winning short Underground , again examining what happens when class and social lines collide; after the jump, Lagos takes us through 13 moments from the shooting of her film. Filmed over the course of 18 days in Atlanta, GA, 96 Minutes debuted at SXSW and also stars David Oyelowo ( Rise of the Planet of the Apes , Red Tails , Lincoln ). Click here to launch the full gallery with captions from director Lagos. Lagos: “Evan Ross, who plays Dre in the film, is in the foreground here with Hosea Chanchez in the background playing the cop. This is a very poignant scene in the film taken right from what I saw happen everyday when I was working in the inner city. In this scene police officers accost Dre without provocation as he’s walking home from school – it’s a humiliating and demoralizing experience that too many young people have to deal with on a daily basis.” Lagos: “THE PORCH in Mechanicsville – one of my favorite locations in the film. Markice Kesan Moore, Pill, Jon Chaffin, Dale Neal and J.Michael Trautmann, hang out between takes of their funny if volatile scene where Kevin begs to join their street crew.” Lagos: “Brittany Snow (Carley) and Christian Serratos (Lena) rehearse a long walk and talk scene where the two girls bond after Carley rescues Lena from a potentially painful run in with her ex.” Lagos: “This is an incredibly intense and heart-rending scene between David Oyelowo (Duane) and Brittany Snow (Carley) that comes right at the climax of the film. It’s one of the most visually arresting scenes of the film shot by the incredibly talented Cinematographer, Michael Fimognari.” Click here for the full gallery . 96 Minutes debuts in theaters on April 27.

Take This Waltz Trailer: Michelle Williams’s Bizarre Love Triangle

We’re still nearly five months away from the midsummer release of Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz , but it’s never too soon to commence anticipating a new Michelle Williams film, or a muted Seth Rogen, or Sarah Silverman’s infamous full-frontal nudity , or… Actually, that’s all I’ve got ahead of this new trailer making the rounds. The love-triangle dramedy premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up soon afterward by Magnolia Pictures, which will release it June 29. The distributor’s own official trailer is no doubt forthcoming, but this market-style job should do the appetite-whetting trick just fine. [via TOH ]

My name is Hilary. I’m 19 years old and I’m from…

My name is Hilary. I’m 19 years old and I’m from Waterloo, Canada. My Bieber Experience was back in July 2009. I used to watch MuchOnDemand all the time and with it being so close to home, I decided to try and get my hands on some free tickets. I brought along my two friends Emily and Brett with me for the adventure. I made sure ahead of time that this live taping I was going to, DID feature Justin Bieber. Of course with it being only a month after his first single ‘One Time’ was released, there were plenty of fans! We got there at about 11:00am so we would have some time to just wonder around Toronto and wait in line. We stood outside in line for about 2 hours but finally made our way inside; only to find we that we had to continue waiting in line in a stair well for another couple hours. It came to about 3:00pm by the time we got inside. Sadly, there was near to no where to sit or stand. We ended up stuck in the back of the crowd where it was almost impossible to see anything happening. Finally, it was time to start the show. Justin walks in and the fans screams were so loud! Chaz and Ryan were also there standing off to the side. Justin did his live interview and at commercial breaks, would come and take pictures and sign stuff. There was a pathway down the middle of the room so he could go outside and meet fans out there too. One commercial break, he was walking through the middle, and luckily some nice boys moved over and helped me get a chance to meet Justin. Justin passed by me numerous times but I was determine to meet him. A girl across from me was trying to get his attention too. He was right about to get a picture with her, until I yelled out “JUSTIN!” and he came over to me instead. He leaned in for the picture with me. I was so gitty that I got to meet this new pop singer in real life. He was the first celebrity I’ve ever met and I can tell you, I will never forget that day! I have our picture posted in my school locker every year , it’s on my Facebook and it’s currently my Twitter picture! BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! Thank you Justin for reminding so many people that dreams can come true if you put your mind to it. Hope to meet you again soon so we can refresh our picture from 2009! Love you! -@foreverhilaryy   Go here to see the original: My name is Hilary. I’m 19 years old and I’m from…

I’m a 16 year old girl from South Carolina and I drove all…

I’m a 16 year old girl from South Carolina and I drove all the way up to Toronto, Canada to see Justin Bieber in concert! My name is Melissa and this story all started the day before the tickets went on sale. I saw Justin post a link on his Facebook saying the ‘top secret’ destination for his acoustic concert and I quickly started freaking out! I kept bugging my parents and they said if I got a tickets for my sister and I that we could go (which of course was highly unlikely)! So of course that was the only thing on my mind and I was freaking out! I knew it probably wouldn’t happen but never say never! So the day of (Sunday) I went to church, then went straight home and opened all 5 of our labtops to the Massey Hall webpage. Thirty minutes before the tickets went on sale I started to freak out. What if the website froze. What if my internet cut out. Then the minute the tickets went on sale I froze. “60 seconds until the page will be refreshed to look for tickets” or a similar message popped up. Then around 2:04 one labtop got 2 tickets!!  I started jumping up and down running around the kitchen. Then my younger sister’s computer got a ticket! OMG I WAS FREAKING OUT! We quickly bought them and like I was having a spaz attack! Fast forward to Tuesday at 2 in the morning!! I jumped out of bed and put the finishing touches in my suitcase. I checked 587638 times to make sure I had the confirmation number and passports! We went through SC, NC, VA, WV, PA, NY and then finally CANADA!!! We went to Niagara Falls but of course I was only thinking of Justin Bieber! We stayed in a little town called Grimsby and then the next day we drove to Toronto! We parked at the Eaton Center which was awesome and got our tickets! Then we walked around Toronto and went to the Air Canada Center just to look, where JB was at the time. Now I was really shaking. I drove 15 hours to see Justin Bieber! At 6:15pm I rushed inside the venue and waited in my seat! Around 8pm, Justin came on stage and I lost my cool. I was screaming, waving my arms and was probably looking like a crazed fan..but who wasn’t?!. Lets just say I was in awe the whole concert and it was the best day of my life! When he asked who came the farthest, someone mentioned Chicago, and JB was like “Wow, thats far”. I was literally jumping up and down screaming SOUTH CAROLINA, 15 HOURS!!!! I went to his concert in Greenville, SC and needless to say this was the best! Justin addressed us personally and it felt like I was the only one in the room . The best part was when he brought his sister on stage! She was so cute! After the concert was over, it finally hit me that I drove 15 hours to see Justin Bieber! Im shaking writing this right now because I still can’t believe I went! Just the whole experience and seeing all his Canadian fans was awesome! 15 hour drive in one day was so worth it to see Justin Bieber! I can’t wait for Believe to come out and experience another Bieber concert again even though it will have more than 2700 people. Thanks for running this website because I know it always brings a smile to my face! Even though I didn’t meet Justin then, it was still worth the drive! 15 hours can be long, but playing the Christmas CD in the car made the trip much shorter. -@ melissafai Read more from the original source: I’m a 16 year old girl from South Carolina and I drove all…

Bingham Ray, Indie Legend and Sundance Regular, Dead at 57

This is just terrible, terrible news: Former United Artists boss, October Films cofounder and recent appointee as S.F. Film Society executive director Bingham Ray has passed away following a series of strokes suffered while attending the Sundance Film Festival — an event from which his name and influence have been inseparable for more than two decades. He was 57. “It is with great sadness that the Sundance Institute acknowledges the passing of Bingham Ray, cherished independent film executive and most recently Executive Director of the San Francisco Film Society,” read a release just received at Movieline HQ. “On behalf of the independent film community here in Park City for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and elsewhere, we offer our support and condolences to his family. Bingham’s many contributions to this community and business are indelible, and his legacy will not be soon forgotten.” No kidding. Ray commenced his film career in 1981 as a manager and programmer at New York’s defunct Bleecker Street Cinema, co-founding October Films a decade later with Jeff Lipsky. Initially set up shop for the purpose of distributing Mike Leigh’s Life is Sweet , October eventually distributed such renowned ’90s indies as Secrets and Lies , Breaking the Waves , Lost Highway , The Apostle and Ruby in Paradise , the 1993 Sundance Grand Jury Winner that further reinforced the festival as one of the industry’s foremost movie markets. The company’s DNA survives today Focus Features, which evolved from a series of mergers between Universal, Vivendi, and other distributors in the late ’90s/early ’00s. Ray had since occupied top spots at United Artists (where he’d helped shepherd Bowling to Columbine No Man’s Land to Oscar wins) and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment before veering into consulting and teaching, ultimately taking over the SFFS last year after its executive director Graham Leggat succumbed to cancer. He had also worked recently as an advisor to digital distributor SnagFilms, the Film Society at Lincoln Center (which recently opened its first-run Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center) and as a professor at New York University. Late last week in Park City, word of Ray’s condition spread quickly. He was first hospitalized Thursday in Provo, Utah; on Friday, one of his daughters told TheWrap and Ray had suffered a second, “more serious” stroke. The festival announced his passing just after noon local time. Bingham Ray is survived by his wife, Nancy, son Nick, daughters Annabel and Becca, and sisters Susan Clair and Deb Pope. He was one of the true good guys — supportive, insightful, broad-minded, funny and utterly devoted to films and the artists who made them. He will be mourned, missed, cherished and remembered for a long time to come. R.I.P., Bing. [Photo: Getty Images]

Drake Wrestles Tiger, Wows Fans In South Africa

‘I went on a safari — I got tackled by a tiger!’ Drake tells MTV News of his recent trip overseas. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sam Hendrick Drake Photo: MTV News Drake ‘s Club Paradise Tour doesn’t kick off until next month, but that hasn’t stopped Drizzy from getting in some show dates. On Saturday, the Young Money soldier rocked the Bing Bar in Park City, Utah, during the Sundance Film Festival , and in December, he took a couple of dates in South Africa. During his trip, Drake learned not to underestimate his overseas fans and … to beware of tigers. “Africa was amazing, man. Africa was amazing because I went, like, OK, I’m gonna have to do Rihanna ‘What’s My Name,’ I’m gonna have to do ‘Bedrock,’ I’m gonna have to do ‘Every Girl,’ ” Drake told MTV News of his planned playlist. “I went out there and I did the music that I thought they wanted to hear and all they were screaming was, like, they wanted to hear Take Care. They wanted to hear the new stuff.” Of course, Drizzy has a ton of solo hits like “Best I Ever Had,” “Successful,” “Over” and “Find Your Love.” When you add in his high-powered collaborations with Rihanna, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, it all makes for a pretty impressive set list. Going into his African show dates, Drake didn’t even consider the impact that his material from the November-released Take Care would have on fans. “I started performing the new stuff and they knew it word for word,” he said. “It was incredible. It was like 5,000 people.” Apparently people aren’t the only ones to go crazy over the Toronto MC either: He has quite the effect on animals. “I went on a safari — I got tackled by a tiger!” he said. “It was crazy!” We bet! Yo Gotti Details Deep-Rooted Ties To Rick Ross, Drake

‘It’s always been the same, still till this day,’ MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ of friendship with Ross. By Rob Markman Yo Gotti Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Yo Gotti may have just released his major-label debut, but the Memphis, Tennessee MC has always gotten major level respect. With an independent grind that dates back to his 2000 album From da Dope Game 2 da Rap Game , Gotti has remained one of hip-hop’s most beloved underground artists. Needless to say, he’s built some key relationships along the way — one of them being with the biggest boss, Rick Ross . “Ross is like a big brother,” Gotti said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” . “I met Ross when [“Hustlin’ ” came out], before he was Rick Ross now as far as his accomplishments. It’s always been the same, still ’til this day. If I hit him or he hits me on any given day, it’s the same love.” Rozay rides shotgun on “Harder,” a track from Gotti’s Live From the Kitchen , which was released on Tuesday. The Bawse isn’t the only high-profile rap guest, however. Jadakiss, 2 Chainz, Big K.R.I.T., Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj all appear on the LP. Another MC connected to Gotti is Drake, though the Young Money standout isn’t featured on the album. Drizzy, who would spend summers in Gotti’s native Memphis, name drops the rapper on “Underground Kings,” a track from his most recent release Take Care . “Memphis, Tennessee no, see I start to go deep back/ In Ridge Crest with my seat back, with Yo Gotti and E-Mack,” Drake spits about his connection to the southern city and it’s beloved rap scene. “I got a lot of respect for Drake, most definitely; he’s killin’ it,” Gotti said of the Toronto standout whom he met years before Drizzy signed to Lil Wayne and became a star. “Back then it wasn’t really much talkin’, you know, ’cause he was just kinda quiet. He was on his mission, though; you see he went on it.” What do you think of Yo Gotti’s Live From the Kitchen ? Tell us in the comments!
