Drake, Rick Ross Project Is ‘Official’

Y.O.L.O. (You Only Live Once) mixtape is ‘most definitely’ happening, Ross tells ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman Rick Ross Photo: MTV News It’s deeper than rap with Rick Ross and Drake . While the two have collaborated on a number of hit records like Rozay’s “Aston Martin Music” and DJ Khaled’s “I’m on One,” the two MCs share a bond that extends way beyond the studio. So when Drake announced that he and the Bawse would be collaborating on a new mixtape, Y.O.L.O. (You Only Live Once), it made sense in theory, but how real is the actual project? Very real, says Rozay. “You know, it’s official, the music is most definitely official,” Ross said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “But you know, me being a boss, I’m trying to find a way that we could put that on the shelves for the world, baby. But it’s most definitely official.” Retailing a collaboration project is tricky, especially considering that Drizzy and Rozay are signed to two different labels. Ross is currently inked up with Def Jam as a soloist, and Drake just released his sophomore album, Take Care, on Cash Money. Still, the Maybach Music CEO is hopeful. “You know, Drake, I consider him a part of the fam. It’s not just music,” he said. “We stay in the studio, we stay on Skype.” According to Ross, the two mostly talk about the music they’ve been recording, and so far their collaborations have been well received. On the day that Drake’s Take Care was leaked onto the Internet, “Lord Knows,” featuring Rozay , began trending on Twitter. Back in August, the Toronto MC had some high praise for his buddy. Drizzy was one of the few able to hear Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t as a work in progress, and his early review was glowing. “This guy right here,” Drake said, motioning to Ross as the two sat at Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV release party , “that God Forgives, I Don’t ; the only way I can describe it is like Doggystyle or Ready to Die or Clipse Lord Willin’ or any of the albums that I collected and held on to as a kid — whether it was cassette or CD.” In a recent interview with XXL magazine, Drake spoke about the status of the upcoming mixtape, revealing that the two seizures that the Bawse suffered in October may slow the process up just a bit. “I’ve been working on that for the last couple of weeks. We haven’t really connected because he’s been going through this thing with his health. I’ve been stashing my little beats and verses,” he said. There is no telling when fans will get to hear Y.O.L.O. or how it will even be released, but when it drops it should be a special one. “It’s just love all the way around the board,” Ross remarked. “So Y.O.L.O. You Only Live Once, let’s go hard, let’s go get it.” Related Videos Rick Ross, Meek Mill, N.O.R.E. And More On ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Drake Rick Ross

No, we’re not talking about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries . When news broke that Lady Gaga and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson , had split, everyone immediately wondered what had happened between Gaga and her right-hand woman . Gibson has remained relatively quiet about the split, but in a new statement to The Hollywood Reporter, she opens up a bit more about the breakup, clarifying that she was not fired from the Haus but left on her own. She added that Gaga wanted to take the reins when it came to her career. “I am fulfilled with the work I have done with choreographing all of the iconic moves, creative directing the artist, appearances, shows, directing the tour, music videos, and the HBO Monster Ball [special], which was a culmination of my work as its creator and director,” Gibson said about the five years she spent working with Gaga . “Recently, Lady Gaga was motivated to take the helm of the creative direction of her career and as such I decided to step away.” Gibson, who currently serves as the in-house creative director at Interscope Records (where Gaga is signed) and has starred in two of her own reality shows (the BET dance-competition show “Born to Dance” and another dance reality series, E!’s “The Dance Scene”), is now focused on expanding her brand with other artists and in new ways. “I am extremely proud of her, and in stepping away I wish her all the best,” she said of the pop star. “I look forward to continuing my work with notable artists, as well as new artists that are part of my Interscope Records deal, and the upcoming seasons of my TV shows.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Lady Gaga Creative Director Laurieann Gibson Related Artists Lady Gaga

Jay-Z And Kanye West’s ‘Paris’ Came ‘Out Of Nowhere’

Producer Hit-Boy is especially excited about the Throne performing the single multiple times during shows. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Jay-Z and Kanye West might give it up for Paris on their Watch the Throne single, but the international party anthem is now #1 in the U.S. Last week, “N—as in Paris” snagged the top spot on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Producer Hit-Boy couldn’t be more ecstatic, especially considering that he initially submitted Jay and ‘Ye other records that at the time seemed to be bigger than “Paris.” “The crazy thing about the ‘Paris’ record is that record just came out of nowhere, pretty much,” Hit-Boy told MTV News last week. “I did other records that were talked about being singles and all types of stuff, so I was hyped over those records.” Instead, the superstar duo chose to run with “N—as in Paris,” a brash celebration of success over a bouncy beat, mashed up with Will Ferrell sound bites . Though it was Hit-Boy who came up with the initial version of the track, he credits ‘Ye with the addition of the former “SNL” funnyman. “Genius. That’s just the genius that ‘Ye is. He always comes up with these ideas that just takes music to a whole ‘nother level,” Hit-Boy gushed. “Just something that’s never been done before.” Ferrell was also pretty excited about being included on the song. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song,” Ferrell told MTV News about the track’s “Blades of Glory” quotes. “And when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” Not only is “Paris” killing the radio, but while on tour, Hov and Yeezy perform the fan favorite multiple times in a single night. During the tour’s opening night on October 28 in Atlanta, the duo rocked the single twice; the next night they performed it three times. When Hit-Boy caught one of the two Madison Square Garden shows in New York at the beginning of November, he was blown away hearing his track repeatedly.”It was amazing,” he said. “I’ve never heard of that being done before, like a song being performed multiple times. That made me feel super special.” What do you think of “Paris”? Let us know in the comments! ‘The Dark Knight Rises’: Spoiling The Spoilers

How knowing everything about everything is ruining everything, in this week’s The Weekly Rising. By Kevin P. Sullivan Christian Bale and Tom Hardy on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Getty Images Guys, I think we’re doing it wrong. We have eight months until the July 20, 2012, release date of “The Dark Knight Rises,” and none of this feels right. I mean, yeah, a new Christopher Nolan -directed Batman movie is coming out this summer. Yeah, it’s great that he’s picked up some of his “Inception” alums to join the cast. And granted, what we’ve seen from the set does look pretty cool. (Just whose panties is Matthew Modine holding?!?!) That’s all well and good, but do you ever get the feeling something is missing? Think back to the lead-up to the release of “The Dark Knight” back in 2007 and 2008. If you were one of the 10 million people who participated in the “Why So Serious?” and “I Believe in Harvey Dent” marketing campaigns, I’m sure you vividly remember what you were doing. That’s because you were most likely running around to bakeries and digging through cakes for hidden cell phones or opening lockers in bowling alleys to look for more clues. At the very least, you followed along at home and watched as people from around the world cooperated just for the chance to get your first glimpse at Heath Ledger ‘s take on the Joker or a vandalized version of the first trailer. When the film finally arrived in theaters, it wasn’t just another movie. It was something bigger. “The Dark Knight” became a phenomenon and an experience that you had a part in. The immersive, alternate reality game that led up to the release of “The Dark Knight” was all the work of one company, 42 Entertainment. The reason we haven’t had a similar campaign for “The Dark Knight Rises” is because 42 Entertainment is in no way involved with the project. In the company’s absence, a new viral campaign in the vein of “Why So Serious?” exists, but it is nowhere near “Why So Serious?” in terms of quality and quantity. “The Fire Rises” began as a chant on the film’s official website back on May 20. Fans eventually figured out that the visual spectrum of the noise pointed to a Twitter hashtag, #TheFireRises. For each subsequent re-tweet of the tag, Warner Bros. revealed another pixel of what ended up being the first photo of Tom Hardy as Bane . An impressive and intricate start for the campaign that looked to follow in 42 Entertainment’s footsteps, but the clues soon stopped. The Twitter account lay idle until last week, when it told followers to add their voice to Hans Zimmer’s score via UJAM, several days after that news originally broke. But even removing the added layer of complexity that comes with an alternate reality game or a simple viral marketing campaign isn’t enough to explain the bungled anticipation for “The Dark Knight Rises.” Instead of simply looking forward to a film without having any elaborate task to complete, which is how fans of all other films spend their pre-releases, those who follow “The Dark Knight Rises” have been subjected to a deluge of spy photos and videos from the set. The main reason for Warner Bros.’s hurried release of an official Catwoman photo was the existence of amateur pictures. Avoiding pictures of Bane or the Batwing or Batman leading the charge with the police in tow is not an option anymore. Since the information is so widely available, it’s all simply part of the conversation now. We cover it here simply because the information is out there, and people want to know — all of which begs the question, “Why are we doing this?” Why is there a drive to find out everything about a film before you see it in its proper form? I can’t help but believe that there is at least some subconscious battle of egos among Batman fans here, where the one who knows the most information that they’re not supposed to know is somehow superior. Here I was thinking that the whole point of all of this was that we are looking forward to seeing a movie, one that is meticulously structured with surprises and turns that are created to be enjoyed only within the context of the film and not a video some extra recorded on her iPhone. No one was scrambling to find out everything about “Inception” before its release. It had the benefit of a normal ad campaign and launch. Even if “The Dark Knight Rises” isn’t going to get the full 42 Entertainment treatment, it at least deserves a normal release along the lines of “Inception.” Now is a good time to remember that when it comes to Christopher Nolan movies, the one who goes in knowing the least is the one who has the most fun. What have you thought of the lead-up to “The Dark Knight Rises”? Let me know via @KPSull on Twitter, and we’ll discuss next week. Here’s a rundown of this past week’s “The Dark Knight Rises” news. The MPAA granted “The Dark Knight Rises” prologue a PG-13 rating. College Humor examined just how Batman found his voice . We visited the New York set for a look at

Kelly Clarkson Announces Stronger Tour Dates

Singer will hit the road with opener Matt Nathanson in January. By Gil Kaufman Kelly Clarkson Photo: MTV News Kelly Clarkson won’t have much time to nurse her New Year’s Eve hangover, as she’s slated to hit the road in early January for the first North American leg of her world tour in support of Stronger. The trek will kick off on January 13 with a show in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and is currently slated to run through an April 10 date at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Clarkson — whose fifth album recently landed a #2 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart — will be joined by singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson on the outing. Though she came in behind Coldplay during her first week in stores, Clarkson was more than happy to square off against the British group for chart supremacy. “My album came out this week, Coldplay came out at the same time, and people were like, ‘Oh my God, are you kidding? Coldplay is going to kill you!’ I don’t care if they kill me,” Clarkson told MTV News of the rock band, whose Mylo Xyloto topped the charts with 447,000 copies sold. “It’s more like, how many people are going to buy their album, and then my album is right there, ’cause it’s out too,” she said. “I always think competition is healthy.” She’s not sweating it, since Clarkson has already said that she feels Stronger is her best album to date. She’s now getting ready to drop the second single off the LP, “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger).” “I think we might be going with ‘Stronger,’ the title track,” Clarkson said. “It’s just a great song, so I think we might go with that one.” As a bonus, Clarkson also expects that the song will be a blast to play in concert. ” ‘What Doesn’t Kill You,’ I can’t wait to perform that live,” said the singer. “We’ve already rehearsed it, and it’s so much fun. It’s like this big dance anthem.” Tickets for the tour will go on sale November 18. Dates for Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger tour:

Jay-Z, Kanye West Throne Show At MSG ‘Unreal’

‘There’s no other experience,’ one fan tells MTV News of the Throne’s first stop in Jay’s hometown New York City. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Kanye West and Jay-Z in “Watch The Throne” tour (file) Photo: The Washington Post/Getty Images Jay-Z and Kanye West brought their much-heralded Watch the Throne Tour to New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday night after two shows at New Jersey’s IZOD Center over the weekend. After kicking off the eagerly anticipated jaunt last week in Atlanta, the Throne began their trek north, stopping in North Carolina, and now they’ll stay put for one additional show at the Garden on Tuesday night (November 8). MTV News headed to the show on Monday, where the allure of seeing Jay and Kanye run through their catalog of hits at the World’s Most Famous Arena wasn’t lost on fans who filed into the newly renovated stadium for a 9:30 p.m. start time. Sticking to the script of their previous shows, the duo opened up with the WTT bonus track “H.A.M,” but “Welcome to the Jungle” hit a soft spot when Jay-Z spit his line, “Rest in peace to the leader of the Jackson 5.” The reference was especially touching just hours after the guilty verdict in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case was finally passed down. As expected, Jay and ‘Ye performed their #1 single “Ni–as in Paris” multiple times during the show’s final minutes, adding in a mix of Jay-Z’s early hits like “Lucifer” and “Money Ain’t a Thing,” along with Kanye’s “Get Em High” and “All Falls Down.” And post-show, fans who spoke to MTV News were still brimming with excitement. “This is where it all started,” said one excited fan, referring to Jay-Z’s first hometown stop on the tour. “This is where he’s gonna start, this is where he’s gonna finish, so this is the best feeling ever. If you’re a Jay-Z fan — or anybody’s fan for that matter — you’ve gotta see them in the Garden. There’s no other experience.” “It was unreal to watch them together, feeding off each other’s chemistry,” another fan added, after watching Jay and ‘Ye throw it down. “Watching them own the stage like they did — it was ridiculous.” The Throne will perform one additional show at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night before they head to Florida. Kelly Clarkson Calls Stronger Her ‘Best Album’

‘I think after 10 years of doing it you feel a little stronger personally and musically,’ she tells MTV News of brand-new LP’s title. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Kelly Clarkson Photo: MTV News Kelly Clarkson ‘s Stronger, the follow-up to 2009’s All I Ever Wanted, is an album full of power pop that finds Kelly delivering an empowerment message with her signature sassiness. Released on Monday (October 24), Stronger is a mix of ballads and uptempo tracks. Lead single “Mr. Know It All” kicked off the release and sets the tone for the record, which includes production and songwriting credits from industry heavyweights like Toby Gad, Clarkson fave Claude Kelly, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and Brian Kennedy. “I worked really hard on it,” said Clarkson, who is now five albums into a nearly decade-long career. “And it’s my best album, I think, to date.” The singer had to deal with some issues, however, including some delays before the record finally got an official release date; many tracks even leaked onto the Internet. But Clarkson knows how to handle adversity, as her album title reflects. “There were a few different titles that were going around and I think the reason why we came up with Stronger was just because every song was about empowerment and almost like overcoming stuff,” she explained. “So, even if it was a bad situation and a sad song, it was about overcoming that. So by the end of the song, it’s kind of more inspiration than sad. So I think that’s why [we named it that], and I think after 10 years of doing it you feel a little stronger personally and musically. People know you better. It’s just easier, I think.” The album’s track list is full of song titles that include the word “you”: “What Doesn’t Kill You,” “I Forgive You,” “You Love Me.” So we asked Clarkson, exactly who did she have on her mind while recording the album. “I don’t know. I guess I was the opposite of a narcissist this time,” she laughed. “They’re all different ‘you’s.’ I didn’t have a bad breakup or anything,” she continued. “I just think life is about relationships so I always write all about these different ones going on in my life. And I don’t have a filter, so it’s pretty verbatim.” With her album finally out, Clarkson is looking forward to hitting the road. “Starting the tour in January, we’re doing that right now [and] we’re developing that right now.” Share your reviews of Stronger in the comments below! Pregnant Beyonce Showing Off Tit of the Day

I love the bullshit scandal about Beyonce faking her pregnancy….I don’t know why, maybe it is cuz it is such a ridiculous thing to do…even though I have my theories about Jay Z and her being business partners and not actually fuck partners….cuz Jay Z owns the right to Rihanna and according to Esquire she’s the sexiest bitch of 2011…so why would he bother with some fat has been trying to hold on….see I figure Beyonce just wants to maintain a relationship with her fried chicken, you know rekindle it like back when they sponsored her tour and she had an all access pass to their deep fried goodness, while getting press that she’s a mom, only to adopt a kid in 9 months and pretend it is hers…. The whole thing may be confusing, but I’m sure it is fact..but then again I’m a pretty paranoid person and I believe nothing…especially when the baby bump folds in half….and Beyonce’s the kind of girl who only fucks herself in front of the mirror while laying on a pile of diamonds…who knows…but more importantly…who cares… Here she is busting out.

Taylor Swift Recalls ‘Ridiculous’ Duet With T.I.

‘We were all just so starstruck,’ she tells MTV News of performing with the rapper in Atlanta earlier this month. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News Over the course of her arena-filling Speak Now tour , Taylor Swift has been performing with some of her favorite artists. Many of the pair-ups have been with artists you might expect — Usher, Justin Bieber , Hayley Williams — but some are more likely to have you scratching your head. A swaggered-out Swift has been displaying her street cred by chilling with rappers like Nicki Minaj, T.I. and B.o.B during several of her tour stops. But it’s not all that bizarre considering Swift is a big fan of the genre. “I’m a huge hip-hop fan, and it’s been so amazing to have so many incredible artists come out and to get to sing the hooks on their songs that I’ve been blasting in my car for the last couple years,” she told MTV News at the launch event for her Wonderstruck perfume . “It’s been awesome. I couldn’t have asked for more amazing special guests on this tour, and we’re not finished yet.” When asked who she was most surprised by, she shared that it was T.I. The rapper joined Swift onstage in October, just days after finishing his 11-month prison sentence , to perform “Live Your Life.” “Well, I called T.I. the night before the show, so I felt like it’s such short notice that [he wouldn’t do it with me], and he’s just like, ‘Hey, yeah, sure,’ ” she recalled. “And it was just amazing. I was so excited ’cause I’m such a fan and I thought, ‘This is such short notice, this is so ridiculous’ that I’m asking him to do this the night before. And he’s like, ‘I’ll be there,’ ” she continued. “And he showed up for sound check and we were all just so star-struck.” The headline-making Atlanta appearance marked the beginning of T.I.’s return to public life. He’s currently releasing music (including his new single, “I’m Flexin’ ” ), working on a clothing line, Akoo and is planning to take over pop with an in-the-works remix of Ke$ha’s “Sleazy.” Swift’s Speak Now world tour continues through March 2012, with a break around the holidays in November and December.
