Lady Gaga’s Vogue Hommes Japan Meat Suit Offends PETA

‘Flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal,’ organization says of Japanese magazine cover. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga on the October 2010 cover of Vogue Hommes Japan Photo: Terry Richardson/ Conde Nast Right about now, one can only imagine how ripe that meat suit Lady Gaga donned for a cover shoot by Terry Richardson for Vogue Hommes Japan is getting. But PETA thought it stunk from the very beginning. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals slammed Gaga for her latest sartorial head turner, in which she modeled a skimpy bikini made out of steaks, with another rib eye propped on her blond tresses for good measure. “No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. “Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for, they achieved it.” Newkirk told the New York Daily News that “Lady Gaga’s job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body.” The criticism is a bit of a turn-about in the Gaga/PETA relationship . The organization praised Gaga — who is nominated for a record 13 MTV VMAs — in December for setting a faux polar bear coat on fire in her “Bad Romance” video and again in January for adding vegan hot dogs to her tour rider. And they loved when Gaga showed up in Kermit the Frog outfit to a German television interview last year, explaining that it was her commentary on not wearing fur. The Vogue issue is the same one in which Gaga poses as her male alter ego , Jo Calderone, a brown-haired mechanic from Sicily, for an alternate cover. In the accompanying interview, Calderone claims to be Gaga’s good buddy and occasional friend-with-benefits. “I met her at a shoot [photographer] Nick Knight was doing,” Calderone told the mag. “She’s f—in’ beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, ‘Don’t be, baby, you were born this way.’ I took her out after. The rest is private.” What do you think of Lady Gaga’s meat bikini? Kings Of Leon Release Come Around Sundown Art, Track Listing

First single, ‘Radioactive,’ will premiere on band’s website on Wednesday. By Kyle Anderson Kings of Leon Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images Though they faced scathing reviews from a pack of pigeons in St. Louis a few weeks ago, most of the rest of the rock world is eagerly awaiting the fifth album from Kings of Leon . The wait is finally coming to an end, as Come Around Sundown is set to drop on October 19 , with the first taste — a single called “Radioactive” — coming out next week. “Radioactive” will see its video premiere on Kings of Leon’s official website on Wednesday, September 8. It will then move to radio on Monday, September 13, and to iTunes the next day. As with most high-profile rock releases, two versions will be made available: the standard album as well as a deluxe edition that will include bonus tracks. Come Around Sundown contains 13 tracks, several of which have been road-tested by the band during its summer tour. In keeping with tradition, the new tunes unveiled on the tour combine bluesy, hard-rocking sensibilities with just the right amount of Americana twang (especially “Mary,” which has quickly become a live staple). Meanwhile, the new single “Radioactive” is a fantastically kinetic uptempo rocker that features a giant sing-along chorus. In addition to the track listing and single release dates, Kings of Leon also released the cover art to Come Around Sundown. It features a photo of a small island with a pair of palm trees at sunset. Shot from the sea, it’s a warm, wistful image that serves the title of the album extremely well. Kings of Leon’s summer tour continues through September 25, when they will make up the Missouri show that they had to cut short because of pigeon droppings. Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Trey Songz Plays Passion, Pain & Pleasure Songs On Ustream

The singer previews a few tracks from September 14 LP and phones some lucky fans during broadcast. By Mawuse Ziegbe Trey Songz Photo: Ustream With Trey Songz’ Passion, Pain & Pleasure September 14 release date just days away, the singer decided to give his devoted fans a special preview. The Virginia crooner took to Ustream to share a few sensual cuts from his upcoming fourth album. Fresh from a massage and outfitted in a plain white tee and a fitted cap, Songz led his broadcast from Cincinnati, Ohio, the Thursday (September 2) stop on his Passion, Pain & Pleasure Tour . In the hour-long Ustream session, Songz spoke with a few lucky fans on the phone about what they’re most passionate about and played tracks like the sultry slow jam “Love Faces.” The singer grooved along with the song, a midtempo number that proves his knack for cranking out baby-making music is intact with lines like, “Wouldn’t it be nice if all night I was in you?” Songz was proud of his work, saying, “That thang cold, y’all, that thang cold,” when the track wrapped up. Throughout the broadcast, Songz lamented the leak of Pleasure tracks like “Love Faces” and “Doorbell,” which began making the Internet rounds last week. “Shout out to everybody who didn’t listen to the leaks,” he said. But the singer brushed off the premature release of some of his tracks, adding, “Bootleggers gotta eat. I ain’t mad at y’all boys.” Songz also gave fans a taste of “Massage,” another bedroom-burner dedicated to lavishing a lover with a head-to-toe rubdown that he frequently performs on the tour while hooking up a lucky concertgoer with an actual massage. In addition, Ustream viewers heard the sizzling “Doorbell,” a track in which Songz unapologetically gets down to the business of gettin’ busy. “Put my lips all over you/ Wanna put on a show for you/ This bedroom is my Colosseum/ Ring my bell, I’ll let you in,” Songz belts. Eminem And Jay-Z Aren’t First Megastar Concert Pairing

Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, more paved the way By Gil Kaufman Eminem and Jay-Z Photo: Kristian Dowling/ Getty Images When Jay-Z and Eminem take the stage in Detroit at Comerica Park on Thursday and Friday and again in New York at Yankee Stadium on September 13 and 14, it be a meeting of two of the biggest names in rap, who between them have sold more than 120 million albums. But their pairing is just the latest mega-coupling in the history of tours that promised to bring together the best of both worlds (sorry, Jay and R. Kelly , we tried not to bring that one up). Among our favorites: Guns N’ Roses and Metallica This volcanic 1992 outing featuring the biggest rock band in the world and the thrash legends who would soon snatch that crown was every bit as explosive as anticipated. With unpredictable act Faith No More in the opening slot (after Nirvana reportedly declined), the three-month stadium tour featured plenty of drama, including Metallica singer James Hetfield suffering second- and third-degree pyro burns during a show in Montreal, which turned into a riot after Guns singer Axl Rose left the stage complaining of a sore throat. Wu-Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine At the height of their powers in 1997, bomb-throwing Los Angeles rockers Rage teamed up with the equally incendiary rap crew for what was slated to be a triumphant tour of amphitheaters and arenas. But in a sign of how shook Rage had the authorities, police in a number of cities tried to get the shows canceled fearing Rage’s alleged “anti-law-enforcement” stance, to no avail. Due to internal pressure within the sometimes-fractious Wu-Tang, some missed shows and an alleged assault, the Clan dropped off after less than two weeks of shows, replaced by the Roots and Foo Fighters. Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera The Justified / Stripped Tour may go down as the last hurrah of the teen-pop era. The 2003 joint tour between the former ‘NSYNC legend and the pop diva was a high-tech, big-budget extravaganza that found both singers at the peak of their powers. Eminem, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, G-Unit and D12 It was a rap monster, with the Slim Shady and 50 headlining the Anger Management 3 amphitheater outing that would mark the last full-fledged tour by Eminem in the past five years. Marshall Mathers would end up canceling the European leg of the tour in order to check into rehab for a prescription-medicine addiction. There are plenty of others, too, many of them on the classic-rock tip, including the unlikely pairing of two former Van Halen singers, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar , in 2002; the 1995 pairing of Neil Young and Pearl Jam; and the ongoing collaboration between the world’s leading piano men, Elton John and Billy Joel. History is also filled with tours that never happened that were as exciting on paper as some of the ones that have, including the scotched dual-headlining Fame Kills extravaganza promised by Lady Gaga and Kanye West last year. That eye-popping spectacle was grounded after West went into hiding following his bum-rush of Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards. Then there was the Big Four Tour featuring Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax that has reportedly been brewing for two years but has yet to happen. Instead, it turned into this year’s American Carnage Tour with Slayer, Megadeth and Testament. What is your favorite superstar bill? Let us know in the comments below! Jersey Shore Do Bodyshots and Girl on Girl Kissing of the Day

I am onto Jersey Shore. They are so fucking obvious in their strategy to be the safe for TV version of Girls Gone Wild, by taking girls who would have been in the RV showering for Joe Francis, and making a show out of the trash. So in keeping up with obvious, almost boring and expected drunk girl at the party behavior that has become norm at college events, thanks to Girls Gone Wild and other Spring Break related bullshit….that includes body shots, girls kissing girls, flashing panty and tits, and all the other bullshit that comes with being a trashy party slut, only I am pretty sure these Jersey Shore bitches are sober and just going through the action. It is all bullshit, their ugly, let’s hope they die when their tour bus drives off a ravine because the driver is a hero willing to sacrifice himself to save humanity…. But on the positive side of everything, know that at least one teen who watches this bullshit is going to be busting out body shots at their next party….something…that just didn’t happen when I was in school, spoiling this generation even more that they already are… If you like leathery skinned, horribly aged monsters rockin out like college whores, even if they never went to college….this post is for you…

How Rock The Bells Tour Lineup Came To Fruition

‘It’s something you see classic rock bands do,’ tour organizer Chang Weisberg says of artists like Snoop Dogg playing their entire albums. By Shaheem Reid Snoop Dogg Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images When you initially looked at this year’s Rock the Bells Tour lineup , it seemed almost too good to be true. It’s not like fans didn’t have faith in the outing’s promoters, Guerilla Union — they’ve delivered time and time again. Acts such as Nas, Rage Against the Machine, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes and two of this year’s headliners, A Tribe Called Quest and the Wu-Tang Clan , have all stepped foot on the main stage in the previous six outings of RTB. Still, the tour this year is more than historic. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime epic, as the artists are performing their classic albums in their entireties. Slick Rick has been performing his The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Rakim does Paid in Full, Lauryn Hill does selections from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill as well as the Fugees’ The Score. Want more? KRS-One perform Boogie Down Productions’ Criminal Minded, the Wu do Enter the 36 Chambers, Tribe do Midnight Marauders and Snoop Dogg closes it out with Doggystyle. To see all of those classics, all of those LPs, which could easily make up a Best 10 Rap Albums of All-Time list, be performed within a 12-hour span, is absolutely surreal. The tour kicked off on Saturday night in San Bernardino, and for many fans, it was like seeing the soundtrack to their lives right in front of their faces. “This is something we had thrown around for a while,” Chang Weisberg of Guerilla Union, the tour’s organizer and promoter, said last week in Los Angeles. “We’d been talking about it for awhile with the squad. It became a reality during last year’s Smoke Out [festival]. Cypress Hill did Black Sunday in it’s entirety for the Smoke Out. It went over so crazy, that was the solidifying moment when we said we’ve definitely gotta do this for Rock the Bells. We talked to managers and artists immediately, seeing if people were really into it. Any time you’re sitting around and talking about Rock the Bells, you’re talking about what these kids are dreaming about. It’s always a question, whose record is better? What’s a top five record? Who’s the top five MC? Then, when you throw it in all together and couple it with what are the most classic records of all time, it was undeniable. “It’s something you see classic rock bands do,” Chang added. “Like, you see Pink Floyd do The Wall. Or outside of the hip-hop genre, it’s something that might be a lot more common. Here, it’s an opportunity to do a whole new reign. Kids are already saying ‘we wanna see Illmatic or Paul’s Boutique. People weren’t thinking like that. As a promoter, I don’t think I’ve asked artists ‘Would you do this song?’ as opposed to ‘Would you do this whole record?’ Fortunately, we were close enough to these camps that they knew we were serious and it would be an amazing thing if we could pull it off.” Snoop Dogg, who’s the last act to perform every night on his year’s tour, says he was excited to be a part of this event. “I was a fan of KRS and Rakim and Eric B and Slick Rick. All the rappers that’s getting down before me and whatnot. I’m thinking I’m opening up for them,” Snoop, surrounded by Daz, Kurupt, Lady of Rage, DJ Battlecat, Warren G and RBX, said. “I grew up buying their records and being fans of theirs. It’s an honor to be on the same stage with them. When [Guerilla Union] asked, I said I’m rolling. They told me what it was. I said I don’t want to just get onstage and perform my album, I wanna make it an experience. I wanna bring out the theatrics to the album. Doggystyle is like a journey. I want people to see it and feel it and when they leave be like ‘We seen a movie.’ ” Snoop definitely goes hard in the paint with mini-movies, a live band and, of course, his crew from the album. Probably the most surprising act for people to see is Lauryn Hill. For the past decade, her music releases and stage appearances have been kept at a minimum. Chang says he and his company were lucky enough to have close ties with the music legend. “We were blessed in that we’ve worked with Lauryn for a number of years and we’ve stayed close with her and her camp,” he explained. “Ultimately, she’s in a space where she’s excited about music. Her children are old enough where she can hit the road comfortably. We are very fortunate she decided to do it. We always hold Lauryn as one of the best MCs of all time. It was awesome when she said she would do it. She sat with it for a while. At the end of the day, we were fortunate she agreed to do it.” As huge as the talent pool of this year’s Rock the Bells is, it originally had yet another timeless act scheduled for the tour. “The first confirmation for Rock the Bells, it’s no secret, it was Run-DMC,” Chang revealed. “We had Run-DMC doing Raising Hell. It was going to be Raising Hell at Rock the Bells. It didn’t work out, but fortunately [there were] enough other groups to pull off the vision that we felt comfortable with when we made our announcement.” Rock the Bells continued in San Francisco Sunday night, and this Saturday, the tour stops in New York. The last day of the tour is on Sunday in Washington D.C. Besides the pioneers on the main stage, the Clipse, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Immortal Technique and Yelawolf are among the acts appearing on the “Paid Dues” stage. Five-city outing will be first gig under Live Nation Australia affiliate. By James Dinh Jay-Z and Bono Photo: Dave M. Benett/ Getty Images With his co-headlining hometown stadium shows alongside Eminem and the Black Ball NY affair scheduled, Jay-Z is going to be one busy man this fall. But never underestimate Jay’s work ethic: Billboard is reporting that the rapper is planning to hit the stage as a special guest on U2’s 360 Tour in Australia. The five-city tour will be the first concert promoted by the new Live Nation Australia. The outing will begin in Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on November 25 and make its way to amphitheaters across the country, stopping in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. It will conclude at Perth’s Subiaco Oval on December 18. Tickets will be on sale to the general public September 3, while U2.com subscribers will have the opportunity for a pre-sale.
