Diggy Simmons Breaks Down Key Scenes In ‘Two Up’ Video

‘I like how it came out overall for real. It’s just a good feeling,’ Diggy tells MTV News of his new video. By Rob Markman Diggy Simmons Photo: MTV News Diggy’s “Two Up” party isn’t over. On Friday, Young Mr. Simmons celebrated the premiere of his “Two Up” video with MTV’s RapFix blog, and the teenage MC was so excited that he sat with MTV News and broke down each scene in the Clifton Bell-directed clip. The vid begins with Diggy standing alone, playing air piano in time with the track’s opening keys. The action may seem insignificant, but it’s actually a key component to the song. “That was what really drew me to the track when I first heard the beat,” he said. “It was just those piano keys that I love.” As the beat begins to take shape, so does the video, and a bouncer begins to let Diggy’s specially invited guests into the party. Of course the crowd is compromised mostly of females. “There were so many girls at the shoot that we were like, ‘We have to get some dudes in the mix,’ ” Diggy said, laughing at the non-dilemma. “They were like New York, young kids, you know how they get,” the MC said of the video’s extras. “It was good energy and we didn’t even have to tell them to get hyped at no point in the video. I was feeding off of their energy when I was in front of them during those shots. It was just easy.” It wasn’t just the crowd that excited Diggy: The fashion-forward MC was also hyped at his on-camera wardrobe, though some of his favorite items didn’t even make the cut. In one scene Simmons sports a turquoise jacket with two mini-Jesus pieces around his neck. On his feet he wears a special pair of black and gold Air Jordan #6s that were released back in 2006 and now go for as much as $850 online. “I’m kinda mad that you didn’t get that in the shot,” Diggy said of his coveted footwear. Another key scene, in which a silhouetted Diggs dances across the screen, was actually inspired by another rap great. For the “Two Up” video, Simmons borrowed from Kanye West’s 2007 clip for “Homecoming.” “That whole silhouette idea is something that we drew inspiration from but made it a little different with the color, because that video is black and white,” he explained. “I like how it came out overall for real. It’s just a good feeling.” What do you think of Diggy’s “Two Up” video? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Diggy Simmons

The Water Runs Dry: Chris Brown And Rihanna Have A Twitter Break-Up Over “Theraflu” Freestyle

Just when you thought there was a chance for reconciliation… Chris Brown And Rihanna Unfollow Each Other On Twitter Over Diss Track According to TMZ reports : It seems Rihanna has finally had enough of Chris Brown … the singer has “unfollowed” her ex-boyfriend on Twitter after he released a new diss track that appears to be aimed at her. The song in question is a remix of Kanye’s TheraFlu — in which Brown freestyles the verse, “Don’t f*ck with my old bitches … like a bad fur … every industry n*gga done had her.” He continues, “Trick or treat like a pumpkin … just to smash her.” Hours after Brown released the track last night, Rihanna stopped following Brown on Twitter — a HUGE move — and one that’s leading many to assume Rihanna believes the verse is about her. A short time later, Brown unfollowed Rihanna. Let Chris tell it, he didn’t have Robyn in mind when he spit his hot bars of fire. Hit the flipper to listen to Breezy’s not-so-subliminal diss track!

Santigold Says Earl Sweatshirt Collabo ‘Will Be Done Soon’

Though she’s just released her Master of My Make-Believe album, Santi’s already prepping a new track with the Odd Future member. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Uptin Saiidi Santigold Photo: MTV News On her just-released Master of My Make-Believe album, Santigold strives to reinvent (or reinterpret) reality … which, as you might expect, was a challenge, to say the very least. “It’s about accepting that your fantasy is actually your reality, and trusting your imagination, and trusting that your imagination is actually a real sense of knowing, ” she told MTV News. “It was about navigating through my mind, my emotions, and realizing I was in control. I had to trust my vision and my creativity and really own the art I was making … I had to grow into accepting that. It took a tremendous amount of trust in myself.” And while she spent much of the past year working under conditions both real and surreal, Santi also found time to collaborate with ( finally free ) Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt on a new track. But since the collaboration was revealed via Twitter back in February , there’s been no updates on just when fans would be able to hear the track. So, when Santi stopped by the MTV Newsroom earlier this week, we asked her for the latest … and just how the unlikely team-up happened in the first place. “I saw a tweet. I guess somebody re-tweeted that Earl said ‘I like Santigold, would love to do something.’ And I was like, ‘OK!’ ” she laughed. “I mean, he’s so cool, he’s such a cute, awesome dude. And they were at Coachella, and they were the first ones up onstage — we invite people up onstage [during her performance] — and they came and did some major booty-shaking moves. And a couple of them came to our MOCA show in LA. We did this event that Mike D curated … and they came there and caught the show.” So, when can we hear it? Well, with a new album out, Santigold’s plate is pretty full right now, though she swears she’s going to get the track out as soon as she finds a free second. “I don’t have many plans these days. I just kinda, like, soon as I can get stuff done,” she said. “It’s something I really want to do, so hopefully it will be done soon.” What do you think of an Earl Sweatshirt/Santigold collabo? And shit’s already getting crazy. Last night the Flyers delivered a huge upset to the Penguins, coming back from a 3-0 deficit to win in overtime. Justin Bieber Takes A ‘Leap’ With ‘Boyfriend’

‘He’s an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist,’ producer Mike Posner tells MTV News about Bieber’s new single. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber dropped his bumping new single “Boyfriend” on Monday (March 26), teasing his next album, Believe. It’s a grinding, midtempo song that hears Bieber proclaiming all the ways he can make a girl happy (swag and fondue included!). Co-produced and co-written by “Cooler Than Me” singer Mike Posner, the song shows growth from Bieber’s “Baby” days. When MTV News caught up with Posner last week, he told us what it was like to hit the studio with Bieber (and co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy) for the track. “I’ve known [Bieber’s manager] Scooter [Braun] for a few years, so I actually ran into Scooter at a Clippers game and told him I would love to work with Justin,” Posner said. “I got the opportunity to write with Justin. I didn’t really know what to expect at first, but he’s an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist. “Because I’m an artist myself, I can be pretty selective on who I produce for and who I make beats for … and really what I’m looking for is an amazing vocalist, somebody that can sing better than I can,” he continued. “And the other thing is somebody that’s willing to not try to make something that succeeds within the matrix of what pop music is now, but makes something that moves that matrix to where it is, and Justin was willing to take that leap with me.” Bieber spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show hours after the song’s world premiere Monday, explaining why this was the perfect track to kick off the Believe era. “It was a really hard choice. I mean, we had so many songs, so many uptempos we could release, [that] I thought, ‘Let’s slow it down,’ ” he said, adding that there are already plenty of fast songs all over the radio. “It’s just something a little bit more mature, but it’s also something I think I’m ready for.” While fans and industry insiders had been wondering what a more grown-up Bieber would sound like, he said he tried to block out all the noise when making the track. “There’s so many people that are going to give me opinions, but I’m the only one who can ultimately make those decisions, because I’m going to have to live with my career for the rest of my life. So I thought this was the perfect single,” he said, adding that this song “was me all the way; it is a representation of me.” And Bieber said “Boyfriend” perfectly sets up what’s coming next. “It’s kind of classic,” he said of the album. “The songs, I feel, won’t get old. The music is very fresh, but it’s also — I’m taking a lot from old-school music, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of old R&B, a lot of old pop. It’s pretty special.” What do you think of “Boyfriend”? Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ Single Is ‘Definitely Edgier’

Producer/songwriter tells MTV News the ‘sexier’ track, which drops Monday, will ‘definitely surprise people.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber is days away from dropping his lead Believe single, “Boyfriend,” and its early buzz grew even louder on Wednesday when Bieber released the lyrics for the track. While fans will have to wait until Monday to hear the song, MTV News got a little bit of a tease from one of the guys who worked with the teen sensation on the track. “This record is different in a very good way,” “BF” co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy told MTV News. “Definitely edgier, it’s more grown-up, it’s more developed and it’s sexier. It’s just like really dope. It’s gonna definitely surprise people. People aren’t really expecting that they’re going to like it.” Levy thinks pretty much everyone is destined to like it, thanks to a sound that reaches far beyond that of Bieber’s tweeny pop days. “It’s more of something that everyone can drive around and listen to it, whether they’re guys or girls or older,” he said. Bieber has said he wanted to grow up with this album and the Mike Posner-produced song. His model was the post-‘NSYNC Justin Timberlake. From the sound of it, he might have hit that nail on the head. “It’s more just the verses [that he raps on] and the rest he’s singing,” he said. “It’s dope. It’s hip-hop, but with great acoustic R&B, pop guitar with very hip-hop, clubby drums and really dope Justin Timberlake-y melodies.” The creation of the song was pretty organic, Levy said. “We got together and started messing around. It was one of those things where you didn’t have to struggle too much. It just kind of happened,” he said. “He always goes in and does melodies and he’s involved in lyrics and everything.” “Boyfriend” will set the tone for the album, set for release later this year. “There’s definitely lots of diversity on the album. There’s really ballad-y stuff and there’s more stuff like this. I would say [‘Boyfriend’] is harder,” Levy added. “He’s very open to everything.” Are you excited to hear a “grown-up” Bieber on “Boyfriend”? Leave your comment below!
