God Bless America Trailer: Useless Celebrities and Miscreants of Society, Take Cover!

Loveless, jobless and terminally ill, Frank has had enough of American society. He decides to go out with a bang – literally – and go postal on everyone who deserves it. In the hilarious-looking dark comedy God Bless America, Frank (Joel Murray) takes his gun and decides to take out the stupidest, cruelest, most repellent U.S. citizens. Frank finds an unusual accomplice in high-school student Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage, disenfranchisement, and loathing of irritating celebs. ‘Avengers’ Teaser: Earth’s All-Time Mightiest Trailer?

The Talk Nerdy team consults comic book and movie experts for their opinions on the second theatrical trailer for “Marvel’s The Avengers.” By Josh Wigler Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel Studios Help me out here, guys: Am I really the only one out there who thinks the new “Marvel’s The Avengers” trailer is the best superhero trailer of the past year? Sure, we’ve had excellent spots for “Dark Knight Rises” and “Amazing Spider-Man” in recent months, but did either of those feature the Incredible Hulk running full-sprint toward the sky to catch a battered and broken Iron Man? No, they didn’t — yet somehow, I’m the only person on Talk Nerdy who seems really, truly psyched for everything “Avengers” has to offer. As you’ll see in this week’s episode of Talk Nerdy below, my friends and co-hosts Eric Ditzian and Brian Phares are nowhere near as jazzed about “The Avengers” as I am. In fact, they’re quite worried about the Marvel movie. I share some of their concerns, sure, but more than anything, I’m seriously bummed that their levels of excitement are so low after watching the newest trailer for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Their reactions got me thinking: Am I losing my mind? Am I alone in my “Avengers” fan fever dream? I reached out to several colleagues and pals in the film and comic book space to get their opinions on the new trailer, and thankfully for my mental health, it seems I’m not alone in my copious praise. “I just have one word to describe the new trailer: BIG!” MTV Geek editor Valerie Gallaher said. “To see the core Avengers characters together and in action on such a colossal playing field is just a dream come true. And Hulk looks great and believable, which is a real relief for me.” “The new footage showcasing Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man was invincible; the glimpse of Stark Tower, exquisite; and the promise of more Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, incredible. We even got a quick look at Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill,” offered Steve Sunu with Comic Book Resources . “While the trailer didn’t really defy any expectations for Earth’s Mightiest Movie, it certainly met them — and piqued our interest as to why the Avengers are fighting Decepticons to the soundtrack of ‘Inception.’ ” Of course, my buddy Steve is referring to the giant monster/ spaceship seen at the end of the trailer. Popular theories are pointing to the creature being a Marvel Studios variation on Fin Fang Foom, the massive, shape-shifting space dragon from comic book lore. Jordan Hoffman offered some opinions on the mystery antagonist in his latest Planet Fanboy column for NextMovie , and also added his assessment of the “Avengers” trailer. “Will there be a better movie than ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ this summer? Maybe … probably,” he said. “I mean, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Prometheus’ are looking outrageous. Will there be a trailer that draws more breath from the daydreams of comic-reading fanboys? I strongly doubt it.” Exactly my point. “Avengers” might not be the best geek movie coming out in 2012, but I’m hard pressed to identify a trailer with more geekgasm-worthy material. As Comics Alliance ‘s senior editor Caleb Goellner put it: “The new ‘Avengers’ trailer was essentially what every fan has been waiting for since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s pad after the ‘Iron Man’ credits. Previous promotions did well with broadcasting the film’s human drama, but admittedly had me worried about its special effects budget. The new trailer slayed my concerns. The Hulk didn’t just catch Iron Man in this thing; the dude caught my heart.” Couldn’t have said it better myself, Caleb. What did you think of the “Avengers” trailer? By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato in the “Stay Strong” trailer Photo: MTV News & Docs Demi Lovato pledges to “Stay Strong” in her MTV documentary, the aptly titled Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” which will debut on Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. When the trailer dropped last week, fans immediately began to watch it on repeat. It lends insight and gives sneak peeks into what Lovatics will get to see and hear from the star when the full show airs next week. The deeply personal special follows the singer/actress as she struggles to confront her personal demons, while also focusing on her music career. “I wanted to do this documentary because I told a lot of my story but no one has taken cameras inside of my life and gotten to see what it’s like first-hand a day in the life of me,” she told MTV News on Thursday (March 1). “I thought it would be a cool opportunity for my fans to see what it’s like.” Before the show airs, MTV News is taking a look at several of the must-see moments from the trailer. Her Fans Demi opens up about the support she received from her fans during her personal struggles, noting that they helped her though her darkest days and still do. Her fans also talk about how appreciative they are of her openness and honesty. She even visits the Illinois treatment facility where she spent several months. She later says, “I’m not fixed; this is a daily battle. But I continue to work my butt off because now I want to be a legitimate role model.” Battling Her Eating Disorders The singer/actress makes her way home for her first Thanksgiving since treatment. Having dealt with eating disorders, she goes to a family gathering for a holiday that’s focused on eating. “I never thought that I’d be a role model,” she says about her public image. “When I first started in the industry, everyone just kind of made me a role model, and I hated that. I had so many issues underneath that needed to be taken care of. … It literally ended up driving me insane.” Getting Back to Touring She cut her tour with the Jonas Brothers short in 2010 when she went into treatment, and in fall 2011 she embarked on her first tour since leaving treatment. About the trek, she notes, “This time on tour I feel like I am definitely not taking anything for granted.” The special is named after two tattoos on her wrists that read, “Stay Strong.” The ink pays homage to her devoted fans, who stood by her side through her recent personal struggles through her return in 2011, when she released her album Unbroken. “It’s something that my fans were actually drawing on their wrists while I was still in treatment,” she explained about the significance of her tattoos. “Some people even got tattoos of it, so I wanted to show you guys that I will never forget the support that you guys gave me.” Don’t miss “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong,” debuting Tuesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer Released

Brace yourselves: The trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has arrived! Yes, this is a real movie. The subject matter of which is explained by the title. The absurd movie mash-up of historical drama and vampire horror stars Benjamin Walker as our nation’s greatest president, haunted by the death of his mother at a young age, a horrific tragedy blamed on the blood suckers … fictionally of course. We think. He devotes his life, and ends up President of the United States, as part of an all-out quest to eradicate vampires from the world. The Vampire Diaries should really consider an Abe Lincoln plot line at some point. Watch the trailer below … Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer

‘The Bourne Legacy’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Jeremy Renner’s rogue agent is introduced in badass ‘Bourne’ fashion. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jeremy Renner in the “Bourne Legacy” trailer Photo: Universal Pictures Jeremy Renner makes his big debut as the latest agent gone rogue in “The Bourne Legacy.” Picking up where Matt Damon left off, Renner plays Aaron Cross, an apparent improvement over Jason Bourne. You’ll have to head over to Apple to check out the brand-new trailer, but we have the five key scenes you need to play attention to: Background The trailer immediately sets the mood with a little help from the opening credits of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” The bars sliding across the screen directly borrow from the horror classic and make things creepy quickly. Jeremy Renner’s character gives the name “Kenneth,” despite being listed in the credits as Aaron Cross. At the beginning of the trailer, Kenneth/Aaron does not look well. His left eye sags, and the right side of his face is speckled with blood. Immediately, we’re questioning who he is and what he’s been through, a good thing when introducing a new character to the series. ‘Well, That Has Healed Well’ If Aaron is “Treadstone without the inconsistencies,” that may imply he is, in fact, stronger than Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. The physician looking at Aaron’s hand in the trailer remarks that it had healed well, as if it’s something remarkable. Does the removal of those Treadstone inconsistencies include a rapid healing ability? Introducing Edward Norton Norton joins the cast as the newest villain in the series, and he makes for a welcome addition. In the trailer, we’re introduced to his character, Byer, who tests Aaron to see if he’s completely committed to the program, known as “Outcome.” Norton leaves little doubt that he’s going to make for a worthy opponent in a series known for its intelligent bad guys. Reintroducing Albert Finney The introduction of a new main character does not preclude the appearance of some familiar faces. Both Finney and Joan Allen reprise their roles, as Dr. Hirsch and Pamela Landy, respectively. They will be the main through lines to the original trilogy and should help make a little more sense of the new direction for the series. The Fire Extinguisher Though it may not ultimately mean that much for the story, a move as inventive as sticking a nail into the end of the fire extinguisher has to be acknowledged. “The Bourne Legacy” hits theaters August 3. ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer Delivers Action, Laughs

MTV News’ Josh Horowitz and Josh Wigler give their stamp of approval to the sneak peek with their own commentary track. By Josh Horowitz and Josh Wigler Andrew Garfield in the trailer for “Amazing Spider-Man” Photo: Columbia Now that’s the Spider-Man we’ve been waiting for! The friendly neighborhood wall-crawler swung into action early Tuesday (February 7) with a brand-new trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” director Marc Webb’s reboot of the flagship Marvel superhero. Although we were afforded the opportunity to see the world from Spidey’s own perspective in the last preview — quite literally, in fact — we honestly get an even better sense of what Webb is going for with his take on the “Spider-Man” franchise in this latest spot. From web-shooters to reptilian rampages, there’s a lot to cover in the newest look at “Spider-Man,” so MTV Movies Managing Editor Josh Horowitz and MTV Splash Page Editor Josh Wigler used their combined spider-senses to dive into the “Amazing” new trailer. Swing Away We’ve known about the return of Spider-Man’s web-shooters for a while now. But knowing and seeing are very different things — and yes, we like what we see, very much! The red-light visual cue of the shooters paired with mechanical sound effects is magic for the eyes and music to our ears. And actually seeing Spidey webbing around New York City — perhaps it’s early, but “Amazing” looks to have the best web-slinging of any Spider-Man movie to date. Lighten Up Andrew Garfield is funny. Peter Parker is hilarious. But based on the first teaser, we weren’t sure that Garfield’s Parker would be in on the joke. Well, we were wrong! The “Social Network” actor shows his Spidey knowhow in this new trailer, cracking wise against criminals and spinning them up all the same. “Amazing” looks like a darker Spider-Man than the films we’ve seen before, sure, but there’s room for levity. Garfield seems to fully understand that, and we’re tremendously relieved. The Untold Story The new secret origin of Peter Parker remains mystifying. It seems that the disappearance of Peter’s parents early in his childhood isn’t just a peripheral plot point, but perhaps even at the core of how and why Peter becomes Spider-Man. It’s a curious move likely to leave both casual and die-hard fans scratching their heads, at least for now. The new trailer doesn’t clear things up much, so we’ll have to wait until July to see how this mysterious web unravels. Nolan-esque Marc Webb gets characters. He gets emotion. Anyone who saw “(500) Days of Summer” knows this. Now we know he gets action as well. Web-slinging aside, the scene of maskless Spidey going toe-to-toe against a pack of cops is a brilliantly executed piece of action and gives us lots of confidence that Webb knows what he’s doing in the fisticuffs department. Dare we say it, we even got a “Dark Knight” vibe from that scene. King Koopa The Lizard remains a divisive issue, even after this trailer. He’s only seen in bits and pieces, but the few glimpses leave something to be desired. Hopefully the final FX work will make a difference. That said, looks aside, the sheer size and scale of the Lizard is something to admire. It holds great potential for some spectacular skyscraping scraps between Spidey and his reptilian nemesis, and we’re holding out hope that the epic battles compensate for lackluster creature design.
