The Cast of Community Reimagined as The Avengers

Jeff Bridges Shaves His Beard For An SNL Promo, Because Why Not?

I’ve found Saturday Night Live a tremendous bore this season, but it’s hard to beat the pure Dadaist thrill of the most random promo I’ve ever seen. Jeff Bridges shaves his beard. That’s it. That’s brilliant. Video after the jump.

Awards, Awards, Awards: Critics Choice Blacks Out, NY Critics Weighing In

Awards! So many awards. What will we do with all these awards? Awards everywhere! Awards in your refrigerator, awards in your morning coffee. Awards clogging the 405 and the Holland Tunnel. Sarah Palin shot and killed an award last night on TV. The Metrodome roof didn’t collapse under the weight of snow, as you’ve heard; it was actually from a storm that dumped 17 inches of awards on Minneapolis. And now look: More awards!

Get to Know the Characters of True Grit with 4 New Clips

These four clips from the Coen Brothers’ True Grit are a welcome departure from the numerous “advanced clips” these days, which often turn out to be variations on scenes that played out more economically in the trailer. Here, we get a nice sense of the style of the movie as well as an engaging introduction to each of the major characters. My personal favorite is the first argument between Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, which honestly doesn’t do much to back up the Coens’ claim that the film is departure in tone . But that’s not necessarily a bad thing…

VIDEO: Learn the New Rules of Fight Club in the Bollywood Remake Teaser

Good news! You can now talk about Fight Club to your heart’s content. The bad news? It gets a little more complicated after that. This teaser for the Bollywood remake of David Fincher’s ode to mid-life nihilism lays out five new rules for members, and while some are totally rational (You now need a valid reason for a fight.), others just left me confused. I’m particularly intrigued by number three which is known only as “The Left Hand Rule.” The character talking about it does hold up his left hand, but otherwise I’m completely baffled. And does rule number one for this film negate the left hand rule anyway? Check all of them out and weigh in on the practicality and fairness of The Left Hand Rule after the jump.

True Grit: A Revenge Movie for the Whole Family?

Sure, the trailers portray the Coen Brothers’ True Grit as a foreboding revenge piece “from the directors of No Country for Old Men ,” but the duo says that the PG-13 movie is actually modeled after Treasure Island and other adventure films they saw as kids. They also claim the film is tonally different than anything they’ve done before, and fits perfectly with a holiday release date. So perhaps a Western-revenge tale you can take your daughter to has finally arrived. Review embargo breaks today, so stay tuned…[ USA Today ]

An Eclectic Cast Plays Russian Roulette in the 13 Trailer

Watching the trailer for this American remake of the nifty minimalist French thriller 13 Tzameti is a bit frustrating. It looks remarkably similar to the original film, and the fact that Géla Babluani directed both versions only adds to my suspicion that this remake is unnecessary and probably kind of dull. But then there’s the cast. And the fact that watching Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent, Sam Riley and Jason Statham play Russian Roulette under Michael Shannon’s supervision may actually be enough to get me to watch the same movie again.
