Weekend Receipts: Thor Hammers The Box Office Competition

It was a weekend for the gods as Thor had a divine debut at number one, kicking off the summer of super heroes to a solid start. The vroom-vroom-smash of Fast Five took a steep plunge to number two while Jumping the Broom had a surprisingly strong showing at number three. Weekend Receipts: Rio Soars To First Again, Narrowly Above Madea’s Big Happy Family

The brightly-plumaged birds of paradise edged out the mad black woman as Rio took the top spot again, with Madea’s Big Happy Family following close behind at number two. The olde-timey circus of R. Pattz and Reese Witherspoon’s Water For Elephants pulled into number three while the wild tabbies of African Cats settled into sixth place. Your weekend receipts are here.

At Tribeca: Robert De Niro Talks Scorsese Reunion, SNL Hosting and the GOP’s ‘Big Hustle’

One of the hotter tickets of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival got attendees into today’s conversation between festival co-founder Robert De Niro and NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. The latter acknowledged that he pitched the event to organizers as a unabashed De Niro fan, and the sprawling subject matter of the hour-long chat — from the Oscar-winner’s school plays to a hilarious anticlimax involving his middle name — yielded more than a few revelations for Williams and the rest of us. On Wednesday , Warner Bros. released a slew of stills from Green Lantern , most highlighting star Ryan Reynolds’ CGI -enhanced physique (and ridiculous-looking Gatling gun). Of course Reynolds’ Hal Jordan isn’t the only star in this big-budget franchise starter — the CGI creation that is Tomar-Re as gets major placement, too… and he’s voiced by Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush ! Is Joel Edgerton Bourne to Replace Matt Damon? [UPDATE: Nope]

Sinister news in the rumor yard, dear teens: Since Matt Damon ditched the series, Aussie actor Joel Edgerton (of Animal Kingdom ) may be cast as an agent named Martin who was part of a Treadstone-like program in the upcoming Bourne Legacy . Director Tony Gilroy reportedly wants Edgerton for the role, but the studio is concerned about his fame level and potential to star in the concurrently filmed Snow White movie (now that Hugh Jackman has dropped out). I’m personally ready for a female Bourne. Is it too late to suggest Marion Cotillard? In a flak jacket? And sensible trousers? UPDATE : Our pal Jeremy Renner got the part! [ Deadline ]

In 30 Minutes or Less , Eisenberg plays a pizza delivery guy kidnapped by wannabe criminals (Ruben Fleischer and Danny McBride) who recruits his best friend (Aziz Ansari) to help the team rob banks.
