His career has taken many turns. So has his personal life. But Charlie Sheen recently admitted in an interview with Matt Lauer that he isn’t even sure who that reckless moron from the first half of 2011 was, and now he’s asking TV viewers for another chance. A 24th, by the actor’s count. So Sheen jokes – it’s not really a joke, is it? – in the following trailer, which promotes the June 28 premiere of his upcoming FX comedy, Anger Management . The star anchors the sitcom as an athlete-turned-therapist. Will you give Sheen the opportunity he so desires? Watch the latest promo now and then decide: Anger Management Preview
Let’s give Jennifer Love Hewitt a lot of credit: the actress isn’t even trying to pretend any longer. Why should you tune in for this actress’ upcoming new show on Lifetime, The Client List ? Not for the acting, not for the storyline, not for the production value. JLH made the reason clear in this scantily-clad promotional video for the April 8 premiere and now she’s doing it again in a new poster for the series: The Client List will air on Sunday nights and center on a single mother who takes over control of a brothel. We’ll certainly be tuning in. Or at least staring at this picture for the next few hours.
The CW has tracked down its Carrie Bradshaw. Relatively unknown actress AnnaSophia Robb ( Soul Surfer , Charlie and the Chocolate Factor ) has landed this highly sought after role. She’ll portray a teenage version of the character Sarah Jessica Parker made famous on The Carrie Diaries , an upcoming pilot based on Candance Bushnell’s prequel of a novel. The series will follow around Carrie during her high school days in New York City and be set in the 1980s. It had originally been pitched as a movie – with Blake Lively, Selena Gomez and Elizabeth Olsen in key roles – but The CW swept in a few weeks ago and purchased the television script rights. What do you think of Robb as Carrie Bradshaw?
Mitt Romney is suddenly looking for win #2 in a row rather than #3. While the former Massachusetts governor appeared to eke out a slim eight-vote win in the Iowa caucus on January 3, the Des Moines Register reports that the final count of the vote puts former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum ahead by 34. After a long night of vote-counting, Romney appeared to post the slimmest-ever margin of victory in Iowa, but GOP officials discovered inaccuracies in 131 precincts, not all of which affected the final vote, but which threw the race to Santorum. Rick Santorum won 29,839 votes to Mitt Romney’s 29,805. In essence, state GOP officials said, Iowa’s results come down to a virtual tie, or “split decision.” NBC News will still not declare a winner in the Iowa caucus, saying with results from eight precincts out of 1,774 missing, it is impossible to know who won. Nevertheless, Santorum declared victory today after the updated results were posted. What does this mean going forward? Not much. Romney put up a decisive victory in New Hampshire Jan. 10, while Santorum has faded fast since Iowa. It does deprive Romney of bragging rights, though, and the story could help dissuade primary voters in South Carolina that he is the inevitable nominee. South Carolina’s critical primary is Saturday, with Romney looking to hold off a surging Newt Gingrich, who shot past Santorum after Monday’s debate. Newt got more good news today with Rick Perry dropping out and throwing his support behind him – and in essence giving him more screen time at tonight’s debate. Then again, Marianne Gingrich also started doing interviews.
Following chatter that it may become a movie, The Carrie Diaries – Candace Bushenll’s prequel novel to Sex and the City – has instead been picked up as a pilot for The CW and will likely be included on that network’s fall schedule. In other words: the search for a new Carrie Bradshaw is on! The story follows Carrie as a high school student in Manhattan and, via earlier rumors, Blake Lively was supposedly up the the iconic lead role . But she’ll be on Gossip Girl when the series premieres and is likely to test out a movie career once that show is finished. Who does that leave for Carrie? We’ve listed four suggestions below and are open to others. Who do you think is the best fit?
We’ve compared co-stars ( Modern Family ‘s Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara ). We did a showdown of screen legends ( Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren ). We’ve pitted sisters against each other ( Emily and Zooey Deschanel ). Now it’s time for … hot namesakes who once dated Derek Jeter! Okay, a bit of a stretch for a Fashion Face-Off featuring Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel. But both attended the Golden Globe Awards last night and we have images of them, so we encourage you to vote for your favorite style star in the poll below!
Not that many women can blame her, but Angelina Jolie raised some eyebrows with a risque remark about Brad Pitt before the Golden Globes last night. While Brangelina were both the model of sophistication during interviews, Jolie let her guard down towards the end of her trip down the red carpet. Asked what she was most looking forward to from the evening, the Associated Press says she winked and whispered: “Getting into bed with Brad.” The best part of the Golden Globes for Angie? The after-after party, in bed! Jolie did not get into specifics regarding their bedtime routine or discuss whether Brad’s cane makes an appearance between the sheets, if you know what we mean. We mean he got hurt recently and walks with a cane. Despite the A-list roster of attendees, the Golden Globes have a reputation for being much more laid back and fun than the Oscars that follow in February. To that end, Jolie’s quip about Brad was one of several priceless celebrity moments from the Beverly Hilton Hotel that television viewers never got to see. The audience did see plenty of quality moments, though, from Ricky Gervais’ off-color monologue to Seth Rogen’s massive erection confession . [Photo: WENN.com]
Charlie Sheen is on his way back into our living room: his FX sitcom premieres in June. What made that network take a chance on the troubled actor? President and general manager John Landgraf was asked this question by reporters yesterday at the Television Critics Association press tour and said he was “as skeptical as you might imagine” when he first walked in to a pitch meeting with Sheen. But then… “I saw [a very different Charlie Sheen] in the room, and what I heard was a really good pitch for a comedy series – funny, complicated, and I think the character that Charlie ought to be playing at this point.” Sheen claims he’s no longer a crazy person , and Landgraf is banking on the public being as forgiving of the star’s crazy actions as he’s trying to be. “I believe in redemption,” the executive said. “If the project that came in was one that took no notice or made no reference to or had no consciousness of everything that went before it, and Charlie seemed to have no consciousness of it, that would have been a different matter from my standpoint, because that would have been supporting the perpetuation of something. But, in my view, that’s precisely not what Charlie and [executive producer] Bruce Helford want to do, and I’m all for giving them the opportunity to turn things around.” [Photo: Pacific Coast News]
Regis Philbin’s replacement on ABC could be Rob Lowe, reports say. Lowe just finished a two-day stint guest hosting with Kelly Ripa and an ABC source says the top network brass “loved the chemistry between them.” Network executives have spoken with Lowe’s reps about making it a permanent gig, but Lowe, who stars on Parks and Recreation , is non-committal. There’s a big surprise. One of the more itinerant actors around, Lowe has departed in the middle of numerous programs’ runs in pursuit of other projects. Rob was just asked by TMZ whether he’s moving to New York. He said: “We were just talking about that. I love New York. I love the energy. It would be a change of pace. I’m a California boy, but it could be fun.” Thoughts? Rob Lowe replacing Regis Philbin …
