Jackson Rathbone Relives ‘Breaking Dawn’ Screening

‘As soon as Taylor ripped off his shirt, we all tried to yell as much as possible,’ he laughs to MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News In addition to the whole fame-and-fortune package that comes with being a member of the “Twilight” cast, one of the additional benefits is that you get to see the finished film before anyone else. When MTV News caught up with “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” star Jackson Rathbone recently, we asked him to talk about his first-time viewing experience. “I got a nice little private screening,” Rathbone said. “There were about six [castmembers] in the theater. I was saying, ‘This is what it would be like watching “Twilight” if no one liked it,’ ” he joked. “If it had failed, that’s exactly what it would have been like: six people in the theater.” In all seriousness, however, Rathbone said he and his co-stars had a lot of fun watching the film together and interacting with the screen. “As soon as Taylor [Lautner] ripped off his shirt, we all tried to yell as much as possible to supplement the lack of little teenage girls [screaming],” he said. “It was fun. We had a good time with it. Nikki [Reed] and I were making fun of each other the whole movie. Any time one of us would come onscreen, we’d poke each other,” he said with a laugh. In addition to those swoon-worthy shirtless moments, Lautner has promised us that we’ll be shedding some tears. “You are going to face a lot of emotions, definitely,” he teased. “You are going to be angry. I guarantee you [that] you will cry multiple times.” Tonight, join MTV.com live from the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” red-carpet premiere as we talk to your favorite stars about all things “Twilight”! Bill Condon on Breaking Dawn, Bella as Bride of Frankenstein and Twilight’s ‘Gay Sensibility’

Every director who’s gone through the whirlwind circus that is filming and releasing a Twilight movie eventually gets to relax and breathe a sigh of relief, but Bill Condon ( Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls ) still has miles and miles to go. Fans and critics will finally see what the Oscar-winner brings to the YA vampire franchise when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hits theaters Nov. 18, but if they find themselves displeased with his treatment of Stephenie Meyer’s beloved novel, it could be a tough year’s wait until Condon’s simultaneously-shot series ender ( Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ) concludes the series next fall.

Robert Pattinson Relishes Kristen Stewart’s Contact-Lens Discomfort

Stewart didn’t understand why her co-star complained about his ‘Twilight’ vampire contacts until she had to wear her own. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Entertainment Aside from ending what has been roughly five years of hard work and incredibly pale skin, “Breaking Dawn” brought a different type of satisfaction to Robert Pattinson . The end of the “Twilight Saga” meant that his co-star Kristen Stewart would finally understand the pain he’s had to endure the entire time they’ve spent shooting the films. It’s not a great spoiler to say that Stewart’s Bella will become a bloodthirsty, red-eyed vampire at some point during the two-part finale, whose first installment opens on November 18. This has been a long time coming for Bella, the fans and, it turns out, Pattinson. Getting into character meant a change of eye color for Stewart and some vindication for her co-star. In the nicest way possible, Pattinson explained to MTV News’ Josh Horowitz that knowing Stewart would have to experience the discomfort of his vampire contact lenses was “a great feeling.” Stewart had her own set of contacts to wear as the human version of Bella to turn her eyes brown, but those apparently did not hurt, unlike the gold contacts that Pattinson had worn since the beginning of the series. “She’s like, ‘I wear contact lenses. Why do you always complain about yours?’ ” Pattinson said. When Stewart finally did change into her vampire eyes, Pattinson got what he had been waiting for. “When she finally wore them and then was complaining about them every second of the day,” he admitted, “it was kind of satisfying.” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” hits theaters on November 18. Luckily, we still have more than three months until the live telecast on February 26, and more than a month until nominations are announced. The latest news coming straight from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is that Brett Ratner, who tendered his resignation on Tuesday, has been replaced with producer Brian Grazer , who will co-produce the telecast with industry veteran Don Mischer. “Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work,” Academy president Tom Sherak said in a statement posted on Oscars.org . “He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars.” “I am thrilled to welcome Brian Grazer as my partner and that we will be collaborating to produce an outstanding show,” echoed Mischer in the statement. “It’s very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career,” said Grazer. “Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him.” Grazer’s credentials seem a good fit for producing Hollywood’s “biggest night.” He’s been nominated four times (for writing “Splash,” and Best Picture nods for “Apollo 13” and “Frost/Nixon.”) and won the Best Picture Oscar in 2001 for “A Beautiful Mind.” Coincidentally, Grazer has worked with recently resigned host, Eddie Murphy , on “The Nutty Professor” and “Tower Heist.” Rumor has it that the Academy and Grazer hope that Murphy will reconsider his decision not to be involved in the program. Eddie Murphy Steps Down As Oscar Host

Announcement follows Brett Ranter’s exit as Academy Awards producer. By Kara Warner Eddie Murphy Photo: Getty Images Just one day after Brett Ratner announced his exit as producer , the 2012 Academy Awards have lost another key participant: host Eddie Murphy . According to a statement from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak, Murphy didn’t want to continue with the gig after the loss of Ratner. “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well,” Sherak said. The “Tower Heist” star didn’t specifically address his reasons for resigning, but said he is sorry things didn’t work out for everyone involved. “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony,” Murphy said in the statement. “I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.” Ratner submitted his resignation to the Academy on Tuesday after making headlines with his recent comments about a sexual relationship with actress Olivia Munn and, at a screening of “Heist,” using a gay slur, claiming, “Rehearsal is for f–s.” “Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances,” he wrote in a letter to the entertainment industry. “To them, and to everyone I’ve hurt and offended, I’d like to apologize publicly and unreservedly.” No word yet on who is in talks to replace Ratner or Murphy. Robert Pattinson Was ‘Delusional’ Before ‘Twilight’

So where would he be without the franchise? ‘Probably dead,’ he jokes to MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Where would Robert Pattinson be without “Twilight” and the undead character that made him a household name? “Probably dead,” he laughed to MTV News. Pattinson sat down with Josh Horowitz to look back on what the series has been for him both as an actor and as a person, and he said that without the vampire series, he doesn’t know what would have happened to him. For a while, the London-born actor didn’t know whether acting was for him and struggled with the question of continuing to appear in front of the camera. “I think a lot of actors think about that all the time,” he said. Pattinson said it has to do with the constant focus on an actor’s insecurities that drive people like him to question the profession. “You have to confront your insecurities quite a lot, and I have plenty, plenty of insecurities,” he laughed. “Even more [now]. Before, you could kind of bullsh– yourself all the time.” For him, obscurity allows for a little less honesty when it comes to self-image. “If no one cares about you, you can be like, ‘I’m the greatest person in the whole world,’ ” he said. “You can be completely delusional.” At 25, Pattinson said there is not even a small sense of vanity anymore. He said he hadn’t patted himself on the back for his looks in a while and that it’s to the point where he is “almost sick at the sight of [himself]. I’m getting older as well. I’m almost 50.” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” hits theaters November 18. Robert Pattinson And Taylor Lautner: What’s Next?

We go through the ‘Twilight’ stars’ rumored projects to see what’s really happening. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson at “MTV First: Breaking Dawn” Photo: MTV News While we would be more than happy to continue to watch “Twilight” leading men Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner go on playing their star-making roles of Edward Cullen and Jacob Black forever, we only have two more movies to go before they retire their big-screen vampire and werewolf statuses for good. The good news is that in addition to the two-part “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” both Pattinson and Lautner have plenty of film projects lined up to keep them up on the silver screen for the next few years. When MTV News caught up with Pattinson and Lautner during “MTV First: Breaking Dawn,” we played rumor patrol with their post-“Twilight” dockets. First up, Lautner is rumored to be teaming up with Oscar winner Gus Van Sant to make a small-budget film based on a nonfiction article from The New Yorker. What is the status of that film? “Gus is an incredible director. I would love to have the opportunity to work with him,” Lautner said. “Things are a little premature right now, but he’s amazing.” We’ll pencil in a “TBD” on that one. Next up, there are murmurs that Pattinson is up for the lead role in a Jeff Buckley biopic and that he’s being considered for the big-screen adaptation of the Green Day musical “American Idiot.” “The Jeff Buckley thing, I just love Jeff Buckley’s music,” he offered as a possible explanation for how his name became attached. ” ‘American Idiot,’ I don’t know where that came from,” Pattinson continued, at which point we let him know that lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong had mentioned Pattinson’s name back in 2009. “Really? That’s pretty cool,” Pattinson said. So for those keeping score, Lautner might be doing a movie with Gus Van Sant, someday, and Pattinson has no idea about Jeff Buckley or “American Idiot.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson Calls Taylor Lautner Ab Comparison ‘Unfair’

‘I realized [my abs] weren’t as good as Taylor’s, so I just ate every bit of chocolate,’ Pattinson laughs during ‘MTV First.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner’s abs Photo: Summit Much ado is made over the handsomeness of the leading men of “Twilight” — Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner — particularly when it comes to the subject of their being shirtless in any way, shape or form. Their fervent fans know from reading Stephenie Meyer’s books and seeing the first two trailers that there is plenty of shirtlessness in store for them when “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1” opens November 18. MTV News was lucky enough to sit down with the two heartthrobs during “MTV First: Breaking Dawn” on Thursday, during which we asked a fan-submitted question about how they prep for their shirtless scenes. “No M&M’s,” said Kristen Stewart, who was seated between her co-stars. “Yeah, I didn’t eat any candy and I didn’t drink any beer for a while,” Pattinson said of his health-conscious prep. “I went kind of nuts. Me and Kristen went nuts working out, because we hadn’t worked out for any of [the previous films],” he admitted. Then, upon noticing that his shirtless photo was being held up next to Lautner’s, RPattz took offense in the comparison. “This is so unfair doing a comparison. Everyone says I painted on my abs in [‘New Moon’] — I did not! Taylor has his painted on too!” he accused with a laugh. “What?” Lautner responded. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand this.” Pattinson stopped his playful ribbing of Lautner for a moment to finish answering the question about his diet before shirtless scenes are filmed. “I had it for, like, two weeks,” he said of his abs, with Stewart agreeing and adding that they gave up being healthy immediately after their skin-showing scenes were wrapped. “As soon as I didn’t have to be shirtless anymore [my good habits were] gone immediately,” Pattinson continued. “During [filming in] Brazil, the day before I had to do my shirtless scene, I realized [my abs] weren’t as good as Taylor’s, so I just ate every bit of chocolate in the mini-bar. I started eating cheeseburgers and stuff.” Stick with MTV News for much more from our exclusive Q&A with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner! ‘Breaking Dawn’ Sex Scene ‘Super Serious,’ Robert Pattinson Jokes

‘It’s not just human sex. It’s … obviously blown a little bit out of proportion,’ Kristen Stewart adds on ‘MTV First.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News Of all the moments fans are eagerly awaiting to see after “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” hits theaters on November 18 — the wedding and infamous birth scene included — few can measure up to the hype surrounding Edward and Bella’s first sex scene. When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz sat down with Kristen Stewart , Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner for “MTV First” and asked the cast questions submitted via Twitter, it was no surprise that the fans wanted to know more. One of the first questions asked was: “Rob and Kristen, was it extremely awkward filming the love scene in the movie? Were you guys laughing a lot throughout?” Both Stewart and Pattinson turned quiet after hearing the question, and the answer was unanimous and definitely a joke. “Super serious,” Pattinson said. “Yeah, me too,” Stewart agreed. The mood was certainly lighthearted and jokey, but Stewart ended up giving the question a serious answer. “Not to give anything away … You’ve been working for so long, and it’s also not real,” Stewart said. “It’s not just human sex. It’s … obviously blown a little bit out of proportion, slightly. It’s kind of like the most important scene in the movie. It’s so weird.” Pattinson agreed and shared his own, let’s say, intimate experiences filming the love scene. “I just ended up thinking purely about vanity things,” Pattinson said. “You’re sitting there in a little g-string. … They give me a big g-string, but it was too small for me. It was like old ham.” Not to be left out, Lautner shared his relief to have missed out on a g-stringing in “Breaking Dawn,” but reminded everyone that he had his “fair share of g-strings in ‘Eclipse.’ ” Stick with MTV News for much more from our exclusive Q&A with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner!
