Oksana Grigorieva Source Describes Mel Gibson Rampage; Says Star Threatened to Hit Baby

Did Mel Gibson threaten to hit his own daughter? That’s the latest allegation from her mother and his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva in their ugly feud. According to Oksana, Mel said he would “hit” little Lucia, their baby girl, during an explosive blow-up with his ex-lover, saying “‘Take her! I will hit her!” A February 18 incident was the catalyst for Oksana to walk out on the star, taking their daughter with her. Many, many irate Mel Gibson rants followed. The day after, Mel supposedly texted her to say he ” wasn’t safe for you last night.” His nicotine withdrawal may be responsible, in part, for the rampage. On the 18th, Mel and Oksana gathered in the lush grounds of the actor’s Malibu mansion, for a tree-and-placenta planting ceremony in honor of Lucia. But what should have been a joyous occasion turned ugly, Oksana says, when Mel became angry, accusing her of “smiling too much” at the gardener. Was Oksana Grigorieva checking out the gardener? “Oksana has recounted that Lucia began crying, so she went back inside – and Mel followed her in,” a source, familiar with Oksana’s testimony, reveals. “When they got inside, Mel started ridiculing Okana’s accent … In response, she said she rolled her eyes at Mel, which made him even more angry.” The source said Grigorieva apologized to an irate Mel and “begged for forgiveness,” but Mel responded that Oksana was always irritated with him. “Oksana said she told Mel that his comment was she was only irritated when he accused her of smiling at the gardener and made fun of her accent.” Grigorieva then recalled : “This set off Mel and he flew into a rage.” In the hours that followed, Mel returned to the house, after leaving for a break, at which point, “Oksana said Mel told her he needed to leave the house again, in order to show her and Lucia what ‘mean’ really is,” said the source. “He also supposedly told Oksana, in regards to Lucia, ‘Take her! I will hit her. I have got to go,’” and Oksana took him at his word, taking Lucia to one of Mel’s other properties, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He then started to call. And call … and call, and call … Oksana had already accused Gibson of hitting Lucia and bruising her face during on January 6, the same night he allegedly punched her mother. The 40-year-old Russian beauty was holding the baby when the star supposedly slugged her in the face, causing damage to two of her teeth. As he did this, he also allegedly hit baby Lucia, bruising her chin. The abuse photos of Oksana surfacing online have been cast doubt upon, however, as she reportedly did not produce them during her mediation sessions with the actor. Gibson has not been charged with a crime, denies ever assaulting Oksana, and has accused her of trying to extort him for money with the tapes. Who do you believe?

Why ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ Is Set For Fall 2012, Not Summer

Summit, film analysts refute rumors that release date was based on ‘Eclipse’ box-office performance. By Eric Ditzian Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Last month, as “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” got off to a stellar (if not record-breaking) start at the box office, MTV News squashed the widely held assumption that the second part of “Breaking Dawn” would definitely arrive in the summer of 2012. As Summit Entertainment exec Richie Fay told us, the studio was exploring multiple dates in mid- to late 2012, not just possible openings that would fall when school’s out of session. Now, Summit has officially announced that “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” will open November 2012 , and with that, another assumption seems to be taking hold among fans and on the Web: After “Eclipse” failed to wildly out-gross “New Moon” at the box office, Summit got spooked about a summer release date and fled to more familiar autumn territory. But based on our conversations with Summit and box-office analysts, that’s simply not the case. First off, it’s important to note that despite all this talk about a weaker-than-expected performance for “Eclipse,” its $289 million haul will eventually surpass the $297 million that “New Moon” pulled in last fall, according to Box Office Mojo . When you consider that sequels like “Shrek Forever After” and “Sex and the City 2” underperformed in the crowded summer-movie season, Summit has to be extremely pleased with the box-office business of “Eclipse.” So if it’s not a fear of summer that persuaded Summit to deliver both “Breaking Dawn” films in the fall, then what was it? A careful examination of the 2012 summer calendar. “The lesson is that it’s all about positioning a film at a time when it will face as little direct competition as possible,” explained Phil Contrino, editor of BoxOffice.com . “Summit was wise to stay away from summer 2012, because it’s shaping up to be a record-breaking season.” “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3” and “Men in Black 3” are all set to drop that May, followed by “Star Trek 2” in June, and then new installments of “Spider-Man” (which already occupies the Fourth of July slot held this year by “Eclipse”), “Ice Age” and “Batman.” “Why compete with an amazing slate like that if you don’t have to?” Contrino added. “I’m sure ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ would still open very well during a summer that crowded, but its audience would be devoured very quickly.” The point, then, is not that summer is a poor time to release a “Twilight” film but that fall simply presents less competition, which is not to say that there will be no box-office battle in autumn. “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” is set to open against “Happy Feet 2” on November 18, 2011, while the second in the two-part finale will compete with “Monsters Inc. 2” on November 16, 2012. But when you consider the more jam-packed summer season and the fact that an entire year will have passed between “Twilight” flicks — as opposed to the eight months between “New Moon” and “Eclipse” — the fall 2012 release date makes perfect sense. “There’s a mood and spirit to these movies that make them play really well in the fall. They’re darker, they’re more emotional than standard summer fare, and thematically, fall is a great fit,” said John Singh, a box-office analyst for Flixster . “It also allows the audience to build even greater anticipation — rather than seeing the follow-up just a few months later. This gives them a full year to anticipate the final film in a series that has generated hugely positive response from its fanbase.” How do you feel about the two “Breaking Dawn” films opening a year apart? ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ To Be Released November 2012

‘Twilight Saga’ finale avoids glut of summer blockbusters with fall release. By Kara Warner “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner Photo: John Gress/ Getty Images For better or worse, the end is in sight, Twilighters. Summit Entertainment has announced the official release date for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2.” The final film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series is scheduled to open in theaters on November 16, 2012. When Summit revealed that “Breaking Dawn” would be split into two films — with the first film’s release date set for November 18, 2011 #&8212; there was much speculation that the final chapter would drop the following summer. This news puts the second film out almost a full year after Part 1, no doubt creating an excruciating waiting period for the film franchise’s extremely dedicated fans. With no official statement accompanying the news of Part 2’s release date, we, too, can only speculate as to why Summit has chosen to wait a full year between releasing the two films. One likely reason is the already-crowded summer 2012 movie calendar, which has been padded with several other highly anticipated and established franchise films. “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3” and “Men in Black 3” all open in May; June will deliver a “Star Trek” sequel; the re-booted “Spider-Man” is nestled in the July 4 slot (occupied this year by “Eclipse”), followed closely by another “Ice Age” and a third “Batman.” Now that both films’ release dates are set, there are a few other unresolved “Dawn” issues, namely the MPAA rating and whether director Bill Condon will choose to film the two parts in 3-D. “That decision has yet to be made,” Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV of the rating question last month. “It’s still the source of a discussion.” The 3-D conversation, on the other hand, involves both financial and creative decisions. “There’s certainly a financial part of the discussion,” Ray said. “And yes, there’s a certain amount of technology that has to be considered and accounted for. But it really comes down to the creative folks. “In any of these roundtable conversations, [Summit CEO] Rob Friedman has always been concerned about the ‘Twilight’ patron,” Fay added. “His concern is always the people that come in to see this movie. He doesn’t want to turn them off or offend. That’s why it’s a creative decision. A big factor is the perception of our audience. What are their feelings going to be? If it lends itself to being a better movie because of 3-D, then that’s the technology we’ll use.” What do you think of the “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” release date? How painful will the almost one-year wait be for you? Let us know in the comments! Eminem Tops Billboard For Third Week

Drake holds steady at #2, while Big Boi’s solo debut comes in at #3. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Now that Eminem is back on top of the charts, it looks like Slim Shady isn’t planning on budging anytime soon. For the third week in a row, Em’s Recovery will hold on to the pole position this week, moving another 229,000 copies to push the disc close to the 1.3 million mark, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Also not budging is Drake , whose Thank Me Later holds steady in the #2 spot thanks to 74,000 more units served for a one-month total of more than 782,000. Coming in at the #3 position is the long-delayed official solo debut of Outkast’s Big Boi , Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, which sold 62,000 copies. At #10 is the latest from Enrique Iglesias, Euphoria, which had a soft landing of 27,000. The rest of the top 10: Muse may be suddenly ambivalent about their placement in the vampire movies, but “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” soundtrack holds in there at #4 with sales of 45,000 for a five-week total just shy of 350,000. Justin Bieber is also mostly steady at #5 with My World 2.0 (43,000), followed by Now 34 (#6, 33,000), Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea (#7, 30,000), Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame (#8, 29,000) and Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now (#9, 28,000). Though duet partner Miley Cyrus continues to move in the opposite direction with her more mature Can’t Be Tamed, dropping two spots to #11 on sales of 24,000, rejuvenated Poison rocker Bret Michaels has a decent showing at #14 with Custom Built, which debuts with 22,000. Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue is still trying to crack the code in America, as her Aphrodite sneaks into the top 20 at #19 on sales of 18,000. Meanwhile, jokey Colorado rap duo 3OH!3 shed 63 percent of their first-week business for Streets of Gold, dropping 16 spots to #23 (15,000). Incubus singer Brandon Boyd ‘s solo debut, The Wild Trapeze, swings in at #3 (11,000), Kelis ‘ hyped Flesh Tone album barely makes it into the top 50 at #48 (8,000) and Juvenile has to settle for a #58 debut for his Beast Mode (6,000). It continues to be all about Eminem on the iTunes charts as well. He holds on to the #1 position on the albums and singles tallies, as the Rihanna duet “Love the Way You Lie” climbs back into the single lead over Katy Perry ‘s Snoop Dogg-assisted “California Gurls.” The rest of the singles top 10 is mostly a reshuffling of the deck, with Iglesias coming in at #4 with “I Like It,” just behind Taio Cruz ‘s “Dynamite.” The rest of the singles list includes B.o.B (“Airplanes”), Travie McCoy (“Billionaire”), Mike Posner (“Cooler Than Me”), Jason Derulo (“Ridin’ Solo”), Eminem (“Not Afraid”) and Usher (“OMG”). (iTunes does not release sales figures for its charts.) Things get shaken up a bit more on the iTunes album chart, where Boi snags the #2 spot, followed by the “Eclipse” soundtrack, Drake, Boyd, Johnson, Minogue, Lady Gaga, Iglesias and a Daughtry compilation called Leave This Town: The B-Sides. Eminem’s probably safe for another week on the Billboard countdown, as the only competition in the rearview mirror will come from Korn , M.I.A. , a solo Sting , metal supergroup Hellyeah and the revamped Crowded House . ‘Despicable Me’ Supervillains Triumph Over ‘Eclipse’

Steve Carell’s animated flick takes #1 at the box office, beating the ‘Twilight’ sequel and ‘Predators.’ By Josh Wigler “Despicable Me” Photo: Universal The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Despicable Me” ($60.1 million) #2 “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ($33.4 million) #3 “Predators” ($25.3 million) #4 “Toy Story 3” ($22 million) #5 “The Last Airbender” ($17.2 million) Audiences clearly didn’t despise “Despicable Me” this weekend, as Universal’s latest family-friendly animated flick won the top spot at the box office over rivals “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Predators.” “Despicable Me” stars Steve Carell as Gru, a diabolical supervillain with an army of minions at his disposal. The tale of a bad guy gone good was widely embraced by audiences across the country, rocketing “Despicable Me” to an unexpected $60.1 million first-place finish. With a production budget of $69 million, “Despicable Me” is quite the lovely new property for Universal, with franchise potential going forward. With a domestic weekend worth $33.4 million, the third “Twilight” film has earned a massive $237 million in the U.S. since opening on June 30, with an even greater $456 million worldwide total. Beyond “Despicable Me,” the weekend’s other major new release was “Predators,” producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal’s resurrection of the languishing science-fiction franchise. Starring Adrien Brody as one of several mercenaries abducted by aliens and turned into prey for the titular creatures, “Predators” managed a solid $25.3 million opening domestically and $18 million overseas, surpassing its $40 million production budget with a $43.3 million worldwide total. “Toy Story 3” and “The Last Airbender” finished in fourth and fifth place with $22 million and $17.2 million, respectively. The weekend’s highest per screen averaged belonged to newcomer “The Kids Are All Right,” scoring a walloping $72,143 per screen at just seven locations.
