Michael Musto’s Man on the Street: Lesbian vs. Predator

Fresh from braving the gyno-storm of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse , our man on the street Michael Musto further dipped his oars in the lady-filled waters of The Kids Are All Right . Michael’s pressing question this week is, in a steel cage, no-holds-barred grudge match, who makes the better lesbian, Annette Bening or Julianne Moore? It seems like Benning’s got the edge, but Moore’s not without her fans. But are there a few stereotypical sapphic trappings that both Moore and Benning lack in the movie? Click through to find out.

‘Breaking Dawn’ To Film In Louisiana And Vancouver

Summit Entertainment has announced two locales for the two-part ‘Twilight Saga’ ending. By Eric Ditzian Jacob (Taylor Lautner) is waiting for Bella in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Entertainment “Breaking Dawn” will be filmed in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Vancouver, Canada, Summit Entertainment announced on Friday (July 9). Split into two separate films but being shot simultaneously, the production will ramp up in the fall and continue over the next year. No exact start date for filming was given. The first film will be released on November 18, 2011. No official release date for the second part has been set, but as a Summit exec told MTV News this week, the studio is exploring multiple dates in 2012, both in the summer and later that year. Many other questions remain about “Breaking Dawn,” the most intriguing of which is the 3-D question: Will it either be shot using 3-D cameras or converted to 3-D during post-production? Summit tells MTV News that such discussions are currently under way, but that no decision has yet been made. Much of the cast is onboard with the 3-D idea , including Kristen Stewart . “I’m probably speaking out of line or whatever, but I think it would be awesome,” she told MTV News. “Nobody knows what it’s like to look through the eyes of a vampire. What if [Bella] opens her eyes to this extraordinary world? It could be cool.” Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”) will direct both parts of “Breaking Dawn,” taking over for “Eclipse” director David Slade. Pattinson and the rest of the cast wrapped production on “Eclipse” at the end of October 2009, which means that when the stars show up on-set for “Breaking Dawn,” about a year will have passed since they slipped into their respective roles as vampires and werewolves. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Part Two Release Date Not Set For Summer 2012

Summit exec says the final ‘Twilight’ movie’s release date is ‘still the source of discussions.’ By Eric Ditzian Stephenie Meyer’s “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Little, Brown and Company In June, Summit Entertainment announced that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will be released as two separate films , with the first part arriving on November 18, 2011. Though no release date for the second part has been announced, the conventional wisdom has been that the second part would follow in the summer of 2012. Not so fast. Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV News that no such decision has been made and that the studio is still exploring multiple release dates, not just ones in the summer. “We’ve targeted a number of dates, and we have yet to determine when it will happen,” Fay said. “We haven’t even determined that it will be the summer. It’s still the source of discussions.” Of course, studios always explore various release dates for pictures, especially established blockbusters, and the fact that Summit hasn’t committed the second “Breaking Dawn” to the summer season shouldn’t be mistaken for confusion or indecision within studio headquarters. But the 2012 summer movie calendar is rapidly filling up, not necessarily with films that widely share an audience with “Breaking Dawn,” but with established franchises or properties in their own right. That May will offer “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3” and “Men in Black 3,” while June delivers a “Star Trek” sequel. The rebooted “Spider-Man” has already nabbed the July 4th slot (occupied this year by “Eclipse”), followed closely by another “Ice Age” and a third “Batman.” Surely there’s room here for “Breaking Dawn,” but Summit now has experience releasing “Twilight” movies both in the summer and the fall. And, as Fay says, the studio might not be ready to pick a season for “Breaking Dawn” until “Eclipse” finishes up its theatrical run . “We might have a preference when we see where ‘Eclipse’ ends up,” he said of choosing one season over another. “It certainly might color our thinking, but we’re comfortable with either place. Right now, it’s a bit early in that stage of planning.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Eclipse’ Star Xavier Samuel Doesn’t Feel Pressured By Movie’s Success

‘I don’t really think about that sort of stuff,’ actor admits at ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ premiere. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Xavier Samuel attends the premiere of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” on July 6 in New York City Photo: Mike Coppola/Getty Images Xavier Samuel is on top of the world these days, thanks to the box-office success of “Eclipse,” which had a very successful first-week run in movie theaters over the Independence Day weekend. ‘Eclipse’ Has ‘Good Shot’ Of Beating ‘New Moon,’ Studio Says

Summit Entertainment is optimistic Twilighters will spend summer weekdays in theaters. By Eric Ditzian Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit With the six-day, holiday-weekend domestic box-office gross of “Eclipse” on the books — officially $176.4 million — numbers conversation of the moment turned to one tricky question: Would the latest installment of the “Twilight” franchise ultimately defeat “New Moon” and its $296.6 million haul last year? Inside the halls of Summit Entertainment, executives are confident that “Eclipse” — though it fell just short of the six-day total of “New Moon” — will eventually rank as the top-grossing “Twilight” film. At least, that is, until the first part of “Breaking Dawn” drops in November 2011. “I think we have a real good shot at it after this first week,” Summit’s distribution head Richie Fay told MTV News. “We’re not disappointed in this gross at all. It’s where we expected to be, and it hopefully gets us north of ‘New Moon.’ ” Potentially helping Summit get there is the idea that a summer release date, at a time when schools are no longer trapping Twi-hards in math class, will increase weekday grosses. But it’s not entirely clear that such a tactic is working out. “Eclipse” grossed over $10 million this Tuesday, according to Fay, which is roughly what “New Moon,” which opened on a Friday, took in on the Monday after its opening weekend. Of course, conclusions cannot be drawn after just one day, and exact comparisons are difficult to make in general, owing to the different seasons and days of each film’s release. After seven days, “New Moon” and “Eclipse” are roughly equal in terms of total box office sales. The key will be to see how “Eclipse” fares in the next few days and how it performs in its second weekend. “New Moon” was a notoriously frontloaded release — earning 48 percent of its total gross on its opening weekend — and dropped 70 percent during its second weekend. If “Eclipse” can bump sales this week and avoid a precipitous second weekend drop, the film will be well on its way to topping “New Moon.” Yet at Summit, the focus is not so much on a race to first place as it is on a continued dedication to serving a fervid fanbase. “If we lost the audience to some degree over the weekend to barbeques and fireworks, they will probably come back,” Fay said. “It’s kind of like a tsunami audience. As soon as they’ve finished viewing ‘New Moon’ in the theaters, then the DVD comes out, and right after that, ‘Eclipse’ comes out. We’re servicing that audience very nicely.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Eclipse’ Stars Surprise Fans At Theater Screenings

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed and other ‘Twilight Saga’ actors made appearances around the country over the holiday weekend. By Terri Schwartz Ashley Greene Photo: Didier Messens/ WireImage This was a very special Fourth of July weekend for “Twilight” fans, because the long weekend meant that the stars of “The Twilight Saga” films were going to be making surprise appearances at movie theaters around the country. The full list of cities (ranging from Detroit to Atlanta to Kona, Hawaii) went up on Friday , but which stars would be appearing wasn’t known until after they showed up in theaters. The biggest surprise of the weekend was when Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart greeted fans Monday night after an IMAX screening of “Eclipse” in Century City, California. “We just wanted to come and say thank you in person for making this such a great weekend,” Stewart said. Pattinson added, “I hope you liked the movie, because otherwise this would really embarrassing.” The two left quickly, but considering there was a lot of doubt that the Big Two would actually go out, the fans didn’t seem to mind. It was a cap to an exciting weekend that started with appearances Friday. Dakota Fanning also didn’t stray far from home when she made an appearance at a Los Angeles cinema, and Justin Chon only ventured down to Orange County, California. Kiowa Gordon (Embry Call) and BooBoo Stewart (Seth) went to Las Vegas, while Tyson Houseman (Quil Ateara) journeyed out of the country to Vancouver. On the other side of the country, Gil Birmingham (Billy Black) went to Kansas City to greet fans, while Tinsel Korey (Emily) went to Nashville, Christian Serratos (Angela) went to Washington, D.C., and Julia Jones (Leah Clearwater) went to Chicago. Charlie Bewley (Demetri) visited a screening in Minneapolis , telling fans at the not-quite-full Rosedale AMC theater that he was “forced to watch it at the premiere, but it was really good. I’m not the kind of guy that would go and watch ‘Twilight’ if I wasn’t in the movie … but I was really impressed with this one.” The appearances continued on Saturday, with Bewley heading over to screenings in New Jersey, Jones heading to San Francisco and Serratos to Dallas. Cameron Bright (Alec) visited three theaters in Atlanta, Jodelle Ferland (Bree) headed down to New Orleans, and Bronson Pelletier (Jared) visited theaters in Cleveland and Detroit. Taylor Lautner surprised fans at an unscheduled appearance in Pittsburgh, and Peter Facinelli traveled down to Kona, Hawaii. Nikki Reed and Xavier Samuel, who had just returned from promoting the film in Europe, went to theaters in Long Island and Manhattan, respectively. Reed answered fan questions for about 10 minutes, sharing that she was so Team Edward when they were filming “Twilight” that she was in the middle of reading “New Moon,” when Edward leaves Bella, and she found herself running around the set looking for Pattinson, thinking, “where’s Rob? I just need to see him and make sure he’s still here.” After one bad heartbreak in her life, though, she said she finds herself more aligned with Team Jacob because it’s “healthier.” There were only two scheduled appearances on Sunday, but fans said Bright didn’t make it to Toronto where he was supposed to make an appearance. Ashley Greene did head to her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, where she spent time talking to fans and signing autographs. “I just wanted to say, thank you so much for coming to see our movie. We’re really, really proud of this film,” she told the crowd . “Thank you guys.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Eclipse’ Lights Up July 4th Weekend Box Office

‘Twilight’ threequel beats out ‘The Last Airbender’ but doesn’t surpass opening numbers of its predecessor ‘New Moon.’ By Josh Wigler Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit The Box-Office Top Five #1 “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ($82.5 million) #2 “The Last Airbender” ($53.3 million) #3 “Toy Story 3” ($42.2 million) #4 “Grown Ups” ($25.9 million) #5 “Knight and Day” ($13.8 million) Whether you’re on Team Edward or Team Jacob, “Twilight” fans of all shapes, sizes and loyalties flocked to theaters this weekend to award the supernatural franchise’s latest installment, “Eclipse,” with the first-place prize at the Fourth of July holiday weekend box office. “Eclipse” took an estimated $82.5 million from Friday through Sunday, resulting in a $175.3 million cumulative total since opening on Wednesday (June 30). Having established new Hollywood records for widest-ever opening release, best midnight debut and single greatest Wednesday premiere, “Eclipse” was unable to eclipse its own predecessor’s success — “New Moon” remains the “Twilight” franchise’s champion with an opening weekend total of $178 million. Despite this, there’s no denying that “Eclipse” is already a huge hit, having surpassed its own production budget by more than $200 million thanks to the $100.2 million earned from foreign locations. Even as “Eclipse” easily took first place, director M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” managed a solid second-place finish worth $53.3 million, resulting in a cumulative total of $70.5 million since opening on Thursday. Those opening numbers aren’t as impressive when measured against the film’s reported $150 million production budget, but given the massive amount of critical backlash levied at “The Last Airbender,” the movie actually performed rather well under the circumstances. “Toy Story 3” landed in third place with $42.2 million, bringing Pixar’s latest to a massive $451.9 million worldwide total after only three weeks in theaters. Fourth and fifth place went to last weekend’s newcomers “Grown Ups” and “Knight and Day” with $25.9 million and $13.8 million, respectively. Upcoming Releases Adrien Brody tries his hand as an action hero this coming weekend in producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal’s “Predators,” while Steve Carell and Jason Segel battle it out in superhero comedy “Despicable Me.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” “The Last Airbender” and “Toy Story 3.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . What Do ‘Eclipse’ Stars Have Lined Up Before ‘Breaking Dawn’?

We have all the dirt on the ‘Twilight Saga’ cast’s downtime — or lack thereof. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage With their major promotional duties over, and the record-breaking “Eclipse” in no need of any more star power, it stands to reason that the film’s castmembers should be getting ready for some well-deserved rest and relaxation before heading back to work on “Breaking Dawn” in the fall. That’s not the case, however, as many of the popular young actors are very much in demand for film studios and audiences alike at the moment. Here’s a look at what the “Eclipse”ters are up to in their “Twilight” downtime. Taylor Lautner Taylor Lautner is in Pittsburgh filming “Abduction,” alongside Sigourney Weaver and Lily Collins, directed by John Singleton. “It’s a very real action-thriller,” Lautner told MTV News at the “Eclipse” premiere in L.A. “[It has a] great story, great cast and I start in, like, three days.” Robert Pattinson Robert Pattinson has been shooting the book-to-screen adaptation “Water for Elephants,” in which he plays a college dropout who becomes an animal caretaker for a traveling circus in the 1930s. Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz co-star. In addition to cutting his famous shaggy locks for the role, Pattinson told MTV News he’s picked up some coordination during filming. “I’ve become a little less mal-coordinated in the last couple years,” he said. “[The film has] quite a few active bits. I’m pulling around horses and stuff, and I was like, ‘When have I suddenly become capable?’ ” Kristen Stewart Kristen Stewart will be busy with “On the Road,” co-starring “Tron: Legacy” star Garret Hedlund. Stewart recently told MTV News that she’s excited to work with Hedlund. “I’ve met him a bunch of times and hung out with him twice. He’s a great guy,” she said. “He’s written crazy stuff for it. He’s so in character right now. He’s driving to Montreal [for filming]. He’s awesome. I’m really excited.” Anna Kendrick Acclaimed “Up in the Air” star Anna Kendrick (a.k.a. Jessica) next appears in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and an untitled Seth Rogen comedy, but a role Kendrick is dying for is a part in the upcoming “Hobbit,” which she revealed to MTV News at the “Eclipse” premiere. “Believe me, I spend many nights wondering that,” Kendrick said when asked if there might be a role in the upcoming Tolkien adaptation. “This is officially my feeler!” Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz Other busy bees include Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz. Greene will appear in “Apparition” opposite Sebastian Stan and Tom Felton, recently wrapped “Butter” with Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman, and also has the action/sport film “Warrior” on her slate, opposite her “Twilight” sibling. Lutz, in addition to “Warrior,” is off kicking butt in Tarsem Singh’s Greek gods-centric epic “Immortals,” opposite Samuel L. Jackson, Freida Pinto, Isabel Lucas and Mickey Rourke.
