Adam Sandler, Chris Rock Talk Richard Pryor Biopic

‘It’s all being worked on,’ Sandler tells MTV News, after losing director Bill Condon to ‘Breaking Dawn.’ By Eric Ditzian Chris Rock and Adam Sandler Photo: MTV News Richard Pryor died in 2005 at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of legendary comedy — and equally legendary debauchery. He was the guy a generation of stand-up comedians modeled themselves after, and he was the guy whose long-standing drug abuse — including a frightening incident in which he lit himself on fire while freebasing cocaine — stood as a warning to rising comics about the dangers of addiction and fame. Two of the comedians who rose to prominence in the decades after Pryor’s trailblazing comedic stylings, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock , are deep in development as the producers of “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?” a biopic about the funnyman. Eddie Murphy circled the Pryor role at one point, and before his death, Pryor himself anointed Mike Epps (“The Hangover”) as the guy for the part. But the gig eventually went to Marlon Wayans. Why? Rock had some answers. “Marlon Wayans, he did a screen test and it was just unbelievable,” Rock told MTV News recently. “It’s not just doing the comedy of Richard Pryor. He captures the vulnerability of Richard Pryor.” Long attached to helm the project, director Bill Condon should begin shooting “Is It Something I Said?” in the fall. But now that Condon has signed on to direct the conclusion of the two-part “Twilight Saga,” “Breaking Dawn” — also this fall — things seem to be getting complicated. Is Condon still on board? Will Sandler and Rock get their project off the ground? “Hopefully, soon,” Sandler said. “It’s all being worked on. Hopefully soon.” What do you think of Marlon Wayans playing iconic comedian Richard Pryor? Would you have cast another actor? Let us know in the comments!

Eclipse Keeps Record-Setting Pace, The Last Airbender Does Not

After grossing a record-setting $30 million from midnight screenings, you didn’t need to be Nostradamus to realize that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was going to smash some records over July 4th weekend. And so down goes the first one: Buoyed by those midnight showings, Eclipse banked $68.5 million on Wednesday, besting the gross of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for biggest Wednesday in box office history. That wasn’t enough to top the $72 million opening day record held by New Moon , but it doesn’t sound like anyone is complaining. Except maybe Paramount and one Manoj Night Shyamalan.

Stars Choose Sides: Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Team Edward or Team Jacob? It’s no longer a question reserved for Twihards, or pop culture followers in general. Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan was actually asked which side she’s on during confirmation hearings this week. But forget future judges. On which end of this debate do Jersey Shore stars and country singers fall? A handful of celebrities were asked to pledge their allegiance to Edward or Jacob this week and replied with the following: Snooki : I’m Team Edward just because he’s very sexy, but then again, I’m Team Jacob because he has potential guido status. The Situation : I don’t think I’m on any team on that one because I like women. But on the other hand, I am fans of them both, I think they’re both great actors. Julianne Hough : I’m in love with Edward. Martina McBride : Well, Edward’s really cute, I think he’s very romantic, but I think probably Jacob is a healthier relationship. He seems to care. He’s not as obsessive. It’s a little more well-rounded. Brooklyn Decker : I’m Team Bella. I’m always rooting for her. I think she’s the atypical heroine, and a lot of people relate to that. Cheyenne Kimball : I’m totally Team Edward. I used to read the books when I was 17, and I wanted so badly to meet a vampire named Edward and fall in love. Rachel Reinart : I’m Team Vampire Diaries . I don’t watch Twilight. I have a huge crush on both of the dudes. They’re hot. Serena Williams : I’m obsessed with Robert Pattinson. Interesting. But enough from these celebs. Let’s hear from THG readers. Which team are YOU on?

Supreme Court Nominee Elena Kagan Dodges ‘Twilight’ Debate

Senator asks solicitor general about ‘famous case of Edward vs. Jacob’ during confirmation hearing. By Gil Kaufman U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan at her Senate Hearing on Thursday Photo: Brendan Smialowski/Getty Images She faced tough questions on abortion, banning military recruiters from campus and a host of other constitutional issues during her two days in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. And, like most recent Supreme Court nominees, Solicitor General Elena Kagan declined to offer her opinions on issues that might come up before the court should she be confirmed for a spot on the nation’s top bench. She swatted away tough questions from a number of Republican inquisitors with a smile and good humor. But when it came to the most crucial issue of our time, the question that has vexed so many (OK, not a single one) previous Supreme Court nominees — is she Team Jacob or Team Edward? — Kagan refused to bend. Kagan professed she was not really aware of the “Twilight” phenomenon when asked a question about which team she was on by Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar. “Solicitor General Kagan, you had an incredibly grueling day yesterday and did incredibly well,” Klobuchar said. “But I guess it means you missed the midnight debut of the third ‘Twilight’ movie last night. We did not miss it in our household, and it culminated in three 15-year-old girls sleeping over at three a.m.” “I didn’t see that,” Kagan laughed. “I just had a feeling. I keep wanting to ask you about the famous case of Edward vs. Jacob or the vampire vs. the werewolf,” Klobuchar said on Wednesday. With a smile, Kagan said, “I wish you wouldn’t.” And so, as with Lady Gaga , we may never know which side Kagan lands on in the vampires vs. werewolves debate, but at least we know she got asked the tough questions. What team do you think Solicitor General Kagan is on? Should it make a difference in her confirmation to the Supreme Court? Let us know by leaving a comment below. Kellan Lutz Says ‘Eclipse’ Has ‘A Great Mix Of Romance And Action’

‘It’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,’ Lutz tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Kellan Lutz definitely has the build to pull off the most intense action scenes in “Eclipse,” and the actor knows that the third “Twilight Saga” flick is Emmett Cullen’s time to shine. “I just love doing my own stunts,” he told MTV News. “I love stunt work. It sucks that I can’t rewrite the books and add more dialogue for Emmett, because I really do have more action scenes than dialogue. So it’s great when ‘Eclipse’ came around, ’cause I do love the book the best, and I think it just had such a great mix of the romance and the action and the collaboration of the two. “I love to work, so it’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,” he added. “So I really just loved doing stunts.” When ideas were brewing about how to make the stunts happen in “Eclipse,” Lutz was the go-to guy for experimentation. “The producers know I like doing the stunts so much, to the point where they make me the guinea pig,” he laughed. “So we were doing this treadmill running sequence, so you’re wearing these contacts and you’re breathing in exhaust from the truck, and it’s cold as hell up there, and you’re trying to run and not pant, ’cause I’m a vampire.” The cast has been quite vocal about upping the action ante in “Eclipse.” Taylor Lautner recently revealed that it’s the most “guy-friendly” of the “Twilight” flicks. “It’s my favorite, because it’s the most guy-friendly by far,” Lautner explained. “It’s dangerous. There’s a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It’s great.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Justin Bieber Vs. ‘Twilight’: Fans Weigh In!

My World 2.0 singer is ‘hotter’ than ‘Eclipse’ stars, and ‘his music would save the world,’ one fan says. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage It’s a question for the ages, and teen girls don’t take it lightly. If there could be only one, which would you choose: Justin Bieber or “Twilight? Days before vampire frenzy spread on Wednesday (June 30) with the opening of “Eclipse,” MTV News traveled to Hartford, Connecticut, to catch the teen singer’s My World Tour kickoff , where we asked fans there to weigh in on the epic battle of Bieber vs. “Twilight.” One of the two pop-culture phenomena had to come out a winner, and Justin Bieber’s fans made their case, with the pop star coming out the clear winner. “He is amazing,” Britney told MTV News, arguing that Bieber’s famous head of hair is so much better than Pattinson’s equally famous coif. “It’s just gorgeous.” In addition to having that sugary-sweet voice, the girls had other important reasons for loving Bieber over the “Twilight Saga,” one of them being 24-year-old Pattinson’s age. “[Justin’s] amazing! He’s just amazing. Yes [he wins]. He’s more our age and Robert Pattinson is just older, so obviously, Justin Bieber,” Amanda said. Her pal, Nicky, agreed saying, “He’s our age.” Another fan, Rihanna, said, “He sings better. He’s a lot cuter … and he’s our age.” Apart from the age factor, the girls decided that Bieber wins hands-down because of his pop star status. “He’s the one that I worship,” Christina gushed. “His music is amazing — it would save the world.” Micaela added, “He’s freakin’ amazing! Taylor Lautner does not sing, neither does Edward, and they’re not even that hot as Justin Bieber.” Oh yeah, did they mention he’s hot? Or, as Lexi put it: “He’s really hot!” Ashley said it was “because he’s a singer. He has a really good voice.” And, of course, she said, he’s “cute!” If you had to pick between “Twilight” and the Bieb, which would it be? Tell us in the comments! Eclipse Breaks Box Office Record for Midnight Showings

Eclipse is the best Twilight Saga film to date. Perhaps this helped the movie set a box office record early this morning, but we have a feeling it would have done quite well even without THG’s glowing review . The third film in this franchise broke the second film’s record haul for midnight showings today, as Eclipse pulled in a whopping $30 million across 4,416 screens nationwide. That figure also marks the widest release of all-time, bumping Iron Man 2 down a notch. New Moon grossed close to $300 domestically during its run, while the original Twlight topped out at $193 million. Expect Eclipse to sky-rocket past both those numbers. Just how huge has the Twilight Saga become? In an incident both depressing and hilarious, Elena Kagan was asked about t during her Supreme Court confirmation hearings today. As you can see below, she refrained from commenting on her affiliation with Team Jacob or Team Edward. Elena Kagan on Eclipse
