Lawsuits: Doug E. Fresh Sues Fox’s Hit Show “Empire” Over Copyright Infringement

Empire Hit With Lawsuit Over Music Copyright Bad news for “Empire”! The show has been hit with yet another lawsuit. A statement released by Doug E. Fresh and Rasheed Rahan Wonder reveals the details of the case: Publishing mogul and CEO of Wonderboy Entertainment, Rasheed Rahan Wonder has teamed up with Doug E. Fresh and songwriter Unique Mecca Hall to officially file a Multi-Million Dollar lawsuit against Fox’s top-rated show, “Empire”. The lawsuit contends that during season two of Empire, the show sampled the 1993 Doug E. Fresh hit song, “I-Ight” (Alright). The track was illegally sampled and used in the song “No Doubt About It,” which was performed on episode 3 by Pitbull and Jussie Smollett, as well as featured on Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 2 Volume 1. The song was produced for the show by Timbaland, who was recently replaced as the musical director of Empire after two seasons. Songwriter Unique Mecca Hall is credited with creating the popular party chant, “Ayo, Aight” and in 1993 he and Doug E. Fresh used the phrase in Doug E.’s hit song, “I-ght” (Alright). Since then, the chant has been legally used in many Hip-hop songs and on the soundtracks for “Above the Rim” and “Notorious”. Rasheed Rahan Wonder of Wonderboy Entertainment is representing songwriter Unique Mecca Hall in the lawsuit as he is currently serving life plus 20 years in prison for an 848 King Pin charge. Hall is said to be released soon due to new evidence and circumstances with his case. In addition, Rasheed Rahan Wonder is in negotiations to produce a Unique Mecca Hall bio-pic rumored to be titled, “Paid in Full 2”. Hall was known to be the real Nino Brown of Harlem with many putting him on the same level as Harlem legends, AZ, Alpo and Rich Porter. Wow this is wild. This Unique Hall story sounds like it could make for a good movie right? Peep a pic of him on the cover of FEDS.

BOSSIP Premiere: DizTroy Ft. Mystic Davis “30 Bad B****es”

Jamaican Production Duo DizTroy Cultivating New Dancehall Sound This is one is for our dancehall/reggae lovers out there. Allow us to introduce a phenomenal production duo from Port Antonio, Jamaica called DizTroy . They’ve been creating a bit of a buzz with their fresh sounds changing up the landscape of Dancehall blending different styles/riddims and soundscapes. The first collaboration is DizTroy featuring Mystic Davis- you may know her name from Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt”. She sang the hook and was in the bubble. As you can tell from the video she’s a super talented singer/rapper and dancer. Check out the video below: Here’s more on DizTroy: Music may run in the blood, but in this case it’s rooted soul deep. Made up of Troy Baker and Dale “Dizzle” Virgo, DizTroy is a production group that’s born and bred in Jamaica, and infused with British and American musical influences. UK-based producer Troy and Jamaican sound specialist Dizzle create songs that are rooted in Jamaican sound system culture and accented by various subgenres including hip-hop, EDM, and Brit pop, placing them at the forefront of the emerging electronic music scene. They bring ample amounts of attitude alongside an electric mash-up of music that is as creatively exciting as it is it technically complex. The self-taught duo’s music plays like an addictive flow that delves into EDM-inflected beats, reggae and dancehall infused hooks and a genre-eluding take on electro soul. They claim to draw inspiration from New York’s early hip-hop scene blended with Jamaican dancehall and the British R&B/Pop wave. DizTroy’s most recent project is a collaboration with emerging ‘soul rebel’ and gifted Jamaica lyricist Ricki Simmond’s on her 11-track LP Salience, an exceptional ‘new soul’ debut that takes the kinds of creative risks that few pop or experimental artists are willing to take. They’re also collaborating with popular hip-hop and dancehall artists, including Assassin, Versatile, and Wayne J, to bring DizTroy’s artful touch to the broader soundwaves. DizTroy’s debut single “Mystic Strings” video was shot in and around Port Antonio by Kevin Lee and Savannah Baker, capturing the unique vitality and character of one of Jamaica’s best-kept secrets, and featuring dually talented singer and dancer Mystic Davis Vice TV, regular visitors to Jamaica, recently filmed an episode where the Noisey crew met up with Island Records founder Chris Blackwell at his Strawberry Hill resort. They also got a visit from a gang of exciting new artists from Jon Baker’s Gee Jam Studios, including DizTroy and Mystic Davis dropping a live acoustic set of beats and lyrics. If you’re feeling the vibes check out their EP as well:

As we reported yesterday, actress, model, and transgender activist Alexis Arquette passed away at 12:32 am on the Sunday morning. Though no official cause of death has been revealed, sources have indicated that Arquette died from complications from AIDS . Some insiders have claimed that she had also been diagnosed with an inoperable tumor. Her family has not confirmed the cause of death, but in the social media post in which he announced her passing, Alexis’ brother Richmond Arquette did indicate that she had been battling an illness and recently took a turn for the worse. “Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning,” Richmond wrote. “He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones.” He added that Alexis had outlined for her family exactly how she wanted them to pay their respects: “As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension,” he revealed. Couple Celebrates 57 Years of Marriage with Notebook-Inspired Photo Shoot

It’s time to meet Clemma and Sterling Elmore. They are also known as The Greatest Couple of All-Time. Natives of Oklahoma, the Elmores recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary … … by striking poses reminiscent of every woman’s favorite movie in American cinematic history. Oh, yes. We’re talking about The Notebook. They used a vintage truck. They wore 1940s-style clothing. They relied on props such as flowers and cameras. And they got very much into the characters made famous by Ryan Goslig and Rachel McAdams. “He said the first time that he laid eyes on me that he said, ‘That’s the girl I’m going to marry,’ ” Clemma told ABC News, adding of The Notebook: “I love the movie. We both love that movie, such a sweet movie, we’ve seen it twice.” The Notebook came out in 2004. Based on a romantic Nicholas Sparks novel, it tells the story of a rich young woman and a poor young man, separated by distance at times and social class. But you can’t fight love. You can’t tell your heart how to feel.  You can’t compete with the passion of this movie. The couple was photographed for this unique and memorable set of pictures by Stacy Welch-Christ. The adorable collection was shared on the photographer’s Facebook page and has been shared, as of this writing, over 54,000 times. “We are totally overwhelmed. It just has got us just – well, we’re just humbled by the comments,” Clemma says. Clemma and Sterling have two children together, along with a critical piece of advice for everyone out there. “We never fail to tell each other, probably 10 times a day, ‘I love you,’ “Sterling, 80, told ABC News. It sounds so simple, but who ever said love had to be complicated? We don’t know if Sterling wrote to Clemma every day for a year or anything at any point, but for this two, it still isn’t over! For those unaware of why The Notebook is so popular, we offer two quotes from the film: It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard.  And we’re going to have to work on this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me. The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our mind. What? We aren’t crying. YOU’RE the ones who are crying!
