Lupe Fiasco is quite known for his unabashed statements and emotional inconsistency. The popular lyricists sat in on CBS news’ What’s Trending where he voiced his displeasure with the government and specifically president Barack Obama. “In my fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama in the United States of America. For me, I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism. The root cause of the terrorism is the stuff that you as a government allow to happen and the foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists. And it’s easy for us because it’s really just some oil, which we can really get on our own.” Spotted @ Necole Bitchie.com Lupe Fiasco “Words I Never Said” [MUSIC VIDEO] Lupe Fiasco Secures #1 Debut, 204K Sold Did You Know Nicki Minaj Plays The Clarinet? If you knock up Rielle Hunter (and make a sex tape) while your wife’s terminally ill, then use her cancer to win sympathy from voters while seeking your party’s nomination for President of the United States, you are a pretty bad person. Still, John Edwards says, he didn’t do anything illegal. With daughter Cate Edwards standing behind him, he pleaded not guilty to using campaign money to cover up his affair and love child with Hunter. “There is no question that I’ve done wrong ,” the two-time former presidential hopeful said outside the federal courthouse in Winston-Salem, N.C. “I take full responsibility for having done wrong. I will regret for the rest of my life the pain and the harm that I’ve caused to others. But I did not break the law, and I never, ever thought I was breaking the law.” A federal grand jury indicted John Edwards for breaking federal campaign finance laws while he was running for president back in 2008. In 2007, the National Enquirer f irst got wind of – and reported – John’s affair with Rielle. He denied it all profusely and that was that. After the 2008 primaries, the Enquirer busted him visiting Rielle. He confessed the affair, but still maintained the child was not his. More than a year later, with Andrew Young set to blow the whistle on his role in the ordeal, he finally admitted paternity as well. Prosecutors allege funds were paid to Rielle Hunter and onetime Edwards aide Young – who for a long time claimed he knocked up Rielle – to cover up Edwards’ affair with Hunter and the child they had together. Prosecutors claim the money came from political donors and can be considered campaign funds since they aided Edwards’ presidential bid.

Family Research Council’s Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI) released a synthesis paper today showing that economic well-being in the United States is strongly related to marriage. The paper, entitled Marriage and Economic Well-Being, shows that married couples are better off economically than persons in any other family structure. The paper reports that only 5.8 percent of married families were living in poverty in 2009. “This research clearly documents why marriage is an important and fundamental part of society. Having the security of marriage in which to foster children is vital to reducing reliance on government welfare programs which cost taxpayers at least $112 billion annually. How To Help Your Teen Through Your Divorce “For men, being married proves an economic boon. Married men tend to have more stable employment histories and make, on average, almost 30 percent more than their non-married counterparts. Marriage also affects women and children positively. Married women are less likely to be impoverished, and children from married families have stronger economic mobility as adults. “Despite the disastrous effects of divorce on society, remarriage can have positive economic impacts on broken families. Remarriage tends to increase income and restore some lost wealth. The rate of poverty among children whose mothers remarry after divorce is reduced by 66 percent. First lady Michelle Obama and several other officials will unveil a new plate-shaped food icon today, Thursday June 2nd, that “will serve as a reminder to help consumers make healthier food choices,” the White House said. The first lady will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Surgeon General Regina Benjamin during the event at the auditorium in the Department of Agriculture. A Department of Agriculture statement, without describing the new icon, said it will be “an easy-to-understand visual cue to help consumers adopt healthy eating habits.” “We presume that it will be divided into sections that will show you how much of different types of foods you should be eating,” said Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent, about the plate image. The move is part of Mrs. Obama’s push to fight childhood obesity. Beyonce Encourages Kids To Move Their Bodies With New Video Earlier this year, the first lady announced her campaign called Let’s Move, which is aimed at reducing childhood obesity in the United States within a generation. During her announcement in February, she urged parents, teachers, physicians, coaches and kids to get involved and suggested they look at the new Let’s Move website for tips and updates on beating obesity in children. Ever since the media began reporting on various statistics that people of color will become the new majority by 2050 in the United States and throughout most of the globe, there have been parallel reports circulating about the plight of the oppressed white guy. The non-profit foundation founded by Kanye West and his late mother Dr. Donda West, “The Kanye West Foundation,” closed recently, for unexplained reasons. Hip Hop Wired is reporting that; “the news of the organization shutting down broke at the end last month when former executive director, Joseph Collins, sent an e-mail to associates, telling them that he was seeking employment because the charity, ‘The Kanye West Foundation,’ had shut down and its phone had been disconnected.” Collins would not elaborate on the reasons for the charity shutting down, and when contacted by The New York Times, would only say; “You’d have to get in touch with Mr. West,” which, according to the newspaper, is a fruitless task. The mission of the foundation was to empower young students, and to; “help combat the severe dropout problem in schools across the United States by partnering with community organizations to provide under-served youth access to music production programs that will enable them to unleash their creative ability and reach their full potential” The foundation website makes a claim of being committed to the foundation in the long term, despite the difficulties in achieving the organizations aims, but, as Hip Hop Wired report, tax forms do show a sharp decline in grant money coming into the organization since its lucrative inception. They note that, according to tax documents, the charity raised an average of $492,000 and made total grants averaging $18,080 in each of its first three years in operation, thanks largely to companies dealing with Kanye. However, it is reported that the charity made just $563 in grants in 2009. Could it be that Kanye wasn’t nearly as interested in the foundation as his mother was, so didn’t put in the time? Surely his name is just as marketable now as it was three years ago, so a dry up of funding can’t be the only explanation? If the reason for the shut down, is because of a lack of participation or interest on Yeezy’s behalf, then that truly is disappointing and shameful. Oh yeah. Because sh*t is real in Yemen too, in case you didn’t know. Foreign ministers of Persian Gulf nations will meet in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday in the latest attempt to ease tensions between the government and the opposition in Yemen. In a statement, the Gulf Cooperation Council said the meeting will focus on completing discussions that took place Sunday in Saudi Arabia with the opposition Joint Meeting Parties. The meeting came as Yemeni security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters in the city of Taiz, injuring at least seven people, eyewitnesses and field medical teams said. The GCC, a six-nation bloc of oil-producing countries, met Sunday in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, in an effort bring an end to the current political impasse in the country. Violence and protest have raged in Yemen, where protesters have called for the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. He has ruled the country since 1978. In recent weeks, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets. Many have been arrested and injured in clashes with security forces. The council has urged Saleh to transfer powers to his vice president, which has frustrated opposition members who want Saleh to resign. “We will stay firm in our demands … for Saleh to step down,” said Yaseen Saeed Noman, president of the JMP. “Our brothers at the GCC promised us that they would continue in talks with Yemen’s ruling party and try to reach a solution that will ease the crises in the country.” Imagine that: a conflict getting resolved without the US and it’s big bad Allies.
