Bernie Fine, Associate Head Syracuse Basketball Coach, Accused of Sexual Misconduct

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal that has roiled Penn State, two Syracuse University ball boys say they were molested by the school’s associate head basketball coach, Bernie Fine, in the late 1970s and continuing into the 1990s. Police in Syracuse said they have opened an investigation. In a statement Thursday night, Syracuse said it has placed Fine on administrative leave. One of the alleged victims, Bobby Davis, told ESPN that Bernine Fine molested him starting in 1984, shortly before Davis entered the seventh grade. Davis, the team’s ball boy for six years beginning in 1984, said the abuse occurred at Fine’s home, at Syracuse basketball facilities, and on road trips. The second alleged victim, Mike Lang, now 45, is Davis’ stepbrother and was also a ball boy for several years. He said Fine molested him at a similar age. Davis said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim saw him in Fine’s hotel room on several of those road trips, but never told Boeheim about the alleged abuse. Police stressed that they are in the early stages of the investigation. Thursday evening, police planned to interview both men who made the allegations. Both men spoke in video interviews with ESPN Thursday night, describing the alleged acts by Fine – reaching into their shorts and rubbed their genitals. Fine is in his 35th season as an assistant to Boeheim, who came to his defense. “I know this kid, but I never saw him in any rooms or anything,” Boeheim said. “It is a bunch of a thousand lies that he has told,” the head coach said. “You don’t think it is a little funny that his cousin (relative) is coming forward?” “He supplied four names to the university that would corroborate his story. None of them did … there is only one side to this story. He is lying.” The university has just responded publicly as well. Kevin Quinn, Syracuse’s Senior V.P. for public affairs, issued a statement on behalf of the school: “In 2005, Syracuse University was contacted by an adult male who told us that he had reported to the Syracuse City Police that he had been subjected to inappropriate contact by an associate men’s basketball coach. The alleged activity took place in the 1980’s and 1990’s. We were informed by the complainant that the Syracuse City Police had declined to pursue the matter because the statute of limitations had expired. “On hearing of the allegations in 2005, the University immediately launched its own comprehensive investigation through its legal counsel. That nearly four-month long investigation included a number of interviews with people the complainant said would support his claims. All of those identified by the complainant denied any knowledge of wrongful conduct by the associate coach. The associate coach also vehemently denied the allegations. “Syracuse University takes any allegation of this sort extremely seriously and has zero tolerance for abuse of any kind. If any evidence or corroboration of the allegations had surfaced, we would have terminated the associated coach and reported it to the police immediately. We understand that the Syracuse City Police has now reopened the case, and Syracuse University will cooperate fully. We are steadfastly committed ensuring that SU remains a safe place for every member of our campus community.” The Penn State scandal, exposed after former defensive coordinator Sandusky was charged with 40 criminal counts of molesting at least eight boys over a 15-year span, got Joe Paterno fired and became the talk of the nation. Is Syracuse basketball, another storied collegiate sports institution, now headed down a similar path, or will this set of accusations prove false? More details to follow as the story develops …

Ashton Kutcher Apologizes For Joe Paterno Comments

Actor removes tweet supporting fired Penn State coach, admitting he didn’t know ‘rest of the story’ involving child sex-abuse scandal. By James Montgomery Ashton Kutcher Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/ WireImage Ashton Kutcher is apologizing for a controversial tweet he wrote following the ouster of longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who had come under fire in recent weeks due to an ongoing child-abuse scandal that has rocked the university, community and highly respected athletic program. In the hours after Paterno — who had served as head coach of the Nittany Lions for 46 years — was fired by Penn State, Kutcher took to his Twitter account to criticize the move, writing “How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass … I find it in poor taste.” Of course, after that tweet earned him thousands of rebukes from fans, the actor deleted it from his account and admitted that he wasn’t aware of the full story when he wrote it. “This is an insane story, I just heard Paterno was fired, getting the rest of the story now …” he wrote. “Fully recant previous tweet. “As an advocate in the fight against child exploitation, I could not be more remorseful for all involved in the Penn State case,” he added . “As of immediately I will stop Tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed. I feel awful about this error. Won’t happen again.” Kutcher is a co-founder of the DNA Foundation, an organization that aims to “help end child sex slavery.” Paterno and Penn State University president Graham Spanier were let go during an emergency meeting by the school’s board of trustees Wednesday night, just hours after Paterno announced he planned to retire at the end of the football season. The announcement of his firing led to student protests and rioting in downtown State College, Pennsylvania. The drama stems from an ongoing investigation into child sex-abuse accusations filed against former PSU defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and perjury charges against two university officials. Since news of the scandal broke, Paterno had come under increasing scrutiny for how he responded after learning of an alleged incident involving Sandusky and a child in 2002. After learning of the incident from an eyewitness, Paterno reportedly told the school’s athletic director, but not police, according to prosecutors in the case. Sandusky, a PSU coach from 1969 to 1999, has been charged with 21 felony counts of sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year span.

Ya Big Dummy: Kris Humphries Might Have To Live Off Of Kimmy Cakes After This Steals His Stacks

If it ain’t one thing it’s a muhfuggin’ other with these two…SMH According to TMZ reports : Kim Kardashian’s husband claims he was bilked out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by a guy he invited to his wedding … a guy who’s been arrested for allegedly running a $1.7 million investment scam. Andrey C. Hicks was a guest at Kim and Kris Humphries televised wedding bonanza in August … and sat right behind the happy couple during the rehearsal dinner. But TMZ has learned … after the wedding, Kris learned Andrey was a target in a federal investigation in which he’s suspected of raising money for a purported billion dollar hedge fund … that didn’t really exist. Officials believe Andrey lied to several investors — including Kris — telling them, among other things, that he was a Harvard graduate … when in fact, he was kicked out of the University after 3 semesters for crappy grades. Officials say Andrey only took 1 math class at Harvard … and got a D-. Officials claim 27-year-old Hicks stole $1.7 million from various investors … and sources close to Kris tell us the NBA star accounted for hundreds of thousands of dollars himself. Hicks was arrested in Canada on Friday and charged with wire fraud. Officials believe he was trying to flee to Switzerland. If convicted, Hicks could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. We don’t know how well Kris knows this guy, but considering he wasn’t making big superstar NBA money, why would he invest “hundreds of thousands” in anything? According to reports, Humphries has only made about 16 million in his 7 year tenure in the league.

Hide Ya Kids! Study Shows 1 In 10 Texas 11-Year-Olds Have Given Up Their Goodies

Hide Ya Kids! Especially if you live in Texas… According to a study out of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston: 1. Almost one in 10 Texas 6th graders have had sex. 2. The percentage of Texas7th and 8th graders who have had sex is 22 and 29 percent respectively. 3. Of high school-aged kids, 32 percent of 9th graders, 41 percent of 10th graders, 53 percent of 11th graders and 62 percent of 12th graders have had sex. 4. Just over one third of the entire public middle and high school population are sexually experienced. 5. Texas students are more likely to report having had sex with four or more partners and are less likely to have used birth control or condoms. 6. Texas students are also significantly less likely to receive education about HIV or AIDS in school. 7. Males are significantly more likely than their counterparts to report having sex for the first time before age 13, having more than four partners and using drugs or alcohol before having sex. The results come from an analysis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, the CDC’s Middle School Youth Risk Behavior Survey and the University of Texas Prevention Research Center’s All About Youth study. Guess that explains why Rick Perry wanted all the kids to get the HPV vaccine before 6th grade… But seriously, where are these kids’ parents? Source

Urban Outfitters Has The Navajo Nation’s Panties In A Bunch… Literally

The corporate culture vultures are at it again… Urban Outfitters is in trouble with the Navajo Nation for using their name in vain to peddle nasty panties and flasks for their lil lushie customers. Native American-inspired prints have shown up on runways for years, and it’s common for designers to borrow from other cultures. But the Navajo government’s issue with Urban Outfitters is the clothing chain’s use of the name “Navajo” on its products and in marketing. The tribe holds at least 10 trademarks on the name that cover clothing, footwear, online retail sales, household products and textiles. The tribe’s Department of Justice sent Urban Outfitters CEO Glen Senk a cease-and-desist letter in June, demanding that the company pull the Navajo name from its products. The tribe has received no response but says it remains “cautiously optimistic” it can persuade Urban Outfitters to adopt another name and trademark. “When products that have absolutely no connection to the Navajo Nation, its entities, its people, and their products are marketed and retailed under the guise that they are Navajo in origin, the Navajo Nation does not regard this as benign or trivial,” said Brian Lewis, an attorney for the tribe. “It takes appropriate action to maintain distinctiveness and clarity of valid name association in the market and society.” Urban Outfitters, which has stores across the country and overseas, said it has not heard from the NavajoNation and has no plans to alter its products. “Like many other fashion brands, we interpret trends and will continue to do so for years to come,” company spokesman Ed Looram said. “The Native American-inspired trend and specifically the term ‘Navajo’ have been cycling through fashion, fine art and design for the last few years.” While the Navajo Nation has not threatened legal action, law professor Bill Hennessey thinks it has a strong case. He said the tribe could argue the products cause confusion among customers about who manufactured them. Hennessey points specifically to a trademark governing textiles that was registered to a Navajo Nation enterprise in 2008. “If you’re going to maintain control over your mark, the more quickly you bring an action against the infringer, the more likely the federal court is going to grant an injunction order prohibiting Urban Outfitters from continuing to use the word ‘Navajo,’” said Hennessey, who teaches at the University of New Hampshire’s Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property. Urban Outfitters labels more than 20 products on its website with the word “Navajo,” including jackets, earrings, scarves and sneakers. But the two items that have sparked possibly the most controversy online are the “Navajo Hipster Panty,” and the “Navajo Print Fabric Wrapped Flask.” Both have geometric designs common in Navajo arts and crafts. Dwayne Clauschee, a designer from the Navajo town of Chinle in Arizona, said Urban Outfitters and other clothing companies are trying to cash in on a trend he believes has been done more respectfully and tastefully in higher-end fashion. A “Navajo” flask is “extremely insensitive” considering the long history of alcohol abuse among Native tribes, many of which ban the sale and consumption of alcohol on their reservations, he said. The Navajo Nation is among them. And branding underwear as “Navajo” goes against the tribe’s spiritual beliefs of modesty and avoidance of indecency, Clauschee said. Jessica Metcalfe, a Turtle Mountain Chippewa from North Dakota who writes a Native American fashion blog, tells Urban Outfitters to knock it off. “Don’t claim Navajo, unless it’s Navajo, and you ain’t Navajo.” Sasha Houston Brown of the Santee Sioux Nation posted a letter online to the company saying it “has taken Indigenous life ways and artistic expressions and trivialized and sexualized them for the sake of corporate profit.” Well said… What do you think? Shouldn’t those Urban Outfitters wanksters be more apologetic???
