With Climate Change Looming, We Are The Ghosts Of Christmas Yet To Come

“The Last of the Spirits, from Charles Dickens: A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas. With Illustrations by John Leech. London: Chapman & Hall, 1843. First edition. ” Image credit: Wikipedia (copyright expired) – an excerpt. I am not suggesting that Dickens was prescient about climate change, in the fashion of the absurd claims made for Nostradamus. Nor do I think you should literally wear a hoodie (the modern equivalent of Grim Reaper… Read the full story on TreeHugger

David Banner, 9th Wonder To Drop By ‘RapFix Live’!

Mississippi MC and producer will talk about their joint LP, and an exclusive T.I. interview airs on Thursday’s episode. By Jayson Rodriguez David Banner Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty Images David Banner is not an MC to mince words, and the Mississippi-bred rapper will have plenty to talk about when he and producer 9th Wonder appear on “RapFix Live” this Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. This week, “RapFix Live” will also feature an exclusive interview with T.I. that was conducted before the No Mercy MC was sent to prison last month . Watch a preview of the interview only on “RapFix Live,” then check back later on MTVNews.com and RapFix.MTV.com for more clips from the exclusive Q&A. As for Banner and 9th, the pair are set to release their first collaborative project, Death of a Pop Star, on December 21. The LP features production from the former Little Brother star and rhymes from Banner; Ludacris and Estelle also lend their talents to the project. Earlier this summer, Banner told MTV News partnering with 9th Wonder helped him feel rejuvenated about music. “It’s like we playing basketball overseas for the USA and we win the gold,” Banner said about their upcoming project. “That’s how I’m feeling. I’m coming right off of that and going into my next album.” How did these southern hip-hop stars come together? Why didn’t Banner take on any producing duties on Death of a Pop Star ? What do the two college grads think about President Obama’s performance so far? Ask Banner and 9th Wonder yourself by sending messages via Twitter to @MTVRapFix with the hashtag #rapfixlive or upload video messages to the pair at Your.MTV.com. The duo will sit down with MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway and answer your questions. They follow past “RapFix Live” guests such as Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Fabolous, Swizz Beatz and Soulja Boy Tell’em. What should Sway ask Banner and 9th Wonder? Share your questions in the comments! Image credit: Electric Power Systems Research 57 (2001) 195-204 ; Ackermann et. al. My recent claim of ‘distributed power’ being inherently superior created some controversy. US electricity demand projections…low but continuing rate. Image credit: USEIA Most of last remaining State electricity rate caps will have fallen away by the end of this year. The resulting electric bill increases – stemming from both “rate cap removal” and higher-priced coal – tend to be in the 20% and higher range. “Coal Dems” and “Tea Partiers” won’t have “Cap & Trade” to blame for the pain of higher electric bills, however, as higher bills are a direct result of the deregulation fervor which arose during era of the Clinton Administration (an Admini… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Omission Watch: Obama Nominated Chicago Agent for ATF Chief, Drawing Opposition from NRA

Cam Edwards of NRANews.com reported on Friday night that there's a really under-reported story out there. President Obama nominated a new head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives — a local ATF agent from Chicago that's drawing serious opposition from gun-rights groups. Patrik Jonsson of The Christian Science Monitor is one of the few news reporters to notice: ATF special agent Andrew Traver, who last year let a TV reporter fire an AK-47 from her hip to demonstrate the weapon's lethality, is set to become America's chief firearms inspector. But Mr. Traver, currently the Chicago ATF chief, faces a tough nomination battle as gun-rights groups amass their forces in opposition. read more
