DHS Source: TSA Infuriated With Coverage Of Nationwide Backlash

No Grope, No Fly: TSA Refuses To Back Down: But lawmakers and local authorities prepare to take on feds. A Department of Homeland Security source has told CNN that the TSA is infuriated with the attention the media has given to the nationwide backlash against naked body scanners and aggressive new airport pat down procedures. During an appearance on CNN’s Anderson Cooper, TSA chief John Pistole attempted to downplay CNN’s Homeland Security source who told them that the TSA was “angry” with the media’s coverage of the issue and also fuming at the portrayal of the “don’t touch my junk” guy as a “folk hero”. Pistole also ludicrously claimed that TSA workers were “professionals in terms of how they carry out their business,” despite a deluge of stories about TSA officials abusing, sexually assaulting and humiliating travelers, including a case currently the subject of a lawsuit where TSA goons pulled down a 21-year-old woman’s blouse before laughing and joking about her exposed breasts. Pistole also parroted Janet Napolitano’s discredited claim that Johns Hopkins University declared the naked radiation scanners to be safe, despite the fact that just three days ago Dr Michael Love, who runs an X-ray lab at the department of biophysics and biophysical chemistry at the Johns Hopkins school of medicine told AFP that “statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these X-rays”. As we documented, Big Sis’ USA Today editorial was a tissue of lies from start to finish. Pistole also lies to Cooper when he claims that people who clear the traditional metal detector are not being subjected to invasive pat downs, in an effort to dismiss the fact that people who refuse the scanner are being punitively punished for their disobedience. As we documented with the case of radio host Owen JJ Stone, who had a TSA agent put his hand inside his pants and touch his backside and genitalia, Stone cleared the metal detector without a problem but was still made to endure a humiliating pat down that amounted to sexual molestation. Pistole points to the example of underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as the reason why Americans need to submit to “groin checks” and have their testicles squeezed by goons in uniforms. However, it was the US State Department that allowed Abdulmutallab to board Delta Flight 253 despite the fact that his father warned the US State Department about him a month before, he was on a terror watchlist and was aided through security by a sharp-dressed Indian man. Pistole has indicated that the agency will not back down on radiation body scanners or invasive pat downs despite nationwide outrage and a plethora of lawsuits amidst new cases of travelers being sexually molested and humiliated by TSA goons. “Pistole told the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs that his inspectors at 453 of the nation’s airports are not going to back down in the face of complaints that techniques are invasive,” reports the Washington Post. Pistole said that agency wanted to “strike a balance between privacy and security needs,” and yet the TSA isn’t interested in striking any kind of balance whatsoever. Groping 3-year-old children, pregnant women and the physically disabled does not represent the “risk-based” or “professional” approach that Pistole and Napolitano claim they are enforcing. Amidst the backlash, many are calling for the TSA to be abolished and the current security-theatre to be replaced with something more effective, safer, and more respectful of privacy rights. As Isaac Yeffet, the former head of security for El Al, told CNN, real terrorists are a giveaway for people professionally trained to spot them. Using human intelligence and rationally-based profiling is a far more successful and Constitutional method of providing airport security. Using minimum-wage low grade morons to feel up toddlers and pregnant women is not. Pistole, Napolitano and the TSA are praying that the resistance withers away, but it is only growing stronger, especially now that local governments are warning TSA workers that they will be prosecuted for groping travelers and with state lawmakers in different areas of the country moving to terminate use of the body scanners entirely. http://www.prisonplanet.com/dhs-source-tsa-infuriated-with-coverage-of-nationwid… added by: im1mjrpain

Girl Talk Reveals His Favorite All Day Moments

Greg Gillis’ faves include his samples of Black Sabbath, Soulja Boy, Miley Cyrus and more. By James Montgomery Girl Talk Photo: Jason Merritt/ FilmMagic.com On Monday (November 15), Girl Talk brought the Internet to its knees with the out-of-nowhere release of All Day, his latest collection of whiplash-inducing, copyright-eschewing party jams. Clocking in at more than 70 minutes and featuring some 370 different samples, it’s both GT’s longest and most ambitious effort to date, which makes the fact that he gave it away for free all the more impressive. To most people, at least. “I don’t know, it doesn’t seem like all that big of a thing to me,” the producer (real name: Gregg Gillis) told MTV News on Monday, hours after All Day hit the ‘Net. “It’s always like, ‘How can I raise the bar a little bit?’ So I thought just making it free, straight-up, would do that, and would get it out there quicker. That was really the only thinking behind it.” Still, Gillis will be the first to admit that he labored longer and harder on All Day than all of the previous Girl Talk albums combined, which is why it’s understandable that he’d rather talk about some of his favorite individual moments on the album rather than the marketing strategy (or lack thereof) behind its release. “I definitely really like the opening bit, the ‘War Pigs’ thing,” he said. “I think the flow is just perfect and the energy is right, and like I said before … you always want to make a strong impact out of the gates, and that was the perfect moment. I really like the Soulja Boy/ Aphex Twin mix. I really like the ‘Where’s Your Head At?’/ Rick Ross ‘Blowin’ Money Fast’ mix. … Oh, and the M.O.P. over Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the USA’ mix is definitely one of the more magical moments to me.” All Day has only been out for 24 hours, but fans have already created an ever-growing list of all the samples Gillis mined to make the album. And they’ve been contacting him nonstop to discuss their favorite mixes, too. Though the response has been overwhelming, Gillis said he’s pretty used to it at this point. After all, when it comes to his music, playing “Spot the Sample” is half of the fun. “People are always juiced about the big ones … the Jackson 5 samples and things like that, but when people are really excited, they kinda cite the slightly more obscure ones,” Gillis laughed. “The Fugazi [‘Waiting Room’ sample] has been one people have been talking about a lot, and the Aphex Twin/Soulja Boy one. … People kind of expect the huge pop hits and the classics, but it’s the ones that are slightly less popular that really get the fans who have been listening to my stuff for years really excited about diving in.” Related Artists Girl Talk

The "No Make-Up Challenge" Shows Gorgeous Faces Without Toxic Goop

Images via No More Dirty Looks No More Dirty Looks is a book and website we’ve covered on TreeHugger before. It’s the project of two women who uncover how toxic our “beauty” regimes can be if we aren’t paying attention to the products we’re buying. But the blog ran a challenge last week asking people to skip make-up altogether, safe or not. And the results show that maybe being dedicated to a make-up routine is a bunch of hooey in the firs… Read the full story on TreeHugger

The Chevy Volt Goes on a Tour of the USA

Image: GM I Have a Special Request for GM To promote the launch of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, 6 Volts are about to embark on a cross-country tour. Over 3,400 miles and stops in 12 major cities are planned (see the schedule below), with special events where people will be able to do test-drives and talk to GM engineers. It all sounds good, but there’s something I’d like to request from GM and that I think would make this whole thing a lot more interested: Once all this is all over, I’d like GM to release details on how many gallons of gasoline and how many kWh of electricity were used during this ro… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Kanye West To Perform On ‘Saturday Night Live’

MC will appear on the October 2 episode, which ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston will host. By Jocelyn Vena Kanye West Photo: Shirlaine Forrest/ Getty Images Kanye West will appear as the musical guest on the October 2 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” which will be hosted by “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston. The high-profile appearance, which NBC confirmed to MTV News on Tuesday (September 21) morning, will come less than a month after West closed out the VMAs with the debut of a new song, “Runaway.” West may have dissed the show in his track “Power” — where he raps, “F— ‘SNL’ and the whole cast. Tell ’em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass” — but it doesn’t seem that the bookers minded very much. West’s last “SNL” appearance came during its 2007 season premiere; he also appeared in a sketch during that episode, which was hosted by NBA star LeBron James. There is no word on whether he will act during this upcoming appearance. West appears to be settling scores in 2010. During his VMA appearance, he laid to rest the Taylor Swift incident from a year prior. She too seemed to be putting the skirmish behind them in her new song, the tentatively titled “Innocent.” During the year between West’s interruption of Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs and the beef-squashing earlier this month, both Swift and former beau Taylor Lautner appeared on “SNL” (on separate occasions) and took a few shots at the rapper. West is the latest high-profile musical act added to the NBC show’s lineup. Katy Perry is set to perform on the show’s season premiere on September 25, which will be hosted by “SNL” alum Amy Poehler. USA Today reports that Bruno Mars, who was arrested over the weekend for alleged cocaine possession, is set to perform on the October 9 episode of “SNL,” which “Glee” star Jane Lynch will host . For example, will US policy towards offshore drilling change in any meaningful way? Will the practice be safer? Or, more symbo… Read the full story on TreeHugger
