‘Twilight’ Trio Take Over People’s Choice Awards

Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart fly in from ‘Breaking Dawn’ set for awards show. By Terri Schwartz Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart onstage at the People’s Choice Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images It wasn’t until an hour and a half into Wednesday night’s (January 5) People’s Choice Awards that the beloved “Twilight Saga” trio — Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner — finally made their appearance at the awards show, which meant fans unfortunately never got to find out whether Stewart would walk down the sapphire carpet with Pattinson, her rumored beau . But while the show began with a shutout for the “Twilight” stars, they ended up winning some of the biggest awards of the night, just as they did in 2010 . Johnny Depp won Favorite Male Movie Star for the fifth time in a row, beating both Lautner and Pattinson for the honor. Still sporting his “The Tourist” haircut, the favorite actor thanked his fans for the “stupefying honor” because it “comes from the people who keep us all here.” Zac Efron also bested both Stewart and Pattinson (and his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens ) as Favorite Movie Star Under 25, another surprising shutout. “What an honor it is to be nominated among my contemporaries,” Efron acknowledged, and thanked the connection he has with fans for keeping him around. But where were the “Twilight Saga” fans, infamous for their skills that allow “Twilight” to continuously sweep fan-voted awards shows? Turns out they were focusing their attention on getting Stewart the win for Favorite Movie Actress. The big three finally made their appearance more than three-quarters of the way into the show when Stewart accepted her big award. (By the way, it was Lautner — not Pattinson — who walked her to the stage.) It was Stewart’s first time at the People’s Choice Awards, and in true KStew style, it was clear the “Twilight Saga” star was uncomfortable onstage. But she was sure to thank her fans, giving them a bit of a tease from the set of “Breaking Dawn.” “We’re shooting ‘Breaking Dawn’ right now. It’s going really well; it’s really fun,” she said during her acceptance speech. Spoiler alert! “I was a vampire this morning in Baton Rouge, so it’s really weird.” Since it took the trio so long to show up to the awards show, host Queen Latifah wasn’t going to let them off the hook so easily. They were seated front and center, and Latifah put them on the spot with a list of “questions” directed at their characters. Example: If a wolf ate a vampire, but the vampire wasn’t dead, could the vampire eat the werewolf from the inside out? The awkward smile on Lautner’s face was all the answer we needed. But the awkwardness was all worth it when Latifah mistook Pattinson’s description of the “posh” airplane that they flew on from Baton Rouge for “plush.” Oh, those silly Brits! And “The Twilight Saga” ended the show with a bang, winning Favorite Movie, Favorite Drama Movie and Favorite Onscreen Team, presented by Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. Pattinson beat Lautner and Stewart to the microphone, and Lautner threw some faux punches at his onscreen enemy. “Taylor wanted to go first, but I wanted him to go last,” Pattinson joked, then let Lautner proceed. “I can’t believe this! You guys are unreal,” Lautner gushed. “It still amazes me. For movie number three, ‘Eclipse,’ already, you guys have gotten us here today, but you guys have also given us the opportunity to, as Kristen said, be filming ‘Breaking Dawn.’ “I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” he continued. “Mark my words: The best is yet to come.” Stewart took the stage after him, adding to her previous acceptance speech, “I just want to thank our producer Wyck [Godfrey]. Dude, thank you so much, and everybody at Summit of course. And the fans.” Last but not least, Pattinson took to the mic amid deafening screams from the crowd. He said he couldn’t hear what either of his co-stars said in their speeches, but “can guarantee they both wrote speeches.” His spur-of-the-moment speech was short and sweet, saying, “Thank you so much for the fun, People’s Choice. Thank you so much for everything. It’s been a wonderful experience.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson To Star In David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’

‘Breaking Dawn’ heartthrob will play the lead in film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s futuristic novel. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Robert Pattinson has signed on for his first big post-“Twilight” lead role. The actor is set to star in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis.” According to Deadline , Pattinson will play Eric Packer in the futuristic film, an adaptation of the novel by Don DeLillo. In the film version, Packer is described as “a financial wunderkind,” who risks his entire fortune to bet against Japan’s yen on a tumultuous day. His chancy move puts him in mortal danger. The flick is said to be “a drama that is a study of capitalism in a slightly futuristic metropolis.” The novel is a modern reinterpretation of James Joyce’s classic “Ulysses,” set in New York City in the year 2000, around the burst of the dot-com bubble. Most of the action in the book takes place over the course of one day, in the limousine Packer takes to his various errands. Other stars rumored to have signed up for the project include “Inception” star Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti. Deadline reported that Pattinson wanted the role because he is a big fan of Cronenberg’s work and an admirer of DeLillo’s books. The “Twilight” superstar is still hard at work on the vampire franchise. He’ll appear again as Edward Cullen in the two-part finale “Breaking Dawn,” the first of which opens in November. But up next, he’ll hit the big screen in the Depression-era romance “Water for Elephants,” alongside Reese Witherspoon. Acknowledging what millions of Pattinson fans already know, Witherspoon recently gushed to MTV News that her co-star is “extraordinarily attractive.” What do you think of Pattinson’s newest role? Tell us in the comments! Deborah Ann Woll Topless but Nippleless in Allure of the Day

I drank too much vodka last night. I know…I didn’t thing such a thing was possible. I always thought the perfect world where Vokda flowed from our faucets instead of water, but I guess last night I proved why they shouldn’t….. I also didn’t know who Deborah ANn Woll was because I don’t watch TV, but it turns out that not only is she on the popular show True Blood that I’ve never seen, because I hate Vampire everything, especially Anna Paquin’s busted down bisexual topless face….but she also gets naked but doesn’t show nipples for the January issue of Allure… Here are the pics to start this miserable hungover Friday…

Kanye West, Robyn And More: 20 Best Albums Of 2010

In a truly great year for music, Bigger Than the Sound narrows it down to records by Vampire Weekend, Rick Ross and more. By James Montgomery Bigger Than The Sound’s Best Albums of 2010 Photo: MTV News As we close the book on 2010, one thing becomes apparent: It may very well have been the best year for music in a long, long time. Major-label artists went insane, indie-rock acts topped the Billboard albums chart, and Kanye just kept being Kanye. The end result was 12 months positively brimming with excellent albums, to the point where making a list of the 20 best was darn-near impossible. Still, I tried. It’s my job, after all. So here are my picks for the 20 Best Albums of 2010. Rock, hip-hop, pop and electro records — from artists big and small — that managed to stick with me through the entire year, which was no small feat. Looking at it now, there are at least a half-dozen other albums I could’ve included. It really was that good of a year. That said, I’m sure I left a few off my list, so I’m counting on you to remind me of anything I might have missed. Let me know in the comments below, and here’s to a truly great 2010. 20. Linkin Park, A Thousand Suns The year’s most ambitious major-label rock album was also the most controversial, an icy, chilling listen that alternately thrilled and thinned LP’s substantial fanbase with its vast swaths of sonic sprawl (and overall lack of guitar solos). A Thousand Suns may be Linkin Park’s Kid A or it may just be a colossal misstep, but either way, there’s no denying the dense, dark power it packs. 19. Villagers, Becoming a Jackal The similarities between Conor O’Brien and Conor Oberst go a lot deeper than just a few letters, a pair of dewdrop eyes and a general lack of height. For proof, I present Becoming a Jackal, an expansive, haunting and largely self-produced debut that rivals Oberst’s Lifted … in terms of ambition, scope and sonic palette. The potential on display here is truly staggering, and I can’t wait to hear what he does next. So long as it’s not Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. 18. The Black Keys, Brothers An unlikely — though well-deserved — breakout for Akron, Ohio’s hardest-working blues hammers, Brothers bears the fruit of everything that came before it (the team-ups with Danger Mouse and Dame Dash, frontman Dan Auerbach’s solo album) and boils it down into a staggering, swaggering mash. The tunes are raw and ribbed, and there’s a snarling — dare I say sexual — streak that runs through them all. Required nocturnal listening, even during the day. 17. My Chemical Romance, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys It’s not a concept album; rather, it’s an “allegory” for the sad state of the music industry, a heat-seeking “missile” aimed at the barely fluttering heart of rock and roll. In short: It’s a positively vital album. On Danger Days, MCR are out to save the world, and they do it by ditching the theatrics (and Liza Minnelli cameos), reinventing themselves as dusty, DayGlo outlaws and harnessing the sheer power of rock. It may seem silly, but it’s also a battle someone needs to fight. 16. Beach House, Teen Dream Forget Katy Perry; Baltimore’s Beach House wrote 2010’s best soundtrack to teenage melodrama. Teen Dream is full of gauzy harmonies, sun-dappled guitars, swoony histrionics and songs like “Zebra” and “Walk in the Park” that just keep opening up, until they gently burn out and fade away. I’d like to hear them take on “California Gurls” next. 15. Eminem, Recovery Three million Eminem fans can’t be wrong. There’s a reason Recovery is the best-selling album released in 2010, one that has as much to do with our love of comeback stories as it does the undiluted strength of Eminem himself, who, clean and sober for the first time in years, lets it rip, tackling subjects both old (celebs) and new (himself) with a renewed vigor and venom. Shoot, at one point he even manages to work “antidisestablishmentarianism” into the mix. When he raps “I am the American Dream,” he’s not boasting; he’s just telling the truth. After all, he’s been to the bottom, and with Recovery, he’s pulled himself back up to the top by his bootstraps. 14. Deerhunter, Halcyon Digest A haunting (and haunted) recollection of the claustrophobic past and the agoraphobic present, Halcyon Digest is Deerhunter at their most woozy, weary and wispy, which is to say it’s also them operating at the absolute peak of their abilities. An album brimming with ideas and gauzy expanses, vespertine ghosts and floating embers, Halcyon Digest is the musical equivalent of prying open the attic and feeling the warm gust of dusty breath that greets you. Sometimes it comforts, but most of the time it just gives you chills. 13. Rick Ross, Teflon Don Big Meech. Larry Hoover. And about a million other characters, both real and imagined. Teflon Don is Ross’ most thrilling listen, alternating between blunt-force braggadocio ( “B.M.F.” ) and silk-suited swagger (the flossy, glossy “Super High” ) with a deftness that belies his general ginormitude. You can debate the authenticity of his words, but you cannot challenge his storytelling abilities. Hollywood doesn’t make movies this big, let alone Miami. 12. Sleigh Bells, Treats Sounds like: cheerleader camp, power tools f—ing, the “level-up” music on any NES game (circa 1988), a really sh—y Sanyo boom box, double Dutch, hyperspace, hellfire, hurricanes, a more polite Mot

Phoenix Recall Meeting ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Snooki

‘We’ve become friends!’ guitarist Laurent Brancowitz laughs to MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Phoenix Photo: MTV News Back in January, worlds collided when “Jersey Shore” star Snooki met Phoenix , the world’s hugest rock band (from France). Their chance encounter occurred on the red carpet of the Grammys, where the Snookster was serving as MTV News’ special correspondent and Phoenix were, uh, walking (they’d go on to win Best Alternative Album too). The end result was 83 seconds of lost-in-translation awkwardness, an “interview” that was amazing for several reasons, most of them having to do with the fact that neither party had any idea who the other was (though we also like the part where Snooki tells Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz that he looks like “the vampire Edward”). Not surprisingly, the video of their meeting became an Internet sensation, to the point where, for the remainder of 2010, Phoenix were forced to answer questions about Snooki everywhere they went (Snooki, on the other hand, has since moved on to bigger and better things ). So, naturally, when MTV News caught up with the fabulous French foursome over the weekend at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas, we decided to continue the trend. But rather than just ask them about their run-in with Snooki, we also wondered if their relationship had grown any. “We’ve become friends!” Brancowitz laughed. “No. People talk about it a lot, but we always manage to let it be very blurry. We have absolutely no idea of the details. It was a very nice encounter.” We suspect that was just him being polite, but we’ll let you be the judge. Above is our latest interview with Phoenix plus the original clip of them meeting Snooki for the first — and, we’ll assume, last — time. Watch it and try very hard not to cringe yourself to death. Vampire Weekend Draw Inspiration From Kate Hudson For New Album

Frontman Ezra Koenig says watching ‘Love Guru,’ ‘Bride Wars’ is helping band ‘think about the art’ they want to make. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend performs during KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas on Sunday Photo: Karl Walter/Getty Images In 2010, Vampire Weekend released a rather amazing album of pan-ethnic pop, debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart , showed up on the “Eclipse” soundtrack , hung out with Lil Jon, the RZA, a very drunk Jake Gyllenhaal and a Jonas Brother and even got sued by the unwitting star of their Contra album cover . Needless to say, it was a pretty hectic year, the kind most bands would follow with a rather lengthy (and well-deserved) break. But, as they told MTV News on Sunday at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles, Vampire Weekend aren’t most bands: They’re already in the early stages of work on the follow-up to Contra. To be honest, though, they’ve been in those early stages for a while now. “We’re always thinking about the next album. … I would say we’ve been thinking about the next album since before we finished the last one. It’s natural. … I think that’s the way we work,” frontman Ezra Koenig said. “In terms of working on it, have the four of us gotten into the studio and started laying down tracks for it? Not in any formal way, but in some way that’s not even the most important part of the process. So the ball’s already rolling. When and how we start working on it — we definitely need a break — but the talking about ideas, that’s already happened, and there’s definitely stuff floating around.” And just where have VW been gathering inspiration for that “stuff”? Why, from the works of noted auteurs Mike Myers, that dude who plays Dwight on “The Office” and, uh, Kate Hudson, of course. “Collectively, we’ve been watching a lot of big-budget comedies that may or may not have been successful at the box office,” drummer Chris Tomson said with a smile. “Usually not successful,” Koenig added. ” ‘The Love Guru,’ a notorious financial failure, ‘The Rocker,’ [that] didn’t do too well at the box office, ‘Bride Wars,’ that was the exception. … Any time you interact with a piece of art — whether it’s something that goes on to be your favorite or something that maybe you find issue with — still, that’s going to help you think about the art you want to make.” Sounds, uh, interesting. Still, though they’re working on a new album, Koenig cautions that it’s going to be a while before fans actually hear it. After the year they’ve had, VW have sort of earned the right to take their time with things — not to mention the fact that they’re still waiting for “Date Night” to make it to the top of their Netflix queue. “Knowing us, it takes us a very long time to make an album,” Koenig said. “Is it possible that things from the Vampire Weekend family could come out in 2011? I’m sure, but a Vampire Weekend album … I don’t see any reason to rush it.” Related Photos KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Related Artists Vampire Weekend
