Britney Spears is working her magic to help do some good for her home state of Louisiana. The 34-year-old singing sensation is helping to raise funds for the victims of the massive floods that have devastated the state. Britney is using her upcoming performance at the MTV Video Music Awards as a way to to raise money. One of the prizes up for grabs is two roundtrip tickets to New York and two tickets to the award show. The award show airs on Sunday August 28, 2016. Spears will also be giving the lucky winner the chance to meet her before the show kicks off in Madison Square Garden. If you don’t win that prize, you could be in with a chance of winning the outfit Spears wears to the awards show, as well as an autographed copy of her latest album. Those are pretty great perks and the money is all going to a great cause. Britney took to Facebook to help promote the campaign. Every $10 counts as an entry to win one of the prizes. Someone named Cameron Dallas owes Jessica Alba a major apology. The quasi celebrity tried to make a name for himself at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, accepting the surfboard for Social Media King and then trying to be all witty afterward. Playing a quick (and random) game of “Would You Rather” backstage, Dallas was asked whose toothbrush he would prefer to use, that of Justin Timberlake or that of Jessica Alba. He chose Justin Timberlake. Which, you know, sure, whatever, cool, fine. But then he gave his reasoning for this selection. “I would honestly choose Justin Timberlake just because I don’t know where Jessica’s been,” Dallas says, just trying to make a joke, we guess. But what kind of joke is that?!? The kind where Jessica Alba is all gross and promiscuous?!? Not that she needs our defense in any way, shape or form, but for the record: Alba has been married to Cash Warren since 2008. She has two kids with her husband. There has not been a single rumor of infidelity in their eight-plus years of marriage. But whatever. Who is Cameron Dallas to make any sort of disparaging remark about any woman’s sexual past no matter what?!? Making this matter even worse? Alba led a tribute at the Teen Choice Awards to the victims of gun violence across America. Was The South Carolina Murder Of A 9-Year-Old And Her Grandmother Racially Motivated The same state that brought us Dylann Roof is also home to allegedly murderous married couple Cephas and Kathrine Cowick, who have been arrested for the double homicide of a 9-year-old black girl and her 52 year old grandmother. According to WBTW reports : Cephas Cowick, 23, and Kathrine Baucom Cowick, 25, have been charged with murder and are in police custody. Sheriff Byrd confirmed that the two suspects were husband and wife. Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee found two people dead after responding to a call Sunday morning. Sheriff Wayne Byrd says the call came in around 11:54 Sunday morning for two dead people at a home off Highway 151 near the Darlington Dragway. One of the victims is a nine-year-old and the other is the child’s grandmother. Hardee identified the victims Monday morning as Deziyah Davis, 9, and her grandmother Denise Couplin, 52 of Darlington. Coroner Hardee has ruled the incident a double homicide. This is so sad. We haven’t seen anything mentioned about this incident being racially motivated but we can’t help but to wonder if it was. There have been several updates to this story since the Cowick’s arrest. Third degree arson, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, first degree burglary, grand larceny less than $10,000 and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. It turns out they allegedly robbed Couplin’s home during the incident. Both suspects are being held at the Darlington County Detention Center without bond. Their court date has been set for Sept. 28. There were two other children home at the time of the murders who managed to escape to a neighbor’s home. Those kids have been taking into custody of the Department of Social Services while family members work to regain custody. A joint funeral was held for Davis and Couplin on Sunday July, 24 at 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hartsville, according to family members. Facebook/Darlington County Detention Center

Leave it to Lin-Manuel Miranda to find a powerful, unique way to honors those killed in the Orlando shooting early Sunday morning. The creator and star of Hamilton, which dominated the 2016 Tony Awards last night, made a powerful statement while accepting the Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre category. It was written in sonnet form and it opened by thanking his wife, before Miranda moved on to paying tribute to the 50 victims who were killed inside a gay nightclub . “We chase the melodies that seem to find us until they’re finished songs and start to play,” Miranda said. “When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day.” He later added: Love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside. “I hadn’t written anything going into today. I hadn’t heard about the day’s events until after our Tony rehearsal,” Miranda said backstage after the ceremony, during which Hamilton won 11 awards including best musical. “I’d always had this time between rehearsal and tonight to think about what I’d say if I was lucky enough to be called up, and it sort of informed all of it… “We live in this world where beautiful and horrible things exist at the same time and often on the same day. … Theater doesn’t exist without the LGBTQ community. It’s the cornerstone of our industry.” Earlier in the Tony Awards, host James Corden also honored the victims of the Orlando shooting. “Hate will never win,” he remarked in pre-taped remarks before the event began. ‘Grim Sleeper’ Serial Killer Sentenced To Death Another serial killer has had his day in court , and it looks like he’ll be paying for his crimes with his life. The “Grim Sleeper” terrorized a poor African American community in Los Angeles, targeting low-income Black women, often drug abusers, knowing that their deaths would garner less attention and less thorough investigation by law enforcement. Now, he is set to be sentenced to death . Via MailOnline : A serial killer known as the ‘Grim Sleeper’ should be sentenced to death for murdering nine women and a teenage girl over more than two decades in South Los Angeles, a jury decided on Monday. Lonnie Franklin Jr., 63, a former city trash collector and garage attendant for Los Angeles police, was convicted of 10 counts of first-degree murder last month for crimes dating back more than 30 years. Family members of the victims cried Monday as the verdicts on punishment were read. Some rocked back and forth. One said, ‘Thank you.’ A prosecutor had asked jurors to show Franklin the same compassion he showed his victims and give him the ‘ultimate penalty.’ An emotional defense lawyer asked jurors to sentence him to life without parole to hasten the healing process for the victims’ family members. The jury called for the death penalty on all 10 murder counts and the judge set formal sentencing for August 10. Franklin said, ‘Yes, your honor,’ in regards to the date but otherwise sat quietly and stared straight ahead the entire time. As he walked into court, family members of the victims whispered, ‘Dead man walking.’ Most of the slayings fit a similar pattern. Women were either fatally shot, choked — or both — and their partly clad or naked bodies were dumped in alleys and trash bins in the impoverished area where Franklin lived. Franklin got the name “the grim sleeper” due to a 14-year gap in his crime career, causing police to be unable to connect the dots that the crimes were all related for years on end. His victims were all Black women that lived close to him in his community — including one 14-year-old girl: Franklin has actually been linked to even more murders, however the DA chose not to charge him with the extra cases because doing so would have delayed his trial by an additional six years. Wow. Considering the heinous nature of his crimes, it sounds like the jury made the best recommendation. A spot under the jail would be too good for this guy… AP/MailOnline
