Hate Crimes: Four Men Punch And Kick Gay Couple After NY Knicks Game, Calls Them F*****s

Another day, another hate crime . Four Men Attack Gay Couple According to Raw Story The New York City Police Department is searching for four men who are suspected of attacking a gay couple after Sunday night’s basketball game between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Nick Porto, 27, told DNAInfo that he was walking arm-in-arm with his partner, 22-year-old Kevin Atkins, on Eighth Avenue when four men attacked them. The couple said that they were repeatedly punched and kicked. After the attack, the victims were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where Porto was treated for a broken nose. Although police have not classified the attack as a hate crime, Porto said that he had no doubt. “I’ve never had a feeling like this before in the city,” he explained. “I didn’t know that it’s not over, that this sort of stuff still happens.” “They called us f*****s,” Porto recalled. “They made fun of my jeans — I made the jeans myself, for that day.” The NYPD released two surveillance photos of one of the four suspects early Tuesday morning. Investigators described him as a 6-foot-tall Hispanic man with brown hair and a tattoo on his left arm. He is seen wearing a white Knicks #7 jersey, a white T-shirt, blue hat and blue jeans. Anyone with information about the suspects or the attack can contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or http://www.nypdcrimestoppers.com . It’s sad in 2013 there are still people being attacked for their sexual preference.

Zooey Deschanel Named as Boston Bombing Suspect in Hilarious Closed Captioning Fail

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Zooey Deschanel. While these two names might not sound similar to you, they were close enough to confuse one Fox affiliate Friday during the massive Boston manhunt. Not long before authorities captured the Boston bombing suspect , he was erroneously listed by the closed captioning as the beautiful singer-actress. Cross promotion for New Girl ? A welcome moment of levity after what could only be described as a tough week, which ended after police remarkably took Tsarnaev alive last night. Zooey Deschanel, meanwhile, is still at large.

Boston Bombing Suspect CAPTURED: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Alive, in Custody After Standoff

The fugitive Boston Marathon bombing suspect is alive and in custody. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured just moments ago following a massive manhunt in Watertown, Mass. He had evaded capture since late Thursday night. The search for Tsarnaev focused on Watertown, a town just a few miles outside Boston. He was eventually discovered hiding in a boat in a residential yard. NBC News reports that the wanted Boston bombing suspect was found pinned down in the boat, the cover of which showed a tear and blood stain. Law enforcement sources said police had seen the suspect moving from a State Police helicopter, then confirmed the report with infrared technology. They were alerted to his presence by a Watertown resident who walked outside when frustrated officials lifted the lockdown order around 6 p.m. The resident saw the blood, and that some of the cords tying down the tarp over it were cut. He observed moment inside the boat, and called 911. Authorities then formed a perimeter around the Watertown property and are believed to have exchanged gunfire with the suspect while it was still daylight. Watch a raw video taken from a neighboring window of that exchange: Boston Bombing Suspect Shootout in Watertown It is not certain if the suspect fired back, but no officers were injured. As they moved in, they observed Dzhokhar Tsarnaev sit up, and after using “flash bang” stun grenades to disorient and distract him, took him into custody. Officers were acting with extreme caution because they remained concerned that the suspect might be wearing a suicide bomb vest, a source said. Within the last hour, NBC News reported that there was a fire in the boat the bombing suspect was hiding in and that the suspect was bleeding heavily. It was widely assumed by many in the press and on social media that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was dead, or soon would be as police surrounded him. Not the case. Tsarnaev, 19, was taken away via ambulance and has left the scene (see below, with boat, on Bing maps). State Police have confirmed he is alive. At a news conference, the Boston Police Chief described his condition as serious. Officials speculate that he was wounded early this morning by police – it is not clear how gravely – and has not had access to food or water since. As the thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement now depart, they are doing so to deafening applause and standing ovations from citizens. The U.S. Attorney’s office would not say if Tsarnaev has been Mirandized. The shootout comes after a violent night in which his brother and alleged co-conspirator, Tamerlan Tsarnaev , died in a separate firefight with police. The brothers are believed to have carried out Monday’s Marathon bombings, which killed three people and wounded more than 180 others, some gravely. Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, also suspected of killing an MIT police officer in his vehicle late Thursday, setting the events of Friday into motion. Authorities in Boston suspended all mass transit and warned close to a million people in the entire city and some of its suburbs to stay indoors today. After it was finally over, law enforcement earned the ultimate hat tip. Obama on Boston Bombing Suspect Arrest President Barack Obama praised authorities and ordinary Bostonians alike in a live press conference from the White House after the massive manhunt. “Tonight, our nation is in debt to the people of Boston,” Obama said, and went on to thank Bostonians as “citizens and partners” in the investigation. The president said this resolution wouldn’t have been possible without close coordination among federal, state and local law enforcement authorities. “They all worked as they should,” Obama said, “as a team.” After promising the victims of the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion that they weren’t forgotten either, he concluded, in the understatement of all time: “This has been been a tough week.” Story developing … UPDATE, 4/20, 7:00 a.m. : Tsarnaev remains in the hospital, the severity and nature of his condition unclear, according to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Patrick did say that he is “hoping very deeply he survives, because I’ve got a lot of questions and I know investigators have a lot of questions for him.”

West Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion Injures More Than 100, Many Feared Dead

A massive explosion ripped through a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas Wednesday night, injuring more than 100 and leaving many feared dead. Authorities were bracing to find victims in collapsed buildings, which rescuers could not approach due to the flames and dangerous chemicals. The West, Texas explosion happened about 8 p.m. in the town town of 2,800 about 20 miles north of Waco. It was unclear what had triggered it. Mayor Tommy Muska, a volunteer firefighter, said he was responding to the blaze and was two blocks away from the plant when it exploded. “I’ve just never seen an explosion like that. It was just a ball of fire,” he said. “It looked like a nuclear bomb went off; it was just a big old mushroom cloud.” D.L. Wilson, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said at least 100 people had been injured and an unknown number of people were dead. As many as 75 houses were damaged and a 50-unit apartment building looked like a “skeleton standing up,” he said of the aftermath of the blast. Making matters worse, a 133-person nursing home was near the explosion, and its residents had been evacuated to the community center. “I searched some houses earlier tonight. Massive,” Wilson said of the damage. “It’s just like Iraq; just like the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City.” The latter may be more accurate. Wilson likened the chemicals used in the 1995 Oklahoma City blast to the chemicals at the plant when it exploded. The blaze went unfought for hours as firefighters focused on rescuing victims and survivors and as officials evacuated an eight- to 10-block area. Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families.

UPDATED: Now That ‘Point Break’ Has A Director, Where’s The Remake Of Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Near Dark’?

While the blogosphere debates the merits and drawbacks of Alcon hiring Ericson Core ( Invincible ) to direct its remake of Point Break ,   it’s time to  start asking if   Kathryn Bigelow’s   1987  neo-noir  vampire thriller Near Dark   will ever be remade.  UPDATED/ 7:45 P.M. EST:    Relativity Media spokeswoman Emmy Chang responds, “We do not have the rights to this title.”   Stay tuned. Let me say up front that Near Dark doesn’t need to be remade. It’s a bloody, balls out thrill ride that pre-figures the endorphin rush of Point Break features a memorable cast that includes the seriously underrated Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton . Henriksen is utterly chilling and Paxton gives an unhinged performance as Severen , the craziest member of a pack of redneck vampires on the loose in the West. (Love their shades and the camper van with the blacked-out windows.) Is Near Dark Too Much Like  Twilight ?  Back in 2006, Michael Bay ‘s Platinum Dune production company was talking about remaking the picture, but in 2008, Bay’s partner, producer Brad Fuller told Empire magazine that the project was on hold because “I’m concerned that, conceptually… Near Dark and Twilight are too similar”.  I had to read that statement twice because, while there is a romance between one of the vampire clan (Jenny Wright) and a murder-averse human (Adrian Pasdar),  the ferociously over-the-top Near Dark bears precious little resemblance to the PG-13 Twilight  franchise.  (If anything, Bigelow’s film is a kindred spirit of HBO’s True Blood vamp series.)  If Bay & Co. were making a Twilight connection, it’s probably best they shelved the project. As of the end of 2012, the Internet Movie Database indicated that Relativity Media subsidiary Rogue was developing the picture, but getting the company to confirm that the project is still alive (or undead) is another question. Relativity reps have yet to respond to my requests for clarity on the matter.  If they get back to me, I’ll update. In the meantime, if a remake ever does get made, I’d love to see Michael Shannon as Severin role and Christopher Walken in the patriarchal Jesse Hooker role that Henriksen played. Here’s the official trailer to the film followed by a clip of Paxton at his bloody best. Justin Bieber: I Want To Be a Role Model!

He’s facing more criticism than ever before, but Justin Bieber wants to make it as clear as can be: “The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a bad person,” Bieber tells Us Weekly in an exclusive Q&A. “I get upset about that. I have a big heart. I want to be a good role model, but some people want me to fail.” Justin Bieber shirtless. Justin Bieber in a gas mask. Two of the latest strange incidents surrounding the singer. The interview with Justin was conducted prior to his latest scandal: a contentious argument with a neighbor that has resulted in a battery charge and allegations that Bieber drives WAY too fast . But Bieber courted plenty of controversy in the weeks leading up to this brush with the law, such as when he was photographed shirtless on the street in London (“I still had part of my tour wardrobe on and was rushing into my hotel,” he says). And then he was caught in a gas mask while shopping. (“I wanted to hide my face from all the cameras,” he explains. “They got it as a joke. My friends and I like messing around.”) And of course he collapsed onn stage in England. (“I passed out from the flu. The worst thing to me is disappointing my fans – we only had five songs left – so they gave me oxygen, and I decided to finish the show and then go to the hospital. The show must go on.”) Overall, though, JB wants everyone to know that his heart is in the right place: “I’m young and I make mistakes. That’s part of growing up… I’m young and I want to have fun. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.
