Colton Harris-Moore — a teen who spent two years stealing airplanes, boats and cars, evading authorities, and burglarizing homes — is picking up $1.4 million in restitution money to be paid to his victims from Fox for the rights to his story (though he’ll only collect if Fox exercises its options). Known as the ‘Barefoot Bandit” because he once committed a crime without shoes, the convicted Harris-Moore is in jail awaiting trial for an October sentencing which could land him 10 years in jail. The Oscar-winning scribe Dustin Lance Black was hired to write the picture. May I suggest a title? Barefoot in the Clink ? [ Deadline ]

Newspaper is questioning numbers cited in actor’s anti-prostitution campaign. By Jocelyn Vena Ashton Kutcher Photo: Joe Corrigan/ Getty Images Ashton Kutcher is engaged in a war of words with New York newspaper The Village Voice. The actor and the paper have been going after each other on Twitter in connection with PSAs that Kutcher and wife Demi Moore , made in order to shed light on underage prostitution. The newspaper questioned statistics that the celebrity uses in his campaign in an article published this week called “Real Men Get Their Facts Straight” (a play on “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls,” the name of Kutcher’s campaign). The actor took to Twitter to respond, making reference to ads that appear in the paper’s classifieds section. “Hey @villagevoice speaking of data, maybe you can help me … How much $ did your ‘escorts’ in your classifieds on backpage make last year? Hey @villagevoice speaking of Data … How many of your girls selling themselves in your classifieds are you doing age verification on?” The article cites Kutcher’s statistic that between 100,000 and 300,000 children are involved with child prostitution, calling it a “statistic [that] was hatched without regard to science. It is a bogeyman.” Kutcher fired back at those claims on his Twitter. “Hey @villagevoice if you want to dispute the online data I’ve collected about the consumption of child porn or the hard facts from [National Center for Missing and Exploited Children] lmk,” he wrote, later adding, “Hey @villagevoice REAL MEN DON’T BUY GIRLS and REAL NEWS PUBLICATIONS DON’T SELL THEM.” Eventually the newspaper responded to Kutcher’s criticism of its analysis, firing back on Twitter. “@aplusk Don’t spout phony statistics which are then used to justify millions in spending for ‘awareness.’ Victims need beds and counseling,” read one tweet that appeared in between a sea of retweets from readers on the paper’s side and reminders to read the article. “Still sort of doubting that @aplusk actually read our story, but don’t make that same mistake!” Whose side are you on? We tend to talk about the victims of the Shoah in the context of the entire community of Six Million. But the people who died in the Holocaust were not named “Six Million.” Each one of them was an individual. Among those slaughtered by the Nazi’s were mothers worrying about their childrens’ homework, young girls with crushes on young boys, young boys who cared more about soccer than young girls. It’s not exactly conventional, but Brooke Mueller’s arrangement – drug rehab during the day and taking care of her kids at night – does the job. At least a judge felt that way when denying Charlie Sheen’s bid for full custody of their children and leaving their custody agreement in place. The custody judge ruled she’s still able to take care of her twins per the deal struck with Sheen – with help from an army of nannies, of course. The judge did make one change in the agreement. Both Brooke and Charlie must submit to random drug testing weekly, more frequently than before. Also factoring into the decision not to award full custody to Sheen? The fact that we’re talking about Charlie Sheen here. Brooke has a lot of leeway. Judge Hank Goldberg was well aware Brooke had relapsed , but was equally disturbed by Charlie’s drug abuse and the fact that he brags about it. Goldberg also felt Charlie’s parenting skills – or lack thereof – did not warrant a change . Brooke’s lawyers raised issues of domestic violence, too. From what we can tell, no new allegations were made against the actor, although you don’t have to look too far back in order to find some.
Documentary filmmaker Tim Hetherington, a 2011 Oscar nominee who directed the acclaimed Afghanistan war film Restrepo , was killed today in Libya. The veteran correspondent was only 41 years old. Hetherington died in the Libyan city of Misurat Three photographers working in alongside him chronicling the Libyan civil conflict, were also injured. The film was widely critically praised and took the Grand Jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. It earned an Oscar nomination for best documentary. While details are still emerging as to exactly what happened, Reuters reported that Hetherington and his group were attacked by fatal mortar fire . “Sad news Tim Hetherington died in Misrata now when covering the front line. Chris Hondros is in a serious status,” wrote fellow photographer and close, longtime Hetherington friend Andr
Remember the missing woman whose case led one time to eight random bodies ? Now, authorities looking into the death of one of the Craigslist hookers they found have discovered all types of madness in the world of eJohns and iHoes. Members of an Internet sex forum hatched a “revenge” plot against a Long Island hooker who was later murdered and dumped in a serial killer’s burial ground, the Daily News has learned. Talk on longislanderotic.com shows members were outraged when one of their cronies claimed he had paid Amber Lynn Costello $200 for sex, only to be robbed by men who barged into her West Babylon home. “Tell her we are all coming over there with baseball bats,” threatened one member, a self-declared ex-con known as “Morrie.” That ominous threat, and more to follow, has opened a window on what probers say is a virtually unregulated sex network of johns, hookers and escort services. “The Internet has really become a highway for criminality,” said Eugene O’Donnell, a professor of law and police studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “In terms of prostitution, it’s moved a pretty public enterprise into the shadows more than ever, and made it more difficult for law enforcement to get a handle on it.” Investigators would not say if any of the online johns are suspects in the probe of a possible serial killer who dumped as many as 10 bodies along Gilgo Beach and Jones Beach. Still, law enforcement sources say the chilling online thread is the type of internet-based sex crime that attracted the FBI to the case. The four victims found in December – Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy and Megan Waterman, in addition to Costello – were craigslist hookers. All had been strangled and stuffed in burlap sacks. The bodies of a woman, a man, a child and an adult whose gender hasn’t been determined were found between March 29 and April 4. Two sets of unidentified remains were found on Monday. Shannan Gilbert, 24, a New Jersey hooker who vanished on the beach in May, is still missing. SMH. Was sh*t ever this real on Hunt’s Point? Kim Kardashian is truly taking the world by storm, and becoming a global celebrity brand, so when we hear that she is gracing the cover of this month’s Cosmopolitan Magazine in Turkey, it really is no surprise. However, unfortunately for her being of Armenian descent, this month in Turkey is also the Genocide Remembrance Day, which commemorates the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide by the Turks, which makes her being chosen as the cover girl a little bit surprising…. and a lot controversial. The Armenian community here in America is offended by the cover, considering that Turkey have never fully acknowledged the genocide which killed millions of Armenians. According to the New York Daily News , Aram Hamparian, who is the the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America, said that the magazine was; “Trying to turn a profit in Turkey by callously featuring a cover photo of a descendant of Armenian genocide survivors in its April issue…. Cosmopolitan should find creative ways to educate its readers about the Turkish government’s shameful effort to cover up this atrocity” Kim took to her blog trying to soften the controversy, by claiming that she didn’t know Turkey was planning to use her image this month. She wrote; “Cosmopolitan Magazine has a number of international editions all around the world that run in various territories, and when I did this shoot for the international covers I had no idea that Turkey was planning to run my story on their cover THIS month, considering Genocide Remembrance Day is this month… My Armenian heritage means a lot to me and I’ve been brought up to be incredibly proud of my family’s background and culture so as an Armenian-American woman it is a huge honor for me to be on the first ever Armenian Cosmopolitan cover.” Ok, I get that she is all about moving her career forward (and we all know how much she loves to be in front of the camera), but I find it really, really hard to believe that she would do a photo-shoot for any magazine, let alone one as professional and reputable as Cosmopolitan, and not know when the cover was going to run. Really, Kim? But credit where it’s due, being the first ever Armenian cover girl IS a big accomplishment, and I do have to agree with this statement; “World-over, Cosmo is known as a fun and inspiring magazine for women of all races, shapes, sizes, regardless of their political beliefs and I really hope that if I can bring awareness to the issue, then this in an accomplishment.” Well, judging by the publicity her cover has already created, she certainly has managed to do just that!
