Bruno Mars Tweets Excitement About VMA Nominations

With four nominations, Mars gives props to his choreographers, congratulates his competitors and urges ‘hooligans’ to vote. By Gil Kaufman Bruno Mars Photo: Getty Images Wednesday was a good day for Bruno Mars . The singer/songwriter, who has been on an epic roll over the past 12 months, got some seriously great news when it was revealed that he scored four nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . The man behind Cee Lo Green’s epic hit “Forget You,” not to mention hits by Travie McCoy and his own smashes such as “Just the Way You Are” and “The Lazy Song,” was beside himself when the news hit, tweeting a series of responses to his first-ever VMA noms . “VMAs!!!!” he wrote just as the announcements were going out, followed by “4 Nominations!?!?!?! THANK YOU @MTV.” He also gave some serious props to the “America’s Best Dance Crew” troupe Poreotics, who appeared disguised as monkeys in his “Lazy Song” video, which was nominated in the Best Choreography category. “YO @POREOTICS – LAZY SONG NOMINATED FOR BEST CHOREOGRAPHY!! #VMAs #MoNKeySwAG!!” he wrote. He had plenty of reason to celebrate, since the moody, piano-dragging video for “Grenade” is up for Video of the Year, competing against top nominee Katy Perry (“Firework”), Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Tyler the Creator (“Yonkers”) and the Beastie Boys (“Make Some Noise”). He gave shout-outs to the competition in that battle, saying, “@mtvnews @f—tyler @katyperry @beastieboys Damn!! All great videos!! Congrats to you guys. #SeriousCompetition.” “Grenade” is also in contention in the Best Male Video category, where it will face off against Green’s “Forget You,” Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” and Justin Bieber’s “U Smile.” Mars’ fourth nomination is in the Best Pop Video race, where he faces Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Britney Spears (“Till the World Ends”), Perry (“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and Pitbull (“Give Me Everything”). At the end of the day, Mars just found it all hard to believe. “But seriously?? Who drags a piano across town in some church shoes??? The Brunz does!!! HOOLIGANS VOTE!!!” he encouraged his fans. By Gil Kaufman Blake Shelton Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Blake Shelton was already a beloved country star before he became a reality-TV double-threat. Lil Wayne’s Carter IV ‘Totally Done’

MC also tells MTV News that hit ‘How to Love’ was inspired by Tupac’s ladies’ anthem ‘Keep Ya Head Up.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Tunechi’s back and Tha Carter IV is done! During an interview with MTV News last week, Lil Wayne confirmed that the recording of the highly anticipated fourth installment of his Tha Carter series is finished and will drop at the end of August, a day after the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards air live on August 28. “The album is done and it’ll be out August 29. It’s totally done,” Wayne told us. While the MC’s upcoming mixtape, Sorry for the Wait, will no doubt feature Wayne spewing rapid-fire rap over concussive beats, judging by the latest Carter IV single, the album will offer even more diversity. According to Wayne, the acoustic-flavored, sing-songy “How to Love” was actually inspired by Tupac Shakur. “That song is just sweeping the world. It’s touching every woman, that’s what it was for,” Wayne said. “It was like Tupac had ‘Keep Ya Head Up’ and it was a message to women and little girls across the world just to keep your head up even though things are hard. That’s what my song was.” ‘Pac’s 1993 song became one of his biggest hits. On it, Shakur rapped about the plight of single mothers and battered women. For “How to Love,” Weezy also lends a sympathetic ear. “A lot of women don’t know how to love because there’s deep reasons for them not knowing how to love,” he explained. “And what I mean by deep reasons is deep and dark reasons. A lot of people don’t open up that can and I figured that I can open up that can of worms and see what happens.” How do you think Wayne’s “How to Love” compares to Tupac’s “Keep Ya Head Up”? According to a press release, Gaga is the first performer to be announced for the 10th annual MTV Video Music Awards Japan, which is being dubbed the Video Music Aid Japan this year in order to raise awareness about the recent natural disasters that hit the country and benefit the Japanese Red Cross. The international event will be hosted by Japanese pop sensation AKB48 and feature a string of performances from international, regional and Japanese artists. The broadcast will be a highlight of MTV Japan’s Music of Hope campaign, which is the channel’s multiplatform response to the tragic March 11 earthquake and tsunami. In addition to the usual award-show traditions, the program is expected to feature news about the artists and youths who have been impacted by the country’s natural disasters. MTV Video Music Aid Japan will broadcast live from the Makuhari Messe convention center near Tokyo on MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV China and MTV Southeast Asia. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Results: Sugar Ray Leonard Gets KO’d

‘I fought a good fight,’ the boxer says of his run on the ABC show. By Kelley L. Carter Anna Trebunskaya and Sugar Ray Leonard Photo: ABC As often happens, it wasn’t the celebrity with the lowest score who was booted Tuesday night from “Dancing With the Stars.” In spite of having the lowest marks from the judges, Kendra Wilkinson — who scored 18 out of 30 points for her waltz on Monday night’s classical-themed night — managed to survive another week. Instead, it was star boxer Sugar Ray Leonard who was given the one-two punch. The hit ABC show had the dancers performing either the paso doble, waltz or Viennese waltz in front of a 46-piece orchestra on Monday. And in true dramatic fashion on Tuesday, the week’s highest scorers, Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas, were teased to be one of the possible couples heading home. The pair was placed in the bottom three. Finally, after a performance by Jennifer Hudson, host Tom Bergeron announced that Leonard would be going home. The boxer, who had the second-lowest score of the week, was asked if he was surprised at his elimination. “That’s life and I fought a good fight. I’ll cherish this moment — good friends, good show,” the boxer said after learning he was heading home. “I love the spirit of the show. I love the people on this show.” The night before, judge Carrie Ann Inaba told him, “I don’t think I’ve ever smiled that much. I absolutely fell in love with that dance and both of you.” His partner, Anna Trebunskaya, said working with his was a blast. “We had so much fun,” she said. “It’s just amazing that a boxer became a ballet dancer!” Related Photos ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 12 Cast Revealed

Did Sean Paul Come Between Beyonce & Jay-Z?

Word on the street is that Jamaican reggae star Sean Paul is writing a biography, and he admits he dated Beyonce when she was taking a break from Jay-Z. The insider explained, “Jay-Z was very jealous . . . to this day he has a problem with [Sean Paul].” Could this be the reason why Jay-Z reportedly prevented Sean Paul from performing “Baby Boy” with Beyonce at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards? Jay-Z wanted to be the only performer to share the stage with Beyonce, who was his girlfriend at the time. We need a copy of this book ASAP! And the Grammy for Best Nude Artist Goes to….

2010 was a banner year for cleavage at the Grammys, as the ladies of the music biz charitably showed off their chest clefts. Performers included XXXtina Aguilera , busting out of a slinky black gown, and Katy Perry , whose gigantic 32DD milk jugs deserve their own Grammy for Best Male Tent-Pitching Performance. Lady Gaga , freakishly sexy as always, walked away with the award for Best Female Pop Vocal. Despite her penchant for perturbing her audience with her fashion choices (remember the literal meat curtains she sported at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards?), Gaga rarely exposes her hoo-ha. Fans are left searching for unguarded moments of nip slip, like in her Alejandro video. But luckily, the Grammy for Best Nude Artist has some stiff competition…
